Had a great time at The Fox a few weeks back to see The Infamous Stringdusters! Loved this venue and it was my first time there. It has a great location, right on the hill so pretty easy to get to. Plenty of street parking around. There's other stores to grab a bite too. The inside is cozy yet spacious. There are benches on each side to sit if you need. The pit area is nice and close to the stage, and I was easily able to grab a spot early. They have a good amount of drink stations and free water. Even got me a anniversary glass!! Acoustics were great for a five member string band. I'll definitely be going back soon to see another performance! read more

We traveled from Iowa to see a band we love play for new years eve. We loved the intimate size of this theater and that there were multiple levels for the audience to be on. And the sound guy did a great job. We had some the most expensive beer we've had at any event, but worked in our favor because we didn't risk having to give up our spot to go to the bathroom or wake up with a hangover. The ballon drop at midnight was a nice touch but we've been to similar larger venues in the past that managed to distribute a complementary champagne toast as well. Overall, great venue and we will keep an eye out for other bands we want to see who might play here. Based on the photos on the walls, they have a great history of booking great acts. read more

Surround sound, easy going views and hand rails for the win. Came to Fox Theatre on Aug. 10th for Corrosion of Conformity and Crowbar, the show was killer! It's an intimate club. Probably maxing out at a couple hundred. Which makes for a great experience. Security does a brief check and you're already through the doors. Merch tables on the left, a bar in front, and the stage straight back. Let's talk about these hand rails. I've never been to a club with a lengthy hand rail in the center of the floor. If you're lucky enough to snag this VIP spot (like I did) your beverage will sit securely fastened while your free hands can praise the rock and roll gods. Additionally, the sides of the floor are raised up, which lots of folks gravitated toward. There's really not a bad spot in the house. And yeah, they let the bands get loud. Real loud. Fox Theatre has an endearing divey charm. It takes a back seat in order for the bands to shine, which is really all you can ask for at a venue. \m/ read more

I was here last night to watch my son perform with his band for the first time, and I've never been to a worse venue in my 56 years on this planet. I was handed a drink with a hair in it, the place reeked of something awful, and the staff were INCREDIBLY rude. Definitely won't be coming back. read more

Do not recommend this venue if you are going with only women. I attended this venue to see a Kpop concert with my teenage sister tonight. There were drug addicts all around the area, which isn't the venue's fault. But what is in their control is having security outside the venue to keep the guests who are coming to your place safe. Considering this was a Kpop concert most of the attendees were young women. There was one specific man who was on meth who kept walking up and down the street talking to the women standing in front of this venue, including me and my sister, making everyone very uncomfortable. The volunteers who were outside with us the whole time were also young women, so no one who was able to stop this guy. He didn't speak to anyone when there were men outside might I add. There were multiple security guards showing up for their shift during this entire time and coming outside of the venue to pick up food they ordered but not one person stayed outside to ensure the safety of these young women attending this concert. when they were finally "notified" to send security out this man had been playing with a pocket knife dragging it up and down his chest and they didn't ask this man to leave and when the man walked away so did the security. the man came back and was playing with a lighter and lighting paper on fire and security still did nothing. my sister and I have never felt so unsafe in broad daylight considering there was a way to prevent this. He was also right outside the doors when the concert let out still with no security. it is sad to say that we were safer attending a concert on Colfax. read more

Fox is not what it used to be. The sound was distorted and loud but no details. And worse they added 40% in fees when buying at the door! Why? It's like charging Ticketmaster fees even when buying direct. An $18 ticket costs over $25 at the door. And, I know the musicians who played this concert..they made $15.00 each... I'm not kidding. Fox kept most of the proceeds and all of the bar profit. read more

Bouncers were acting like my friend was a child. We were at an all ages show. We all happened to be 21. One girl let all three of us through happily and then, what I'm assuming was their supervisor, took my friends ID, ripped the wrist band off of her hand and pushed her out of the way! He never gave her ID back! It was a Grateful Dead concert too! A bunch of 50+ yr olds and us! When my friend started getting upset, looking like she was abt to cry, the man was laughing at us and was saying how her ID looked "totally fake" and how we were, to sum it up, a bunch of pussies (I am very much paraphrasing). Don't come here if u want to have a good time! I'd rather go to So Many Roads! At least I was allowed to listen to some music! read more

