I only go to this gym when I'm visiting friends in PHX, so I can't speak to the cost or anything like that. Since I'm a guest, I just end up paying for shoe rental, which is reasonable. I suspect the monthly price is actually ridiculous, but that's up to you to decide because I'm not paying! Ok let's talk about the bad things first, and they're not bad enough to lower it from 5-stars: 1. The place gets busy. Too busy, in my humble introvert opinion. Not much you can do about that, but avoid peak hours. 2. Every other gym I've gone to uses tape to mark their routes, which means any route can use any climbing hold. At this gym, they color code them BY THE HOLDS, and then the route difficulty is by color also, which means there are lots of cool holds that you'll never get to touch simply because they're a different color from the difficulties you're doing. This does limit the variety somewhat. Ok, everything else is good. The facility itself has like, everything. I don't even want everything - I just want to boulder. But they've got a vast outdoor area to relax or play in, studios, weights, and some wild varieties of climbing gear. The bouldering area is very large, with all kinds of features that I don't even know the official names for, but you can climb over and under and around pretty much any type of scenario you could want. The mats are premium, and they have down-climb holds in a lot of areas which is great for people like me who try to avoid higher-impact falls. While I do appreciate the hole-in-the-wall grungy gyms where things might be a little more personal and less crowded, I honestly think you'll have trouble finding a better climbing gym than this, anywhere. read more

Okay, this is a tough one to review because the overall place is 5 stars for sure. I'll start with the positives- Bouldering Project is a large, clean, and airy climbing gym, specifically for bouldering. Hence the name. This was my second time coming in. I've been here before for a Yelp event and meant to come back sooner. I came back to bring a friend who is new to yoga to this "slow flow" class I found on Class Pass. I am not a member here at BP, I'm going to be coming in for yoga through Class Pass so I can't speak to their memberships. The facility is good, they have a big open bouldering area, large work out areas in the back, and a yoga room towards the entrance. I didn't check out the locker rooms. I'm mainly giving 3 stars due to the yoga class itself. It was advertised as a slow flow class, for people seeking a slower pace with mindful, gentle movements. This sounded perfect for my new to yoga friend. However, this class was not slow at all. It was not gentle. It was a regular vinyasa flow class. It would have been a completely normal vinyasa class, if we had been looking for that type of class. I also didn't see any mention that the room was being heated, so it was a heated vinyasa class and I could barely hear the teacher. I typically like a heated yoga room, I'm a regular at hot yoga studios which are way hotter, but this experience wasn't just for me. It was meant to introduce someone new to yoga. It was fine, my friend did okay, I could tell he was having a hard time keeping up (because it wasn't SLOW) but it ended up being fine. Yoga is always good in my experience. Constructive feedback: teachers please project your voice if you're going to play music during class, I truly only heard 50% of what she said. For me, it was fine, I've been practicing yoga since 2009. I know what I'm doing. However, others seemed lost. Also ask if there are new yoga ppl in your class so you can make sure you're giving clear instructions, and most importantly please teach the type of class you have said it will be. Vinyasa Flow and Slow Flow are not interchangeable just because they both have the word "flow" in the name. read more

I have genuinely loved every experience with this Bouldering Project! The space is perfect for all climbing levels, houses a delightful cafe area with WiFi, and is beautiful and vibrant all throughout. Plus, it offers plenty of amenities that make a membership totally worth it: community events, a solid "normal" gym, hot yoga and strength classes, shoe demos with discounts, etc. The intro and beginner classes -- free with a day pass, punch pass, or membership -- are a really great place to get started and meet friends on your level. Everyone is so supportive, including both staff and fellow members, since everyone is working on their projects with new routes always available. Falling is part of the fun (especially since the mats make for a comfy landing)! I'm super comfortable trying out new techniques and learning from others here. I'm on a punch pass now, which is great if you're only going once a week or less, but I totally will be ditching my normal gym membership for Bouldering Project in the near future! read more

