While it is industrial space it was cozy and just the right size for our group of ~120. We live in Seattle so planning an event remotely can be challenging, but Rebecca made it very easy for us with her excellent communication and great recommendations for party rentals and bartenders. Day of the event we were able to gain access to the space with plenty of time to set up and be prepared for our guest. We had a Studio staff member on site during our event for any support we needed - she was great! Plenty of parking for guest and a quick Uber (10 min from our hotel). I highly recommend The Studio for an event. We would definitely consider it for another party.

We also used candles in hurricane containers which I also recommend as it gave the event a bit of magic. One thing to keep in mind is that if you are doing a week day event, you cannot get in to do decorating until 4:30p since this is a place of work. It did make our start time of 6p a little tight. We had the event catered but used disposable/compostable products. The kitchen area is open and perfect for a buffet. We also arranged for a Sweet Cow ice cream truck to come for dessert, which was a big hit and fun way to end the evening. I would do another party there given the chance.

I surprised my lady friend by leaving the sports bar we were at (and not finishing the football games we were watching... painful, but it was worth it) and walking one block over to Posh for a night of drinking and painting. She LOVED it, and we both had a blast drinking wine and attempting to paint the Telluride Valley. We got there a bit early and were the first ones in, we picked our seats and then the owner, Chelsey, got us our paint and offered us a drink. The beer and wine by the glass is only $3.25 which is great, or you can buy a bottle of wine for $13, we opted for the bottle. People started trickling in and the actual instruction started a little bit later than the posted time. Chelsey is great, she makes it easy to follow along, she plays music and dances around her studio while she's waiting for the students to catch up to her and she will help you achieve your vision of how your painting should look. The way it works is she goes step by step, explains how to do each step as simply as possible and then gives you time to complete that step. The outcome is that everyone is having a great time, each person has a similar but very unique painting and at the end of all of it you have an awesome, out of the ordinary night out on the town and a nice canvass painting to bring home. 3 1/2 stars. For our first visit at PoshSplat, my daughter…read moreand I went for "independent studio time" since they did not have any public class during the day on a Friday. We've been to other studios to paint following an instructor, and it was always a lot of fun. This place has a great selection of paintings you can choose from, and then you just copy the one you select, or just do your own. The lady who was in charge of the place that day was friendly, but both my daughter and I very quickly understood that it was better not to change the water where you clean your brushes, or ask for another paper plate (that you use as a palette.) When my daughter asked where she could change her muddy water, she was told that she really did not need to, as the paint should get to the bottom of the pot and the brush would get clean if it stays on the surface. We looked at each other, quite surprised. After a while, I really needed to get some clean water and was told that the lady would do it for me as there is no available sink for the clients. Looking at the paint stains in the bathroom, I doubt this advice is followed by most, but I understand that they want to protect their plumbing and the environment. So after that, since we did not want to bother her, we just painted with brown water (and my daughter never changed hers.) I wonder what happens when an entire class (about 20 people) is asking at some point for fresh water.... I never had that issue at other places, and this was a big surprise and disappointment (that and the fact that you are uncomfortable asking for another paper plate.) I get that they don't want to waste, but you have to keep it reasonable. In the end, we've decided that when we want to paint again, we'll go back to Whimsy in Westminster, where they have a sink in the studio for the clients to use freely, where they give you whatever you need to paint comfortably, and where parking if free and easy. If you want to stay in Boulder though, it's always fun to do one of these session. Drink an extra glass of wine and you won't even bother about rinsing your brushes. Now that's a thought, maybe I should try that next time!