While my friend was recently at the Rusted Root show at The Fox she managed to accidentally cut her calf on a piece of broken glass so badly that she had to go to the ER and get stitches. The management at The Fox, scared due to the fact that they should have been cleaned up the glass in the first place, not only paid for her medical bills, but they gave her access to any future show of her choice as a reimbursement. I got a call earlier this week inviting me to the Friday show where Rodrigo y Gabriela would be playing, along with other folk/indie bands. Flattered, how could I pass up a free show worth over $30/person? Maneuvering towards the front, we got a nice close standing local close to the stage. Rodrigo y Gabriela gave the most amazing performance I have EVER been to, and I felt so moved by the entire experience, that the show made my weekend. Because of this gooshy oh la la feeling, I now love The Fox... Every concert I've been to at the Fox has been quite good. Their sound system & acoustics are superb. I suppose it's because I've gone to popular concerts, and it is a relatively small venue, but the only reason I've subtracted a star is that it is too crowded to be comfortable--just about the only way to be comfortable is to dance or walk around (if there's room to maneuver among the wall-to-wall people) the whole time you're there, because sitting down or standing in one place during a show at the Fox is not comfortable. On the plus side, though, walking around and dancing burn more calories and are healthier, not to mention the increased social interaction potential. The Fox seems to be a well-managed venue, and has attracted a wide variety of talented performers over the years. Of course there's a full bar, and last time I was there they gave free drinks to designated drivers. Most bars do...it makes sense. read more

I absolutely loved this venue when I went here to see deadmau5. Very good size venue...not too small, not too big. It has that old theatre type feel. The have several bars stocked with CHEAP drinks, around $4-6 for a mixed drink)...then again I'm from CA so maybe it's just that. They have a sectioned off area for 21+...which I like because I don't like 16 year old boys moshing next to me and throwing their bodies around like ragdolls. The sound system was decent..the only thing I could suggest would be to improve their lighting system, but overall I liked it. read more

racist bouncers! i've been sober and kicked out for being "intoxicated" many times. they expect everyone to do the white people awkward dancing, sway side to side maybe some quiet clapping. anything else is "intoxication", No fun allowed. go to literally any other venue. my friend who used to work there says the security team hates EDM shows, bad attitude ready to take out on ppl. and they confiscate real id's and deny entry. I went to the Fox with a friend of mine to see Shakey Graves at the beginning of February. I emailed the venue prior to the show to request ADA seating and they promptly replied saying that they would have two seats reserved in the ADA seating area. The seating was behind the sound booth at the back of the theatre but it is such a small venue it really did not feel that far. The sound was amazing and the staff and bartenders were nice. Entrance was easy and everyone was patted down by the back of the security guards' hands. read more

Great venue. Friendly and helpful staff. Good drinks with fair prices. Sound in the room is better on the floor, but the side risers give a good view and are a nice divider of the space. The one criticism I have to give is that the hand soap in the bathroom smells absolutely horrid. Please change it. read more

I'll haul my cookies up to Boulder for a show at the Fox primarily because that's as close to Denver as the Eels or They Might Be Giants tend to get. It is well described as having an intimate feeling because no matter where you stand you can see and hear quite well. I tend to get enthralled in the music particularly deeply here as it feels the performance is intended just for you. My only beef with the place is that occasionally the crowd is full of self-absorbed jerks who yell demands at the performers far too often for my taste. I'm there to kick back and enjoy the show while these a-holes try to turn human beings into iPods. Before the show, eat at the Mexican restaurant next door. Before an Eels concert several years ago, we were munching away when lo and behold the freakin' band was eating the next table over. I chose not to interrupt them but did watch them eat surreptitiously with my peripherals. After the show, hit up Jimmy John's on the other side to soak up the booze. read more

Three stars because the Fox really does get some cool acts. But in the end, only two stars because the place is such a freakin dump and the beer is warmish. Staff there is decent and seem to take safety at packed/sold out shows seriously. Saw The Hold Steady there last night and ended up on the 21 and under "holding pen" because it was the only place that my injured companion could get enough room to be comfortable. I would much prefer to see a band in a Denver venue like the Bluebird, or the Gothic. Which are both dumps also, but they are pretty cool dumps with more room, better sound and traffic flow. read more