I used to really like this gym I belong to, but realized in the last couple of months, I haven't really been coming here because the quality of yoga classes I have gone to wasn't up to what I would consider good, given that I am a founding member for close to 2 years. I used to really like the classes, but they lost a bunch of really good instructors and things just don't feel the same. I also recall that for months, there was a pane of mirror that was broken in the yoga studio and it didn't get fixed for at last 3+ months. I came tonight to a hot power flow and found the class pretty awkward. The yoga instructor about 15 minutes in just forgot the sequence and left us all literally hanging as she couldn't remember what we were doing next. I also didn't love the sequence she put together as some didn't seem to work, making it very limited in what you can get out of the pose. The room was beyond hot and towards the end, I felt quite nauseous, but that's a personal problem. While I am not a yoga teacher, but I have been practicing yoga for about 25 years, so I've taken a few classes to say the least. I think my opinion counts. I will say the last couple of months, I come in here infrequently, but sadly each time I come, the classes haven't been phenomenal, so I guess that makes me not want to come back. One of the shower rooms in the women's locker room was kind of dirty and I didn't love that experience. I'm considering letting my founding membership lapse given these recent experiences. I can just buy some passes when I want to climb. read more

Prrreeetttyyy rad. This climbing gym is impressive. I can see why everyone speaks about this place in an excited manner. Immediately, so much parking is available. Then as you approach, there's a large 'grass' area with hammocks, chairs, outdoor games and shade all over. Entering the space, you can sense how large it is. There's a shop To the left with drinks, snacks and bars, health products, clothes and more thats stocked with a few things I haven't sent before and several I have. To the right is one of many lounges, this area has the most cushioned seats and is in front of a coffee shop. That's right, there's a coffee shop in there that serves Tucson coffee from Presta and pastries that include vegan and gf options. The donuts are delish! Take a further look around and you'll find the following: -showers -individual bathrooms -locker rooms -tons of seating all around -space for work or study -a large open gym with a wide variety of equipment -classroom for yoga, fitness classes -hang board area -training board area -kids zone (INCREDIBLE) -staff spaces -water fountains -lockers and open cubbies -rules and directions -front desk -accessible bathrooms and showers -and a variety of bouldering walls A lot to share because there's a lot there. Love coming to BP for hot yoga classes! Both times have taken Ilona's power flow. I love her sequencing, playlists, and intentions she sets for the practice. The room is spacious and vibey and not too hot. There is always an incense burning before an after class making it such a calming atmosphere. read more

I first heard about Boulder Project via social media. They were drumming up excitement about their grand opening of their Tempe location, holding community events such as yoga and hiking. I loved to see it, and while I did not have the opportunity to join, the turnout appeared well received by the community. My typicaly climbing gym is very close to where I live, and visiting BP has always been pushed off due to convenience factor. Upon pulling into the parking lot, I understood what the hype was about. Visiting on a Saturday morning, I had no trouble getting a parking spot with such a large lot. Considering it is literally a complex, I'm glad they planned for that. There is a lovely green space in the front and they so happened to be holding a KB fitness class. Did not join this time, but a good turnout was noted. They also had some hammocks for lounging. Upon entrance, there is a QR code scan to complete your waiver. The staff was not quick to direct in their process, but when we did get to them, they were friendly. Our orientation was quick but sufficient, which I appreciate! I've been to some gyms that require a 45-60 minute orientation, and that is just too long. A day pass is $25. $27 with tax. Monthly adult membership is $95 for recurring, $119 prepaid, and $1045 anually. They also offer punch passes at $225 for 10 visit. They seemed to have discounts for teachers and other sub-groups to make climbing for accessible. Nice to see, but I think the climbing community can always do more to make it more accessible to all. This gym is BIG. The climbing space is average, maybe slightly larger than average. They were in process of changing their mats so about 25% of the gym was closed off. It did feel a bit crowded and busy, but I was surprised at how quiet it was. They also opened up some of the youth climbing space to accomodate for the 25% of the gym that was closed due to mat changing. Their grading system deviates a bit from the V system in the sense that they use colors that correspond with difficulty. We had a lot of fun playing on the routes and felt it was a good and appropriate challenge in the setting. With the yoga studio, workout space, group class space, outdoor space, and cold plunge area, a lot of time can be spent here. They even have a coffee space, as well as desks to allow for study space. I was very impressed by their workout space. They had cardio and weight training options, with all the things you could need to get a good workout or warm up in prior to hitting the walls. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at BP. There was defintely a lot to do and see, but the space itself still felt in transition. Walls not fully painted. Tarps covering spaces. I'd like to see BP again when the construction is fully complete. Dare I say, if I lived closer, I may consider getting a membership here. read more

