One couple brought a personal trailer, another rented a trailer and then my husband and I rented another trailer. This isn't the first time my husband and I have done this and we have always been so happy with the experiences. It's been a couple years but this last time we were highly disappointed. It was January so cold weather. The heater didn't work in either trailer. They did have a portable plug in heater available. The trailer was beat up and very dirty. No broom to sweep with even. Couldn't take a shower in trailer because it leaked water out into the hallway. The items they do provide to cook with were very few and far between. The oven didn't work so couldn't bake anything we planned on baking for breakfast. The propane for the bbq was empty but husband ended up using the one on the porch of the store. At this time I wouldn't suggest renting any trailers since our friends said their trailer wasn't much better. The facility showers for women were very clean but men's lights were not working so night time visits required a flashlight. Won't be back anytime soon. My husband did try to go and talk to someone but it was right after the store hours so no one available.

We booked same-day by phone, and received a confirmation email with instructions for after-hours self-checkin. Upon arrival, we picked up a personalized envelope containing a park map and rules, amenities key card, and directions to the assigned spot for our 40' RV. Lovely grounds with paved roads, concrete parking pads, and a landscaped picnic area for each site. If clean and spacious bathrooms matter to you, you'll love the ones here! We didn't stay to use the other resort amenities, though the pool area, social house and shaded path benches looked inviting. Back in March we booked a three-day stay at Lakeshore Resort in Lakehead from June 11-14 to…read morecelebrate our 24th wedding anniversary. We frequent Shasta Lake and the Lakehead area, so we're familiar with the region and understand that many businesses are heavily dependent on the seasonal tourism industry. We chose Lakeshore Resort because of the amenities advertised on their website, including the pool, bar, restaurant, store, upgraded cabins, proximity to the lake and boat launch, and the option to rent an RV space next to our cabin to keep our boat. This setup was highly recommended and seemed perfect for our anniversary getaway. When we arrived on Thursday, the managers had everything ready for us and were very pleasant and welcoming. Before I continue, I want to say that my husband and I are not overly picky travelers. We don't expect luxury accommodations. However, when we entered Cabin #10, it was nothing like the photos shown online. We had paid for one of the upgraded cabins and were shocked by its condition. The cabin was extremely dated and in significant disrepair. The ceiling was falling down and had a hole in it that appeared to be plugged with toilet paper. The floors were uneven throughout, with multiple flooring types connected by jagged transitions and no transition strips. The ceiling fan wobbled so severely that it looked as though it might fall. The pantry and stove shown in the online photos were not present. The walls and ceilings had patches of mismatched white paint throughout. The shower did not drain properly because the floor sloped away from the drain, and the water temperature fluctuated between scalding hot and ice cold. Most of the electrical outlets were unusable because they had been painted over. The bed sagged in the middle, and the breakfast bar felt unstable, as though it could collapse if leaned on. At that point, all we could do was laugh and decide to go to the restaurant while we figured out what we wanted to do. On the way there, we noticed signs posted on the pool fence stating that the pool was closed for repairs. Once inside the restaurant, the hostess immediately informed us that the grill was down and only cold food items were available. We were happy to see our favorite bartender, Royce from Basshole, behind the bar, which ended up being the highlight of our trip. We enjoyed some cocktails and cold food, which was actually excellent. After dinner, we spoke with the manager and explained our concerns regarding the closed pool, the restaurant limitations, and the condition of the cabin. She was very apologetic and accommodating. She mentioned that she had not been aware the grill was down. We understand that these issues were largely beyond the control of the on-site management and appeared to be the result of decisions made by the new ownership. She immediately refunded the RV space we had rented for our boat. We decided to give the resort another chance and stay one night. We were told the grill would likely be operational the following day and that the pool might be repaired. With temperatures forecast to reach 102 degrees, both amenities were important factors in our decision to stay. Unfortunately, we got very little sleep. The ceiling fan wobbled and rattled throughout the night, and the wall-mounted air conditioner was extremely loud and had a musty odor. The cabin wasn't necessarily dirty--it was simply very old, stale, and poorly maintained. The overall condition made us uncomfortable. The next morning, we packed our belongings, returned to the office, checked out early, and requested a refund. Once again, the management team was professional, understanding, and accommodating, and they refunded our stay without issue. I want to emphasize that the managers handled the situation as well as they possibly could. Our disappointment lies with the condition of the property and the apparent lack of investment by the new ownership. We work hard for our money and simply could not justify spending approximately $200 per night for accommodations in that condition, especially for a special occasion like our 24th wedding anniversary. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend staying at Lakeshore Resort in its current state. Until significant improvements are made to the cabins and advertised amenities are restored and operational, prospective guests should carefully consider whether the resort offers the value they expect for the price. Just to be clear, we were not refunded for our entire stay. We were charged for one night in a run-down, dilapidated cabin that looked nothing like what was depicted on the website. Your statement that we were "fully refunded" is simply not accurate. Additionally, we were never given a discounted rate, despite your claim that we received one. We paid the full advertised price when we booked our stay.

