Grilled oysters with crab added on
Patrick P.

We were in town for a brothers weekend, and my older and younger brothers had never been to New Orleans so I took it upon me to find some small and larger places where we could go and enjoy some drinks. We just left Jewel of the South, and I walked us over to Acme. The line was ridiculous and I realized we were standing next to Bourbon House, and their happy hour was still going until 5 PM! My older brother has never had raw oysters. We sat at the bar and I was just staring at the man shucking oysters. I wish I got his name, he was fast, accurate and cool about talking to me while working. I'm sure I was annoying haha. Our server was Nathaniel and he was super kind, helpful and professional. Saw we were in for oysters and got us set up with place settings. We decided to try their Happy Hour Bourbon House milk drink. It's basically a small boozy vanilla milkshake (crudely described) but it was so tasty. $2.25? Yes please! So one of my favorite things to have with raw gulf oysters is crystal hot sauce. I told my brothers about it on the walk over and it was sitting on the bar! Both of them enjoyed them immensely, my older brother seemed to like the freshly grated horseradish with cocktail sauce too. He ordered a bowl of the corn chowder, and I decided to get a dozen grilled oysters with crab add on. These oysters just delivered in all ways. Rich, savory, flavorful, salty and briny. Seasoning was addictive. I had a couple of their blackberry margaritas before the happy hour closed. We had dinner reservations so we finished up with one more dozen of raw oysters and then hit the road for other spots to enjoy. Thanks to Nathaniel and the team here at Bourbon House for a memorable afternoon. Clearly they run through a ton of oysters a night. The interior is like stepping back in time.

I was staying at the Crown Plaza, and because this restaurant is connected to it, I thought I'd have dinner here. The decor is deceiving. It looks absolutely gorgeous and high end, but don't be fooled. I made a reservation for 5:30PM, but the place was fairly empty, as it was a Monday night. I was seated at a nice booth. As I was sitting there, I noticed they have private tables upstairs in the balcony. No one was seated there, but I thought to myself, it looks really nice up there. I ordered the Alligator and Crawfish Rigatoni and a bottle of Chianti. The complimentary bread was delivered first. It was a long piece of freshly baked bread in a white paper bag. It was so hot and fresh. When I spread the whipped butter on it, it just melted in my mouth. My waitress, Melanie M. came back to the table with a sommelier and a bottle of Castello di Nieve Barbaresco which I assumed was the same price of the Chianti, $45. It was a fine wine. I really enjoyed my food as well. It was flavorful and delicious, slightly spicy, garnished with scallions and fresh Parmesan cheese on top. It wasn't until I received the bill that I noticed the bottle of wine cost $148. Too late by then. Melanie was gone for a while. Don't know what happened back there while she was gone except for the fact that she came back with an extremely expensive bottle of wine. I didn't say anything. I just paid the bill and tipped her as usual. Didn't know it then, but this was about to be a premonition of the rest of my week in New Orleans dining out. Staff go out of their way to take advantage of the situation in this city.

Came here with my husband on Thursday afternoon and was able to be sat right away. Got a glass of the Benvolio Pinot Grigio and the blackened fish sandwich. My husband got a gnarly skater pilsner and a honey chicken sandwich. Atmosphere, food, and service were all good.

I'm a frequent visitor at the Bourbon House for their slushy Bourbon Milk Punch cocktail. It's described as the "best adult milkshake you'll ever have" and so far it is. Love the flavor combo of bourbon, vanilla and nutmeg. The restaurant is always busy due to its location in the French Quarter so I haven't had a sit-down meal there. I have had their Happy Hour $1 oysters on the half shell though. Their Happy Hour menu is offered Mon-Fri from 2-5pm in the bar area.

