Marquis Theater is one of Denver's best concert clubs. It gives off big city energy due to its placement in the Downtown/Ballpark neighborhood. To me, it's considered a club due to its size. Marquis is not big in the slightest, as it holds a few hundred people max. Sure, you'll be on top of one another here, and that's not necessarily a bad thing in my opinion. I've seen 5 or 6 shows here over the past few years. They do a great job solidifying a diverse lineup of bands and artists. Just a few weeks ago, I saw one of my favorite bands, Baroness, for maybe the 6th time. They could've easily played a larger venue like Ogden or Gothic, but chose to play to a more intimate crowd. We thank you for that! The best part of the entire venue is how low the stage is and how close you can get to the bands or artists. I have some incredible footage being right next to the guitar players. It's so damn cool! Marquis is really the only major club of its kind in Denver. Things to note: it's cashless and there's no re-entry. Another cool thing is that they make pretty damn good pizza. YEP FTW? Get yourself a slice after the show if you have the patience. This is a killer music venue in downtown Denver. The sound here is great. And, the venue is pretty intimate, so you're up close and personal with the artists. They do a great job of choosing openers for the headliners, local or touring. Sightlines: The stage is pretty low to the floor. If you want to be in the pit and you are short, get there early and get close to the stage. The taller folks are usually pretty nice about standing toward the back of the pit. Depending on the show, this can be a mellow standing area or a really dancy/moshy pit. There is a raised area behind the pit for standing/sitting during the show. Seating: There is extremely limited seating along the rail in the raised area behind the pit. This is mostly a standing room type venue. But, if you'd like to have a place to put your bum, make sure you are in line before doors are open, skip the merch line, and race straight to the seat you want to claim it. And, because there is limited seating, please don't be "that guy" and drop your jacket, etc. on a chair so you can go stand in the pit. If you brought it with you, keep it with you, leave the seating available for those who need it. Food: This venue actually serves food! Marquis Pizza serves up NY style pizza by the slice. Drinks: It's a music venue, so of course drinks are a little pricey. But, they have a nice variety and a nice bar space, so you don't have to queue up in a long line. You never have to wait long for a beverage and they have lots of tall boy type options so you are less likely to spill if bumped in the crowd or the pit. read more

I saw BANNERS perform here in August and it was amazing! The stage is pretty small but he was able to move around pretty well. The audience area is a good size and there are a couple shelves against the wall to keep water bottles and drinks on. You can bring your own water bottles, they just have to be empty when you enter. The bathrooms were your standard concert venue bathrooms with some fun graffiti scribbled everywhere. Limited street parking outside but the light rail station is close enough that you can take the rail and walk the rest of the way. I would definitely see a show here again. read more

Great sound quality in my opinion! Went here last night for Charli Party and definitely enjoyed myself. The pizza bar is a great addition and although I didn't try it, it smelled delicious. The Marquis Theater made for a fun night out. We attended a Disney DJ Night and had a blast. The layout is great, except for the big column right in the middle of the room. We stayed near the back where there was some seating and ample room to dance and enjoy a drink. All in all, I'd come back again for a night out and to try their ever popular pizza. read more

A nice venue! I was happy with it. I didn't have to wait very long to get in, though if there had been a long line I could see it taking a little longer. The whole place felt very clean, which was nice. Bathrooms were clean. Well ventilated. I attended a show in early November and never felt too cold or too hot while wearing a t-shirt and joggers. The air did not feel stuffy either. The stage is well lit, which I always really appreciate. There were a few tables to sit and watch the show, but you would probably want to show up right when doors open to make sure you get a table if you want one. A nice sound system that was not too loud, though I'm sure that can change with whoever is running sound for the band. There is also lots of parking near by. Their website says there is a parking garage near by that cost $5. This is incorrect as it cost $10. For an evening show I did see a parking lot on Market St between 19th and 18th that cost $6. It's only a couple blocks to the venue from there. read more

Wishing covid wasn't around so we can start moshing again! This is a late review is the venue during a couple metal shows I've been too. The event is very intimate, about 300 or less people but you have some big acts playing here. You get up really close to all of the bands and acts and basically the floor space is a mosh pit. You have the bar at the back if you want to hang out but anywhere near the band and floor is a circle pit. My gf and I saw some of our favorite bands in While She Sleeps and Of Mice and Men, both headlined at separate dates. One thing the event can improve on is the acoustics, vocals get drowned by the drums and the guitars are often muddy. And good luck with crowd surfing, you don't really have guards between the front row and the band, you'll have to find a way to get down safely without falling. read more

