An enormous asset to Denver. They've built a reputation that enables them to book the very best d&b artists from the UK who often only seem to play LA, NYC and here. I will say that the only issue I have is that the security need to chill out- at 2am (or earlier) they throw on the lights full beam and try and kick you out like you haven't been there all night spending money- it's often very rude and a total buzz kill. Maybe they are just old and grouchy and want to go to bed, but we all deserve more respect. 2am is lunchtime is club world! read more

A misunderstanding turned into something that shouldn't have happened. Went into the female bathroom together as we had been drinking and went into the same stall. As one of us was actively peeing we were asked and then aggressively told to get out, my friend went out of the stall with her pants down. The male security then went into the female bathroom and combatively escorted us out. There was a sign, unfortunately we weren't paying attention as we had been drinking and having fun so we simply weren't paying attention. They told us there was a sign and we kept apologizing, but with each apology they kept getting more agitated with us. It truly was a mistake, but we weren't being listened to read more

The Black Box is an ok venue. The drinks aren't super overpriced like at some places. The sound system is good and the dance floor is big... two of my favorite things. Was never harassed by anyone, just had a good time and danced. I would go back if the opportunity presented itself but I wouldn't seek it out. There aren't many places to sit and I'm not a huge fan of the poles in the middle of the dance floor. read more

Sick venue and awesome sound system, was stoked I got to play here last month. However, staff and bartenders are extremely unprofessional. It seems they hire groupies who obsess over the Djs that play there. One bartender, Nicole, would not leave me alone. I made it clear several times that I was not interested, and she could not take the hint. It made me uncomfortable and felt like I was being used for clout. One of Denver's best venues, but new staff is needed. Not dropping my name for privacy reasons, but this place needs more professional management. Perfect venue for underground sounds. Not too fancy, clean, dark, and sound is on point. All the acoustic treatment keeps sound from getting too boomy and bouncy. Bartenders are cool. I like that there's zero sound bleed between the two rooms, so I could bounce back and forth without feeling my head kicked from dueling breakbeats. Coming from NYC, where I've witnessed many a grungy basement club close with a quickness, it warms my little heart to see a vibrant scene in a dedicated space that doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I agree with the previous post~ this is the best venue in the country for underground electronic music. I used to travel by plane to the Black Box before I moved to Denver, that's how worthy it is. The sound system is incredible, the staff does so well keeping everyone safe n happy, the artists that run through there are legendary and it has vendors and a patio. Super rad. read more

Sound is great and space is awesome, but - Came here respectfully for Qbert after a few years of the Black Box being a new venue. Bought tix to see this epic show at 11:30p. Sign on the patio door says they close the smoking area at 1a. Came back there to smoke the last cigarette at 12.55p respectfully. Staff harassed us to leave instead of saying "please smoke in front." If they said that, I would have absolutely went out front to smoke. Instead, he called over the "manager" and "owner" who did not honor their written sign and instead was very disrespectful. We put out our smoke before patio closed, went back to stage to dance. Clock said 1:01a. An hour later, security harassed us to finish my drink with light in my face at 1:50a. My drink in hand was empty and I was dancing to the end of the set. I had a total of 2 drinks. I fucking live here. Security surrounded me and bullied me. I brought friends here to this show for the talent. Did not cause disruption, other than smoking a cigarette 5 min before patio closed and drank a total of 2 drinks the entire night. Needless to say, I felt unwelcome in a local venue that I came to enjoy the music. The "owner" Cory disrespected and belittled my partner and I and our friends behind us that came out for the show. Instead of leveling on an authentic plane, the security guard told me to "write a letter to your congressman." If I was belligerent and disrespectful, I would understand. I was not belligerent or disrespectful and this is the language that was used towards me here, after making an effort to come to this show, gather friends, buy tickets and drinks. I wish coming here after a few years was a pleasant experience. But if all it took was for me to say, I am smoking my last cig before you close your patio at 1a, and get totally dominated and disrespected, I feel disappointed that I can't come enjoy this space and feel safe to enjoy my time. Thanks for the hospitality, the couple bartenders and security staff that saw what was real while your coworker felt the need to be disrespectful in the city that I've worked hard to keep the vibe right. I paid for and came here to see Matrix & Futurebound, not hear two random dudes rap over their music all night. Whatever was happening in the other room was terrible. Thanks for ruining what could've been a great show. Bartenders were cool though, and the sound system is good. Update: some random girl has decided to come "dance" in front of the headliners. Rappers still rapping. I guess these random amateurs think it's their show. Maybe I'll get up and rap too, since apparently it's open mic night. Update #2: I wanted to hear some of M&Fs tracks like "Human," but I guess I have to hear it with shitty rap drowning out the actual lyrics. Thanks for that. Had never been here when it was Sutra but I said it was really nice and seemed very clean for a club like it, friend said it used to be pretty nasty. I think it's great. Perfect size, clean, lots of places to sit (I'm mobility impaired) and no stairs! I do like that there's a parking lot right there but it's a bit expensive, however most shows are free so it's ok. Love that this is the new hub for underground bass. Love Subverted Saturdays and the Whomp Truck monthly. read more