This place is absolute horrible. I was 21 and showed up completely sober and they told me I couldn't drink. Then my friend and I were peeing, and a security guard barged into the stall and told us to get out because someone else who was drunk and throwing up needed the stall. So they kicked everyone out of the bathroom, even if they were in the middle of peeing?? I don't think it's acceptable to walk into a stall of a girl who is naked and going to the bathroom to tell her someone else needs that exact bathroom??? Seems like a lawsuit to me. I had my first foray to the Fox theater this past week when I was invited to a show by a friend with an extra ticket. I always have slight hesitations about going to a new music venue, especially a standing room GA place, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the Fox. First things first-parking. I got there an hour and a half before doors and found a parking spot no problem on 13th, on the other side of College Ave. You only have to pay for parking until 7 PM, which is nice-it's $1.25/hour, so you can pay that little or even nothing at all. Big, big points for easy, cheap parking. The staff here is great. They made sure we knew where to go to pick up will call tickets (literally across the street at a record store). The guys taking tickets and handing out wristbands are super efficient and friendly. It sounds crazy, but the downfall of a lot of theaters is that the staff is either rude or couldn't care. The Fox Theatre staff is the opposite of both of those problems. The theatre itself is very intimate and well laid out-there are two "tiers", one raised above the other, plus two side areas. I'm not sure if the show was sold out, but we had plenty of room in front and behind, another nice touch. Now here's one of my absolute favorite things about the Fox-drink prices are very reasonable. You'll pay the same for a fat tire as you would at the Illegal Pete's across the street ($5). The slight downfall is that the minimum on a card is 2 drinks-but again, given prices, really not that bad at all. The bartenders are also very efficient and friendly. The one thing that makes the Fox 4 stars instead of 5 is the acoustics-vocals seemed to be drowned out and it all seemed a little muddled. Not a huge deal but something that makes the Fox not quite perfect. Still, I had a great time at the Fox, and I look forward to seeing another show there. read more

The Fox Theatre deserves stars mainly for the acts that it gets. The bands are truly great and sound quality is way up there. Having said that... drinks are pricey, the space division is a little weird and the mainly college audience made my experience a little less awesome (sidebar... this one time, I was in the bathroom and had the experience of being sandwiched by pukers in the stall on either side. At 9:00, I gotta say it's a little early. Their friend came to check on them, at which point they both indicated that they just 'needed a rest.' I later saw them swigging out of a flask and tee-tottering in the under 21 section, mere moments away from possible repeat pukage- a little lame.) Great acts, odd pricing, and unpredictable crowds are all part of the appeal. read more

A historic spot in Boulder, and a good place for a show. I can't count how many times I've been here in my life. The staff has always been friendly, the drinks have always been inexpensive, and the sound system is one of the better ones for a venue this size. What always impresses me is the fact that everybody seems to be having a great time here, whether working or playing, which always makes for a great time. The location doesn't allow for the best parking options, but it's close enough to everything downtown that that doesn't really matter too much. We were here Thursday night for a private party, and they treated everyone very well. I've always left the Fox with a smile on my face and a song in my heart! read more

First time going here for a concert last night, Big Head Todd & The Monsters... cool venue. Kinda small and we got packed in. But the bartenders were friendly and the drinks were reasonably priced. It did get freaking hot in there and I wish they'd left a door open. If someone from the Fox reads this- please do some upgrades to the women's restroom... new toilet seat covers and a 2nd hand dryer would be lovely. Oh, air freshener too. read more

I've been here once and I found the acoustics strange. The bass was far too loud near the front, drowning out the higher ranges of sound (including the singers voice) but near the back it was balanced out. However, the drinks at the bar were strong and the size ideal for a more intimate concert, even if your hair is blowing back from the sheer volume. read more

Quite possibly my favorite music venue, EVER! I've been hooked since my first show here. The acoustics are fantastic, the acts are great, and the drinks are reasonably priced and easily accessed from the three bars. The layout of this small venue is tiered well such that there's rarely a spot where you can't see the stage. My 5'2" concert-going buddy can vouch for that. They also do a good job of separating the U21s and the drinkers. From my experience, the crowd has never gotten out of control even during the more energetic shows (Jurassic 5 comes to mind). The location is also key, as there are many restaurants/bars in the area to eat & drink before the show. I believe the Sink still offers 15% off tabs if you show your tickets to the waiter(ess). On a side note, there is a very good coat check (behind the soundboard). This is pretty useful for those winter nights. read more

