Irish Coffee?!?!?! Skip it. Not good. Truly the exclamation to a lackluster meal.
    Janine R.

The good, the bad, and the ugly. Very little was above average. The ambience is great, the music is lively, the decor is warm and centered around Louisiana history. The mirror in the main room has their turtle soup recipe. I'll never fall in line with the cloves in turtle soup. Commander's does turtle soup best. Our waiters were nice, but faltered when asking questions about the mixed drinks and some of the food items. They need to get the fruit fly problem under control. They've been here the last three times we've been. The Escape drink is very refreshing albeit extremely petite. The Old Fashion was made better when they brought back the straight whiskey and put the mix and the cherry in it. Skip the bloody Mary. Nothing special. Ask for Cajun seasoning around the rim - it needs it. The amuse bouche was ok. It was goat cheese on a cracker. Nothing more, nothing less. The bread service is phenomenal. Their homemade hot biscuits are excellent and the choice of the three whipped butters is exceptional. The selection is Cajun spiced, Stein's cane syrup, and traditional whipped butter. The blue crab fritters are getting shakier every time we get them. I understand delicately frying something, but these need more of a crisp. They are barely a solid. The blackened crab claws are good. Mike Anderson's fried crab claws are decidedly better. The Death by Gumbo is fine. It's certainly not the best, second, or third best I've had, heck it's not even in the top ten. We had to wait a full six minutes after the quail was placed before us before the actual gumbo was poured over it. John Folse knows gumbo is serviced from a west African word for okra - there is no okra in this soup. For that matter, there was only one tiny oyster. A better name might be the "Death of Gumbo." Mama made it better fo sho. The red fish is once again good. It was a little crispy which was nice. The sauce should be poured over the fish. The carrots do not add anything to the dish. The spaghetti puttanesca is very nice. I would get this again. It's spicy, garlicky, and the pasta was al dente. Nice. The Brussels sprouts are fine. They're not great. They're not terrible. The sprouts are undercooked and could do with a bit of balsamic vinegar. The tropical bread pudding is good. Ask for extra ice cream. Insult to injury. We had a birthday at our table. Told them when we made the reservation. They confirmed it upon check-in. The waiter said happy birthday. That was it. Two other tables had birthdays and received desserts. Nothing here. Typical. The Irish coffee comes out in a cappuccino cup. Truly skip. Not good. The exclamation to the meal. What saddens me the most is hearing tourists saying the food is fantastic - bless their hearts. They don't know any better, cher.

It was my SO's birthday and he had never been to Restaurant R'evolution so we decided to celebrate there. They have free valet parking which is super convenient in the quarter. We arrived early so we enjoyed a drink in the bar before being seated. I made reservations for the chef's table, which is always fun seeing into the kitchen. They started us off with an amuse bouche - mine being cucumber and jelly since I'm allergic to shrimp. It was a delicious bite. Our waiter Dashaun was amazing and helped us with our choices. We ordered the Nola Hot Crab Claws to start and what a start it was! The crab claws were coated in dry spicy rub with a slaw in the center. He had accidentally put in an order of the Blue Crab Beignets, so he gave it to us on the house. Each beignet came with its own remoulade and they were delicious and packed with blue crab. Our final appetizer was the death by gumbo - smoky and delicious with the rice stuffed into the quail. For my entree I went with the visiting fish which was a Chilean sea bass with a chive beurre blanc, carrot foam, and some white asparagus. The beurre blanc and carrot foam paired nicely with the fish and I enjoyed every bite. Since it was my SO's birthday and we were also celebrating a year of owning our house they brought us each a little dessert to celebrate. When they bring the check, they also bring what looks like a cute jewelry box and each drawer contains delicious little goodies to finish off your dinner. The service and food were impeccable and I can't wait for us to have another celebration dinner here in the future.

Couldn't remember if I had been here before so decided to fix it one way or another and have my birthday dinner here. I'm leaning towards I hadn't been here because that was memorable. We booked the chefs table so we could see some of the cooking going on. Very cool inside looked like each room had a theme. Our waiter Dashaun was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and helped us with a tie breaker between two items. We started with crab claws and death by gumbo. They made the beignets by accident and comped them and brought our crab claws as well so we got to try both! Crab claws were amazing it had like a Cajun dry rub on it stacked around a good citrusy slaw mix. Beignets were also very good had 4 distinct remoulades. Think my favorite was a green onion one. Death by gumbo was rich and flavorful. Rice was stuffed in the quail just tear that thing apart and mix it in. For my main went with the wild boar mostly because I've never seen or had that before. It was almost more on the beef side flavor wise. More earthy and not as light as a pork. It melted in my mouth and the bbq sauce that came with it I wish I could buy a bottle. They brought me some good little ice cream cookies with a happy birthday chocolate on top, which was cool. Also, ordered a scoop of coffee toffee ice cream to finish off the meal. Very light and refreshing.

