She is very particular about her vehicles and when I asked about a good Auto Mechanic in the Bothell area, she said to talk to Mark who is now the new owner. Mark is Awesome! His communication via telephone and email is great. I'm very picky on who works on my 2012 Ford F-250 and usually had the Ford dealership work on my truck knowing that they would charge me an arm and a leg for their services. After having some preventative maintenance/repairs done, Mark reviewed the work completed and answered any questions I had. His prices are a lot more reasonable than other places. Mark also called to update me on my repairs and would let me know that he had a few concerns, he also let me know if I needed to repair an issue now or make note and address next time. I found Bothell Way Garage after a thorough search, and I could not be happier with the service and the folks working here! Mark was phenomenal communicating with me about the repairs, where he was at in the process, and what to do regarding the other issues my car was presenting. He was delightfully pleasant, honest and down to earth. Having worked for a mechanic before I comfortably expected my car to be in there most of the day, but they were able to get the work done in the matter of a few hours! (I know not all days at any mechanic's will be like this, but it was a fantastic bonus!) Bob runs a tight shop whose work I trust and have confidence in. I recently brought in our twelve year old car for some fairly major work (leaking head gasket, timing belt replacement, etc...). It's now running like a top again. To keep their work affordable, they charge jobs based on the time it takes them rather than standard rates for jobs. As an example, instead of charging a standard four hours for a job that really only takes most people two hours to complete, they charge two hours. Huge difference. From my experience I've also never known them to recommend unnecessary work, but I also know they will mention work they see that truly needs to be done. This is a stand up auto shop and the best in the area that I've found. Their shop is usually busy, but it's busy because they do high-quality work at reasonable rates. It was the most painless experience I've had at a mechanic, they get the job done very fast, less than 24 business hours before it was done. I would like to apologize in advance for the lengthy review. But I wanted the readers to understand why the rating was given as opposed to general review ratings. Water Assy. & Valve Cover Gasket replacement: (Friday, September 8, 2017) We took our 2004 Toyota Camry LE (103,800 miles approximately) to Bothell Way Garage for repair after having fixed an appointment with Bob Nelson on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 8:00 AM. When we arrived, Brent took the keys and said that the job will be done around mid-day and the estimate would be the same as spoken, i.e., $360 "out-the-door" before a 15% first time customer discount. He noted that the labor charge would be $200. We requested he check the water pump assembly and valve gasket for any leaks and then if he is convinced, proceed to do the repairs. The services done at BWG (Bothell Way Garage): A. Valve Cover Gasket was leaking and so was replaced. B. Water pump assembly replaced since there was a minor leak in the weep hole. No puddle ever under the car. C. Serpentine belt NOT replaced. The technician who serviced my car was Terry Fox (I do not know if he is an ASE Certified Technician: - could not find his certification displayed on the wall of the BWG shop). As I said before, initial estimate given by Bob over the phone was $360 "out-the-door". Since we were first time customers he said he would give a discount of 15% on top $360 - which should have been around $306 "out-the -door". However, he billed us $343.18 - that is $37.18 extra which was mainly due to the labor charge of $240 (instead of the quoted $200). While an increased price of parts would've been understandable, the labor charge should have matched the initial quote . Anyway, I received a call from him at 2:55 PM on September 8, 2017 that the job was done. After we paid the bill, we had a few questions for him on our other Civic and the Camry that was serviced. Then we were on our way- supposedly glad that it was done albeit $37.18 more than the original quote. Our nightmare started as soon as my wife drove a block or two and found that the car was shaking quite a bit and the check engine light was on. So she turned around and came back to the shop and asked for the mechanic who worked on our car. Turns out that the mechanic thought he might have crossed some wiring in the solenoid or maybe the spark plug is to blame. After diagnosing with the OBD-II scan, he said that the O2 sensor was bad. Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor replacement: (Friday, September 8, 2017) I reminded him and Bob that the car never had any sensor problems in 14 years - and that it was fine when we got in for service. He said he does not know why it went bad- and said if you want to fix it will cost $329.99 for the sensor- else if you come back on Monday it would cost you $277. I'm not sure why it would've been cheaper to do the work on Monday. Anyway, we did not want to drive the car with the check engine light on. I requested him that he do the fix today. He did show me the sensor location and I figured it to be upstream A/F ratio sensor located on Bank1, Sensor #1 in front of the catalytic converter. However, he never bothered to share the diagnostic code with me. I figured the code is P0031 DTC. On browsing the internet, I found that the original part was an Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor made by Denso. Anyway, he ordered a DENSO 234-9041 for $329.99 and did not to charge labor on it. So the final cost came to $309.12 for the A/F sensor. Online cost was $113.99. The total cost for us turned out to be: ($343.18 + $309.12) = $652.30 :( I suspect that the Air/Fuel ratio sensor was unwittingly damaged by the mechanic and that I had to pay for it. I also feel disappointed that the serpentine belt was not replaced after another garage and the dealer said it was old and cracked. In a way, I am sad and upset at myself being taken for a ride - even though I was designing and analyzing cars for years together. Maybe it was our bad luck to choose this garage over other choices we had. Learnt the hard way - I would give an overall 2 star to this shop. :( read more

