Business lunch with a colleague and a customer during a recent visit. We got there a bit early - the place was empty when we arrived, so we got a good seat without a wait. I had a burger, which was very good. The others ordered the daily specials. All were satisfied. No problems with service, facilities, or anything else. Prices were fair for a place like this. This is by far the best place in Mankato for beer, food, and good hangs. The staff is like family. Brooke, Gaby, Doug and Brandy are by far and away the best waitresses and bartenders in town. You can't beat their all day happy hour in Mondays, $1.75s tall domestics on Sundays, and their Wednesday 2-for-1's. This was one of my hangouts in Kato. I was happy when it expanded. Pluses: -Great bar food, especially the old standard chicken strips with lightly seasoned fries and honey mustard. Nachos, the Maverick Burger, the Ace of Spades and their buffalo chicken salad are tasty too. -The Cider beer on tap. Nice if you're sick of beer or hungover. - Location. Good place to get your night going. Always people around and the patio is nice. - Music/Decor. Love the blues and the photos that compliment the bar's name. Minusses: - The smell. It's almost worse since the smoking ban. - The staff. It's tough to get any service, even when it's slow. I wish the back bar would just stay open all the time. Now Blue Bricks...back in the day when it first opened was a great place to go, not a typical "college" bar, being in the same district as where all the other bars are at. They have a great atmosphere and a patio as well, which makes up for the non-smoking in the bars law that Mankato...then Minnesota passed. There selection of beer is good, both tap and bottles. Now there food as always been top notch. I have never had an issue with the quality of food that they produce. The prices are reasonable for the money that you pay for the quality. read more

I've been to Blue Bricks three different times now, with more than a year between the first two times. I find it to be a nice little piece of the city in my home town. It's a large-ish establishment which, having been divided into three distinct long and narrow rooms, has managed to retain (at least somewhat) the feeling of a smaller bar. In addition to that, Blue Bricks has the largest (and by far the best) draft beer menu that I have seen in Mankato, featuring craft beers (including several from Minnesota), as well as imports and domestics. Leinie's Honey Weiss, Summit Pale Ale, Sierra Nevada Pale, and Boulder Singletrack are a few examples. The only food I've had is the breaded cod sandwich (around $7) with onion rings substituted for fries. The sandwich was better than I expect for Mankato, and the beer-battered onion rings were tasty, too. Waitstaff has been attentive but not overbearing during all of my visits. In short, this is a place I would expect more of in the beer & food departments if it were in a larger city, but in Mankato I feel quite comfortable here. Reminds me a little bit of the Old Town Alehouse in Ballard. But I do wish there were no TV's behind the bar ... read more

Where would I be without Blue Bricks? I mean I totally miss the old school Don's Hobby and their creaky floor. Blue Bricks, in my opinion, definitely holds the honor of being able to sustain a business in this memorable building. The first time I ate here I was a little sketchy about the food just looking at the kitchen. Just a little corner grill not much bigger than what you find in most RV Campers these days. I was completely worried my burger would be this grease riddled slab of tough meat. To my surprise, The Maverick Burger, THE MOST DELICIOUS CONCOCTION TO GRACE MANKIND. It seems lately that the K-Town bar scene has become a place for trendy elitist college bar snobs and it's hard to be able to go to anyone specific establishment and actually enjoy it. I'll come to B.Bricks for as long as they're around, not because they have one or maybe two choices of Oregon beer, but because it's my version of Cheers. My experience at blue bricks was not very pleasant. I ordered a pretty simple meal, just a burger and fries. Our waitress was not the greatest. We ended up waiting about 45 minutes for our food. The kitchen messed up my order right off the bat. They also burnt my burger and way overcooked the fries. The best part of my meal was the pickle that came on the side. It was definitely not worth $11 the meal cost. I will not be coming here for food again in the near future. I would much rather go next door to rounders. A group of seven of us ate here on Saturday afternoon. The service was super slow, even though the restaurant was not busy. Ordered a Terriyaki salad and added shrimp, which was an additional charge. Didn't think to ask if it was breaded (the menu didn't mention it) and I am allergic to gluten. Salad came with breaded shrimp. Waitress brought me a little dish with some boiled shrimp in it and terriyaki sauce in a cup. Unappetizing as I was expecting the shrimp to be cooked together with the sauce (the breaded stuff was). All other guests at the table ordered french fries with their meals and all came out COLD. When we mentioned it to the waitress, she just said, "Oh, that's too bad." She didn't offer to bring out hot ones or take anything off the bill. Not impressed!! read more

