I brought in a sport coat to have two buttons moved. I was originally quoted $25, but the price increased to $35 since I needed it within four days--fair enough, as I hadn't given much lead time. I paid in cash upfront as requested and left the jacket. The next day, i found out the event I needed the jacket for was canceled, so I stopped by to pick it up before any work had been done. At that point, Jordan said he would only refund $30 of the $35. When I inquired why, he explained that he had already spent time marking the buttons (60 seconds) and replied: "My time is money. I'm tired of you people coming in here and then changing your mind." I'm not sure who "you people" refers to, but that comment felt unnecessary and off-putting. Sadly, I've been going to him for almost 10 years and he does decent work. Maybe he was just having a bad day. He did ultimately return the full $35, and I left without saying anything. That said, based on this experience, I don't plan to return--and I'd be hesitant to recommend this shop to "my people" (we all kind look alike) or others. read more

Was recommended to Jordan by a friend who had him do some work on reconstructing a blazer for her and she was very pleased with his work. So I finally took the plunge and decided to take a glove that needed a stitch to him. Now, mind you, this isn't just any glove. It's THE glove. The prized possession glove. The beautiful delicate leather glove I got in Venice 4 years ago glove. Anyway, needless to say, these gloves are so special to me that I had waited a good year to take the one needed mending to someone because I was so worried that it would get ruined. Since Jordan came by word of mouth, I decided that it was time. I came in on a Wednesday afternoon. Jordan was measuring someone and offered me a seat to wait. I was out of there in about 10 min and Jordan said the glove could be ready Friday after 3. I came to pick it up on Friday and all was right with the world. I had my favorite fall accessory back. read more

Me and my husband have been his customers for years. He always does excellent, high quality work with reasonable price. Also very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommended. read more

Poor workmanship! RUINED MY ITALIAN LEATHER JACKET!!! I have been to Jordan multiple times (for hemming and simple stuff) and was previously happy with his work. Mark my words, this time is the last time that I patronize his business!! I took in my fav jacket for a simple stitching repair on one of the pockets. When I picked it up, the leather was scratched and discolored and looked horrible (see pics). When I confronted him about it, he claimed that I must have forgotten what my cherished jacket looked like in the two weeks that it took to repair it! He claimed that my (3 year old jacket) was just discoloring because it was old. Clearly, the 'discoloration' is asymmetrical. I had paid in advance and he refused to refund my money, saying that he did the work properly. Excuse me sir, but my peepers beg to differ! When I asked him how to fix it, he said I could redye the leather. I asked him how much it would cost and he totally low-balled a price to make it look like he hadn't ruined my very expensive jacket. If you just want something easy done, like pants hemmed or a shirt taken in, cautiously consider going here. Buyer beware: he DOES NOT STAND BEHIND HIS WORK, and will not fess up to his own mistakes! read more

I've been holding off on this one because I *really* wanted to give him a better review. . . sadly, I think three stars is about as good as I can give. I took some pants to him to have taken in and shortened. He walked up behind me and quickly made a few marks on my butt, spent a bit more time fashioning a break and then announced we were done. I figured that either the lack of time on my butt would either yield amazing results because he's just *that* good or it would just look better. I'm sad to say that the pants just look better. Now I'm not complaining, mind you, they look better! I can wear them now and they look. . . better. But not amazing. not the way I wanted them to look. To that end, three stars. read more

This is the only place I go for tailoring in Boston. Jordan does a great job, and he handles some fairly complex requests. He's very professional. Highly recommended for everything from hemming your favorite jeans to taking in a suit. NB: This business is cash-only. read more

Jordon is a very friendly guy to work with. He is nice and very paitence with his customers. I bought my wedding dress from Priscilla of Boston and wishes I can find a place where they can do great work and reasonable price for the alteration. My wedding dress turn out to be beautiful and it fits me perfectly!!! He's very professional, polite and honest. Highly recommanded him for everything from jeans to wedding dress. read more

I visited Jordan's shop on Newbury street in search of an experienced tailor to alter my wedding dress. The dress didn't fit quite right in the shoulders, and the skirt was way too full. Jordan listened to all my concerns, and spent a lot of time just talking to me about my options. I came back to his shop two weeks later, and was thrilled to see that his alterations had made all the difference! My dress now fits perfectly, and looks beautiful. He did a wonderful job, and his services cost far less than those of most bridal shops. Jordan is a true professional and is also an incredibly friendly guy. read more

Very friendly and helpful. Gave excellent advice. Would certainly recommend going here for any type of consultation.

