Surround sound, easy going views and hand rails for the win. Came to Fox Theatre on Aug. 10th for Corrosion of Conformity and Crowbar, the show was killer! It's an intimate club. Probably maxing out at a couple hundred. Which makes for a great experience. Security does a brief check and you're already through the doors. Merch tables on the left, a bar in front, and the stage straight back. Let's talk about these hand rails. I've never been to a club with a lengthy hand rail in the center of the floor. If you're lucky enough to snag this VIP spot (like I did) your beverage will sit securely fastened while your free hands can praise the rock and roll gods. Additionally, the sides of the floor are raised up, which lots of folks gravitated toward. There's really not a bad spot in the house. And yeah, they let the bands get loud. Real loud. Fox Theatre has an endearing divey charm. It takes a back seat in order for the bands to shine, which is really all you can ask for at a venue. \m/

While my friend was recently at the Rusted Root show at The Fox she managed to accidentally cut her calf on a piece of broken glass so badly that she had to go to the ER and get stitches. The management at The Fox, scared due to the fact that they should have been cleaned up the glass in the first place, not only paid for her medical bills, but they gave her access to any future show of her choice as a reimbursement. I got a call earlier this week inviting me to the Friday show where Rodrigo y Gabriela would be playing, along with other folk/indie bands. Flattered, how could I pass up a free show worth over $30/person? Maneuvering towards the front, we got a nice close standing local close to the stage. Rodrigo y Gabriela gave the most amazing performance I have EVER been to, and I felt so moved by the entire experience, that the show made my weekend. Because of this gooshy oh la la feeling, I now love The Fox... So, does it give it points because The Fox brought the band into town, or the band points for coming to The Fox, either way, I will back. * Star one is for my friend getting cut on a piece of glass, I don't endorse it, but it worked for us so far ** Too much beer gives me the tinkles star two is for out-of-the ordinary extremely nice bathrooms *** Too bad I am not stoned star three was for the invisible yet glow in the dark hand stamps, allowing us to walk outside and back in again without a line and without ID'ing every time **** Move it move it star four was for the lack of seats, which caused me to shake my tush more often ***** The final star is a gift from Rodrigo y Gabriela, my new favorite band

Every concert I've been to at the Fox has been quite good. Their sound system & acoustics are superb. I suppose it's because I've gone to popular concerts, and it is a relatively small venue, but the only reason I've subtracted a star is that it is too crowded to be comfortable--just about the only way to be comfortable is to dance or walk around (if there's room to maneuver among the wall-to-wall people) the whole time you're there, because sitting down or standing in one place during a show at the Fox is not comfortable. On the plus side, though, walking around and dancing burn more calories and are healthier, not to mention the increased social interaction potential. The Fox seems to be a well-managed venue, and has attracted a wide variety of talented performers over the years. Of course there's a full bar, and last time I was there they gave free drinks to designated drivers. Most bars do...it makes sense.

I absolutely loved this venue when I went here to see deadmau5. Very good size venue...not too small, not too big. It has that old theatre type feel. The have several bars stocked with CHEAP drinks, around $4-6 for a mixed drink)...then again I'm from CA so maybe it's just that. They have a sectioned off area for 21+...which I like because I don't like 16 year old boys moshing next to me and throwing their bodies around like ragdolls. The sound system was decent..the only thing I could suggest would be to improve their lighting system, but overall I liked it.

Saw Rakim here last year. The show was good, the venue was pretty sweet. It's intimate and the views good from anywhere. The folks here were really chill, too. The location is fun.

An older theater, this place is in good shape. Easy getting through security and in the door, there are good selections at the main bar, as well as the lounge there too. Also, compared to other venues, beers for ~$10 each seemed like a reasonable value. The venue itself isn't huge. We didn't realize seats weren't permanent. They're practically on top of each other, and there isn't much legroom. Luckily, we were on the aisle, so it wasn't that big of a deal, although having to leave the row so others could get in was a bit of a pain.

And another awesome factor, we parked for free in a free parking garage nearby. Like a free parking garage is unheard of nowadays, and I love that Boulder offers one. We were lucky enough to snag great seats in the balcony for prime viewing of the stage. The sound and lighting were on point and the bars were easily accessible. I, especially, loved how the seats moved and, in a sense, "reclined" so I didn't have to sit up super straight. However, they could've been padded a little more as I was getting a bit sore. All in all, I loved this place and would be glad to see a concert here again!

This is a really cool underground speakeasy at the historic Hotel Boulderado. It reminds me of the…read moreSan Francisco bar scene. True to the name, they hold one of Boulder's first liquor licenses. Inside is a maze of sorts, as you wander through different rooms offering different vibes and activities. They have two bars, host comedy nights and live music, various types of seating, and a wonderful happy hour menu that people should know about. Happy hour is from 5-7pm on all days they're open! PENICILLIN ($8) // Dewar's White Label Blended Scotch Whisky, Laphroaig 10 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, ginger cordial, honey, lemon. A penicillin is one of my favorite cocktails; one you don't even find on many cocktail menus. The act they're offering it up, for $8 no less, earns a special place in my heart. MOJITO ($8) // Bacardi Superior Rum, mint, simple syrup, lime. Refreshing on those hot days. Served in a large highball glass, this is an enjoyable sipper. BREADED CALAMARI ($10) // Calabrian chili agrodolce, orange salt, chive. I believe the food comes from the upstairs restaurant, so I wouldn't go out of my way to order this one again. Pieces were inconsistently chewy, dare I say rubbery? However, I was hungry and still chowed down. TRUFFLE FRIES ($6) // Truffle aioli, parsley, Parmesan. These are a winner. Truffley and cheesey, what more can a fella ask for during an inebriated meal? Would order these again in a heartbeat! I liked the casualness of this speakeasy. It makes sense considering they're inside a hotel and people will wander in and out of different spaces. Great place to hideaway or have a date night. Need to check out one of their live music or comedy nights!

Oh gosh... let me start by saying, I hate to leave a two-star review for License No. 1…read more... My husband and I went to the NYE event at License No. 1. We had event tickets for NYE inside the speakeasy as well as the comedy show at 8PM. The comedy show was great- hilarious in fact! I loved the comedians. The service for drinks was very slow and our seats were uncomfortable. Our seats at least had backs on them, the couple next to us had to sit with their back against the wall, which they said was uncomfortable for the duration of the show. After the comedy act, we went in for the NYE experience. The speakeasy is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The furniture, the decor, the mood, all amazing! The line for drinks was asinine. The bar was crowded with what looked like only 2 bartenders working. And the bartenders were making extravagant cocktails that would take more than 5 minutes each to prepare. It was ridiculous! In my opinion, there should have been a set list of drinks to order that would make the line go faster. My husband and I were at License No. 1 from 8PM - 12:30AM and both only had two drinks each because we didn't want to waste our time standing in line. Also, we ordered dinner at 10PM. I ordered a burger with fries and he ordered a Pastrami Sandwich with fries. After an hour went by, I asked about our food order. It turns out they gave it to the wrong table. They told us to wait and they would bring it out shortly. Fast forward, it's now getting close to midnight and time to make the champagne toast. It's around 11:45PM and still no food. I didn't want to be a "Karen" but at this point I was irritated and hungry. I talked to a manager and he said the kitchen was "a mess", all the food order numbers got mixed up, and he seemed surprised we hadn't received our food yet. We finally received our food around 12:15AM. And what was disappointing to me is that I had paid the bill ahead of time when I placed the order, 20% tip included. We left shortly after. I would love to go back to License No. 1 and hopefully have a different experience, where I can leave a 5-star review.
