First time here for a concert. Conveniently located just off Pearl Street, there are lots of options for both parking (garage/street), as well as restaurants/bars nearby. An older theater, this place is in good shape. Easy getting through security and in the door, there are good selections at the main bar, as well as the lounge there too. Also, compared to other venues, beers for ~$10 each seemed like a reasonable value. The venue itself isn't huge. We didn't realize seats weren't permanent. They're practically on top of each other, and there isn't much legroom. Luckily, we were on the aisle, so it wasn't that big of a deal, although having to leave the row so others could get in was a bit of a pain. read more

The Boulder Theater is absolutely lovely. The staff are friendly and welcoming. It was so easy to get inside. And another awesome factor, we parked for free in a free parking garage nearby. Like a free parking garage is unheard of nowadays, and I love that Boulder offers one. We were lucky enough to snag great seats in the balcony for prime viewing of the stage. The sound and lighting were on point and the bars were easily accessible. I, especially, loved how the seats moved and, in a sense, "reclined" so I didn't have to sit up super straight. However, they could've been padded a little more as I was getting a bit sore. All in all, I loved this place and would be glad to see a concert here again! read more

Love this venue and so easy to get to with lots of places to have a bite to eat before a show. BT is a smaller venue compared to many, but they have so many good shows there. It's hard not to find something that piques your interest. We arrived at BT to see Paula Poundstone and it's hard not to have a good seat, even the ones in the back offer a great view. Cool art deco theater to catch a concert. Street Parking was relatively easy as we got there a couple hours before the show and grabbed food at the adjoining Lounge. It worked out great because they check you in then and there so when the doors open to the show you can go straight in through the lounges back door straight into the theater. Most views were good as it isn't a huge theater. We were in row 26 which ended up being the last row and below the upper orchestra. The last 4-5 rows are at the same level, something to keep in mind because unless you are standing (we stood on our chairs as we were the back row) you will have a hard time seeing. There was a bar and some lounge seating upstairs as well as bars downstairs. read more

I'm so bummed that I'd never been to this venue for an event before last night! It's historic and beautiful inside. A very vintage feel. We heard a band that my husband has been following for decades and what a terrific concert it was! Acoustics were perfect. The crowd was lively and fun. I loved the atmosphere. There are a couple bars inside where we had some beverages to enjoy while we listened and danced along to the music. Bartenders were very friendly and pleasant to talk to. Upstairs has an area behind the assigned seating in the balcony, with comfortable couches and chairs. So cool! We had GA tickets so we stood in the back on the lower level, but there are elevated areas behind the seating so you can still see the stage while standing. We didn't have assigned seating so I can't speak to the level of comfort of the chairs, but I read other reviews that reported they are very much NOT comfortable. We sure didn't mind standing because that's what you're supposed to do at a concert, right? Bottom line is, I will be looking for shows here going forward, with intention, so I can come back to this charming space right next to the awesome Pearl Street in Boulder. read more

Great time seeing Rachel Maddow last night. Great venue with a full bar- although they did not have ingredients to make a Bloody Mary-shameful. I could hear and see the stage. There is food at a shop next door. I enjoyed a tasty margarita. The temperature was good and the bathrooms were clean. There was wheelchair access and places for people with disabilities to sit and enjoy the show. Get some Bloody Mary mix and I will be back soon!! read more

Super cool venue in the heart of Boulder, just off Pearl Street. The place is intimate enough that the seats are never too far from the stage, still there is plenty of room to feel a great energy during a concert. You have to check out their website and see what's going on as they host concerts, films, conferences and much more. There is a bar in the lobby, and plenty of restaurants in the area. Parking is not a problem with public garages nearby. And the art deco façade is impressive! read more

Yesterday I went to Boulder Theater and they have a new sound system in and it was amazing. The place was packed to see Yheti and everyone there from bar staff to security were working incredibly hard to give everyone a safe fun time. My drinks are always on point and I usually don't have to wait very long. I highly recommend seeing a show here! read more

I've always been a fan of old-school theaters. Boulder Theater fits the bill. Located right off Pearl Street, I passed by the theater as I was exploring the area. While I didn't go inside or experience a show, it is a sight from the outdoors. I hear they often show the Big Lebowski . . . that's a winner in my book! read more