I've had a ticket to a particular show that was scheduled since the beginning of 2020 when the pandemic began. They rescheduled it eventually to January 9 of this year only to pull that date as well less than two weeks before the show was set. What pisses me off is that they refunded that show for 17$, that was rescheduled for this year, only to reintroduce another event 6 damn days later, that takes place on January 15, with the same main act this time charging only 180$ and above to get table seats with multiple people. I understand there is a pandemic going on but honor your original agreements and don't pull shady acts like this and you might stay in business. read more

I love the quality of the sound here, crowd and music really varies. Have seen some amazing djs here, keeps me coming back. I guess its pricey but I appreciate that its generally clean and staff are really quite friendly, the deck is amazing. I would give 4 or even 5 stars except that there are some creepy guys here bothering women and the bouncers are sometimes watching and do nothing. read more

This place needs work. I checked it out after hearing it was a new venue in town. It felt like hanging out with a zombie cast from Walking Dead. I suppose the animal tranquilizers have that effect on people. I got a gangster vibe from the thuggish suburban kids. The gangster poster above the DJ both from a crime movie before most of these kids time solidified that feeling. I loved the restroom as I saw three sets of shoes in the stall. They must of had a cold because there was an awful lot of sniffles coming from the area. A bathroom attendant is certainly necessary. The outdoor patio was interesting as a group of guys acted like they owned the place, blocked the entrance as they carried on about sound engineering. In the time I smoke 1 cigarette I already had been offered "molly, coke and k". I must admit the sound seemed very intense once I found the door to the main room. Awkward layout! Bar staff was rude! Box office seemed amateur. Very redundant process getting in to venue. Took longer than expected for the size and quality of the establishment. Seemed like they deliberately trying to create the illusion of being a "hot club" by having a massive line out front... tacky! Gave club a second shot and came for their Thursday show. The crowd sorta reminded me of the groups in high school that ditched class and got wasted. No class! I could no longer handle the awful local DJ playing weird music reminiscent of borderline personality disorder. Heading to my car in the lot next to the venue I asked a group of guys if this was the usual crowd. They proceeded to insult and intimidate me. I now know this is "their club" and my kind are not welcome. The cherry on top was the mob leaders urination on the side of the building like a dog marking his territory. Shameful experience for "my kind" being relatively new to Denver and a paying customer who enjoys hard music. I should have listen to the guy in the restroom at a real nightclub in town the weekend earlier. After spotting a flier in restroom and engaging the guy next to me regarding The Black Box's reputation, I was informed the place was considered "low rent". I assure you I will avoid this venue. read more

I visited for my first time last night with my boyfriend who is street team member for this venue. My overall experience was pretty great. I loved the atmosphere and everyone was really nice. The bartender named Alex made my night with his friendliness. The sound system in the main room was even better than Red Rocks can provide anymore.