Brought pants in to be tailored a week before my event & he said he would be able to get it done by 10AM the day of my event. Come in the day of my event at 10AM and he hasnt even started my pants. So upset. Had to wait for him to finish my pants and I was late to the event. Didnt even do a good job. He is quite unfriendly and rude too. read more

I asked for a dress and a blouse to be altered so the v necklines weren't so low. One had so much extra seam it discolored the dress, the other had an unclean seam that bunched irregularly. I asked for him to fix both. He said I was picky on the dress. He said to just wear the blouse a few times and it would look better. In the end, he wouldn't fix either. I find both to be unwearable after his work and they're brand new. Happy ending. I brought them to Saks and explained the situation. The tailor there said the work was sloppy. They're fixing both items complimentary. Thank you Saks! read more

Jordan was my savior last month when I realized that I had less than a week to get a bridesmaid's dress altered (too big in the bust...so depressing). Most of the other places I called said there was no way they could help me out with that short of a T.A.T., no matter how much I was willing to pay. My total bill came to $50, which was reasonable considering the short notice and work involved since he had to move the reinforcement in the bodice in order to take the dress in. Jordan was extremely personable and did a flawless job! read more

Went at 5:30 on Tuesday and no one answered the door or the door even though the sign outside said they're open until 6:00. Luckily best fit tailor was open during stared hours until 6 across the street. Disappointed due to reading good reviews from others read more

Jordan is a friendly guy who gives helpful recommendations. He charged me $12 for hemming jeans, and he's on time every single time. He did a pretty good job tapering my suit jackets too. Man, I'm gonna miss him when I leave boston read more

Jordan is a very friendly guy! I dont know why some people say he's rude. For god sakes, the guys job is to tailor your clothings not brighten your day up. Ive always went to him to tailor my clothing and he always gets the job done and he does an excellent job at a reasonably price. Regardless of what kind of mood he is in, he is a great guy! Everyone has their bad days! read more

Jordan is great. The shop is nothing glamorous, but he really knows how to tailor a suit so it fits.

I now understand what a previous reviewer said when he said "everything came out 'only' better". I've brought jeans to be shortened, shirts to be taken in, darts put in, a blazer to be reshaped in the shoulders. Jordan is a nice person and his stiching/sewing work is great, but he won't fit the alterations to your body. I understand that its easier if the customer can specify what exactly should be done, but come on. Examples: Had two polo shirts taken in at the sides since the body was too big. When I came to pick them up/tried them on, it was obvious that the body fit well but the sleeve/armhole were still too big, resulting in bunched up fabric at the armpit. When I asked about it, he said of course it would look better if he'd fixed that, but it'd have involved detaching the sleeve, altering then re-attaching, that its probably not worth doing for something like a polo. Correct, but you couldn't've told me that your alteration would result in an un-even fit? He thinks everything looks "great" no matter what. I took a blazer I got from Macys on sale here to slim down the shoulders, body and sides since I'm a slim guy even in a 36. The body work looked pretty good, but the shoulders were still a touch big, and the sleeves were still huge. There was also too much fabric around the back of the neck and so the cloth draped in folds around the back. Jordan's response was that "tailoring too much might look funny or too tight and you won't be able to move". Fine, fair point, but for $195 I expect a better job or explanation. Took the blazer to Jack's in Porter and he immediately recognized what I meant about the fit. Fixed it in 1 week (earlier than he'd promised) and for the same price as Jordan (but spent double to fix what Jordan didn't get right). I only wish I'd gone to Jack's first. Jack might be a character sometimes but he's good at what he does. Maybe I should know better about what I want or maybe I'm too much of a perfectionist but "only better" isn't worth my money. If you know what you want exactly then great though - the work itself is good. He does accept credit cards which is nice. read more

i agree with everyone who has said that this place is a good place to go for any type of tailoring...it misses the mark of 5 stars though just because the price is a little expensive for me. i echo others when they describe jordan as very friendly. ive had a few suits tailored here, and ive definitely been satisfied with the work that he has completed. i was so impressed with his work on my suits, that ive had him tailor jeans and shirts of mine that never quite fit right. the result is always impeccable. as i mention, the only downside to this place is that it can be a little expensive. im sure the rates change depending on how much altering that he needs to do, but depending on what needs to be done, i can imagine that the bill can get steep pretty quickly. even with the high prices, if i want something altered by someone reliable, i take my things to jordan. read more

Jordan is great! He's very friendly and does excellent work at very reasonable prices.