The box office was so friendly kind and heated room to pick up tickets great for the colder night. The security workers are always very pleasant and helpful and quick all while feeling safe still. You are welcomed into a building that has seen history with beautiful architecture and the photographic evidence on the walls signed by many of the amazing artists that have come through. There isn't a bad seat in the house at all each with an excellent view. I've never had an issue getting a great drink here from the hardworking bar staff. The mens room usually has spare facilities but the urinals are a little close together for a taller man like myself this is probably due to it being an older building. This place brings in some amazing talent from all over for both music and comedy and I always look forward to going with family and friends to this rocking venue ! I came here last night for the first time to see Nahko and Medicine for the People. This cute little theatre was so awesome. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the bartenders were so nice! The sound guys really knew their shit too. You could be outside and still hear the music perfectly. I've been to so many venues in my life where the sound guys don't know what they're doing and you can't hear the band unless you're up close. Definitely not the case here. I also thought it was cool the staff would pass out waters to the people getting really into it down in the hippy pit. read more

This is the absolute worst venue I have ever tried to see a movie in. They pack in cheap, narrow seats that are less comfortable and more crowded than an airplane. These are not theater seats, just padded chairs that you would normally see in a conference center for a class. The seats are not even raised in the back so you cannot see the screen. Total waste of money. We walked out before the movie (Clerks 3) even started. I don't understand how the volume of people and limited space between the rows is even allowed. The fire marshal should check into this. DO NOT SEE A MOVIE HERE!!! read more

While I appreciate the marquee sign and the charm of the architecture, the actual theater experience was nothing to really speak of overall. The ventilation in the theater is poor. The theater is small, which is fine, but by the end of the evening, everyone was hot and uncomfortable. Also, the seating could be improved. Again, yes, it's a small space, but the chairs could be of better quality. The show itself was fantastic! Just please, please, please....try to improve air flow. read more

I went here on Sataurday and the venue is super cool. They got us in there very quickly with a temperature check and escorted us to our seated area. The reason for 4 stars is that the waitress was very rude to us and we noticed that she was rude to other groups as well. The drinks were very cheap and they weren't serving tacos like advertised so that was a bit of a letdown. You can find street parking around there as well! read more

I have been to some of my favorite events and concerts at Boulder theater! The staff has always been so kind and easy to converse with! It's a smaller venue but that's what makes it fun - easy to connect with other audience members and the main event. It's mid October, and fall is in full force, the temperature dropped to the low 20's towards the end of the week. A continuous icy mist fell for most of the day. Dim and gray a perfect day for a show at the boulder theater. Located just off the pearl street mall, just a brisk walk away from countless food and bar options. Nice. 5/5 Several free and paid parking options. I parked a couple blocks away near a restaurant I pre-gamed it at. Easy. 5/5 The theater itself is small and there is not a bad seat in the house. There is a bar down stairs that you can get beer, spirits, or a soft drink at although they do have a per person drink limit. The sound resonates beautifully throughout the venue and creates the perfect environment for an intimate up close and personal concert. 5/5 I would def, come back here for another show. read more

Nothing transports me the way music does so most experiences at music venues for me is pretty magical unless the sound system sucks really bad. I barely know the difference between a good one and a bad one. I just know I saw Phantogram once in Denver and the music was too loud and bad sounding that my ears hurt. My experience at Boulder Theater was not like that. This is a cool unique venue with a very wide open space. The different levels aren't as steep as the levels at Ogden and Gothic in Denver, which is a disadvantage for short folk like myself who hope to get a better view by standing on a higher level. I saw Miguel here and had a great time. Despite being at the far left edge of the space, I was able to completely see the stage. I recall there being only one bar (correct me if I am wrong). The lobby space is big and the women's bathroom is awkwardly shaped with the door inconveniencing the entrance. I didn't have trouble finding street parking. read more

Such a wonderful venue, great acoustics, nice and intimate. Bartenders are awesome, and hosted acts are always superb.