This is a typical old tavern with lots of historic charm. Very large bar and lots of seating inside and out. Lots of tv's, pool and space to roam around. Great bartender & attractive servers. For me and my friends, Blue Bricks is our go-to bar for any small gathering (birthday, going away party, etc). Spending time here in a small/medium sized group in the middle of the afternoon is when I get the best outcome! Reasonably priced drinks and a full menu of great food. Have yet to have a bad experience with service. Weekend night life is not as rowdy as other Mankato bars. Rounders and Red Rocks have more of a party atmosphere, but Blue Bricks shines as a more laid back option! read more

Blue Bricks has a special place in my heart, since it's where my husband and I went on our first date. Blue Bricks has been a favorite bar of mine since I was very young, so it's been on my favorite list for more than 10 years. If you want a fun, very busy place to go late night on Thur, Fri, or Sat, then this is the place. If you're looking for more quiet and more adults, go a bit earlier and you'll be fine. Great middle of the road bar. Not a total dive, not super snobby. The tap selection is pretty rock solid, with many tried and trues mixed in with a great variety of craft brews. The food is great, for bar food, and a half pound burger is nothing to scoff at. For something a little less "red," the salads are well proportioned and quite tasty. The pizza does take a bit longer, but like the menu says, they are worth it! Helpful tip; if it's looking pretty busy at the bar, grab a table and try to flag down one of the waitresses. I love to go here for their unique food. The last time I was at this bar the bartender was VERY busy running around. He grabbed my card and was gone for quite awhile... (I was sitting at the bar) my total was less than $15 bucks. A couple days later I notice that I had two charges on my card from BB that night. One for the correct amount and another for just under $17. This was not my charge! I understand that this happens occasionally. I called down there and asked for a manager. I was told there was no manager there and they would have to take a message. I was told I would get a call back. THREE DAYS LATER I called AGAIN I finally spoke to a manager named Ray. He knew everything about me because he got the message! Just never called me back!?!? He continued to tell me that him and the owner would have to go back through CC receipts. I understand this is a pain in the neck so I politely said that I would be back again and I would be willing to settle with a gift card. He said he would call me back! Now here I am six weeks later complaining online. I know it's Only $17 bucks, but that is absolutely TERRIBLE customer service! read more

Fun atmosphere,good drinks,fair service and the exact same uninspired, Sysco derived, frozen out of a box, bland food you will find in every other Mankato restaurant save a few. Nothing I have ordered has been terribly impressive to be honest. Their burger patties are tough like shoe leather and while they do try hard to mask it by offering plenty of options for toppings a well topped piece of shoe leather is still well....Shoe leather. Also, make sure you avoid their "New Yorker" pastrami sandwich I had it once and it was so dry I almost choked on it and had to promptly follow every bite with a swig of beer just to be able to eat it. Their Rueben is edible. Make sure to ask for seasoned fries if you don't want them to taste of over used fryer grease and have that stale open bag in the freezer flavor. Overall not at all impressive. Kato could do so much better if people would stop settling for garbage like this. Food service food that is prepackaged and warmed up in a restaurant is not good food people.... read more

LMAO at all of the reviews of this place on the internet that say something along the lines of "if it was anywhere else I'd expect more, but for Kato it's good". This is exactly why you will never have many quality restaurants in Kato. That being said, the food here is usually pretty good for the bar food it is. The beer selection is fair for a small town bar (cider on tap, decent big name import selection). The service can leave something to be desired, again it's a college town and it all depends on if the college girl serving you cares enough to provide quality service that day or not... it's honestly a toss up. The patio is nice and in the summer it's a cool place to kick back for a few beers and some over priced snacks(again, typical for Kato). Appetizers here are an afterthought, (the open a frozen bag and dump it in the deep fryer type) Entrees aren't much better... burgers, chicken strips, chicken sandwiches and pizzas. It's a shame so many places in this town lack the creativity/knowledge/experience to actually create a menu from raw ingredients so you can't just buy the exact same thing next door. Don't show up expecting anything special here, I am convinced better than 90% of the menu is frozen and straight off of a Sysco food service truck (the only thing I'm not sure are trucked in is the pizzas) which honestly is typical for both the area this restaurant is in and for the whole of Kato save a few real gems. read more

We order delivery all the time from here and have never had any issues with our address or our orders. Today we ordered a pizza and a quesadilla from Kelsey who was very snotty from the get go. We gave her our address and phone number and she told us an hour. An hour and fifteen minutes later I called to check on our order to which she said they had the wrong address and then completely changed her story saying that a half hour previous the delivery guy rang out doorbell 3 times which was completely false since I was in our living room the whole time right in front of our front door and they never called us to ask us what was the correct address or anything. When I questioned this she became very rude and asked "What do you want us to do?" To which I hung up. We will never ever order from here again and will go 100% out of my way to tell people not to order from here because of Kelsey. She should not be working in a customer service environment. read more
