Great for music, great for dancing but the individuals that run the place are terrible. I went outside to smoke a cigarette and they never let me back in. Even though I had my ID and ticket present. They are extremely unprofessional. But I would expect nothing less from a bunch of college students. read more

One star for one very good reason, they treat under 21's like crap for no good reason. As others have mentioned even for all ages shows they do not allow people with under 21 tickets to go anywhere on the first floor. The upper deck is at the very back and turns the venue into a subpar pepsi center. This is so absurd I would never buy tickets here if I knew. But they do not warn purchasers of tickets at anytime and even have the gall to charge extra for under 21 tickets. Plenty of great venues get by with wristbands and x's but the theater is apparently too inept to handle such a system. They have lost a customer for life. I hope Boulder gets a sensible venue at some point (other than The Fox of course who does pretty much the same thing) read more

This is a great place to see a show! As opposed to the Fox theater, which is sort of my idea of hell. Anyway . . . back to the task at hand. I've now seen a handful of shows at the Boulder theater and am always happy with the experience. I saw Leftover Salmon on Saturday night after Thanksgiving, and we made a very smart decision. Rather than waiting until right before we know the band will come on, we decided to go in as soon as the doors opened. Smart smart smart decision! We were able to head up to the balcony and get seats front and center with an amazing view of the stage. Don't get me wrong, I like to be really up close and personal with the band, but my days of being crammed into the floor with a bunch of hippies are long gone. (Read: I'M OLD). So this is sort of the best of both worlds - we had amazing views of the stage, and when we felt like geting up to dance, we could do so without being crammed into a small space like sardines. Sure, we had some extra time to kill, but they have 2 bars and although the drinks a bit expensive, it's worth it to secure a good spot for a great show. All in all, every experience here has been great and it's one of my favorite places to see a show. read more

Boulder Theater - Leftover Salmon @ Boulder Theater - Performing Arts Near Me - Boulder, Colorado

We were here for the Boulder Film Festival so our experience is probably different than most reviewers. First, this is not a movie theater. It is a cavernous building stuffed full of narrow temporary seating squeezed together in impossibly tight quarters. The seats are uncomfortable and narrow so you WILL be sharing your neighbors' space (no arms on the chairs). One row had less than 6" of leg space - all but two of the seats were empty since no one could stand to be that squished. Terrible viewing - the theater has terraces and is not sloped, unless you are in the front row by one of the railings, your view of the screen will be blocked by multiple heads in front of you. In addition, every time a door was opened to the outside, light flooded the theater and it was distracting enough to cause people to look around - very weird. Unsafe: the pathway through the theater is carpeted in a dark color and it is difficult to see the stairs. We saw numerous older customers stumble as they walked down the stairs (they could not see the stairs - no floor lighting) and one older woman almost fell while she was returning to her seat in the dark. This place is a lawsuit ready to happen. Would we ever return here? Unlikely. If there is a film we truly want to see I will find an art theater in Denver (hopefully a Real movie theater with lighting and seats). I would rather drive a long way and have a nicer experience. read more

Definitely the premiere music venue in Boulder. Much bigger than Fox Theatre with an upscale ambiance. I love seeing shows here. The archictecture and paintings really make it a special place. A lot of venues like the Fox and the Ogden in Denver have a similar layout but are tacky and rundown, making it feel like a dungeon. The Boulder Theatre is a pleasurable place to enjoy a show with it's spacious and open feeling. The sound system is good too. read more

Great theater. Small and intimate setting, like a big living room. Major downfall is the bar - I was charged $48 ($56 after tip) for a total of 3 gin and tonics. WTF Outrageous!!!! Maybe I should have closed my tab after each visit to the bar. read more

I was here for a graduation ceremony so my experience was different than most people's. I can't really talk about the service because there wasn't any. I can say that the lobby is incredibly small, the bathrooms are small and the auditorium is nice I guess. The set up being limited in space I wouldn't think would make it very conducive to relaxing I get the impression it's one of those, get in and get out kind of deals. There really wasn't any places for people to sit and lounge so the older folks in attendance had to just stand around waiting in the lobby until they were ready to start the ceremony. The interior, architecturally, is fairly well maintained for it's age. I'd much prefer to see an event here over the Fox since it's more "upscale" as theaters go. read more