Things that went well: Our server, Heath, was fantastic. Charismatic and kind, me made us feel right at home. The space is lovely and elegant. I enjoyed being able to see the kitchen staff from the dining room. The muse was tasty and fun. The wild boar was very tasty and unique. My companion ordered this and I wish I had ordered it too as it was nicely done. Now, for the reason I went with four stars: I ordered the filet and it was underwhelming to say the least. Bland and dry. Not something I would recommend. I also tried the n/a placebo. It was beautiful but didn't taste good. This place is high end and prices reflect that but the food was just fine. The wild boar was tasty but the portion quite small. I don't know that we will be back but I will say the staff are fantastic and made our experience enjoyable for an otherwise forgettable meal.

    Rabbit confit

Came to dine on MLK day. They have a bar side and a spacious restaurant side. We were seated in the corner booth. For drinks, we ordered only jams and the revolution, which both of them are on the sweeter side. For food, we ordered rabbit confit. Underneath the rabbit were spaetzle, spinach, roasted mushrooms. It was my first time having spaetzle and rabbit and they were good! The rabbit tasted a bit like tougher chicken meat. Another dish we ordered was fire roasted short ribs. The color was pretty uniform. Taste wise, it was good. We also got pre apps. One of us was allergic to shrimp so they substituted the item. For soup, we got the lobster bisque! We were sharing so the crew split the soup for us. For sides, we ordered whipped potatoes and grilled asparagus. The whipped potatoes is so good!! I like the asparagus without too much hollandaise sauce. For dessert, we ordered creme brulee. It came in such a cute presentation! Almost too cute to eat! Also afterwards, we had small ice cream treat because it was a birthday celebration. After that, we were presented with a 3 layered chest box with various pastries and we tried our first pralines there. The staff was very patient to explain to us which pastries are in the boxes. Overall, I really enjoyed this restaurant!!

This was a very nice restaurant experience. Cocktails were good and the food and service was great. My husband got the shrimp and blue grits and I had butter pouched lobster with black pasta. The dessert was really a unique take on crème brûlée.

If dining in New Orleans is an art form, then Restaurant R'evolution is currently housing a masterpiece. My wife and I made our reservations months in advance--a necessary strategic move for a kitchen of this caliber--and were fortunate to secure a 5:15 PM seating. From the moment we were greeted by a lovely hostess and tucked into a perfectly intimate corner niche, we knew we were in for something beyond a standard meal. The Service: A Choreographed Production While the food is the soul of R'evolution, Travis (Lead) and Isaac (Support) are its heartbeat. Their performance was the epitome of legendary Southern hospitality. Travis is a true professional; after a brief conversation, he intuitively decoded our taste profiles and curated our entire evening. He guided us to the Vieux Carré--a sophisticated, superior evolution of the Old Fashioned--and navigated us through a menu of heavy hitters to ensure the volume and progression of food were exactly right. Throughout the night, Travis and Isaac provided the rich context and storytelling that turned a dinner into a theatrical production. The Culinary Journey The Prelude: After a vibrant cucumber shooter palate cleanser, we were served airy brioche and buttermilk biscuits. The accompanying trio of whipped butters--Sweet Cream, Cajun Spiced, and a transformational Maple Syrup Butter--set a high bar for what was to follow. The Openers: Travis suggested the Fire Roasted Oysters topped with crab meat and a half-order of Beignets. The oysters were incredibly tender, and the beignets were a revelation of cheesy goodness wrapped in a sweet, pillowy dough. The Main Event: We shared the Redfish, served with a crispy skin over a silky turnip puree with a tableside Béarnaise pour. We paired this with the Hellcat accompaniment--a crock overflowing with seasoned shrimp and crab. The balance of the sweet puree with the richness of the seafood was flawless. The Grand Finale The wine pairings Travis selected for dessert were nothing short of "spot on": Banana Bread Pudding (with vanilla wafer and rum sauce) paired with the Rare Wine Company "Boston Boal" Madeira. Maple Crème Brûlée (with pistachio ice cream) paired with a 2011 Chateau Suduiraut Sauternes. We finished with a "chest of cookies"--a final, elegant touch as we settled the tab. Chef Folse, you have built a temple of Creole and Cajun elegance, but it is professionals like Travis and Isaac who bring your vision to life for your guests. The value-to-cost ratio is exceptional for this level of execution. We will return the very next time we find ourselves in the French Quarter.

