Sourdough French Dip and Chicken, Apple, Walnut Salad

First time eating here and glad we did. This is one of those places thats just a secret gem and wow to think I've never been here before is weird. The food is great and very fresh and the bread is spectacular whether you get a sandwich or a bowl. Server was very friendly and helpful. Inside is clean and quiet.

The soup is too die for This is the best soup you're gonna get Even if you get the half and half you are doing yourself a service The sourdough bread bowl is why you come here! Legit best thing you're gonna have and it holds to the same quality as the original in SF Great prices too

Time for an update. Given how long this place has been here, the interior doesn't show it. I was impressed with the lack of scratches and the usual wear and tear you see in a restaurant after a few years, or sometimes after a few months. It's not scuff-free, but it's well-kept. The menu is also adding new and different items. This time I had their grilled cheese with bacon. It was very tasty, although a bit greasy, but that's what you expect from a well grilled grilled-cheese sandwich. We like to sit outside the restaurant in the mall to people-watch. They do have an outside eating area, but it was a little chilly. We've ordered take-out here several times and have rarely been disappointed. (There was one mistake once, but it was not a big deal at the time.) The people who work here are friendly and efficient. You can tell they do a lot of catering as they'll often be stacks or rows of to-go boxes lined up, and that keeps them busy.

Service was ok. I ordered at the kiosk. I only fries and they were blah. Nothing special and I wouldn't go back. This little bag for $5+. Not worth it.

The holiday turkey sandwich was delish! It tasted fresh, and the flavor combination of sweet cranberries, and savory turkey was great however, the crust of the sourdough at the edges of the sandwich was a little tough to eat/chew. The clam chowder in the bread bowl was a hit and an all time favorite.

Didn't want to drive to get food today but this has good reviews and it was recommended on uber eats. Got here pretty fast. Not much to say about service since I didn't go in person and not sure how it is at the actual store so as for as ambiance not sure as well. But the food we got was an Asian citrus chicken which was probably the highlight of the food just because the sweet fruits mixed with the spicy salad dressing was a good contrast. The broccoli cheddar soup was really disappointing. It was so salty I had to stop eating it because it was not enjoyable. The bread bowl itself was good with the butter they pack. And fries could actually use more seasoning.

My first experience with Boudin SF was in San Francisco a few years ago, where I was instantly impressed by their famous sourdough bread bowls filled with delicious soup. I had no idea there were actually a few locations in OC until we took our little one to Discovery Cube and stumbled upon one nearby! We ordered through their kiosk and tried a variety of dishes: chicken pesto sandwich, butternut squash soup in a bread bowl, Little Gem Cobb salad, and a kids' cheese pizza. The real star of the meal was the kids' pizza, our usually picky 3-year-old devoured the entire thing, which almost never happens! He even finished the chocolate chip cookie that came with the meal later in the day. As for the rest of the food, the butternut squash soup was my favorite. Sweet, creamy, and the bread bowl was the perfect chewy vessel. The chicken pesto sandwich was solid. The Cobb salad was fresh and crunchy, no sad wilted lettuce here. Prices were fair, portions were big, and everything tasted good. Now if they'd just open one even closer to me, that'd be perfect. Until then, I'll be back next time we're near Discovery Cube--mostly so my kid can inhale another pizza.

Came here for a quick lunch. Similar to another sandwich place you may be familiar with they do offer a pick 2 which was what I got. The staff appeared to be busy working on orders to go. While dining in I noticed that the place was clean and staff was awesome at doing their jobs as they were on top of their orders! I got my food fairly quickly. My mac and cheese was tasty and warm. While my sandwich was decent in that it could have had more turkey, however the bread was soft and just right! Can't wait to try other options!

We ate what was edible but all this was left behind cause of the burnt taste and the hardness of the crust

Came to celebrate my sons birthday and Valentine's Day and the pizza was very burnt We ate some cause we were hungry but it tasted burnt

Lived in the Bay Area and nice to have a slice of SF in OC. That being said it's good but not like the original. The turtle was a little hard but the 4 cheese pizza my son almost ate it all. Quick service. Place is nice and clean.

Amazing sandwich. 5 out of 5 stars! The chefs kiss. Can't wait to try more. Parking is a bit challenging but it's worth it.

