Heard the food was good, so thought we would try it out. It's a typical tap house. Minimal vegetarian options and really just appetizers, which are not full meal worthy (ie chips & dip, beer battered pickles). We ended up with bowls that were pretty good. You can swap a veggie patty for the hamburger, but if it doesn't say the brand, it's usually a mushy bean patty. Yes, we could have asked. But just chose to go with the bowls. Ambiance was typical of a tap house with lots of tvs showing men's sports. Is it really that difficult to have one small TV in the corner playing women's sports? Boulder Tap House is a mid sized restaurant chain with 10 locations across MN and IA (and one new one in WI). The defining features are a very large list of beers on tap and a big burger menu. When deciding if to eat here at the Mankato branch, the most burning question is: how does it compare to the Buffalo Wild Wings across the street?? The bottom line: Boulder Tap House has a large, interesting menu that dinners will enjoy reading over and discussing, but ultimately takes a hit in terms of quality control. Interesting menu: Choose from traditional or boneless wings with 13 different sauce options, else peruse a selection of 16 different burgers with 3 different patty blends! (Angus chuck, butter burger, or 60/40 beef-angus patty). Quality control: they suffer in details like fried pickles that stick together in a clump, burgers that are dense, dry/over cooked, and variable french fry quality -- a franchise like BWW will often have better quality control. The service was good, our waitress was nice! Vibe is very sports bar. Ultimately, this is a more expensive option compared to the BWW across the street and the food isn't quite as good. I would say eat here if the menu draws you in, but manage expectations and look elsewhere if you want a fantastic meal. Final bit: 3 or 4 stars. When I cook myself a burger at home, it is juicy and delicious. My Reaper Burger had some nice toppings - jalapeno bacon, and a truly spicy "inferno sauce" but the burger patty was not up to par - too dense and dry. There are 10 of these restaurants - I think about their patrons and think they deserve a better burger. I brought my grandson, his wife here for a birthday dinner. Anything that could have gone wrong - did! I ordered a small tap beer. 10 minutes later they brought me a large. I had them take it back and bring me a small one. 10 minutes later they brought my glass of beer! I ordered beer cheese soup - they brought me chili. My grandson ordered his burger with no sauce - it came with sauce! 15 minutes later he got another burger with no sauce. He ordered a specialty (non-alcoholic) beverage and was brought something that was completely NOT what he ordered! Sent THAT back as well! Our waitress never once even cracked a smile. She wasn't rude - but she wasn't friendly either. We talked to the manager, who was absolutely the nicest guy! He agreed to to give us a 50% discount on our bill. We stopped here after a day out and about here in Mankato. We have one in Rochester that is amazing so thought it would be delicious. It was awful. The service was terrible. I feel like we waited way too long for our food. The only reason my burger was enjoyable was because it had enough toppings on it that I could barely taste the actual burger. This place is amazing!! Came in over the holiday to have some beers and food . Our hostess with the mostess Rowen was friendly and greeted us like we are neighbors, sat us down in a cozy warm spot and directed us to what we might like on the menu. We ate the stuffed tater tots and soft pretzels for our appetizers which were perfect and the sauces available with them complimented their flavor. We then decided to order a bunch of burgers and share them. That was a great idea but they were so good I would have ate them all. I will say, I miss the smash burgers. The new burger patties are definitely missing a crust, so they are missing flavor. They Reaper burger is HOT. I handled it well, just a little runny nose, but I needed a lot of water. The inferno sauce isn't just spicy, it has great flavor too. I appreciate the addition of deep fried pickle chips over the spears they used to have, however they come out really clumped up. There is no way to grab just one pickle chip. I needed something to eat, a cold drink and a place to hang out between games at the MN State High School Softball Tournament. The Boulder Tap House was where I headed. Felt like I should have had a burger since that seemed to be the specialty, but I opted for the Tequila lime chicken tacos with chips and salsa and a left hand milk stout to wash it down. All very good. I really liked the grilled taco shells. It was definitely more than one person needed to eat for lunch. I boxed up the chips for later. Service was excellent. Traditional bone-in Wings are some of the best around; the burgers are what make the experience. Nicely prepared and served hot with crispy fries. Stopped in after seeing Christmas Lights in Sibley Park. The place was some what busy but service was excellent! The onion rings and fries were nice and crisp. The wings could have been fried more to my liking and the sauce had a nice sweetness but there was no spice like the name says. They have a nice Cheeseburger, fries and shake meal. We observed inside the restaurant at pickup time that things are spaced out well and, if you're comfortable eating inside a restaurant at this time, Boulder Tap House is doing good work to make that safe for customers and staff. This is probably my favorite place to chill and have a couple beers in Mankato! The staff are always friendly, the giant cubes of cheese curbs are savory + delicious and there is a great beer selection including some local MN beers which is cool to know and support. As an alumnus of MSU, I definitely miss coming here and always try to when I'm in town catching up with old college buddies. I definitely recommend getting the Tap House Potatos because they are soooo bomb- basically just fresh fried chips but you can pick your seasoning (I like the Cajun one). read more

The hubs and I had dinner here last night. We both had burgers. He had a cheeseburger with fries and I had the Hickory Cheddar burger and onion rings. Neither one of us were impressed with the taste of the burger. My burger was quite tasteless and dry. I could barely eat the second half of mine because it was too dry. I did like the pretzel bun that it came on. My hubby said that his fries were pretty good and my onion rings were good, but a little greasy. He ordered a strawberry milkshake that tasted good, but if you like drinking your shake from a straw, this shake would probably not be for you. It had way too many whole or almost whole strawberries in it. Even though the strawberries couldn't be sucked up through a straw, I am giving this place 3 stars for the taste and amount of shake you get. The service was ho hum. It was kind of late on a Saturday night and not a lot of customers there. I would think the wait staff would have been more attentive, but I had to wait too long between refills on my Diet Pepsi. I would suggest to the owners of the restaurant itself, if customers are going to have to wait so long, maybe use bigger glasses so they wouldn't have to be refilled as often. This was our second visit here. We weren't impressed the first time, but decided we would give it another shot. We probably won't be visiting this establishment again anytime soon. read more