Falcons, Impalas, Cougars, Rams... you'll hear them all night long from the I-5…read more Being right off I-5 at Shasta Caverns Road is convenient if you want to avoid driving too many miles of narrow, winding, bumpy road. However, you will hear traffic all day and all night long. So, to be honest, it feels more like a really lush and natural rest area. Bailey Cove Campground is situated within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest near Shasta Lake, operated by the Shasta Recreation Company under a special use permit from the U.S. Forest Service. Coordinates: 40.8° N, 122.319° W. Elevation: About 1,082 feet. Each campground has a parking space that fits trailers up to 45 feet ($12 for extra car), picnic table, bear locker, fire pit (w removable grate), potable water, with a little marker that identifies your reservation. The bathrooms were exceptionally clean and nice smelling. The ranger on-site (Bryan) is friendly. Bailey Cove Trail is a 3-mile loop trail that hugs the shoreline, open to hikers and mountain bikers. An adjacent public boat ramp (closed during low lake levels) provides easy access to Shasta Lake, for boating and fishing. Lake Shasta Caverns (separate review) is a 10 minute drive away. There are 7 campsites. I would avoid #1. Even though it has the best access to a small, flat beachy area, it is much too close to the large parking lot and roads to the boat ramp, so it's heavy traffic. #2 and #3 are fine, and perfect for groups because they seem to create one double site. Our spot #2 is just steps from the bear-proof trash can, which is convenient for housekeeping but potentially inconvenient for noise. #3 is closest to a sketchy trails past poison oak to get to a private lakefront beach area. #4 and #5 are probably the best sites if you like seclusion. They dip down below ground level, which might help with noise. #5 has the advantage of having more shade and being closer (but not closest) to the bathroom. #7 is the furthest back, offering less road noise, though I suspect they are subject to the most flashlight light from the campers below walking (maximum 210 steps from Site #2) to the bathroom. I would avoid #6, which is so close to the bathroom it should be renamed #2.

We only stayed for two nights but in the short visit we squeezed in kayaks on the lake, floating down the river, fishing and a short hike. The scenery if absolutely beautiful and the cabin was clean and had all the amenities a family could need...which is nice for anyone wanting the "outdoor experience" without actually sleeping in a hotel tent/outdoors:) We took two trips this summer, one to Hawai'i and second here. The camp ground is a bit run down and some of the spots are quite small and crammed in together whereas some are quite large. Please be aware they also charge you for electricity over and above your camping cost. There are some trees with fairly low branches that hang over the fire out, which in my opinion is a fire hazard. Also, a ton of poison oak around our camp site meant we had to be extra careful how we set up so the dogs couldn't get into it and give it to us. The good: easy access to the lake, nice marina. Great fishing. The dogs loved it.
