I had a very uncomfortable and disrespectful experience at Discount Firearms & Ammo…read more I walked in genuinely interested in purchasing a firearm for personal protection and presented my valid Nevada Real ID. Before anyone even asked what firearm I was interested in or explained the purchasing process, an employee wearing a cap immediately focused on my immigration documentation after hearing my Spanish accent. I placed my Real ID on the counter, but he would not even take or examine it and told me to put it back. Another employee, a man with a very long beard reaching down toward his stomach, then became involved. His tone was loud, confrontational, and disrespectful. At one point he asked whether I was Mexican simply because I spoke Spanish. I told him that speaking Spanish does not mean I am from Mexico and explained that I am from Costa Rica. I understand that federal and Nevada firearm laws may require permanent residents to provide additional immigration information or documentation during an actual firearm transfer. That was not my problem. My problem was the way I was treated. No one calmly explained the requirement. No one even took the time to look at my Real ID, show me a firearm, discuss what I was looking for, or simply say, "You can look today, and when you return with the additional document we can complete the transaction." Instead, the interaction became unnecessarily hostile. Based on the way the conversation changed immediately after they heard my accent and the questions directed at me about being Mexican, I personally felt racially/ethnically profiled. I have rarely experienced this kind of treatment in a business. A firearms store has every right and responsibility to follow the law. Customers also deserve to be treated professionally and respectfully while those requirements are being explained. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here.

A 5-star experience yesterday at American Shooters!…read more I stopped by around noon on a random Monday afternoon to practice and shoot this month's GSSF Indoor League Match. I entered through the gun store side and was immediately greeted. When I walked over to the range side, I was welcomed again right away. I checked in, completed the waiver, and explained that I was there for the GSSF Indoor League Match but wanted to practice a bit first. They took my ID, assigned me a lane, made sure I had eyes and ears on, and sent me out to the range. After about 10-15 minutes, a Range Officer came over, introduced himself as my assigned officiant for the match, and started setting up in the lane next to me. I told him I was still practicing and would need about 20 more minutes. He said that was no problem and just to let him know when I was ready. I shot all five divisions, and the match went off without a hitch. The staff handled everything for me--registration, score sheets, labeling, hanging targets, and setting the different distances. It was a true 5-star chaperoned shooting experience. I really love the "come anytime during the month and we'll run you through the course of fire" model. Can't wait for Round 3 next month!