CHAC [Chicano Humanities & Arts Council] is an always-lively choice along your first Friday route…read more The gallery is a great representation of Hispanic artists from the south Santa Fe area but the gallery is not without diversity. On opening night, CHAC is a blur of color and craft. Walls and ceilings come alive with 3 dimensionality. Sculptures pop at you from the walls. There are many tiny, woven, and carefully crafted characters: small people and children, renderings of beloved idols, crosses. It is difficult even to find a place to focus your attention because the atmosphere is so animate. If you are doing the First Friday Artwalk, I highly recommend swinging by CHAC; it is one of the finest. There is always excellent Latin American cuisine---also, red and white wine for a small donation. I made my first gallery purchase at CHACO : )

It is considered an art incubator space and has rotating exhibitions that I believe change every month. The space is 700 ft.² so you'll be able to get through the exhibition pretty quickly. This location does a wonderful job of maintaining the vibrancy of Denvers art community by having a welcoming space access to the public to visit, as well as having opening receptions when new exhibitions arrive. All of the people involved with understudy are incredibly friendly and involved in the arts and culture community. The facilities at Copper Leaf were perfect for both our indoor and outdoor venues. There was ample room with chairs for our group. The lighting and HVAC made for a comfortable setting and the facility was spotless. Finally, there was plenty of parking. Great place for venues!

I know this is a little late, but I had to post a review about the fantastic job Roots did with my…read morehusband's Celebration of Life back in April. My husband passed in January and I contacted them within a few weeks to start making arrangements. They were just making the transition to the new business so there were a few no contact issues, but totally understand given the circumstances. As the event grew closer, I had some facilities concerns and they addressed every single one. Again, starting a new business. I worked with Honey and Spencer on the planning and on the day, Spencer was there the whole time. They were nothing short of spectacular. Spencer was 110% on top of everything and was absolutely critical to the success of our event! The food was exceptional and the bar/ wait staff/servers were a well-oiled machine. The venue itself is a little rustic and rugged looking, but hey - that's why we went with it - it reminded me of my husband and I'd like to think he would've approved. My sincerest thanks to everyone at Roots! It was an awful thing to have to plan and execute, but they were absolutely wonderful in every way.

The NoBo Art Center is part of the NoBo Art District off Broadway in North Boulder. It's a bit hard…read moreto find. If you're going north on Broadway, turn left when you see Wapos Mexican restaurant, then follow the driveway to the south of the restaurant building. Immediately behind Wapos you'll see a low, green building with garage-type business units. The first space is the NoBo Art Center. This facility is used for monthly art exhibits, selected from NoBo Art District member proposals. There is also an active schedule of events including workshops, classes, and performances. The space is available to rent by NoBo members. This is a small, basic space for art exhibition, but it has good, white walls, a decent lighting system, and a reasonably high ceiling. It provides an acceptable gallery for viewing art. I have only made one visit so far, so I can't comment on the quality of the NoBo membership, but the exhibit I saw of Mollie Jackson's work was quite impressive. Some of her pieces were fairly large-scale and the space was able to accommodate them.

It continues to present regular art exhibitions, but also offers all sorts of intimate musical events, fashion, lectures, poetry, book launches, and use as a charming event space. The building dates to the 1890s and has served many functions including a flower shop, a yoga studio, the first location of Denver Free University, and a photography studio. It's conveniently located in the heart of the Uptown neighborhood. Parking can be a little tricky, but there is usually a spot to find within a block or two and if you've got parking karma--right in front. I'd call the art that Leon presents eclectic. Some of it I like, some I hate, but it's always thought-provoking and occasionally inspiring. Leon tries to find emerging and underrepresented artists, but also provides a space for established artists to experiment in a way that's difficult at more commercial galleries. Leon's motto is, "Outliers Change the World," and long-time director, Eric Nord, strives to do that. Leon is an interesting part of the Denver arts scene and is worth many visits.

The brick walls are an idyllic backdrop for the different works of art rotating through. While it's slated as a venue for emerging artists, some are already well on their way. This venue has a great location, brings in quality local works of art, and will make for a fun evening out.

Live music is a nice touch...except when it blows. As a gallery however, this place was pretty cool: it had an old hardwood feel with old west style paintings, except with modern themes. I even saw a random Buddha or two just to throw me off. They also were serving some decent wine for free, had a nice upstairs, and also had some affordable stuff. Thus, once they have better taste in who they invite to play, I will up their star rating.