Pick a Pair- Crispy Chicken & Avo Caesar salad & Turkey Avocado sandwich
    Lucy O.

I had a wonderful experience at this Boudin located at the Main Place mall. The restaurant is so clean and the cashier was very helpful. She suggested we choose the pick a pair option and it was a great choice. I picked the crispy chicken and avo caesar salad with the turkey avocado sandwich. Both the salad and sandwich were fresh and delicious! They include plenty of food in the pick a pair option. You can tell that they use high quality bread. It's soft but also hearty. There are plenty of tables and booths inside the restaurant and a few tables outside as well.

There was a wait for us despite coming on a weekday morning, so I can't imagine how long the line gets on the weekends. The bakery is so cute inside and everything is displayed so aesthetically! I wanted to buy them all but we ended up getting the sundried tomato, butter croissant, scallion gochujang, and ube croffle. All of them were so fresh and perfectly crispy. The sun dried tomato one had cheese too and is definitely a great savory option. The gochujang one wasn't as spicy as I expected and was more on the sweeter side, but the scallion flavor was strong and delicious! My favorite was definitely the ube croffle, which was filled with a rich and creamy ube custard. It wasn't overly sweet and was soo good! There were a few things I wanted to try but didn't get a chance to yet, like their blue corn sourdough loaf and their cinnamon roll so I'll definitely be back for more!

I had expected the business to be in a more high volume area, however a benefit of their corner spot was that the parking lot had plenty of spaces. There's no indoor seating, but outdoor tables were set up along the north and east perimeters of the building. I was by myself at this latest visit, and it was close to the end of the day so the inventory was quite depleted. There was no line at all which was not a surprise. The famous Strawberry Croissants and prepackaged items were on refrigerated display to the left when you walked in. As the service counter rounded a corner, there were more fresh baked goods on display before you reached a register. Across from the registers were shelves containing bags of fresh bread products. I bought a Strawberry Croissant, a Sticky Bun, a Ham and Cheese Croissant, and an Apple Croissant. The quality of the pastry dough was very good, and I could see why the Strawberry Croissant was a favorite with the customers. The croissants were light and flakey, and the powdered sugar added a delicate topping to the strawberry version. If I were to rate on just the Strawberry Croissant, then it would be five stars. My overall rating was downgraded because of the customer traffic flow. The lines can be optimized so that if you wanted to buy a six-pack of the Strawberry Croissants and/or anything prepackaged, then a separate queue should be arranged for those customers. The cafeteria trays were of limited use if you were not getting a large number of items. As you advanced in the queue, other products had to be requested from a worker behind the counter and then those were not placed on the tray. Ultimately, I think they can configure the operation to more efficiently handle the higher volume periods of the day.

No one was available to help and periodically she would yell over to see if I was ready to order in a very bad tone. When I asked about the cheesecake selection, she said "you have to wait 30 min." I then asked what flavor it is and she said "pandan pineapple" in an annoyed tone. I asked if there were any other flavors and she said "no because I still need to decorate. You should really come later at night." I'm used to bakeries selling out later in the day but I guess it's opposite here. As if it couldn't get worse, I asked her if there are any coffees she recommended, and she said "viet coffee." I then said viet coffee is usually too strong for me and asked if there were any other recommendations and she doubled down and used a horrible tone to say "I already said I recommend the viet coffee." Therefore I opted to just not order coffee at this time. I ended up still ordering 2 cookies: miso toffee which was too firm and the ube coconut which actually was well balanced and had a nice coconut filling. I really hope they improve their customer service.

We always split our dishes - my wife and I can't eat an entire plate of food. It's not "table service" - they don't come back and check you or help with water or drinks, etc. Whatever you want you must return to the counter. But service at the counter is very friendly and helpful. The ambiance is an outdoor cafe....noisy neighbors, wind when it blows, dogs, all the regular stuff - good seating and umbrellas with some areas naturally shaded...lots of tables relative to the size of the shop. Very friendly staff. Why do my reviews get over 1,000 views every time we visit a new place? We don't know but it seems consistent. We feature very critical reviews - we rate high but include serious critiques. Maybe that's it.
