First off, I absolutely LOVE yoga here and LOVE the staff. While the studio itself promotes a calm…read moreand welcoming atmosphere, my experience is constantly impacted by interactions with a staff member, Amy. Yoga spaces are typically rooted in kindness, mindfulness, and approachability, so it is disappointing to encounter communication or the lack of, that feels unwelcoming. This is not a once in a while experience, this happens every time I visit the studio. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to interact with her before entering my class as my vibe is completely shifted. She's short, she seems extremely irritated, she seems as though she would like to be anywhere but there, she does not smile, when you ask questions she makes you feel stupid, and when someone says thank you or have a good day she flat out ignores you. I hope this feedback is taken as an opportunity to better align staff interactions with the values the studio represents, especially someone sitting at the front desk. If this is the behavior the studio knowingly allows, I may have to cancel my 3 year long membership.

Great yoga school. Though I will admit, I decided not to complete the program. I signed up for the…read morefirst module as a way to integrate the physical and metaphysical experience over the past several years. I came in knowing nothing of yoga at all (in the physical practice of it). I did feel a little as if it was about the whole program rather than acknowledging some of us really are there to deepen our own practices. I believe it was the first class that we were writing letters for when we completed the program... this had me feel it was necessary to enroll in more than I had intended. The instructor was great, the classmates were great, but... I certainly felt it wasn't for basic entry level yoga, beginners. However, maybe it was just me? I decided to pull out while I was still able and deepen my own practice on my own. As for yoga classes, in 1 hr intervals? I have to admit, I have no experience beyond attending the program itself, since it is a yoga school.

I think this place was maybe 3 stars for me but I bumped it up to 4 as the instructor I had today…read morewas excellent. I like a nice sweaty hot vinyasa to get me out of my head and came for a class today and really enjoyed it. This studio is in Arcadia where a lot of things are but the studio itself is one room, a changing room outside the studio and a bathroom tucked in the back. Lockers available to store your items. No shower available. Yoga Box offers 3 free classes so I decided to take them up on the deal. I've been practicing yoga for about 25 years and have often tried different studios in this way. The first class was so so, but the teacher was nice and even gave me a new student welcome gift. She was a bit too eager to talk to me and I just wanted to practice and flow. The other issue was that I couldn't understand the instructions clearly as our teacher had an accent where I couldn't quite make out the instructions. But, she had a very nice playlist. What makes this place a bit annoying is that once they get your phone number, they have someone by the name of Emma that won't stop bugging you about signing up for a monthly membership. I don't mind actually buying some classes here and occasionally taking a class here and there but I was firm about not wanting a monthly membership (i already belong to 2 gyms) and this person couldn't take a hint, so that was a turn off. The thing that saves this place is I took a very good class with Debbie today. She gave excellent instruction, got us all sweaty and loved her Hawaii playlist. Ukulele is the way to my heart. Overall, it was an ok studio, give a try as they do give you 3 free classes and decide for yourself if you want to keep coming here.

I had a lovely experience yesterday at Yoga Nirvana. The…read morelocation of the studio is a bit confusing, being nutsled within a larger business complex. But I found it eventually! I was greeted warmly by the owner of the studio -Jim- when I first arrived, waiver quick and easy to fill out. $15 reasonably priced drop-in rate :) Lobby is cute, bohemian-like with nice water features and plants. The building itself was clearly built in the 80s or something, low ceilings kind of stuffy. It's evident the yoga studio was once a doctors office or something. While this certainly doesn't help the ambiance it doesn't kill it either! Jim did a great job rescuing the vibe with fresh paint and cozy decor. The studio space is painted in a deep golden hue, very inviting feeling. Great move with the dark wood! Nice large mirrored wall, warm lighting. Class started a few minutes late, but nobody -including myself - seemed to mind much. Great for intuitive organic movement! When Jim teaches, his expertise shines through. His cues are strong and direct, his voice is firm but loving. He leaves great time for silence and feeling out the postures just as much as he weaves in wisdom and strong vinyasas! I LOVED his class! I felt very safe in the space, especially with Jim's hands-on adjustments. I say this with sincerity, regarding the #metoo movement and it's very real existence in the yoga world - I felt SAFE. These adjustments were gentle and the touch was non-invasive. He made his presence known, gave the adjustment, then removed himself from the situation just as quickly as he arrived. This was my first proper class at Yoga Nirvana and I really enjoyed it. I walked out feeling like I just gave my body and soul a gift. I was sweaty yet serene. I hope to go back very soon!