    Black linguine with lobster
    Jackson D.

Phenomenal food. The death by gumbo and redfish were standouts and some of the best food I've had. The black linguine with lobster was good nothing special though especially for the price point... The sauce was standout and carried the dish hardcore. The wine pairing was absolutely on point. Got the Madeira paired with the gumbo and it was unique and amazing. Most of the staff was superrrrr cool and helpful. The hostesses were kind of standoffish but not a huge deal. The timing of things was a little off as well. We were about done with our death by gumbo and then had to remind them about the wine pairing before we got it. It also took a while between when we were seated and when we actually got dinner menus. They just kept asking us about drinks and I guess it's on us but we eventually spoke up and just asked for food menus. No notes about ambiance, super pretty inside, just a very elegant vibe.

Phenomenal experience! Staff was absolutely amazing in providing an A+ experience from beginning to end. Food was outstanding and experienced rib-eye (39 days aging), Cajun lobster tail, shallot, roasted garlic, butter blue crab, bone marrow, riced stuffed quail gumbo, oysters, and lobster w/ black pasta (see pics). Beautiful setting in close proximity to Bourbon street (1/2 block away). Best dinner we had here in New Orleans, and we ate at several amazing restaurants.Ohhhh, and desserts!!!

    Maple Crème Brulee
    Esmeralda L.

I wish I could give this place more than 5 starts. Everything about this dinner was remarkable. The food was incredible! Perfect portions and packed with flavor! They start you off with incredibly soft biscuits with 3 different butter options; original, sweet, and Cajun. For appetizers we ordered the crab beignets and short rib boudin. Very delicious! For dinner my partner ordered the Chef's special Chilean Sea-bass and I ordered the Fire-Roasted Short Rib. We ate every last bite! For dessert we went back and forth before ultimately going with the Maple Crème Brulee. It was one of the best desserts I've had the pleasure of tasting. We almost went back the next night just to order the dessert. The restaurant itself was very spacious and had a modern feel to it. The service was INCREDIBLE. We had Ricky and Evan and they took our experience to the next level. WILL be back!!!

    Death by Gumbo

The ambiance was exquisite. Great lighting, music and decor. The service was top tier as well. Server was prompt, ensuring we got everything we needed. Water never ran low, empty plates didn't sit for long, and never felt rushed to get out of there. A+ experience. The food was delectable. The death by gumbo is a must. The Hot Crab Claws were spicy, not overwhelming, and had a hint of brown sugar that gave it a hint of sweetness. The Hangar steak was done to perfection and not on our radar until the waiter gave her rundown of the menu. So if you don't know what to get, ask! The staff knows the menu better than you ever will. Get a reservation, leave your ballcap and flip flops at home. Wear something presentable, with a collar and you'll 100% have a great time at this establishment.

Butter poached lobster and black linguine

Having visited several fine dining establishments in the surrounding area, R'evolution has the best team members, hands down! The service was attentive, comical, and helpful. We enjoyed our dining experience primarily because of the staff. The food took a backseat to the service but most of it was still enjoyable. The red snapper, crab beignets, and all of the cocktails were delicious and perfect. I do not recommend the lobster linguine. The establishment is adequately decorated and comfortable. There are considerations for comfort made and side tables for your handbag. I would definitely return to make a night of it with the team members and cocktails but would visit other establishments for food.

Went for my birthday dinner and will say I was surprised by both the service and food. I was afraid the food would be overpriced mini bites, but because of the death by gumbo rave, I had to try. We were weirdly surprised by the cucumber dish before our dinner, but the cucumber packed a punch in the mouth and gut with a pleasant flavor that makes you crave more. I also cant say no to the complimentary bread/biscuits and 3-type butters. My friends did not particularly like the two flavored butters, but I did as butter is my best friend. The dishes are small, so we decided to order multiple dishes to share. By the end we were all full! Crab beignets were the highlight! Not overly bready nor oily and packed with delicious crab filling. The death by gumbo was delicious as well, not overrated. I would say that not enough people talk about the seafood gumbo because my, was it so damn good! I was then served my cake and more dessert from the cookie box. Im not a fan of lemon but I could not put those cookies down. The praline was just as any praline in NOLA. Highly recommend to bring friends and a date.

Ask the Community - Restaurant R'evolution

    What is the dress code!?

Last time we went, we wore jeans. I wore a blazer, but other men in our group didn't. Unlike Commander's Palace or Galatoire's, Revolution won't stress you out about being underdressed.

Hi. I'm coming to NOLA in March for my birthday. Do you have gluten free options?

Would a 3-peice suit be too much for this place?

