I attended a Win Butler show here and was surprised by how much space there was on the dance floor. There are multiple bars with affordable drinks, clean bathrooms throughout the evening, and different vibes in each room. There is a decent amount of seating upstairs as well, and I got super close to the stage! I don't think I'd return unless they had a show I wanted to attend, but it was perfectly acceptable for the evening. read more

Bar Standard - one of my first and favorite clubs I got to know in Denver. I first decided to show up to a STEAM show (a weekly pizza party/house show promoted by theHundred, where they include artists from all over the world and major monthly shows). I love this place because it gives the locals a chance while still bringing in artists who can bring the house down. There isn't much space to sit, but honestly, you won't want to be sitting anyway because there is always something to dance to. The bartenders are amazing and so fast, they've always got something fun to talk about. The people who attend shows here are from all walks of life and everybody gets along. Bar Standard is a part of multiple bars within the same area, so you can explore depending on the evening but my favorite part is the rooftop that's available during the summer. read more

Came here to dance with a tribe of 12 ladies for my best friend's bachelorette weekend. We were told by one of the club promotors that we would definitely want to reserve some tables to ensure that we had a place to sit. I'm from New York City, so if you tell me we need to buy bottles in order to reserve an area I'm all for it, but I expect the place to be packed and bumppin... Maybe it was an off night, but the club was pretty dead until about 11:30 PM (even then it was far from crowded). We definitely could have done without the tables and bottle service, but we made the best of it and had fun on the dance floor. The bartender was also super friendly and accommodating. Fun Fact: Bar Standard is actually connected to several other themed bars via a labyrinth of hallways and staircases in the basement. I highly recommend wandering around and exploring the different music and vibes. read more

Finally, a place where I don't feel like puking, running, screaming, crying and/or passing out from claustrophobia or some sort of spiked drink. It is a great spot - at the moment - to enjoy great house music. I had the chance to see Chuck Love here and it was amazing. Bar Standard has, however, been changed time again (like the rest) so I don't expect this place to stick around for long. The drinks are like anyplace else, but the crowd a little less obnoxious. Being far away from LoDo, you can find parking within a reasonable distance and places to sit down and enjoy yourself. This was the Shelter at one time. Now---not so much, but still kinda. What the shelter was to contemporary vacant, the Standard is to kitschy vintage. And in the spirit of the the kitschy vintage/ the speakeasyesque interior of the Standard, i'll do up the review using every slang word circa 1930, i can. I wish i could say i'd been to REAL speakeasy's, the REAL parties to pay for my Harlem rent, when the only thing sweet and sugared was the frail eels at the function; when Jellyroll's give on the godbox could cut the Lion's and with enough drunken stride that made it to the Monk. But this joint, the Standard, don't send me down the bricks of it like that. Not quite, anyways. It's borderline dicty (definitely w/ drink prices) and their speakers are ill-toned But i forgive them because i know they're gonna do me right in the end. So far, Denver's own Mu$a has been doin the "furture shock" Saturdays and it's bringing in cats like LA RIOTS and, last week, PASE ROCK. Surely, such solid booking will continue... Now, even though Denver was sleeping on that, i'm almost at a point to begin the process of all-the-way forgiving yall. Though you're not gonna get a better opportunity for a hothot danceparty (minus that MIA is coming in a couple of weeks...) But mind yourself of this place if you Lurve developing the proverbial polaroid pictures and shaking it --like the image forming on that photo contained the secret to your life. And my absolute favorite thing about this, aside from hosting said acts and having go-go dancers, is their rooftop patio: light, slight and poilte as the ginny night. I'm suspicious of any place describing itself as having a 'retro concept' but I'm a sucker for it when it's good, so I checked Bar Standard out. Mostly what usually bugs me is an unfinished idea- a nice looking room with a terrible looking staff, or pieces that don't fit in. Fortunately Bar Standard doesn't disappoint. While it might seem odd to build a gorgeous vintage-style room around a dance music venue, I'd rather dance there, surrounded by all that loveliness than I would a stark, modern looking club. The main room, side room and VIP are all well decorated, the staff sports a 1920's style, and the music moved me to dance until close. What could be better? (actually, the VIP bartender knowing the drinks posted on the wall could make it better, but the club and staff is new, so I forgive...for now) Oh, and last Friday night, the gorgeous Miss Orchid Mei was fluttering her fans across the lovely deco stage. I'm hoping they'll add more burlesquey goodness! She and the retro lingerie clad gogo girls made for a nice bit of eye candy before midnight, when the room was a little slow. read more