I'm not even 100% sure this is the place I went. I hope it is because I'd like the place I went to get a good review. They welcomed with open arms, smiles and cups, when asked, for the 6 miniature bottles of red wine I put in my jacket. They didn't know it was for smuggled wine but the smile on the barmaids face tells me even if she knew, she wouldn't care. I nearly gave 4 stars because I like my movie going experience to be coupled with the rush of trying to smuggle in alcohol. The ticket collector looked like he couldn't care less. I was going to be bold and ask if he'd like to share a drink but thought better of it. The movie itself was awful, don't go see La La land... It's a bunch of horse shit, but thats on me. read more

This is a great place to watch a show! The sound is good, the place is clean, the wait staff will walk around taking orders so you don't have to lose your sweet spot on the floor, it's really great! Also, the bathroom was CLEAN! Which, lets face it ladies, almost never happens at a concert venue. So yes, I was very pleased. Of course it helped that I was there to see the Old 97's and Rhett Miller is amazing. But even if the band weren't so great, I think the venue is still up there as one of my favorites in CO. I love going to Boulder Theater for shows...as a venue it almost perfect. It has several slightly raised levels in front of the stage so there are great sightlines to the band and the acoustics are tremendous. Because of the multiple levels it's easy to get in and out of the crowd to get drinks (unlike the Fillmore in Denver). Drink prices are VERY reasonable for a music venue. They bring in a wide variety of musical acts...this place is a win!! read more

Another great venue with the bar at the back where you still get good views of the band playing. They had Guinness in a can for $5 and they actually gave you a real pint glass. I was standing up front for most of the concert and to be honest I am so used to just throwing down a plastic cup, it was a bit of a hassle to find a safe place to put my empty glass! Many people were putting their empties up on stage and while this was fine for a Saw Doctors show, I could imagine an issue with anything more hardcore. The railings separating the tiers are not like the ones at say the Bluebird or Ogden where you can set down your drink. No biggie tho :o) One girl close by dropped her glass while dancing and the staff were quick to come out and sweep it up. The bar staff were very attentive. The decor looked to be recently renovated and the toilets were ample and clean. Oh and theres plenty of free parking at night within a few blocks walking distance! read more

While the venue claims to be ADA compliant, nothing could be further from the truth. They have no compliant access to seats, they do not have required dispersed seating, or seating in all ticket levels. They require wheelchair users to contact them for seating, but when I contacted them, because I use a speech generating device, they hung up on me, so I couldnt talk to them. The CEO refused to meet with us when we were denied access to the seats we purchased. They refused a cash refund. The Americans with Disabilites Act was passed over 28 years ago, yet the Boulder Theater ignores their obligations and discriminates against disabled individuals. Department of Justice regulations are clear about seating requirements and ticket sales. The DOJ states "Venues and third-party sellers must provide the same information about accessible seats as provided about non-accessible seats, using the same text and visual representations. Typically information about location, price, view, and seat availability is provided. Accessible seats must be described in enough detail to permit the purchaser to determine if a seat meets his or her needs. If a venue has detailed maps or displays of seating configurations on its website or if it provides seating information in its pamphlets or brochures, including information for particular events or shows, it must include information on accessible seating in the same detail as is provided on non-accessible seating," This venue violates the civil rights of people with disabilities. By giving them business, you are supporting discrimination. read more

The Boulder Theater is a decent venue and moreover, an excellent place to watch the Big Lebowski, which seems to happen every other month. (If you wear a bathrobe you get a free white Russian) And this is why I go to the Boulder Theater. In fact, it is a pretty swell venue. The kids are out for fun (so are the hippies) and the college radio ratio to civilian is extra high and...so are you. What a sweetly decorated Russian interior, you are sure to float away into happiness from sweet audio pings and white Russian swings. read more

Saw a comedy show. Started half hour late, waiting until everyone had purchased something from the bar out of boredom. Sound was great, comedians were hilarious, that's all. Seating was HORRIFIC! Tiny hard cheap hotel conference chairs packed in like sardines - truly in pain by the end of the show! There was no way, no matter what size you were, to not have been physically glued to the people next to you. Air worked for about 10 minutes. Tier seating meant that only front row on any level could see the stage. Will not return for any seated show, but good dance place. read more