I mean not really. It depends on your sense of style. I dress for myself. I would do it--it's formal attire. But again I'm over the top so LOL

Are there TVs to watch the Saints game?

    Is their a Dress code?

No as in jackets aren't required or anything like that but people were dressed nicer than casual for the most part. There was a table of guys that had on polo shirts and khaki pants. They were the most casually dressed diners we saw.

Is it acceptable to come for the Jazz Brunch dresses for the Saints' game (jeans/jerseys)?

It is a nice venue but everyone loves the Saints who I don't think it will be a problem. :)

What are the vegetarian options here? I don't see any on the menu

You can order the risotto, but specifically mention to make it vegetarian. They will make your dish in vegetable broth and NO bacon. The chef was pretty flexible with this one dish.

    Are shorts acceptable?

I have seen people in shorts seated, unfortunately, but frankly I always dress up when going and feel it's more appropriate

Are kids ok here? We are traveling with an almost 5 year old, she is used to eating out 2-3 times a week, we always eat on the earlier side. We love to try new places and want to avoid getting stuck at mediocre tourist traps if possible.

You'll be fine so long as your kiddo is good with high end restaurants.

What's the dress code? Would a sun dress and cardigan be too casual?

    Agreed! Also, hey Mike! Lol

Rich, layered, and well-balanced with fresh elements that worked together on the plate. For entrées, we had a variety of cuts, including the Australian Wagyu, ribeye, butcher's cut, and lamb chops. The Wagyu stood out immediately. High quality, great sear, and finished tableside, which added to the overall experience without taking away from the food itself. Each steak was cooked precisely to temperature and full of flavor. The lamb chops paired with carrots and brussels were well executed and balanced. The sides complemented the meal well and did not feel like afterthoughts. You can also see their in-house dry aging setup, which speaks to the level of detail they put into their steak program. It shows in the final product. The drinks were solid across the board. The Old Fashioned and bourbon selections paired well with the meal and matched the food's quality. Service by Noelle was attentive and responsive throughout the night. Everything flowed well, and we were taken care of without feeling rushed or hovered over. This is not a casual dinner spot, but for a celebration or a night where you want a full experience, Doris Metropolitan absolutely delivers.

It started the moment we walked in. Glancing at the hostess, asking "OK to sit at the bar?", getting a nod, sitting down. An experience we've done in hundreds of restaurants. (We had reservations for a table but often prefer the bar.) The bartender -- whom we believe was named Mike -- started off his interaction with new customers as follows. "Did you check with the hostess?" I nodded in the affirmative, apparently that wasn't enough. "Check with the hostess", he ordered. I got up, went over the hostess stand, and confirmed, this time so "Mike" could see, that it was OK for us to sit at a half-empty bar. (In retrospect, we should have gotten up and walked out immediately, but it was late and even in the Quarter most places were closing for dinner.) You see, Mike clearly didn't want to be working that night. He was rude, inattentive, and condescending. And not just to us, to everyone seated at the bar. Slow making drinks, slow asking for orders, seething contempt for his customers. One time we asked to see a drink menu to decide on a new drink, he said, and this is a direct quote, "Do you want to see it or do you want to review it?" Mike's behavior was clearly well-known to the staff, because another staff member, who was off-shift and next to us at the bar, witnessed this behavior and arranged for a free dessert on the house (classy move on her part). She confided in us that Mike's pretty much always like that, but that he's a buddy of the general manager so seemingly un-fireable. Well, here's hoping someone reads this and thinks the better of Doris Metropolitan, or at least sitting at the bar. Unless you think service you'd get in a Paris tourist trap cafe is appropriate for a high-end steakhouse, you're better off spending your hard-earned money elsewhere.

Now I'm sure the hostess is accustom to people bringing in their pets and lying that they're service dogs, so she told me that we had to sit outside. That's obviously illegal, we got the manager involved, the manager quickly understood that we weren't bringing a pet and got us sat inside. We ordered drinks, they took a long time to come out. I asked the grade of the Wagyu on the Manhattan steak, and the server told me it was "6 or 12 or something" Wagyu obviously comes A1-A5, so I asked him to go check. He came back and said it was A5. Not knowing Wagyu grades, and the drinks taking a while was the only place the service was lacking, he was otherwise delightful. $70 bucks seemed kind inexpensive for an A5, but I had never actually had one before so I ordered it medium rare. We ordered the seafood platter, that was fine, the breading on the shrimp was kinda soggy. Main courses comes out, and my medium rare steak was literally back black and blue. It was still cold in the center. I'm not one to send food back, but I couldn't eat it. Sent it back. It comes back quickly... too quickly, still way under cooked. Sent it back a 3rd time. At that point the rest of my family was done eating and I asked for it to just be removed instead. Which they did, and they boxed it up for me anyway in addition to comping all of our drinks, which was of course very nice. I ended up eating that steak for lunch the next day, and IF it was Wagyu, it was A1, there is a 0% chance that had the marbling to be an A5, I've had prime New York's from CostCo that had better marbling. So I give them 2 stars, the server had some learning to do, been there, but was very nice. They made up for their errors on the bill, I appreciate that, but we still went there with higher expectations. 2 stars is kind.