Total rip off. Lied about almost all repairs. Gave us back and undriveable car after I paid ~$2700 for repairs!!! Kept car for months - convertible - left in the rain - with a missing window - lied about storing it inside. Ruined a classic - sold it for parts after. Refused to refund or make it right. All of the online reviews are fake and bought through SureCritic. Owner lives in another state and doesn't care - reached out to him personally. Bob the manager is a professional con artist that will steal your money and return your car in worse shape than you brought it in. Avoid this place like the plague! read more

I couldn't have asked for a better experience working with Mark, the service writer and owner of Bothell Way Garage. Joey, the service writer from Mac Truck Repair in Redmond, referred me. As explained in detail by Mark, the power steering pump on my vehicle "failed catastrophically," causing the serpentine belt to snap, and my engine to overheat due to the water pump being powered by said system. Needless to say, I was incredibly worried that the head gasket blew (which they tested, and it didn't) and also potentially other issues as well. I called in midday on Tuesday, and coordinated my vehicle to be towed to the shop Wednesday. Mark told me a very reasonable timeline, especially considering how busy this shop is, having such a good reputation in the Bothell community, that he'd have a quote and diagnosis by Thursday, and expected to complete the necessary repairs by Friday. I ended up getting a call only a couple hours after my vehicle was towed to the shop on Wednesday to hear what was wrong, with a very reasonable price, which aligned exactly with what ended up being the total bill in the end. Throughout the whole process, Mark was punctual, friendly, and professional. My vehicle, having so many miles on it, had various other problems, and he understood that it wasn't exactly worth it to me to fix everything. Instead, being honest and telling me exactly what was needed to repair the "catastrophic" problems to get my car back on the road. I got a call first thing in the morning on Thursday, a day before he said to expect the repairs to be complete, and picked it up back in complete working order. I can certainly say that businesses like BWG are what give me and others faith that there are repair shops that take utmost care of their customers. I absolutely recommend anybody in the area looking for the best service and reasonable prices to take their vehicles here for repair. And for me personally with this currently being my only car, it means the world to me. read more

I took my Mini Cooper S to Bothell way garage after it started making a weird rattling. They took almost a whole week to call me and tell me that the timing chain was loose and a couple other problems. I went to pick up the car, the owner assured me that it would be fine to drive if I let it warm all the way up and drove it normally. I wasn't even 10 minutes from the shop when I heard a loud pop and lost all power. Took the car to mini of Seattle and they told me that my timing chain has slipped and advanced a couple of notches. read more

Looks like I am the first person to review this kind-of-new business. I am happy to say that it will be a good review. I brought my Dodge Intrepid in here after the check engine light came on. I originally took it to Midas and they told me to take it to a dealer. (Mind you, the sign out front of Midas said, "Engine light on? Bring it in")" Bothell Way Garage diagnosed the problem, nothing serious, just a sensor; fixed it quickly and well, and were patient when I took three days to pay them. They also were polite enough to laugh at my bad jokes. Can't help it, when I get nervous, like maybe facing a big bill I can't pay nervous, I make bad jokes. Plus, they have a cool retro sign which I like. The only drawback was the lack of parking, I had to block the entrance when I left my car. But overall a good place and one I trust. These guys are great, Bob is very professional and straight up. I took two vehicles to them that I thought had major repairs needed. My '98 Jetta needed an oil cooling line gasket and all was good for about $250 with the tow bill. The timing belt in my '92 civic snapped while I was driving. If the valves are stuck in the wrong position when the belt breaks, the piston will smash them into the head. I had no idea if this was the case and Bob could have told me anything at this point, he knew I badly needed the car. He called me a day after dropping it off to tell me they put a belt on it and it ran flawlessly. I picked it up the next day. The bill was $358 with the 15% discount they give for first time customers(Bob let me use it on the civic because it was a bigger job). It could have been $1500 or more. High degree of competency, good explanation of the problem and for me at least the problems were fixed right the first time. As an example, I had my Trailblazer to three different shops over the past year and asked them to find the rattle noise under my vehicle. Despite their best efforts these shops could not find the cause of the noise. I gave up asking for a solution. While Bothell Way Garage mechanic was doing other work on my car they, on their own initiative, discovered rattling noise. They told me in easy to understand terms what was causing the noise. Bob and Bothell Way garage have been nothing but saviors to me . I came in from out of town not knowing anybody in the area who could recommend a shop or mechanic. I got very lucky, not that lucky because my radiator blew up, close to BWG and pulled in. that was over 2 yrs ago and now I entrust them with small jobs and major repair on my fairly new car, Thats the other nice thing about them they can repair new to older cars and not have to worry about their expertise. They have proven to me that they are totally in line with their charges and don't look for things on the car that don't need to be fixed which is such a common practice at other garages.