A friend recommended that I try to Char Broiled Oysters and oh my goodness...I don't think I can eat them any other way now. These were absolutely delicious and even if you aren't a fan of oysters you'll love them. My waitress was so pleasant and friendly (Dornika) I will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

I came here only for the Rockefeller oysters - - I did half oysters - just to see if I would like them before I got the full amount - so 6 raw 6 baked - I liked them both I only gave 3 stars - pay attention when they call your name - out name wasn't correct - instead of using the correct spelling " SIMPSON - they were calling out Sam's - so they told us a 45 min wait when Sam's was called - it was 17 mins past the 45 - best of luck everyone -

Bourbon House lives up to its name. It sits prominently on Bourbon St. Definitely more of an upscale vibe but offers casual dining. I sat at the bar with my party. We sampled some of the more rare Bourbons. They are offer a very diverse Bourbon and Whiskey collection. Tried Boudain Balls and Charbroiled oysters on recommendation. They were fantastic. Of course, I have to have gumbo so I could not pass up an opportunity to have a cup. I look forward to my next visit. Bon Apetit.

Bourbon Shrimp & Grits

Bourbon House has been around for a minute and even though it's right next to Bourbon St, it is fine dining. The shrimp n grits was some of the best I've ever had. The Shrimp Po Boy was excellent, same with rigatoni and crab fingers (not much meat in them but delish and garlicky). The Bourbon Milk Punch is a must have.

We all gathered for my Daughter's graduation dinner. It was a wonderful place together with for a family event. The food was outstanding. The service was even better. You can't go wrong with the full flavor , great ambience in this Restaurant. It has been one of our family favorites for years and we will return soon.

The Bourbon House has a great happy hour. I had the burger, and it was yummy. My friend had the corn and crab bisque. The oyster toast was soggy. But overall, we had a good experience. The service was good as well.

Complimentary taste of bourbon!

Such a great place to grab some oysters and great Creole food! The oysters here are large and creamy, 12 for $29, which makes them $2.41 each. They may have a Happy Hour here, not sure. We sat at the oyster bar, which was fun and lively! Lots of locals, which is always a good sign. We also ordered the Shrimp and Boudin Balls and a bowl of gumbo. Both were excellent. We also each enjoyed a free tasting of their October Bourbon of the month. Pro tip: Sign up for their free membership to the New Orleans Bourbon Society, get a passport from the bartender, and enjoy 1 free taste per month!

Food was phenomenal!! Oysters were so fresh! And the charbroiled oysters were cooked differently than in Florida but still extremely delicious. Service was that of a fine dining establishment. Very proper and polite and friendly. Ambiance was that of a swanky olde timey restaurant, had a great experience!!

Crab claws wow!

We came in Saturday night without a reservation and only had to wait a few minutes. Our waitress was amazing from the second we sat down. I really wish I remembered her name because she was super attentive, funny, patient, and honestly made the whole experience even better. My boyfriend and I started with the Creole oysters and OMG... probably some of the best oysters I've ever had. They were incredibly flavorful, and dipping the bread into all that sauce afterward was SO good. My mother-in-law had the fried calamari, which came with remoulade, and she really enjoyed it. For my entrée, I had the jambalaya with chicken and andouille sausage. It was definitely spicy, but really, really good. My boyfriend and mother-in-law both had the grilled red snapper topped with their creamy crawfish sauce, and they loved it. My father-in-law had one of the oyster specials with shrimp and crawfish, which was also excellent. We finished with dessert... boyfriend and I had a chocolate mousse/cake dessert and my in-laws had the bread pudding. Everything was delicious. The atmosphere was casual and fun, they had the football games playing on the TVs, and our waitress was fantastic the entire night. Just an overall great experience. If you love seafood and oysters, definitely give this place a try. I would 100% come back!

Five stars, but can we give Sam a few extra?!…read more We spent the evening watching Sam run the show as the expediter, and let me tell you, this man is a MACHINE! He never stopped moving, kept everything running like a well oiled machine, and absolutely kicked ass all night. Honestly, at some point we were more entertained watching Sam work than anything else going on in the restaurant! By the end of dinner, we had officially become Sam fans and asked our server to send him over so we could meet the legend himself. A few fist bumps and a little conversation later, he did not disappoint! Funny, humble, hardworking, and just an all around great guy. Sam, we see you! Whatever they're paying you, it's probably not enough. Give this man a raise, a cape, or at least a standing ovation! Great food and great experience, but Sam stole the show!

