Foothills Art Center is like a really small town- it's cute to visit, but you most likely won't stay very long or buy anything while you're there, at least if you're under 40. The building is gorgeous, and protected for its historical significance, and the grounds are very nicely maintained. I love the St. Francis statue in the garden out front. Inside you'll find the usual art-gallery fare- various traveling exhibitions intermingled with static exhibits of local art. Currently, a national printmaking exhibition occupies most of the gallery space. The majority of the work you'll find is tasteful and pretty, but if you're looking for provocative and modern, go further downtown. Foothills stays firmly on the middle ground when it comes to controversial art- no giant clay male organs here. The price is usually a bit out of range for the younger set on larger pieces, but you can usually find some cute handmade jewelry that's reasonable. It's a nice spot to grab a gift for someone whose tastes you're not certain of. There are often handknit items as well, particularly in the winter. Overall, you're not likely to make a purchase at the Foothills Art Center unless you came for a gift for a specific person, but it's a great spot to stop with relatives in town for a few days. The location is super cute, atop a hill in homey old Golden, and everybody can find something to admire. Take the In-Laws and follow it up with a trip to one of Golden's many lunch spots.

4.5 stars. I saw a fabulous show here of contemporary photo/video from China. It was a well put together, impressive show, and what brought me to Golden for the day. The space was interesting, and it would be great to see how it's used for 3-d object shows. It was coolthat their gift shop supported local artists, but I know that I didn't need any glass or ceramics... It's nice that they do that, though; I'm sure many of the objects there would make great gifts. It's worth going here if their exhibition sounds intriguing to you. Based on the China show, you might end up being even more impressed than you'd expect.

A very independent and fun space that knows art. I was expecting something a amateurish, to be honest, but was surprised to find real art connoisseurs. It is part of the SCFD (Scientific and Cultural Foundation of Denver); so expect ART! Oct 2018- follow them on instagtam. They art hosting a handblown glass ORB HUNT. Get outta Denver and check out Golden for a day!

We love coming to FAC for fun events. Great art and great people!

Be prepared to pay an entry fee. Wasn't in their website. And there was one exhibition. Not worth it.

This neighborhood art center is a charmer! Enjoy free exhibits (which I love) and an outstanding gift shop.

Hit up the Women's Bean Project and fulfill all three ideals at the same time. My only regret is that I didn't start shopping here eons ago. My guess is the end-of-year holidays is the busiest time for them, based on the flurry of activity I saw in the warehouse when I stopped by last week, although you can support them year round by shopping online or at King Soopers. You can get edibles like cornbread and brownie mix, salsa and other dip mixes (garlic, dill), exotic flavored instant teas, their signature soup packets, coffee beans, chocolate-dipped espresso beans, jelly beans, gift sets, and a lot more I can't remember right now! They also sell tempting handmade jewelry as well. As someone who (in a past life) used to make a lot of jewelry by hand, I can tell you they are high quality and well-made. Women's Bean is based in an old firehouse on Curtis street, which is super interesting to look at. Production happens downstairs, with the 'showroom' and shopping upstairs. You'll likely see people assembling gift baskets and making jewelry. So, grab a basket, load up, and finish that holiday shopping! P.S. Interested in volunteering? Check out their website and hit them up - they are always looking for help.

The shelter itself is an open concept (minus cats who must be separated) and I think that's pretty neat. You get to see the cats in an environment they're used to and they become comfortable/social with humans. You can also check out their personality and see if they fit well with you. The staff working here are kind/you can tell they enjoy what they do! They answer questions and walk you through the very easy adoption process. In comparison to other places, I noticed the adoption fee was about 100$ less, so that is cool. I adopted Spud - also known as " The profesor" ( the name they gave him) last February and he has become a lovely addition to my pet family. He came with a bag of the food they were feeding him, a blanket and some coupons. It took him some time to adjust, I suspect he might've been feral prior to coming to CCS (His left ear is clipped- which I think is TNR program?) but once he did he is the best companion. He also gets along with my senior cat well. The cats here are socialized, sweet and there's tons to check out. Someone for anyone - if you're looking/ready to take that step. I recommend!

Before heading out onto the walkway, there's a large tent with food and a space where you can watch a short video explaining the sanctuary's mission and the work they do. I appreciated having that background because it made the whole experience feel more meaningful once we were out there. It was also nice that you can grab food and bring it out with you. Obviously you cannot feed the animals, but you can enjoy your own food and bring a water bottle while you walk. I grabbed a slice of pizza on the way out and appreciated that flexibility. The volunteers were genuinely kind and clearly passionate about being there. The facility itself is huge, you walk along a long elevated walkway that stretches over the habitats, which gives you a really unique vantage point. We had beautiful weather and great visibility, so we were lucky to see a lot. Some animals were lounging, some sleeping, and others were playing around. I liked how each enclosure felt thoughtfully set up and spacious, you could tell they are trying to give the animals an environment that suits them. If you are an animal lover, it is absolutely worth checking out. I do think it can feel a little expensive without a membership, but when you see the scale of the property and understand the work they are doing, it makes more sense. Overall, it was a really special way to spend the day.

The walk was breezy with a slight chill, but the day was lovely otherwise. Always a positive experience.
