Upon arrival, we picked up a personalized envelope containing a park map and rules, amenities key card, and directions to the assigned spot for our 40' RV. Lovely grounds with paved roads, concrete parking pads, and a landscaped picnic area for each site. If clean and spacious bathrooms matter to you, you'll love the ones here! We didn't stay to use the other resort amenities, though the pool area, social house and shaded path benches looked inviting. Now if you are gonna call yourselves Premier and Resort you definitely need to upgrade your cable and Wi-Fi. Though we did get many channels with our antenna. We also had good Verizon cell service so I didn't use the Wi-Fi. We will stay here again during a time when it's not 110 degrees.

First time in Redding; first time in over a year to reunite the family since the CoVid pandemic…read more Out of all the RV parks in the area we looked at, we're glad we went with Mountain Gate. First off, our experience with customer service over the phone was always pleasant. They answered our questions, found us the accommodations we needed (we requested an RV spot and cabin) and made the necessary adjustments. Bridget and Patty were awesome! Next, we loved the location: right off the interstate and easy to find. Chevron and Shell, among others are just outside. It's also located next door to the Forest Ranger Station. From here, plenty sights in Shasta and Redding are an easy drive. Third, this RV park is well-maintained and carefully kept in order. It is definitely small compared to many other RV resorts: their sites are tight, they've no individual firepits, grill or camp rings, and there are no other fancy amentities (which is just right for these times of social-distance protocols.) The shared showers and toilets are cleaned daily and garbage bins are rarely overflowing. Some sites have a patch of grass, while others have gravel. Some have sturdy plastic picnic tables; others have wooden ones. All sites have shade from mature trees; which is also great for some nature sounds by the birds as well. There is a nice pet enclosure for the dogs to play and romp around leash-free. There are only 2 cottages and we're so glad we lucked out on one of them for the Memorial Day Weekend. One of my aunts is semi-disabled so it's hard for her to camp out in the heat. The cottages are a perfect complement for a family like ours. All in all, we were so pleased with our stay over the Memorial Day Weekend. The owners and staff are great--very hospitable and respectful. They enforce certain rules and guidances inside the park but it works for a peaceful, enjoyable stay for every camper. We would definitely stay here again if we find ourselves back in the area!

The electrical pedestals are older, so I'd recommend bringing a surge protector. The sewer hookup at our site sat well above ground, making it difficult to properly drain our tanks. The small trash cans and some of the older yard décor also made the park feel a bit dated. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return because of the convenient location and spacious sites.

The dining car was a special treat, the meal overall was very good but could have been better with a little attention to detail. The rigatoni pasta dish was absolutely perfect , popping with flavor and as good as any I've ever had. We ordered a couple glasses of pinot noir with our dinner and when they arrived they were noticeably warm like 80-85 degrees like they had been roasting in the sun , not a pleasant room temp like they should be. We also ordered a large caesar salad that we all split and the lettuce was warm like it was sitting in a window soaking up the sun, plate was not chilled and even if it was it couldn't have cooled down hot lettuce, salad was light on dressing , the halved petite romaine was very bitter, i've purchased this lettuce at costco a couple times and stopped buying it because the petit romaine tends to be very bitter, i love the consistency of the smaller denser heads of lettuce but the bitterness is unpleasant .....hopefully the chef is tasting his food and can see what he thinks. My wife ordered the pasta with shrimp and loved it! My dad had the rib eye and said it was pretty good but maybe not 57$ good. The pasta dishes were 10/10 amazing , reasonably priced and generous in size , the warm wine and salad is an easy fix, it was a nice treat after a week of camping and cooking to not have to , so highly recommend giving them a try for dinner during your stay!! Mountain scenery was incredible from the campground!! The pool was a little crowded at times but we enjoyed a couple hours of pool time both days. The host in the campground Frank and his dog Reno were great !! We really enjoyed our visit and wouldn't hesitate to stop in again, a lovely place to spend a couple days !!! Thank you!!!Cheers !!

We've been going to railroad park resort since the 1990's and eating there every time we come through town - 2-3 times a year. They used to make a great steak, with a deep dark sauce with mashed potatoes and veggies. I recently ordered the steak - $58.00 - making it the most expensive entree in the area (including the high end places in Mccloud, etc) and it had no sear. was under cooked. Had no seasoning. No sauce. The potatoes were rubber and the veggies were gross. The pork chop was similarly under-cooked and had the same sides -so same feedback. I looked for a manager to talk to and couldn't find one. So I messaged them on facebook and they told me I could come by any time and talk to the cook. Where was the cook the night I was there? I was told there was no manager to talk to. I only eat their when vactioning and can't just pop in. I live 5 hours away. If they're going to raise their prices from $40 to $60 for a steak - they need to up their gave. Instead they dropped the ball. The food isn't worth it and they don't care.

We were assigned site 26 and it was just a few feet to the Sacramento River. Residents shared that Salmon runs through here, but we all know it's timing. The nearest gas station is 30 miles away in Chester. We only found one restaurant in the area. So make sure you bring everything you need with you. We stayed in Cabin 8 by the stream. It was quaint and cozy and a good size for two people. The cabin needs to be painted and updated. In my opinion, it needed a deep cleaning. Ironically our cabin had one bar of service. I think including paper towels is a must. Quite honestly, most places we have stayed at provide the least expensive paper goods possible. The places I always remember are the ones with plush towels, soft tissues, Kleenex, paper towels, and quality bedding. Overall, it was a relaxing stay in a very remote area.
