My only con so far is that, in my experience, the trainers haven't been very engaged with the class or offered much guidance on form. One of the things I love most about group fitness is when instructors hype up the room & shouting out members, offering motivation, or demoing the moves alongside the class instead of just in the beginning and I haven't really seen that yet. That said, the staff are all super friendly, the gym offers so much more than just strength training (which I'm excited to explore), and the playlists are a solid 10/10. As a newcomer as I have not been to the location in over 8 years, I really appreciated how she took the time to guide me through the movements, made sure I felt confident with the form, and most importantly--made me feel so welcome. Summit Society is located inside Team Forty Four which is off Indian School and 38th St. The studio offers an intense 30minute climb / workout. Before the beginning of each class you're introduced to the Versa Climber along with the various strokes and the Do's/Don'ts. After that it's go time!! What I love most: -Everyone is welcomed: doesn't matter your fitness level. Even pregnant women are getting on the Versa and killing it!! Aka me! -The class is only 30minutes. Which means you're putting in work to get the most out of the climb. And don't worry if you can't bring the motivation your instructor will with upbeat playlists and words of encouragement. -Every instructor at Summit Society is super knowledgeable and brings so much to the table. Whether you have questions about health and wellness or technique or class schedules don't fret you'll get answers and so much more. -My favorite instructor thus far is Angela aka Gomez. Her classes are always fire! She brings the heat and makes sure we're all putting in work to get the most out of our sessions. Her playlists, positive feedback and dance moves keeps you coming back to get better and better! -Umm did I fail to mention how sweet the cozy studio is?!! Rumble Boxing was showing up in my social media feeds and wss offering a free first class so I…read moresigned up to get the experience. I've never boxed before but the thought of punching a bag has always appealed to me. Especially when work gets stressful. I've wanted to learn how to box but just timing never worked out, but yesterday I gave it a try here. This isn't going to be like formal boxing at all, more like a exercise version of boxing. It was still fun but different than I imagined. I thought I would be learning to box and kick the entire time but you only do that for about half the class. This studio is located right on Tempe Town Lake where there is a plaza for living, etc. It's in a busy part of Tempe and parking is tight here. You do have to park in the garage above the studio but your parking is validated every time you come for class, so that works out nicely. While the first class is free, if you don't bring your own wrap, the studio offers it for $25, seems a bit steep but then again this business has to stay open. They loan you boxing gloves free for your first class and provide towels. There are lockers here but for the life of me I can't figure out these self locking lockers, so I don't even bother to lock up my stuff. The ladies working here are very helpful and said they would watch my stuff. Two bathrooms available but will say the lobby is small and no place to sit while you wait for your class to start. They need a little bigger lobby. This class felt like the same ambiance is a cycling studio I used to go to, it's like being inside a club. I found the instructors mic set was way too loud and the music sound level will blow out your eardrums. I did see ear plugs available and next time will use them. Instruction was ok for me as I am new to boxing and could have used a few pointers but it's not like rocket science to figure out how to punch a bag, just keep punching and learn the specific moves later!! About 30 minutes of the class, you're working with weights, squats, burgers, lunges, core work out, etc. While I don't do this regularly, I definitely appreciated it as I want to do a bit more cross training. I also worked up a nice sweat and my HR was probably in 160s, I was working but not at my max. You begin class boxing and then come back to finish more boxing. I loved the boxing!! I like how boxing gloves feel when you punch the bag and there is a bounce/spring to it. What I really wanted to do too was to kick the heck out of the bag too. I want to learn how to kick on top of box. I enjoyed thie cardio boxing class and I did sign up for some more classes. They offer a 2 in 1 class deal and then after that you can either buy 4 classes a month for $89 or 5 drop in classes for $129. I'm ready to box some more! Great, fun workout and a nice variation to everything else I am already doing!

We were visiting Tempe and wanted to squeeze in a workout so found this place on Yelp. It was super easy to sign up and only $15 for a drop in which I think is on the lower end of most gyms whether it's spin, yoga, or training. The instructor was very welcoming and made us feel comfortable as newbies. Let's be honest no one likes being in an unfamiliar class unsure of where to stand or what to expect alongside a bunch of regulars. The class was tough -- but in a good way. Their leg day was a true leg day, I don't think I've ever done so many squats (in various forms of course). My legs are absolute jello. As with any interval class you really can go at your own pace though it's hard to not feel motivated to push yourself with the trainer walking around encouraging you. I like that they start exactly on time even if the entire class is present just in case there are late stragglers. The space is HUGE - you can fit tons of people in there without it feeling congested or as if you're stepping on someone's toes. It's clean with lots of equipment options so you're not fighting over weights. The playlist was great (though wouldn't mind it louder to drown out the "omg this hurts when is it going to end" thoughts passing through my head haha) They have a smoothie and açaí shop connected to the gym which I wish we could've tried but we're on our way to brunch. If I lived here that would be heaven and so convenient to wrap my workout with a protein shake onsite.

Each trainer is really focused on making sure you get the most from your workout by correcting your form and keeping you motivated during class. They're also always happy to provide you with alternative exercises if you have an injury or simply aren't coordinated enough to do something. I've also noticed that they all really try to remember your face and name- which holds you accountable when you skip a day or two! If you're the kind of person who needs a lot of positive reinforcement, take a class from Aurora, Bobby, or Nick- they'll be your biggest cheerleaders throughout class! If you're looking to improve your form and performance I highly recommend taking a class from Dean on Tues/Weds/Thurs evening- he's not shy about telling you what you could be doing differently to achieve maximum results. The staff, coaches, and athletes at Free Range have been the kindest, coolest and most encouraging people I've met. CrossFit always seemed so intimidating, you hear about that intimidating and cliquey culture at some gyms, but not at Free Range. No matter what level you are, the trainers take the time to make sure you feel welcome, your form is good, and that you're challenging yourself the best you can. But it was very clear when I dropped in to my first class that all of the coaches take a tremendous amount of pride in their work. They are experts in their profession and wanted to make sure that I was doing the various movements properly. After a few months, I continue to be amazed by the culture of the gym. It is a positive and enthusiastic group of people who come from various backgrounds and experience. I think most members develop resilience and are able to do things they didn't think were possible.