We went to see Henry Rollins... The show was AMAZING!!! The theater is not. The seats are too small and sat too closely together. We were uncomfortable the enitre time. I was practically crying because i was in so much back pain by the time the show was over. Also, the staff is all rude and super hipster-ee. Gross. read more

This place is small and intimate, so its a pretty awesome place to see concerts! The only downside is the masses amounts of underagers for most shows, and sometimes the employees can be rude. I think my experiences have varied from show to show. That's why I'm giving it an A-OK, not an awesome. read more

This place is sick! I had so much fun seeing a lot of my favorite bands. Their prices don't suck! Super fun venue!

The theatre was beautiful, and the show was great. I was also impressed with the acoustics in the building but very disappointed with the staff. I am a New Yorker, first time visitor, and am 21+. The tickets were pricey to begin with but they have some stamp system upon entry, for re-entry. In the mix of the crowd they neglected to stamp my arm upon my initial entrance, so when I tried to re enter the building ten minutes later they denied me and tried to make me buy another ticket. I had my 21+ wristband and my ticket in my hand, along with the fact they saw me 10 minutes earlier and the FOUR door staff members, of which NONE remembered me, still made me stand there and plead for 20+ min to get back into the show, for lack of said "stamp". Moral of the story, great theatre, great show, staff is either too high to do job correct or like getting paid 2x per spectator. read more

Sad, yes very sad. Have gone to theater for years and have enjoyed the talent and enthusiasm of the cast. This last time watching Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dream Coat was nothing short of disappointing! Great talent as always, however I thought I was watching old costumes from the risqué show Chicago. If you didn't already know the story you would be totally lost. Whoever came up with this interpretation of Joseph needs to have their artistic license revoked! read more

In May 2015 the Sociology Department at the University of Colorado was forced to find a new location for their graduation ceremony due to rainy weather. With no on campus locations available and only 72 hours till the scheduled event, Jake and the team at Boulder Theater made it happen in an amazing fashion. The entire staff at Boulder Theater were accommodating, supportive, and professional from the beginning to the end. The setting is unique and welcoming with balcony seating or even a balcony bar if your event warrants such an offering. The theater vibe gives an air of gradeur and playful performance to celebratory events. This venue was our best ever, garnering high praise from students (who loved to receive their accolades on the stage where they doubtless have seen numerous concerts and events), to parents and family who appreciated teh warm, comfortable setting and faculty who enjoyed the ease of the Theater team setting up and cleaning up. In the past we have used amateur sound system set up and rentals with feedback and poor quality abounding, but Boulder Theater insured the highest quality sound such that everyone in the theater could hear everything, and despite varying degrees of faculty aptitude with microphones, no feedback or sound issues this go around. The price was reasonable, the team outstanding, and the setting wonderful. I highly recommend the Boulder Theater for any event that requires such a space. read more

We had our wedding reception at the Boulder Theater. The rates were extremely reasonable, especially compared to other options in town. The staff was great to work with and our guests had a great time! There are so many options with decorating the spacious room, but you don't really need a whole lot with the beautiful paint in the venue. We had a live band and a DJ, and we were able to bring in any caterer that we chose. Great service and a wonderful time, all around! read more

This is a beautiful venue with an awesome layout but I will admit that my night was ruined because of some of the staff! Very very unprofessional staff!! I went and saw a comedy show here last week and was told by a bartender that I was laughing too loud. I couldn't believe it! I told him that I was at a Comedy Show and typically people laugh at these types of things. So naturally, this made me want to laugh louder. It wasn't so much the fact that he told me to stop laughing so loud but it was the way he told me to do it while using profanity. Naturally, I was upset so the next two times I ordered a drink, I purposely didn't leave him a tip. Why tip someone who cursed at you for laughing at a Comdey Show? Well I just checked my Bank Account Statement and it appears that he added tips on my card anyway. I'm also a bartender and have heard of people doing this (very rarely might I add since this is ILLEGAL) but this just added insult to injury. Still had a good time up until this point of the show but be careful using your card here!! Some of these people are straight crooks!! read more

