Richard makes me look good! Almost everything that I buy, from the couture to H&M, Richard tailors for me so that it fits beautifully. I have been going to Richard for years. His work is impeccable, and he is such a pleasure to be around. There are few people in business that make you feel special, and Richard does. Also, he has taught me about clothes, fabrics, and how to tell the well made from the cheap. I returned from London with a beautiful velvet jacket from a known London designer. Did you know that with velvet, the nap of the velvet should run from top to bottom? But, with my jacket, the velvet nap ran from bottom to top, which Richard explained made it easier to sew and work with, but was a bit of a short cut in an otherwise expensive garment. Just like designer clothes that provide no material in the seams for alterations. Only Richard can take apart a too small designer dress that has no extra fabric in the seams and remake it so that it fits perfectly, or lengthen a too short skirt so that I can wear it to the office. And, with the last job - the too short skirt - I called him and he had it finished earlier for me since I was going to be going by his location. Going to Bostonian Tailor is like stepping back into time, a time where the art of perfectly tailored clothes and real customer service were the norm, and where talk of family and catching up was just as important as picking up your clothes. This is the best tailor in Boston, and Richard has been tailoring the O'Shea family's clothes for three generations, which is what led me there in the first place. I was lucky enough to buy my wedding dress off the rack and only needed a few alterations, but they were key to making sure my dress fit like a glove, which it now does thanks to Richard. When I brought it in he made my Mom and I feel like we were the only customers on his mind and he took his time to make sure I was getting my dress tailored exactly how I wanted and would make me feel my most beautiful; I picked it up this week and it is perfect! My fiance also got his suit tailored and it looks like it was made just for his body. The prices are beyond reasonable (again, like stepping back in time) and you really can't beat the attention and dedication that Richard provides to each and every person who walks through his door. I was lucky enough to witness him helping out others, and they received the same treatment, whether they were getting a new tank top taken in or getting their wedding dress tailored, he treats each article of clothing with the same precision and attention to detail and makes sure each customer is getting exactly what they want. Like everybody else said, he's very honest and told me certain shirts I brought in were not meant to be tailored so only tailored my blazer. It fit perfectly, obviously. The price is on the higher end even for Boston. It was $128 for my light wool suit jacket. It was so worth it, though, because the jacket fits perfectly! This guy is amazing. I wanted to find a tailor who would could do a good job taking in a woman's suit skirt. I decided to check out this place after reading all the great reviews. I went in to his shop and put on the skirt. He told me to tell him exactly what I wanted, and even made some suggestions about the fit. He was very friendly and funny the whole time. When he told me the cost, it seemed a little high but he explained that it would be a big job because he would have to move the zipper on the skirt because of the where it was, as well as take the hem up. Fine by me, I just wanted it to look good even if it cost a little more. Fast forward a week. I go in to pick up the skirt and Richard greets me with a smile and a few jokes. I tried on the skirt and it looked AMAZING. It didnt just look like he took it down a size like I had expected, It looked like it was actually tailored to my body. He really listened to what I wanted and made sure it was well fitted and not too tight or too short (no one wants to be that girl wearing the inapprorpiate suit in the court room). I didnt realize that he doesnt take cards (cash or check only), so when it came time to pay, he walked out with me and even bought me a coffee while I ran to the ATM. I then handed him the cash, and he handed me back $10 as a little discount. I will definetly be back, not only for the amazing work he does but his fantastic and friendly customer service. I was looking for a tailor in the area and my friend suggested Bostonian Tailoring. He used them a few years back and they did a great job. I took my suit in and put it on and Richard took measurements. He was going to shorten my sleeves, shorten and taper my pants. Everything was going fine and then he showed me what it was going to cost....$148. Richard was great but $148 is a little pricey for what he was going to do. I ended up leaving. read more

Richard is the best. When it comes to customer service and expert tailoring, he can't be beat. He is honest and friendly and takes care of his customers like family. I needed a new zipper on my ski jacket and brought it to Richard solely based on the reviews from yelp (they are well deserved). I brought the jacket in on a Wednesday morning, and Richard told me he would have it fixed by close of business Friday, in time for my weekend ski trip. With a blizzard set to hit Boston on Friday, Richard called me Wednesday night and told me he would have the jacket ready the next day! Because of the multiple layers, Velcro patches, and down filling, this was no easy fix, but Richard did an excellent job, and the turnaround was fantastic. There is a new love in my life and his name is Richard! I had a major wardrobe malfunction at work. The entire back of my dress came fantastically unzipped in the middle of a meeting at the office. Let's just say I'm lucky that I had a coat over the dress and that Richard was able to help! I called in advance and he squeezed me in between two other appointments. Last year, I took an expensive designer dress to Richard for alteration. It needed quite a bit of work. Richard charged me $80 up front. I told him I to take his time and that I didn't need it any time soon. He agreed to get in done in three months and did. The work was beautiful. Worth every penny. I took a designer skirt to be shortened as well as three regular tops and a pair of jeans to be hemmed. The cost of the jeans and tops together was less that $70 and the work appeared extremely simple to me (shortening) , The biill was $150. His advice was very useful, however, on drape, length, and fabric. So, in the future, I will take complicated stuff to Richard, as he is not only amazing at tailoring but gives great advice about fit and fabric as well. Simple & cheap stuff will go to a cheaper tailor. read more

Richard is the absolute best. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding this summer and after the first tailor I went to butchered the job, I brought it to Richard in a panic. He was confident he knew just what was needed to make the dress look flawless. I told him the only catch was it had to be done in 3 days. He stepped up and knocked it out of the park. I want to preface this review by saying I normally don't like giving negative reviews. But, given my experience, I cannot in good conscience let anyone go through what I had to go through. If you are like me, you looked online at the reviews because ratings are obviously very important. Obviously Bostonian Tailoring is very highly ranked, so I went and checked it out a few weeks ago. I brought in two pants on a Tuesday and needed some simple alterations and was told that it would be done on next Thursday. Seems a bit of a long wait, but I was like ok. I came back on Thursday, and the pants weren't done. I get it; things happen. So I was like ok, how about I come and pick them up next Thursday. I get there on Thursday, and not only are the pants not done, but he confused my order with someone else. At this point it was getting annoying. He said that he would have my order the next day by 4PM. I arrive at 4:30PM, and he's only started one of my pants. I had to end up coming back after like 20 minutes to finally complete my order. The worst part is, this shows that it wouldn't have taken that long to complete, probably around 30 min or so tops (I mean, I'm not asking to have my pants remade or anything). So apparently my order was not even important enough to spend half a hour doing, even if it was a week after the originally deadline. In short, I suffered the worst tailoring experience and possibly one of the worst service experiences ever. Do not come here. read more

I have had five pairs of dress pants hemmed (one with some additional alterations) at Bostonian Tailoring. The service is excellent and friendly. It's pricey, however. More importantly, each time I went I mentioned that one of my legs is slightly longer than the other and asked him to adjust the hemming to accommodate that, and each time I got back pants whose legs were exactly the same length. If I'm going to pay his prices, I would like the alterations to be done as I asked. read more

Prices are quite high. 2/3rds of the items I had altered were botched and had to be redone elsewhere, costing me time and money. Cash only business.