So this was my second Sunday being here for their..."Sunday Party" or whatever it's called. It is a lot of fun. I was under the impression that it was only supposed to go until 10p but we kept it going til 1:45 or so. Emily (the super-star waitress) is great and the DJs and Bar staff are good too. Get an Otter-Pop next time you're there! They are good but a bit pricey...not sure why they are so pricey. They have some beds laid out along the back wall which are a lot of fun just to chill on. I usually stay on the upper deck, but the few times I have ventured to the back/lower area it has seemed pretty cool but way packed since it is smaller. If you are in the neighborhood on a Sunday you should definitely come out! read more

These people are unbelievable. I was assaulted for no reason by some dude on drugs and they kicked me out. They told me they were going to find the guy, but the guy stayed inside. I asked for a refund and they did not give it. I identified the guy when he came out and the bouncers did nothing to help out. I THINK I was here. Amids a bunch of balcony bars me and a friend couldn't stand the though of going to Vinyl on the opening night for the balcony. So we walked to the other bars across the street. We heard the music from below and had to figure out how the hell to get up there! And we did..and it was a blast. A great mixed crowd for both of us! Great tunes and we met some fun peeps. The bar is minimal, but whatever I still had my fair share of drinks. BEST of all...on my way to the bathroom I realized we were actually in the BeatPort building! How cool is that. Last night I was here for an event linked to the African film fest. I'm going to make some remarks here but do take them with a grain of salt: I don't know how often they happen. I speculate about the regularity of the phenomena I witnessed: * Go-go dancers. A pair of them dressed in cabaret costumes: 6's out of 10. Probably a regular feature. * African singer/dancer. She was a trip. At the beginning of her set she wore a glittery dress and space boots. By the end she was sporting a glorified bikini. But damn, did she have moves. Most likely a one-time deal. * People dancing and enjoying themselves. Even white folks! Who knows how much this happens? read more

I've tried a few of their different nights so far. Anytime I can be outside with a great view, listening to music, I'm happy. The rooftop patio is perfect. I have to say that the staff can really excel sometimes. I brought a friend recently and she managed to lose her phone and was panicking. The woman working the door (mixed race? gorgeous, dark hair, had a Star Wars dress on) was able to help even though the place was packed. She was sweet about it. I would imagine people lose stuff all the time and expect the people who work there to jump through hoops. It ended up staying lost, but she made it a lot easier to deal with. Granted it was Artopia last night, and the place was packed, but I've never seen worse bartending in my life. I stood in front of the bartender for 20 minutes without him even looking at me. During that time, I watched him throw away a mistake drink for every 3 he successfully poured. 8 drinks thrown in the garbage in 20 minutes. And that's about how many customers he successfully attended to. At an event like that, a business should put their best foot forward, so new customers want to come back. Bar standard is across the street from club vinyl. (You can see my review on vinyl). I feel quite similarly about this place except it's smaller and the crowd is a little bit more tolerable and hipster depending on what night you go. Another club that has great bookings on the weekends. I've seen just as many great DJ sets here as I have at vinyl. They also have a great rooftop patio to enjoy in the summer. I've been to a fun few parties up there and it's been nothing but good times and vibes with great people. definitely check out to listen to some good music and enjoy some drinks. Bar standard was fun! We had a friend playing a set for a few hours the other night. Of course there were restrictions due to COVID, such as not being able to walk up to the bar or mingle amongst tables with friends, but servers came to our tables efficiently and were very nice! I would give this bar 4 stars but it seems the bottom section is closed almost every time I go there lately. I was there last Friday for Lady Gaga's personal dj. The music was alright it was more rock n roll. There were trannies walking around doing some sort of tv filming. I did enjoy watching them as I always do. They seem to always liven up the atmosphere. Rock Star Arron was a kick ass dj and they should have him there more often. The bottom section is normally different atmospheres like 80s and goth stuff and the top floor is more regular rock. When they have both levels going it is awesome. You can wonder around into different moods. But when they only have the top floor open it seems to be such a small area. I of coarse end up going here each time I visit so can't say I don't like it though. read more