This is a beautiful old and well maintained Art Deco style theater. During a recent show we noticed that the carpet had just been replaced and you could smell the new carpet smell. The paint on the walls and ceiling looked liked it had been freshened up as well and I think the fabric on the balcony seats was new. It's always heartwarming to see a historic building receiving proper care. I think this is the perfect sized venue and the acoustics are great no matter if you're up in the balcony or down on the floor. Although there aren't any bathrooms upstairs, there is a second bar tucked away in a separate room but it won't be open if the show is not sold out. The bartenders are friendly and fun and the downstairs bar is large enough for a non-capacity crowd. All in all, it's a fantastic place to see your favorite band. If you want to get in ahead of the line at the door, head over to George's Food & Drink for a cocktail and your wrist band. Also, you can park for free at the RTD garage at 14th and Walnut and it's a short walk to the theater from there. Enjoy the show! read more

The Boulder Theater is an institution. I have seen occasional shows there for many years. I don't go frequently and most of the shows I see are for "all ages" which is only one portion of its reputation. There is a good vibe to this historic venue. However, sometimes the place has not been as clean as I would prefer. There is less drinking and spilling at the all ages shows, but still, I have had an incident where a large beer was spilled by a patron in the row behind me, onto my coat (white wool) which I could then not even wear home in cold weather. The cleaning cost was substantial too. There was no coat check available at the event. So now I am more cautious about what I wear there. Also, the latest change I noticed is to have rather grubby trash and recycling containers placed in the seating aisles. Probably a necessity but it does detract. There was a very dirty one right in front of our seats. That being said, the sound quality is good. The old wood gives a mellow sound and casual atmosphere. People attending events are always having a good time, including us. The bar has its pros and cons, as mentioned. Sometimes the parking can be tough, and in the winter, when I usually go, walking a distance can be icy. But that is true of everything in downtown Boulder. This show was on a Sunday night so it was easier than usual on logistics. We will always be willing to attend events here, and this place will always be a popular venue. read more

Thank you, Boulder Theater for finally including your "service charges" in the price of the ticket so that what you see is what you get. Thank you, Boulder Theater for pouring cocktails in a glass and giving me a beer in a pint glass and not a plastic cup. Thank you, Boulder Theater for opening George's restaurant next door so that patrons have an option of getting some real food between the opener and headliner without going outside. The Boulder Theater holds a special place in my heart, as it is the site of many special moments in my life.... but beyond that, it is a fantastic unique venue with an eclectic calendar of movies, events and music. I've been here for e-town shows (which will soon be moving to their own venue - boo), the best NYE show ever with Sam Bush and Bela Fleck (where Sammy got unceremoniously unplugged at curfew and swears to never come back - boo), many Little Feat shows (including sound check), Todd Rundgren (which was filmed in HD for later dvd release, I hope?), and last night, my boyfriend's band. The theater itself was lovingly restored with art deco murals on the walls and ceiling, and the sound is fantastic. Most shows are general admission with some tables/chairs on the various levels (cabaret style seating) which are removed for bigger crowds. There are theater type seats in the balcony, which is sometimes closed for smaller shows. For the e-town shows, and for a ticketed seating event with Ira Glass a few years ago, they jam packed rows and rows of chairs all the way to the stage. It can have that help-I'm-in-a-can-of-sardines feeling. There is a full bar with a good beer selection, both on the main level plopped right into the center of the rear of the room and on the mezzanine (that bar is not always open) and the bartenders have a relatively heavy pour on the cocktails. One complaint is that the bartenders do appear to neglect one side or another of the bar at times. Last night, at a half-full show, all three bartenders were on the stage right side of the bar for an extended period of time, resulting in patrons either waiting for a long time on stage left side, or even walking around the bar to get some service. Staff works hard at keeping the empty glasses cleared and maintaining some order in the room, but never seem overbearing to me. The folks in the box office next door have always seemed very friendly and helpful, whether its purchasing tickets for a future show or trying to confirm guest list status. Parking is pretty plentiful in the area, despite the proximity to the hubbub of the Pearl Street Mall. Street and paid garage options abound. read more