Used Jordan the Tailor to alter my Wedding Sherwani, which is a long coat-like garment worn in South Asia. I doubt if he had ever seen a Sherwani before in his life, but he had no problem altering it. He was able to bring up the sleeves and bring in the waist without any problem. Delievered on time. A bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. read more

I had to get the sleeves on a leather jacket hemmed and wanted to maintain the leather tab detail right t the cuffs. Jordan did a great job altering my suit jacket. He had the best price out of all the tailors in the Back Bay area and completed the job on time in 1 week. I had a great experience with Jordan. He saved a pair of jeans that I first brought into a tailer in Cambridge, and they totally butchered them. Jordan was able to save the hem and get them to the right length. He's professional and sweet - the store is not overly fancy, but it gets the job done, and he clearly cares about his customers. Cash only, is the only downside. read more

Gave it 5 stars because I was a very satisfied customer and here is why: I was greeted very nicely when I walked in. I told Jordan what I needed done and it was a simple repair on my suit pants,( (which seems like anyone can do, but i would rather have a professional take care of it). Took four days to wait until the repair was completed and I didn't mind that at all since he was busy and had other customers first, (which is normal for businesses). Cost was $5 to repair, which i was surprised because I thought it would be like $20 or more for a repair like that, so I was very satisfied with the cost. Finally the repair looked great! it's about time i write a review for jordan. i've lived in boston for a little over a year, and i've been to visit jordan no less than 25 times. that, and the five stars you see above should be enough to tip you off to the fact that i'm a fan... but if you're still reading, here are the details: his work is top-notch quality. i've never been disappointed. hem adjustment, cuffs, seats, waistbands, jacket shoulders, jacket sleeves, up, down, in, out, etc. nothing has ever been poorly executed. he was able to correct some poor tailoring i had done in other cities. he's (sometimes brutally) honest. he'll work with you to understand what you want to have done and discuss it with you. if you want something that is a little non-traditional, he'll let you know the traditional route, and confirm that you still want to proceed. (example: i like my jacket sleeves about half an inch shorter than trad; he cautioned me early, but now knows that i'm firm in my commitment.) ...and he knows if something cannot be done, and he'll let you know. for example, if your jacket is just a bit too tight...he'll tell you: "what is this, your younger brother's jacket?" or "maybe the pants will fit you if you lose some pounds." otherwise, he's timely. has never missed a deadline. and sometimes, his prices seem to be a little random. some fabrics will cost you a little more to work with. but this isn't a significant detractor. a few tips: 1. jordan is cash-only, and he appreciates - but does not require - some amount of pre-payment/deposit. 2. don't rush him. give him at least a week to get the work done. he's popular, so his queue is quite long. don't ask him to rush it, unless you've been fortunate enough to develop a relationship and you can cash in some of that personal capital for a favor. 3. visit on a weekday, if possible. weekends are obviously busy. read more

i am just completely dumbfounded. so a few months ago i brought my wedding dress (a running of the brides surprise dress find that i had already hemmed) to Jordan who I chose based on the positive yelps - i am small on top and the dress looked like it needed some taking in in the bust area. Jordan nicely agreed to store the dress for me and told me to come back in late September. So I just went there today, tried it on for him, and he told me it was perfect and didn't need anything other than a push up bra. This man could have charged me $100 or more to take the dress in an inch, but told me that if he put cups in the bust it would stick the whole top out away from my chest and not look as good as if i just got a push up bra and stuffed it a little. Said he didn't want to open a sale just for the sake of opening a sale. A completely honest man with a heart of gold - so refreshing. He gave me a hug, told me the dress was beautiful and sent me on my way. WOW!! I will be back with any tailoring for sure. read more

I took a pair of jeans here to be altered. The woman who wrote up my ticket said they would be ready Friday morning (which was about 5 days after I brought them in). When I went there at 10:30 am on Friday, the jeans had not even been started yet! Worse yet, when I asked him why they weren't already done when my ticket clearly said the date to be picked up, he argued with me! He said their system was that they put a time on the ticket half they keep. I asked, how on earth was I to know that? But no, he did not have the attitude the customer is always right. Alas, I took my jeans across the street to Best Fit who altered them in the time they said and did a fine job for a fine price. Do yourself a favor, don't give a nasty old tailor business when you can give some nice people who do their job right simply across the street. read more

I went to Jordan the Tailor for the first time and would certainly go back there - although he didn't tailor my dress! After I tried it on, he mentioned all the work that it needed (I knew that going in - bad purchase) and how expensive it would be. I came here because he was recommended but this guy is just plain rude. I went in to ask a question about getting a jacket altered and ended up storming out. When I entered he was on the phone and I was holding my garment in my hand. While on the phone, he barked "put it on". He walked over after hanging up and without saying anything or asking me what I needed, he began pinning the jacket in multiple places. When he was finished I asked if he could adjust the garment more and he said "it would be too much work". Given that the work i wanted done seemed to be not possible, I said I needed to think about whether I wanted it done at all. He then went on a tirade about how I wasted his time and said I was just going to look for someone cheap to do it. (This entire interaction was only 5 min). He even tried to charge me for pinning my jacket, which I did not even ask for...he just began doing it so I thought he needed to in order to visualize the work needed. I won't be going back there! read more