I genuinely do NOT understand the hype around Pêche. We came in with pretty high expectations given…read morethe Michelin Guide recognition and this was easily one of the most disappointing meals we had in New Orleans. We got there about 20 minutes early and they were nice enough to seat us early, which I appreciated. We did ask the host if the AC was working because it was HOT and he looked at us like we had just offended his mother. Weird start. Our waiter Jason came over to explain the menu and immediately seemed flustered/annoyed that we had questions. It was our first time there?? Of course we had questions lol. I told him I have a crustacean allergy. He mentioned shellfish and I clarified that it was specifically crustaceans because I can eat other shellfish. No big deal and I WILL give them credit because they did accommodate my allergy. Before the food even came my father-in-law ordered an Old Fashioned with one large cube. Jason seemed annoyed by that request too, said it was fine, and then the drink comes out with a bunch of regular ice cubes anyway. Had to be redone. Small thing but this basically became the theme of the night. Then the food. I wanted the kale salad and asked if they could leave off the peanuts. Absolutely not because apparently it's the chef's grandmother's recipe and there are NO modifications. Okay grandma. We won't disrespect the recipe. For my hanger steak they offered to cook it separately in a pan because of my allergy which I genuinely appreciated. I also asked if I could ORDER the creamed corn on the side and was told he could ask but couldn't guarantee what the kitchen would do. What?? It's literally on the menu and I'm paying for it lol. They did bring it and it was basically corn kernels sitting in watery liquid. Underwhelming is being generous. The crab claws were good but nothing memorable. My boyfriend ordered the steak tartare and somehow that took longer than everything else because apparently raw steak on bread needed extra time. Then the Royal Red shrimp...THIS was insane. My boyfriend was almost finished when he got to one that was undercooked and SLIMY. At a seafood restaurant with this kind of reputation??? We told Jason and basically got a "thank you for letting me know." Sir. You just served someone slimy undercooked shrimp. Maybe show a LITTLE concern??? For entrées my boyfriend and his mom got the grilled cobia. Tiny piece of fish with a bland corn situation. Mediocre at best. My father-in-law and I got the hanger steak. Mine was closer to rare than medium rare and kind of cold. Again...mediocre. Because of my allergy my potatoes came separately which I appreciated. Mine had aioli underneath them while my father-in-law's SAME potatoes had no aioli whatsoever. We asked someone why and he literally just smiled at us like... No explanation. My father-in-law ended up eating some of mine. Then Jason realized he completely forgot my mother-in-law's Brussels sprouts AFTER our entrées were already out. He offered to put them in but couldn't guarantee they would arrive before we finished eating. LOL okay never mind then?? By this point Jason seemed to be actively avoiding our table and honestly the entire staff looked MISERABLE. That was probably the weirdest part of the whole experience. Everyone looked annoyed. Nobody seemed like they wanted to be there. People kept walking behind us hitting my chair and my mother-in-law's chair. It was hot, cramped and just had a shitty vibe. The saving grace was dessert. The sticky toffee pudding and caramel cake were REALLY good and easily the best part of the entire meal. But two good desserts cannot save an entire dinner. Between the mediocre food, inconsistent service, forgotten order, weird attitude over basic questions and an UNDERCOOKED SHRIMP at a seafood restaurant...I truly do not understand the reputation. Maybe we caught them on a terrible night but New Orleans has way too many incredible restaurants for me to ever waste another meal here.

First, I absolutely loved the atmosphere! The restaurant was beautiful, especially the blue walls and the overall vibe. Now, let's talk about the FOOD! Everything we ordered was delicious! The oysters were AMAZING, the crab cakes were so flavorful, and the seafood gumbo was absolutely delicious. Everything was seasoned well, and I would definitely come back just for those oysters and crab cakes! The only downside was the service. Unfortunately, we waited quite a while for someone to come take our order. Eventually, the young lady who originally seated us had to come back and take our order herself because no one had approached our table. That was disappointing, especially considering how great everything else was. Despite the slow service, I really enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and location.
