The new building dates to the 1870s and was originally a saloon and dance hall. It is also twice the size of the Indian Hills Trading Post. This gallery has a solid library of contemporary artists, not just from Colorado, but from across the U.S. and internationally. About 40 artists are regularly exhibited, showing mainly paintings and sculpture. All of the work is of very high quality. The historic building provides an excellent background with an expansive main floor and an intimate basement with original stone walls. This is also a fine event venue. Steve Sonnen, the owner, is an art consultant with extensive experience in the design of art-centric spaces using work from the gallery or custom commissions. Mirada Fine Art is one of the highlights of the Denver art scene.

What ensued was not only a friendly but an inquisitive dialogue in which he encouraged me to show him pictures of my space, the colors I was working with and what might be competing artists that I have currently in my place. He then did something that no other dealer has done....he encouraged me to contact the artist as well to see if there was something that had not yet made it to his gallery that would be better suited. In the end, the gallery had the piece that has made it onto my walls and I could not be more pleased with the professionalism and courtesy afforded an out of towner like myself. In the chaos of my move from Denver to San Francisco last fall, I lost the hologram (a separate piece with adhesive) for my 2013 Telluride Bluegrass Festival poster. I emailed William Matthews Studio to see if I could buy that part alone, and they promptly replied and said they'd mail me a new one -- which they did, free of charge. I feel like stuff like this doesn't happen much anymore, so I just wanted to give them a happy Yelp shout-out -- THANK YOU!! -- and encourage people to give these lovely people some business. I was so inspired by the intense energy and enthusiasm of the members. After going months without creative contact, it was refreshing to be around other artists and be able to talk about art without any shame or pretense! The facility itself is very clean and well-maintained. There is ample gallery space with plenty of opportunities for artist members and volunteers to showcase their work. The website is also very comprehensive and makes it very easy to look up upcoming opportunities, past successes, and current work and contact information of the artists it supports. Kudos to 40 West Arts for taking the plunge and creating a safe space for artists in the community!

I've been coming to 40 west for years and been an artist through them for 2 years, I had also talked to them previously about the bully and my fear and thought they would stand with me. They took a little while to respond and said they would look into it. When I filed the lawsuit against the bully, I sent on the cover sheet and said I would be happy to provide any evidence or answer any questions. I had been clear about needing a deadline of 9/30, I though a month and half to hear anything was more than reasonable, but they just ghosted me. So now I had to file a lawsuit against them to try and be treated equitably and so I can feel safe moving forward. having to do that, when I'm already dealing with someone who is unhinged is crap.

That will soon change when the original building becomes a Creative Campus for studios and the Astor House contains the galleries, a meeting room, reading center/library, refreshment kiosk and administrative offices. Targeted for March/April '24, both FAC buildings will be a major improvement and offer everything from classes and meetings to an increased outdoor patio and even a Short Edition dispenser for free English/Spanish phone-based stories, poetry and cartoons for both adults and kids to take with you!