Okay, Great place to have a blast! Went there on Female Trouble Friday with a group of friends, DJ Rockstr Aaron is awesome! He is beautiful, and such a sweetheart! The group of us were straight, and it had a mixed crowd for sure, not as many straight people as we normally go party with, but had the time of our lives that night! The bartenders were really good and made us some awesome drinks. Would recommend the Friday nights for the $1 drinks for ladies! This place is worth checking out for sure! read more

THESE PEOPLE ARE SKETCHY!!!!! WATCH OUT!!! These people are crooks. I opened my card on a Thursday night of free well drinks so I could buy one or two and give the bartender a good tip. Unfortunately I ended up leaving without closing my tab and now I have 3 separate charges totaling up to over $100, FROM THEIR BAR. Either every drink their cost $30 or they are running my card up. They wont give me the time of day to get my card back, I have been back twice and they say it is still in their vault and they cant get it. They also do not have a phone number and the company who owns the bar never answers the phone. read more

Bar Standard exceeded my expectations of the experience I was going to have for my Saturday night a few weekends ago. My friends wanted to go out at the very end of the night and I wasn't really on board. They convinced me to join them for the final hours of the night. We went to Bar Standard which ended up being the highlight of the night! My night went from pretty alright fun to laughing and dancing with my friends and a night to pretty much remember. The bartenders and everyone I encountered was really enjoying themselves. The music never took a break from being on point and service was fast and inviting. I had so much fun that I accidentally left one of my bags behind containing all of my most important essentials. Just when I thought the customer service couldn't get any better, the manager, Brandon and his team met up with me during closed hours and reunited me with my bag with ALL things intact and accounted for! Definitely good people who run a very enjoyable spot to unwind and have more than a little fun. Fuck this place! Last Friday they "mis-sorted" my jacket at the coat check (aka: lost it). I've stopped by a couple times to ask about it, and they act too cool to give me the time of day. Same night a buddy left a tab open, and when he's called and stopped by to get his card, he gets the same sort of treatment. WTF? Went here last saturday night for some live house music. I liked the drummer, but I wanted to punch the emcee. He kept on hootin' and hollerin' into the mic like he was a serious celebrity. Totally was trying to cash in the band's thunder. Wasn't too crowded and had lots of room to sit down and chill. The main room had a small stage and wrap-around bar which is nice if you need a drink en route to the water closet. Other room was brightly lit and had a cool grand piano. I mainly come here on Sunday nights for the roof top parties. If you don't mind climbing up a shit ton of stairs, then you should check this place out. It's a great view at the top! Drinks are small and pricey, but the bartenders are pretty quick even when it's crazy busy. Also, no cover charge for the roof top. Just wished they would have more of a variety of music to dance to besides just EDM. read more

Never left a yelp review but worst service from a bar I've ever had. Even with like no one in it I was basically ignored for like 10 minutes while both bartenders talked and served other customers having ignored i got the girls attention after serving multiple people and she said she didn't care and then did a key bump from a guy at the bar. One of my favorite bars/clubs. I don't care what anyone else says....every single time I've been here, I've thoroughly enjoyed it! I especially love the rooftop patio parties on Sundays during the summertime. It's an awesome place to be hung-over, or to just chill with some friends in a sundress and flip-flops while listening to some great house music. I've only been to this upstairs venue once, and it was spectacular, if a bit crowded. The interior is similar to the downstairs gothy-goth venue, just more glass and less body odor, and the smoking area is fenced-off and on the street (and also narrow and crammed at all times). As long as Tower is DJing and Dougie is at the bar I will absolutely be back. read more

This place is a terrible nightclub. The employees there ARE NOT friendly at all. Actually it was the worst service I've received from any nightclub. I went to an after party here after the Global Dance Festival to see Claptone. I'm really sorry for him having to play there. It is disgusting, I walked 5 feet into the front door and immediately smelled throw up. It was about 100 degrees in there. They don't care about the way that they treat there customers. The security should be given the jobs inside the club, and maybe it would run a bit better and cleaner. If you've bought tickets for a future event I suggest you get a refund because it is not worth spending a dime there. read more

Lipgloss on Friday. A great place for beards, hats, and glasses. They even have a photographer that is constantly taking pictures on the dance floor. I have seen less pictures taken at crime scenes. Now, having been around the block I get that 7pm for a turntabilist and dj show only happens in Ibiza and that means the party hasn't stopped, but still...I'm an old fashioned type and even given wanting to be fashionably late I arrive closer to 8 and....silence. Now again, having been around the block not surprised, but I also didn't want to miss the great dj, so I show up given the information I get.