From the moment we sat down, the staff set the tone--professional, genuinely friendly, and impressively efficient. We began with a trio of starters that showcased both richness and restraint. The foie gras torchon was silky and indulgent, perfectly complemented by fruit confiture and warm, toasted Bellegarde Bakery bread--a classic pairing done right. Marinated crab claws, dressed in a lively chili vinaigrette, delivered a bright, briny punch, while the pickled pineapple and jalapeño chips added just the right balance of sweetness and heat. A cucumber salad rounded out the starters, crisp and refreshing, acting as a welcome palate reset before the mains. For entrées, comfort and finesse shared the plate. The confit chicken thighs were meltingly tender, paired with ham-braised greens swimming in a tangy apple cider vinegar broth. A lovely Dijon cream tied everything together, adding richness without overwhelming the dish. Equally memorable was the half smoked duck, beautifully executed and deeply flavorful, served over a smooth pumpkin-sweet potato purée. The cherry bourbon glaze brought a subtle sweetness, while the pepitas added texture and a nutty finish. Dessert was the perfect exclamation point on an already wonderful meal: a slice of hot chocolate cheesecake, decadent and deeply chocolaty, crowned with toasted marshmallow fluff that leaned just enough into nostalgia without crossing into excess. Toups Meatery continues to deliver thoughtful, soulful cooking with polish and heart--comfort food elevated, served by a team that clearly knows what they're doing. A thoroughly satisfying experience from start to finish.

That's clearly communicated when you're greeted, so naturally it sets the expectation for shareable portions. We started with the ricotta and meatballs. Overall, portions felt on the smaller side, but the ricotta, especially at $18, was honestly a bit shocking in size. When we asked about it, a server jokingly said "inflation." I get it, but still. The two guys I dined with come here often and were actually the ones pointing out that portions have seemed to shrink. For mains, we each ordered a pasta. One was a server recommended agnolotti with crab, corn, and roe. It was decent, but the broth felt a bit too loose and could've used more depth and richness. That said, the crab portion was generous, the pesto was great, and the red sauce pasta was solid. We also ordered two pizzas, hands down the highlight of the meal. Easily the best thing we had. One small but off putting detail, the red pepper flakes were served in an open jar rather than a shaker. It made me question how many hands had been in it, especially since it appeared to have been reused from another table. Not the most sanitary presentation. Dessert was a strong finish. Panna cotta, tiramisu, and olive oil cake were all fresh and delicious. Drinks included a cocktail for me and beers plus an espresso martini for the table, all fine. Service wise, things started okay but felt rushed toward the end. We even mentioned we were still picking at food and what seemed to be a manager still cleared plates from the table. The tables themselves are also very small, which doesn't help when you're doing family style dining. Our server appeared to be training someone but never introduced them, which made things feel a bit awkward. Also, when resetting silverware, it felt rushed and a little careless, almost tossed onto the table rather than placed. Overall, the experience was good but not great. The food had its highlights, but portion sizes versus price and some service missteps held it back. 6/10, and honestly it reminded me why I hadn't felt the urge to come back before.

Loved the ambiance inside as the bar is very lively and decorated, while the dining room is more classy and elegant. Food here is super good, though the menu is pricy so keep that in mind. Potato soufflé app was a hit! Perfect appetizer in my opinion and would definitely recommend you try it when you go. As for recommendations that you must try when you go, the crab au gratin was one of the best dishes I've ever had!!! I shared a bite with those at my table and every person just had that look of pure bliss on their face (like the food critic in Ratatouille after he took the first bite). It was absolutely phenomenal and you must try it, though I'd recommend you share as it might induce a stage 5 food coma if you put that bad boy down yourself. I also ordered the Veal chop which was delicious! It was cooked about medium with a nice sear, was flavorful, and was a pretty decent size. We didn't get dessert as we were all stuffed, but I'm sure they're tasty as well. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here and would highly recommend you check this place out -- whether you're a local or someone visiting. I know I'll be back the next time I go, probably to try that crab au gratin again as I'm still thinking about it weeks later!!