So stoked to have BP join the valley community. Though there are many great gyms in the valley, there has not been one that has as many amenities that Bouldering Project is bringing to the table. Many of the local climbing gyms are exclusively focused on bouldering or top rope/sport, some have both, but what I have truly missed is an all around fitness facility, such as weight rooms, or classes. Though I know this may not be important to everyone and can be hard to achieve in a niche sport, such as climbing, I was ecstatic to see the full line up of offerings at BP. They are bouldering specific in the climbing department, but in addition they offer yoga classes, hot yoga, HIIT classes, a weight section, lockers, showers, cold plunge, saunas, a coffee bar, an exclusive kid climbing zone, a massive space for bouldering with plush pads and great setting, as well as coworking spaces. Not all the amenities are available at the moment, as they just officially opened and are still working out a few kinks, but as they continue to roll out their offerings, I can very well see myself and inner circle spending a LOT of time here. Not to forget, aesthetically, it is an absolutely gorgeous facility, bright and inspiring with attention to the details. The BP team is so welcoming and friendly from the yoga instructors to the front staff and have made a huge effort to get involved in the community from weekday and weekend events during their pre-opening months and by the looks of it are continuing to have a line up of partnerships on the calendar still. As far a location goes, they are located in South Tempe and have a great large parking lot. I do imagine they will only get even more popular( already lots of crowds/members) with their location being so close to ASU campus, but with their generous hours, definitely ample time to avoid rushes. I did lock down a founding membership, but for everything they offer, their standard monthly pricing for an adult is very reasonable and they offer other membership offers from annual to day. I look forward to many more visits and enjoying all their great amenities - but definitely worth a visit whether you are a new climber or avid one! read more

Easily one of the most impressive climbing gyms I've been to on the valley. I was shocked at how big the gym was and also the amenities that were offered. I love the single-stalled restrooms that are easily accessible across the entire facility. There's a full gym and weight room with machines, squat racks, and cardio machines - plus a whole yoga studio snd fitness room that offers classes (included with a membership!!!). The amount of coworking spaces is also incredible - plus a little coffee and tea shop on site, as well! My favorite part was the "youth" section - which is mainly reserved for children's parties - but accessible when there are no parties happening. It's just as difficult as the main mats, just a bit shorter walls, which I was totally happy with as a beginner! I had that whole area to myself for almost an hour before a couple of other folks joined. We were also told that there will soon be a sauna, cold plunge tubs, and red light therapy renovations happening soon! Definitely thinking of getting a full membership here soon! read more

Visited this location after seeing advertisements pop up on my Instagram feed. first thing I noticed was the color grading which made finding projects so much faster than my home gym. the projects they have here are very technical and different to what I normally climb. lots of shared holds with other problems. Staff: One of the best things about BP is the staff. Staff members are warm, friendly, and remember names. Space: Climbing space is quite large and they're a lot of climbs available with a good variety of levels. Route setting is creative, fun, and often aesthetic. Regular gym, class space, yoga studio, and locker rooms also included. It's expensive compared to a normal gym membership and day passes are kinda pricey. If you're just checking it out, I'd recommend going on a promo night. read more

I've been meaning to find a rock climbing joint for years and finally made to this place. Super legit! It seems hidden behind distribution center of trucks, but not surprising with the amount of space and walls they have there. There are signs on their building, so you can't miss it. Got a tour, and they have quite a bit of space, with a huge focus on climbing. Also, I love that they are community centric and even have upcoming spaces for working, similar to we-work office space. Work remotely while taking breaks to Boulder some walls. Bike parking and outdoor seating areas with hammocks are such a cool touch, when it's bearable out. While the membership fee seems kind of outrageous, it's worth it if you plan on coming 3-4 times a month, along with your 2 guest passes per month. I'm thinking about taking up their $25 (+$5 shoe rental) day pass option as that seems like a good option aside from the full $95/month. read more