Nice little theater! The bar can make you almost whatever drink you want! There's some seating if you've been working all day, take a seat and enjoy the show. It gets decently loud in there, especially because it's an intimate theater. Cool part is you can really feel the bass no matter where you stand! Good views of the stage are almost any angle. The pizza is decent. It's nothing I'd write home about but it definitely sucks up the alcohol and gets you a bit sobered up before heading out. Over all, nice little theater! read more

Venue sound was great, it was packed but efficient. I heard horror stories but experienced none of them. Small as hell stage though so that was a little odd for a band that's usually very spread out, but they didn't seem angry so that's also nice. Overall good experience. read more

I have a confession to make...this was my first ever Metal concert experience. It was a good one to tell you the truth, highly entertaining, amazing people watching, mosh pit havoc and tons of energy from the bowels of someplace? The venue was perfect for it. It was an 18 and over show, so I couldn't thrash with my TallBoy, but being slammed against the front stage was good enough. Early Man, Dirtfedd, Arcanium and DevilDriver! Wow, the names of the bands were as bad as the metal heads at this place...sick!!!! Also, after shredding your face off in the pit, they have cheap bar pizza for $3 a slice. So tasty after drinking, probably good sober, but I would not recommend it. I have walked by the Marquis Theater many many times, but this last Saturday, I walked to the front of the crowd and experienced. read more

Love the Marquis! The Marquis is one of the few places in Denver that remind me of the classic small venues that I grew up with on the east coast - 9:30 Club, Electric Banana, CBGB's... Low stage, big bar, affordable drinks and a no-nonsense approach. I love seeing shows here! Its a small intimate setting and a great place to see a show. As a bonus, there's great pizza on site and it's an easy venue to get to with great bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. Easily one of the best small clubs in Colorado. read more

Crazy small, Crazy loud. The Marquis Theater is the perfect example of that tiny local music venue that's gonna just rock your socks right off. Sound is so damn good here. So good, that I think the show I saw here (Against Me!) is the one that damaged my ear drums haha. Protect those ears folks. I've since invested in some earplugs, but this was the first concert out of many that I've felt was too loud for my tastes. Loud, but it sounded so great. This is really one of the few venues left in town that's actually affordable as well. Usually for less than $30 a ticket, and that's including all the fees and everything. You really can't beat that in terms of price. Much better than paying in the near hundreds for any of these large acts performing at the Pepsi Center/Mile High/wherever. Great local venue. The only reason this venue gets 2 stars is because of the sound - it's great! Now the other part of this review: it was scorching hot in there when we went on March 22. Granted it was crowded, but how can they not do something to relieve the uncomfortable temperature? Lots of sweaty people (some who forgot to wear deodorant) and to add insult to injury they charge for room temperature water. CHARGE. FOR. ROOM. TEMPERATURE. WATER. I don't mind paying if I have to, but at least have it cold. Basically, this place is not worth the trouble. read more

Great venue! Intimate, gritty, smells like smoke, but the sound is fantastic and the drinks are cheap. Show tickets were very reasonable. It reminded me of CBGB back in the day, sans the graffiti and some of the dirt. And there is pizza that you can bring to the bar area. I didn't try it, but it smelled pretty good! read more

As a music venue I absolutely love the Marquis. It's set up so that you can see pretty well no matter where you're standing and the intimacy makes for an amazing show. Any time I see that a band I like is playing here I jump at the opportunity to see it because I know it will be amazing in this space, and the low ticket prices mean that I can actually afford to go! As a place to visit outside of being a music venue I'm not super into it here. Drinks are expensive for the type of venue it is ($6 for a draft beer), and no one on the staff was particularly friendly to us except for one of the two bartenders. Honestly, those concerns all sort of fly out the window when you're seeing a band you love in a venue like this. I started coming here in high school when they opened and started merging shows from Rock Island over here, and it has and will always be my favorite place to see a show. The bands they book tend to be lesser-known as the space is limited so as I've gotten older and significantly less cool I come here a lot less than I used to, but I will ALWAYS welcome the opportunity to see a band I like here with complete confidence that I will have an amazing experience. read more