Last Friday was my first time visiting the Boulder Theater. I joined the ski bum community and attended Warren MIller's 'Face of Winter". Honestly, I don't think there could have been a better backdrop other than the Boulder Theater. The theater itself is historic and beautiful. The acoustics were sensational and the overall viewing experience was great. The Boulder Theater has a lower level which was packed with vendors giving away free ski swag and prizes. I have to admit, the vendors were a little overwhelming. The vendors were lined up just passed the entrance. It was hard to get through the doors, muscle your way through the crowd and into the theater. Once I managed to squeeze past the swag vendors and the ski bum entourage, I entered the lower level of the theater. I was immediately greeted by a large, round, wooden bar which had so much character, I would have to guess it was the original. It was a balmy 25 degrees out, so I ordered a hot toddy. The toddy was warm and soothing, with a harsh bite from the whiskey. We opted to sit on the upper balcony. The seats were a little cramped, but they reclined slightly for optimum comfort and viewing pleasure. The upper balcony was also equipped with a separate bar, therefore I would be able to avoid the crowd getting to the lower level bar. Some 4'5" girl threw me out because I had a bloody nose. Wouldn't let me go to the bathroom to look at it. Can you believe that? She said, "Let's go take a look at it." She took me by the arm and started leading me to the lobby where the bathrooms are and instead of going to the bathroom they tossed me out of there. They have problems. Don't go to a metal show here, and don't go into the pit unless you wear a football helmet so the staff doesn't kick you out for getting a scratch on your face. Unbelievable. I've been to metal shows and festivals all over the world with broken bones and blood everywhere and never been kicked out like that. I didn't fight or hurt anyone, didn't hurt the staff, didn't throw anything at the band, didn't break anything, didn't jump onstage or crowd surf. Spent a couple hundred dollars there on food, drinks, and merch, and they threw me out in the middle of the headlining set. Just a small bloody nose in the pit and they kick me out. Is it because it's Boulder? Or is it because the staff is used to coffee house bands and group yoga? Do yourself a favor and stay away from this venue. Save your money read more

This is an excellent theater, mostly street parking, if you have tickets on call, you have to enter a small box office next door to redeem them. At the door, you will get checked for ID, stamped and put on a wrist band if you're 21+. The actual lobby is very small, the bar has a long line, where the doors intersect, so it's a tad bit inconvenient and weird to me. The bartenders were very quick, I didn't plan on drinking at all this night, so I had a normal Sprite drink and sat my happy butt down for the show. It was very entertaining, lots of wonderful skits and stories from the Get Mortified Podcast, which was great. We felt like the seating is a little too crowded, but otherwise a great place to watch a show. read more

I've been to several events at this venue (speaker, concert, bridal show) and it's a pretty good place. It's a typical small theater (i.e. Bluebird, Ogden, Gothic) and has been very well taken care of. It's always very clean, and though it's small you can still make your way through the crowds pretty easily. Bathrooms are okay, the stalls are a little small, but nothing you can't deal with. read more

The aesthetics and sound of the theatre are great and I always love seeing shows here. Went there New Years Eve for a show. The show was fantastic however, the staff was not. No people at the door were friendly - I get it, you have to work on one of the biggest party nights of the year, but at least put on a smile... Next the bar tenders we also unfriendly, no smile, not even a hello when I walked up asking to refill a water bottle. The kicker was I waited at the bar to get a drink for a solid 10 mins. Started talking to the guy waiting ahead of me just to pass the time. When it finally should have been his turn to order a drink the bartender didn't even acknowledge either of us and instead decided to help the pretty girl that literally walked up less than a minute earlier. I love old movie theaters, it says so in my Yelp profile (under "Things I love" - see for yourself). The Boulder Theater fits the bill when it comes to what I look for in a historic cinema house: + Neon marquee out front + Independent flicks, concerts and performances + Alcohol served inside + Ornate decor Boulder's theater is beautiful! Art Deco that's been well-preserved over the years. Might I also note that there's *two* bars? One downstairs and a larger one upstairs for what seems like private parties. So obviously, I really like the Boulder Theater. It's right up my alley. Two minor complaints: 1) The seats are tiny and uncomfortable. Par for the course when you're in an old timey theater. Nothing I can't handle, though if my small-ish frame has trouble fitting in the seats, imagine what a full size adult man experiences here. Eek! 2) Very gruff staff working the door/bar. Not what I would expect from the Boulder community (usually a mellow, granola-ey bunch) or a landmark historic site. Neither of these factors would deter another visit, more of a "just so you know" for first time visitors. Still a really cool place to visit, for locals and tourists alike. read more

What a terrible venue. They have managed to cram 40% more seats into this place than should be allowed. Might make a lot of sense to see a FireMarshall checking into this. It's ridiculously hot because everyone is literally on top of one other. The ONLY reason why we didn't give it 1 star is because the bar/security staff was actually really good. It's not their fault and we continued to tip well and accordingly even after one of the openers tried to "joke" about how the concept of tipping is "ridiculous". Honestly, this place is "ridiculous"....bored and confused to say it nicely. What a giant WASTE of my time. read more