The music sounded GREAT, and it was nice to have a bar right in the theater, but it would have been nice if I could have SEEN the performers. I flew from Salt Lake City to stare at the back of peoples' heads. NOT COOL. The way they place the seats, they're not staggered (that would have helped) and although I wasn't very far back, there were five rows in front of me AT THE SAME LEVEL - no slope at all. So the people in the first row of our section had a great view, and those of us in the rows behind saw the people in front of us. I spent the whole concert moving my head from side-to-side to catch a glimpse of the performers. Unless they change this AWFUL seating arrangement, I'll NEVER ATTEND another concert at Boulder Theater. read more

Visited Boulder Theater for the first time to see Second City. Amazing show and a fantastic atmosphere! The staff was very nice - exactly what I expect in Colorado - and the other patrons were equally fun and engaging. The two might seem unrelated, but in my experience, a happy staff creates a great environment. Staff care and attitude matter! Boulder Theater nails it. We had drinks and food in one of the many bars in the theater. Nice wine list. The charcuterie- The Misto - we ordered was fantastic. (I'm now loving figs!) The only disappointment I had was this: Food is allowed in the theater, but only on paper plates and there are no tables. It's a small thing, and staff was very polite and helpful in asking us to not bring our slate into the theater, but I wish I'd anticipated that (or that the barkeep had). Next time I'll arrive earlier if I plan to grab a bite on location. Overall, a really great experience. Allow 30 minutes to eat and drink pre-show, and you'll have a five-star experience :-). read more

The venue is beautiful. The sound engineers are on point. Unfortunately seeing Tab Benoit is a scene out of footloose. There is a strict no dancing policy. I was approached by security three times for dancing. I recommend going to a different venue for a show if you want to dance and enjoy the music. If sitting in a seat with a statuesque/ emotionless stature is your style then the boulder theater is for you. If antique roadshow is your idea of a good time then head on down to the boulder theater where dancing is not allowed. I have found where the music has died. read more

A Boulder institution, this is one cool, classic theater that hosts a variety of shows, movies, and various other events. Although the place is a bit dated and worn, the photography hanging from the walls tells a tale of many great performances that have graced this place. Most recently I saw G.Love and Special Sauce, as well as The Big Lebowski. Typically the Big Lebowski has a very fun crowd of revelers in bath robes drinking caucasians. Unfortunately this time around it was raining outside and dampened the spirits of the majority of attendants. The show was still a riot, and watching from the mezzanine was relaxing and enjoyable. All the while enjoying a good number of caucasians. As for the music shows, accessibility to the stage is pretty good for most acts, and even if you show up a little later, you can still get relatively close for a quality experience. I prefer meeting up with friends before the show at Georges, which has great food and libations, as well as a direct entrance to the Theater. This in itself has kept me from waiting in any lines outside the Theater. read more

We went to a see Patty Griffin the other night and were very disappointed in our seats. What appears to be a good seat in the seating chart can be horrible because of the stepped floors. If you get a seat at the back of any step, you will not be able to see the stage through the people in the rows in front of you. The show was good and the sound was good but the seats were horrible with our heads against a metal pipe and our knees solidly into the seat in front of us. Staff was sympathetic but offered NO HELP. read more

I like the Boulder Theater. We don't have much choice here and need to be thankful for what we can get. That said, their service charges are fucking ridiculous. $15 to 'cover box office operations'? You've got to be fucking kidding me. If that is really what it costs to run a box office, close your goddamn box office and go to online only sales and save me the $15 plus a $2 'delivery charge' if I want to print my own tickets, which ought to save you time and money? read more

The venue is great. We saw Greg Allman there and Devotchka over Halloween. It's a great atmosphere for a show. Attached to the Boulder Theater is a restaurant called The Ghost BBQ. We were hungry towards the middle of the show and went there and had some awesome ribs, pulled pork sandwich, and mac & cheese that was insanely good. The restaurant was a really nice quiet escape from the booming concert next door. The bartenders are awesome at the Boulder Theater and it's easy to get a drink. The theater itself is really nice with cool murals. Enjoy the food and music! Looking forward to our next show there. read more