Where else can you stand less than ten feet from your favorite artists for under $30 a ticket? It's been a while since I came away from a concert so shellshocked (in a good way) by the sheer volume of the music. The hallway to the bathroom felt pretty murdery, but it just added to the ambiance. To top it off, I grabbed a slice of pizza on my way out, and it turned out to be super tasty. Also, we found that the opening act did a meet and greet near the entrance before the main act started. Not sure if that's common, but it sure was cool! Obviously not everyone plays such a small venue, but worth checking out to see if someone you like comes through! read more

I don't mean to get all spiteful on their asses, but I've noticed a nagging problem at the Marquis: the grumpy staff who watch the ticket booth. Namely, the grouchy young woman who shells out extra attitude with the $2 service charge. The last three times I've purchased tickets at the venue, the same surly face has stared back at me through the fiberglass window, much to my dismay. In fairness, I try to appreciate why she would take such umbrage with a concertgoer's patronage. Yes, I understand the bustle is loud inside the venue. I realize it's difficult to hear through the ticket window. But is it necessary to roll one's eyes, interrupt the customers AND yell at them to 'speak up!!', all in one inept transaction? It's enough to make me want to stay home and pay the online service fees instead. I mean, I hate to distract you from Facebooking on your phone and laptop at work, but I just wanted to buy a ticket, and in so doing, support your squandered livelihood. If anyone from the Marquis is reading this, don't mistake me: I still love your venue, and on the whole, your staff is remarkably good at their jobs. I will continue to attend shows here on a regular basis. But if the first interaction is the one that shapes a night, I'm starting to wonder if it's time for a facelift at ye olde ticket counter. read more

So, this experience comes from over the summer, one of the Single File shows. I buy my 15 year old daughter a ticket to Single File from TicketWeb and we opt to have it mailed to us, only it never arrives. I am emailing the ticket company constantly and they are giving me one reason for another for why my ticket never arrived, but bottom line it doesn't...so I print out all the information that I have confirming that I did in fact purchase this ticket, even brought the bank statement showing when the ticket company paid themselves for my purchase. I arrived at the Will Call box office WAY (1 hour) before it opened and with a crabby 2 year old in my arms. Not wanting to stand with the two year old among smoking 16 yr olds, I asked if there was any way the ticket guys could make an exception and help me out. AND THEY DID! Of course they couldn't find my ticket and when I produced the evidence they went to great lengths to find where the hell in cyberspace that thing went. Unable to find it, but knowing that it had to be there somewhere, they issued me a "ticket" for the sold out show, making my daughter and her friends (and me) very happy. I had been meaning to write a thank you to them for really helping me out, for going above and beyond..I hope this public thank you is enough...you guys are great! read more

This is probably my least favorite place to see a show in Denver. Things I dislike: - The weird bouncy floor. Entirely impossible to view the band AND drink a beer at the same time. Lame. - Annoying door guys. My boyfriend is in a band and I once accompanied them to the Marquis an hour before the show started. The dude at the door would NOT let me in, and instead made me wait outside by myself. Eventually he was convinced to let me set up their merch table, but he agreed only on the condition that I leave immediately once finished. No other bars/music venues in town behave this way. - Snippy bartenders. They always seem to be slangin' more attitude than brewskies. - Soda jerk. The line ups they put together never make any sense. The one good thing I can say about the Marquis is occasionally they put on a good show. Oh, and one time I left my credit card there overnight and they didn't charge me the normal $20 or whatever. That was nice. read more

I absolutely LOVE the Marquis. I've been coming here for years & have only happy memories. The venue itself is super small and intimate. Smaller bands come here often and I can't imagine a better place to see them. No matter where you stand, you'll be immersed. The acoustics are surprisingly good for the small space and energy here is just epic. You rarely have the opportunity to be this close with your favorite artists. The bar is cheap and easily accessible. There is pizza in the lobby that is super good, too. It's great for a between-sets snack. If a band you love ever comes to the Marquis, don't miss the opportunity to see them here. It's a one-of-a-kind experience you won't get at a bigger venue. I'm so thrilled that I'm able to review The Marquis as my #200thReview because it is one of my all-time favorite spots in Denver. read more

