Steve and Rob approach every project with a genuine enthusiasm that makes every encounter a delight, and their combined technical expertise and attention to detail enhance the final product in the most beautiful ways. As a student many, many years ago, I almost dreaded finishing a drawing or painting because I found the process of matting and framing so tedious; now I look forward to spending time with Rob and Steve (and trusty office assistants Rafi and Amigo) because they make the process so much fun. Whether it's a humble poster or a priceless oil painting, your art will get the generous attention and close-reading it deserves, and you'll love it even more than you did before.

In a follow up email, I expressed my surprise at their indifference to the many pieces I needed framed; their further response was exceptionally rude and dismissive. I wonder if I would've been treated with a modicum of respect had I been a man. Will never grace them with my business.

Anyhow, Smith-Klein is a fav place to ogle art on the Pearl Street Mall. The collections frequently change and are always of the highest quality. There are some great metal rabbit sculptures in the front of the store these days that I'd love to take home with me. I've seldom purchased original art, but the prices seem reasonable to me. I hope they get the sculpture back from the kleptomaniac family. Weirdos.

The also have an annex for maker space and events a few doors further west. Today they had a fundraiser and art display in honor and celebration of International Women's Day. When I saw the announcement that the Handweaver's Guild of Boulder would be in the Annex demonstrating the weaving process and set up for patrons of all ages but especially children to try it out, I knew I had to go. In my younger years, I had been a member of this Guild and had done a demonstration with a group of weavers at the Denver Stock Show in 1975. I was hoping to hear what the Guild is doing now and hopefully run into someone from that era that is still active. And indeed I did. It's amazing work they do and the Gallery in the main building displays weaving as well as so many other arts. Paintings, drawings, jewelry, pottery, fabric designs, handmade cards, all sorts of art objects are to be seen and purchased . It's a very nice space and was very well attended on this holiday on a beautiful spring day. But nice stop in to the gallery anytime and look into the programs they run in the Annex. It's easy to find and there is street parking in the area and a bus stop 2 blocks away. And eateries in the area too.

Otherwise, my review remains the same. :-) This is a Southwest Native American art store that carries pottery, jewelry and paintings. They also have a great selection of Zuni fetishes (stone animal carvings). All of the fetishes and about 80% of the jewelry are of Zuni pueblo origin, but other tribes/pueblos represented include Navajo, Hopi, Acoma, Mata Ortiz, Santa Clara and Jemez. The pottery is the most diverse. Although most of the pieces there are a little pricey, you can find fetishes for under $50, jewelry with natural stones and excellent craftsmanship for under $75 and pottery for under $150. All of the pieces are bought directly from the native artists but this is not a fair trade store.