Went to The Fox for SAVOY's record release party. Place was sold out and hopping! Picked up my tickets @ will call after only waiting a couple of minutes. Security didn't pat us down on the way in, but they stole all our glow-sticks (which cost them a star). Bouncers inside were everywhere grabbing everyone's glow-toys. What's up with that? It was easy to get a drink in the 21+ section. I think it was $3 for a beer and $5 for mixed drinks. Easy to see the stage, thanks to the tiered dance floors. I'll be back for sure. PS. The bathrooms are disgusting! The sinks were already filled with vomit by 10pm. Such is life in a college town. read more

I actually really like the fox. Its small but not too small. Unfortunately since its in a college town, it sells out more than it doesn't sell out. It is always PACKED in there. you can't move and during the 18+ shows the sectioning off is lame. It does have alot of awesome guests and I've seen many amazing shows here, one of the best being Andrew Bird. I like how you can stand on the sides to be a little higher (always good for someone as short as me). The location is great if you go to CU. If you're from out of town and you need to park.... good luck. But I guess that goes for all of Boulder. While I still miss Tulagi, the Fox will always hold a special place in my heart. read more

Hands down, one of the best places to see a show in Boulder, why? Because there's no bad seat in the house. The theatre is in a horse shoe shape, and has a couple of levels. So you can pretty much see the stage from no matter where you are. It does get packed since it is a small space, get there early to stake out your spot if you're short like me and having giant heads block your view is never fun. There's a bar in the center and one on the side. I think the drinks the bartenders make are great. Acoustics are good, I've been there twice so far and the first show the sound was amazing, the second not so much... the singers mic would cut out, get feedback, and it seemed like the treble was way too high. Who knows, maybe there were having an off night. Parking isn't usually a problem, but you do have to find street parking and or there's a small lot but you have to pay 24 hours. read more

I was new in town and didn't know a soul. Didn't even know where most things were. All I knew was that Buck-o-Nine was playing at a place called the Fox, so I figured out the bus schedule, hopped on the 204 in Martin Acres (exited unnecessarily--it was my first time--and had to catch the Skip) and entered the Fox. I knew within a few moments that I was home! Ever since, the Fox has been a place of worship for me. A place where I've seen great shows, seen not so great shows, covered the crowd for an area publication and hung out in the VIP room during national showcase shows. I can't tell you how much I love this place. I was most recently there for the RJD2 show (my girlfriend is a fan). There is a reason that Westword, Denver's big altweekly, has dubbed it the area's best large venue over all the hip Denver joints. read more

(sigh) I think I'm getting old. The Fox is a fantastic place to see a show, be in a show, be backstage at a show, be VIP at a show, sneak in to a show...I've done it all. Downsides: -it's grimy all over the place -lots of drugs (ok, I guess this can be +/- depending on who you are) -it's loud -if you're short, you might not be able to see so well The great points: +great great music. bands you'll be sorry you missed in a couple years. Recent examples: Coldplay, Devotchka +it's filled with history. Everyone and their mom (and brother, and son) has played here. +good strong drinks and excellent bartenders +get backstage or upstairs and there are lots of nooks and crannies to investigate +the sound is loud, and you feel like you're at a real live show +layout prevents too much craziness +get up on that upstairs balcony, and you'll feel like you own the place...wonderful Ok, so I'm sentimental about the place. Would definitely come here again , flew to Colorado for the sole purpose to watch the killers in concert . This venue was probably the smallest i've seen them in concert ( seen them over 15 times) & was the most intimate of them all. Before the show started i ordered a few drinks, the bartenders were fast and precise. I do admit, there was a problem with one of the speakers that blew out which kinda ruined one of the songs, but i still had fun!! seeing the band so close gave me shivers!!!!!!!!! great venue!!! read more

I wish I had this kind of venue right next to my campus when I was in college. I've seen some great bands here and it's always a fun time. Except for that one time when my friends and I were convinced they just pulled a guy with a guitar off of the Pearl Street Mall and threw him on the stage as an opening act for one of my favorite bands. Horrible. But I digress. The Fox is a cozy room with great sound. The floor has two levels so the people in the back have a better chance of seeing the stage and the sides are raised also. There are lots of rails upon which to place your reasonably priced drinks or other stuff you don't want in your pockets. There are no seats here but that just means more people can squeeze in and enjoy the show. Bars are conveniently located in the back of the room and in the lobby. There is a two drink minimum with a credit card purchase but that's easy enough to do. Last time I was there I noticed a coat check. Is that new? Anyways, it's something I won't forget about in the future. And parking? Free on the streets around the venue. So college is long over for me but I can still hang out with the cool kids at the Fox. My only complaint is that I have to drive all the way from Denver to do it. read more
