Haven't had a bad experience, so I gotta give them some high stars, but nothing really spectacular either. I will admit that I use them mostly because it's so convenient for me, but have been satisfied. Have done dry cleaning, laundering of shirts, and alterations. Dry cleaning - always comes back clean and mostly on time. Sometimes they claim you dropped it off after you did, which is why it's not back, but usually it'll get back at least after 5pm on the day you expect it. Laundering - have the starch option or not and comes back on a hanger. Alterations - stick to simple alterations only. She freely admits when she can't do it and when she says she can do it, it's come back professional looking and it hasn't fallen apart. When the alteration was on a dress with stretchy material, she admitted she couldn't do it right and referred me to another seamstress. Friendly - I've been there often and they never seem to really recognize me, but they are friendly. She's a heck of a lot more friendly than the man. And the younger guy is also really friendly. I think they do laundry by the pound, but haven't used that before. They only take Cash and Visa/Mastercard I think, so keep your Amex at home... read more

I've always been wary about getting clothes dry cleaned, since most of my clothes aren't ones I'd be happy to replace due to a cleaning mishap. Some of the reviews on Yelp for Beacon Hill Cleaners worried me, but I'm happy to say that I've had nothing but positive experiences with them! It's a little expensive, but for the location and the service, I'm happy to pay the price. Not only is it very close to my apartment and very conveniently located across from the Charles/MGH T stop, but the service is phenomenal! I usually bring in loads of 3-6 dresses or skirts and it takes them about two or three days. Though, the few times I have asked for a quicker turnaround, they were happy to provide same day or next day service. All of my clothes have been perfectly cleaned without any issues. I am a happy customer of Beacon Hill Cleaners for more than a year. I first went there because they are located very close to my apartment. I remember that at first I was surprised for their prices since they looked very reasonable (even more taking into account the location). My next surprise was when I picked up my items: everything looked as brand new! Since then I am their customer; meaning that I drop stuff at least once per week (sometimes twice). Never a bad experience. Excellent service, quick (they have your items ready in 24h), and additionally they are super nice! I think that since I am their customer only in two occasions I had to return something since there was something wrong (and by wrong I mean that they forgot to remove a stain). The best cleaners and tailor in Beacon Hill, hands down. Plus it's an independent family-run business that's really a part of the neighborhood -- not a chain or a franchise. Shirts come back perfectly -- none of the annoying wrinkles around the shoulders and wrists that a lot of places have. Not lightning-fast with the cleaning, though good. But if you need alterations done quickly -- and if you're a frequent customer -- they're done. Same day even. And well. And yes, if she can't do it, she'll tell you. If she can, it'll be perfect. And she can do 95% of what you send her. And no, the "little Chinese lady" as mentioned by another yelper is actually Vietnamese -- she runs the place with her family helping out. And her husband speaks much less English, so he doesn't seem as friendly, but he is. Their two teenagers are super nice, too. It doesn't look fancy like Sarni or Clevergreen, so it will never win Best of Boston -- but it should. read more

I've been here just once for an alteration as it's not in my neighborhood, but I came based on a friends' recommendation. I needed a bridesmaid dress altered quickly; I'd been sent the wrong size and there wasn't time to order a new one and I was flying out for the wedding in a matter of days. The dress was too small and there wasn't a lot of fabric to work with, plus the type of fabric was likely to show the holes from the previous seams, but I was in a bind. The woman I worked with was so helpful and when I told her my time crunch, she said it wasn't a problem and would get it done that day. I came back in later and it was perfect. She'd had to let out several seams to get enough fabric, but it fit and the work was flawless. And she was so nice! I highly recommend. read more

I brought a dress shirt for cleaning. Store has quick turnaround. When I picked up the shirt, there was sticky brown lint on the back portion. I asked the owner about this and he told me this is normal. I asked if he thinks this is acceptable. His response was yes. He would not offer to remove it with a sticky roller, and refused a refund. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME HERE. Not only will you receive horrible service, but you risk your clothes being ruined -- meaning more $$ for new clothes and for additional dry cleaning. I came here for the first time last week. I am new to the area and Beacon Hill Cleaners is the closest cleaners to my new apartment. I work a corporate job, so I rely heavily on good dry cleaning. I brought 13 pieces to Beacon Hill Cleaners, for which I was charged $90. This is fairly cheap for the area. When I picked up my clothes, I was shocked and angry. A white blouse (of over $100 value) had been ruined - newly stained with navy blue splotches all over it. On top of that, ALL of my other blouses, dresses, and skirts were extremely wrinkled, such that I will need to iron each one before I can wear it to work. I went back to request that I kindly receive my money back and had a very hard time with the woman at the front desk. She first suggested that she would fix it, which I declined for obvious reasons. She then said that she couldn't give me any money back because she had already paid the cleaners and this would be money out of her own pocket. Although I sympathize, I also had wasted money out of my own pocket and would have to pay to dry clean the clothes AGAIN and most likely replace the ruined blouse. Finally, I was able to get almost all of my money back. I am stunned that a dry cleaner of this poor quality has stayed in business, especially in this area of the city. I will never bring my clothes back and would strongly recommend that others do the same. It is worth some extra money and extra time to find a good dry cleaners. read more

The worst experience ever. We went there with a very expensive, delicate tie, which needed to be cleaned from food stains. The result was an unrecoverably wrinkled tie and, even though they are friendly, there was no real chance to communicate with the owners. I would not go there again. read more

Terrible customer service, I had money thrown at me because I complained from the fact that they could not remove a stain from my blouse, I now had to go elsewhere. Do not get your drycleaning, or any tailoring of your clothes done at Beacon Hill Cleaners !!! I have a brand new premium designer (expensive) skirt that needed to be taken in at the waist, and when I picked it up, there were gatherings at the place where she sewed, AND short threads hanging. This is a beautiful very high end, premium designer skirt, and she ruined it! I am so mad, I will never ever go there again. The place along the seam where she took it in had sort of a bubbly look, it was bumpy. I brought the skirt back and she redid it, but my skirt still is ruined. I now take my clothing down the street to Clevergreen cleaners. Their drycleaning is a bit more pricey, but the quality and customer service could not be better; they are awesome. Also, this silk got dirty while in their cleaners, so they dry cleaned it again, and it is splotchy. Avoid Beacon Hill Cleaners! read more

Went there for a very simple job: sewing a patch on my scrub top (I am a nursing student). I don't sew very well so I wanted it to look professional. I might as well have done it myself since it came out horrendous. It looks like they sewed it crooked first and then pulled it out to reposition it since you can see the marks from the original job. When I went to pick up my coat the belt was covered in large RUST COLORED STATINS. I requested my money back for the cost of the cleaning for me to bring it somewhere else- She refused.