Don't get a membership. They'll lie about the terms, and they'll lie about cancellations. They act like they are, but in reality they're no better than any other thieving gym that will lie to your face about how easy it is to cancel a membership, then throw up a bunch of paperwork when you actually try to. These people are just simple f*in thieves. Planet Fitness is easier to cancel. Jam of the Month Club is easier to cancel. Deleting your facebook account is easier. EDIT: Bouldering Project reconsidered this policy and has reenacted their previous policy. They also took into consideration the feelings of the climbing community after many spoke up about the way this policy change was enacted. Thank you BP for listening to the communities feedback! Bouldering Project recently changed their Guest Pass Policy with only 1 week of notice from allowing members 2 Guest Passes per month to now only allowing you to bring new people each time (you can't even bring someone who has been there before under this new Guest Policy). This is after they ALREADY updated the policy down from 5 Guest Passes to 2 Guest Passes. I strongly encourage Bouldering Project to reconsider this policy and listen to the large amount of members that are upset by this change. I am glad they listen to their community! --Old Review-- They have a nice facility, and could easily be the best gym in the valley. However, since I have became a member: - They have removed the guest passes. I have never been to a climbing gym that hasn't had guest passes, so it's weird to see them go. Even when I went to their sister gyms in Seattle they had them, but maybe that's changed too. - They still have not finished the locker rooms and saunas. - Originally they advertised having a bar or study area in the facility. The perfect example of 'can't leave well enough alone' here with the yoga program that leaves everything to be desired. ugh. Quite the disappointment, indeed. My husband and I came to check it out while we were in town for a few weeks, recently. He's a senior yoga instructor (30 years of teaching & anatomy specialist) and I'm a medical doctor, and oh my.... they really need to do some fine tuning as far as the entire history of actual yoga, and anatomy is concerned with their teachers. The instructor was using the wrong anatomical reference points, incorrect information regarding the chakras (color, location, representation, etc), and just mixing it all up at their leisure. They also thought it would be a good idea to talk about all the negative things that could happen if that (mixed up) chakra was out of balance. In other words, we all had to listen to her Debbie Downer, depressing, disease-filled monologue the entire class. And it was supposed to be restorative ~ but far from it. It was the furthest thing from relaxing. The sequencing was odd, uncomfortable, and made no sense at all. The music was a mess, and then they decided to blast the ceiling fans on extra high, the moment we reclined into shavasana. Also, not relaxing! And they managed one of the biggest yoga faux-pas ever... they never asked anyone about any injuries or health/medical concerns before class started! What?! Are they just getting certifications out of Cracker Jack's boxes these days? Aside from this disaster, the other classes offered are all heated (Bikram, anyone?), and they offer several classes with weights incorporated (NOT yoga, anyone?) - all this to say, just offer classical, traditional, REAL yoga. Let Ashtanga be ashtanga, let Bikram be Bikram, and please, let Corepower be the pseudo-yoga that it is, and leave it elsewhere. If people want that rubbish, they can go find it - this Bouldering Project is giving a terrible name to the company. Such a shame! Can't recommend at all. 0/10 read more

Love this gym! My *only* wish is that they had more treadmills. There's 3-4 runners that show up early in the morning to run and only 2 treadmills. A place like this should really have 4-6, in my humble opinion. Other than that, this place is a climbers/fitness junky dream! Double plus, they have Concept2 rowers! Woo!! read more

This place just opened up and I got a smokin deal for an annual membership (deals are going until October 1st). I just went for the first time for a yoga sculpt class with Brooke, it was hard but great. It's definitely going to help me up my fitness level. The facility is not 100% finished but is still great and will continue to get better. I'm so happy a place with a fitness center, fitness and yoga classes and rock climbing opened up near me. I've been climbing in the phoenix area for a few years now and thought to give bouldering project a try-- wrong idea. The mats feel hard and unsafe compared to other gyms in the area and every time I've brought it up to staff after twisting an ankle or hurting my wrists, they ignore me and respond rudely. The route setting is not good enough to justify the off putting staff, high costs, and safety concerns. Will be sticking to smaller local gyms in the future. read more