Went to this venue to see the Kongos this past weekend, so my review is based on this particular experience. (Kongos were bombass by the way). Yes, it's a smaller venue and I like that. Makes the experience that much more intimate. The bar is crazy- good luck getting a drink. The space needs air conditioning! Do they have it and just not use it? It smelled of bad B.O. and felt super mucky; made me feel super gross and it kind of distracted me from the show. Tip: wear deodorant so you don't offend others in this establishment. :) read more

Very cute little place. I like how they have the place setup. There is plenty of standing space and a few places in the very back to sit down, have some drinks and look outside. The seating is up off the ground so you can still see through all the people standing. The bar is nice a big. I LOVED the happy meal special they had. (Tall boy of PBR and a shot, for $5.) People are nice but if you are under 21 you can't leave and come back in. The pizza place has yummy pizza. Bathrooms are alright. Pretty awesome place, the scene is good. Lot's of tall ass people. I went to the Norma Jean show expecting an aggressive mosh pit, and I wasn't disappointed. I must commend the mental giants they hire as bouncers After being sucker punched, I was placed in a choke hold and ejected from the show with two napkins to deal with my broken nose. Yep, I get punched, I get thrown out. Minutes later several others would leave the venue bleeding as well. Were any of these the assailant? Nope. A stunning display of brilliance on the part of the bouncers. read more

This is a really fun smaller music venue. They tend to get some pretty good up and coming acts too! The stage is a little smaller for the acts that like to go wild..but the silver lining there is the crowd ends up getting more involved in the fun :) they also have a big back area that is raised up a bit so with tables/ledges for the more chill fans. Over on the side is the bar..its pretty good sized considering the overall venue size. Drinks arent too expensive either and they are pretty quick about getting them. They also have a couple TVs there so I was even able to catch the end of an NFL game while I was waiting for the bands to come on..pretty cool! To top it off...there is Marquis Pizza. Part of the entrance area is separated off for a giant pizza by the slice shop. It is awesome. $3ish for a gigantic east coast style slice. The perfect pre or post show snack! Not going to a show but want a slice? You can still get some because they have a separate pizza only entrance. The line gets long though around when they bars close though. read more

I always enjoy my time at the Marquis. Drink prices are good, the viewing space is decent, and the sound fills the area. I would love to give the Marquis a 4-start review, but because they start closing down the bar early (shortly after bands finish playing, even before 1am), I cannot. The Marquis - having been here 4 times now - is an awful place to go to a show. The sound is bad bad bad. It's weird because I think the same person owns Summit Music Hall and that place has been great lately. They are always understaffed in terms of bartenders and overstaffed with rude bouncers. They confiscate things they have no business taking away, like pens, they won't let you take a drink into the bathroom, and they say things like 'I wear the yellow shirt, you obey my rules'. It wouldn't take too much to fix this place so I'm not sure why it hasn't happened. read more

I've been to most of the "big" venues in Denver, so I was excited to finally check out the Marquis. Now, I'm thankful that my favorite bands rarely are found here. Acoustically, the Marquis fell flat. This place is small and has a terribly obstructed view if you're near the bar, causing the sound to be pretty awful. When the bands weren't singing and were attempting to engage the audience, if you weren't immediately next to the stage, all you could hear were Charlie Brown adults, wah wah wah wah. Visually, the Marquis fell flat. Again, unless you were immediately next to the stage, which wasn't raised enough above the crowd, you couldn't see a thing anywhere in the venue. Granted I go to concerts for the music, it's still nice to *see* the band as well. If I could give the Marquis a 1.5, that's where I'd place it. I love this theater! I was recently just here for the Kill Paris album release party over the weekend and it was so much fun. I had been to this theater prior to see Safety Suit, but that feels like ages ago at this point. This venue is very intimate and dark inside. That is what makes this place so cool though. If you are looking for a concert that doesn't host thousands of people, I would recommend seeing a show here. The sound system is amazing and the stage allows for attendees to be up-close and personal with the performer. Not to mention, they have the Marquis Pizza shop located literally two point five seconds away from inside the theater. If you have not seen a show here do it! If you have not had pizza from Marquis Pizza, do it! It all ties together so nicely. read more

Four stars simply for the quality of acts that come to this place. One of the best venues for local and underground talent in the city. They also do alot of all ages shows, which allow me to take my kids and enjoy a night of music together. The sound is very good, the lighting could be better... I think a small investment in better lighting (hello, LED's people) would make it an even more memorable experience for the showgoer...
