My fiancé brought one of my favorite dresses to this shop for a zipper repair. The day he picked it up I promptly returned to show Magda that the repair had serious issues. The dress was actually now shorter on one side because of the sloppy stitching and gave it a waveform appearance even when worn. The lines were uneven, it was extremely difficult to get this new large visible zipper to even move correctly although it was converted to a visible zipper to make it easier. Despite approaching openly and calmly for a refund, Magda was extremely cruel, immediately angry, and shouting at me. She kept shouting that there was absolutely nothing wrong AND that she could fix it....I was stunned to my core. I told her I wasn't comfortable proceeding with her. She said she could not give me a refund because she had no money to give, and told me to return in two days (all while shouting to also leave her shop). A kind patron felt very sorry for me and I was grateful this was witnessed. I returned with my fiancé and we were fortunately able to receive a refund via check. Maybe she is only comfortable shouting at women. We have supported this shop for 7 years, this will be our last time. You shouldn't treat people this way, it is shameful and unkind. read more

Wildly unprofessional. Absolutely do not come to this establishment. I came to get a simple hemming for my leggings on Tuesday and I was quoted $30. I was told it would be ready by Thursday since I was out of town starting Friday for the weekend, which was communicated to the lady when I dropped off my leggings. Come Thursday at 12 pm and no one is in the shop (door was locked) and no one was answering the phone. I called again at 1 PM, and the same lady says it's not ready today and that I'd need to come back at a later time. I voiced my frustrations to which she said that I could get it altered elsewhere. Problem was the leggings weren't even at the shop since they were in the process of getting altered so I wouldn't be able to pick it up until Tuesday after the holiday on Monday. I was confused even further and questioned why she would miscommunicate when to pick up to which she asked me "what are you going to do, choke me?" Had to pick up the following week, hemming is uneven and not worth the price. Please go elsewhere. read more

I had asked for alterations on some trousers--just needed the inseam taken in. The lady said I could expect to get my pants back in a week. But when I came back to pick them up, she said they weren't yet finished and to come back in 2 days. Lo behold, after those two days, she finally admitted they hadn't been worked on at all. I asked to just take them back as-is to find another tailor service but she said my trousers were currently out of shop and she would just call me when they got delivered back to her. This was frustrating since I'd been left hanging for 2 weeks just trying to get back my unaltered pants. When she finally called, I came back to get the pants and they had been altered even though i had asked for them to be returned as-is prior. Very disappointed and the pants still don't fit. She at least gave me a steep discount on the alterations that I had asked not to have taken place. read more

Brought a bridesmaid dress to be altered 1 mo. early (plenty of time) & was told they'd absolutely have it done in time. They went AWOL, didn't show up to work for 3 weeks, didn't leave a note, nobody answered the phone. I had to spend $500 to overnight a new dress & pay rush alterations to have anything to wear. They never responded to any of my calls or the note I left on the door. They refused to refund me for the dress they held hostage & told me it "wasn't their fault I decided to spend $500 to get a new dress" when it was ENTIRELY their fault. Never in my life been to a more unreliable business with worse customer service. Do yourself a favor & go to any of the other tailors on Charles St who you can genuinely rely on and know how to run a legitimate business. read more

Very poor customer service, and they did not take Covid seriously during the pandemic. You are better off taking your business to any of the other myriad dry cleaners or tailors in the area. Also, their hours are baffling. I have stopped by at 10 in the morning on a weekday when they were supposed to be open and they were randomly closed, no sign in the window or anything. I brought in a pair of pants that had a bit too long of a hem that I bought the same day as the event I was planning on wearing them to. I went in to ask if she was able to do anything so that they wouldn't be dragging on the ground because I knew the turn around would be tight. I finally found a dry cleaner that doesn't ruin my custom linen shirts and custom dress shirts. I tired about 6 different cleaners in the area, and grew frustrated with creases in my collars, creases in strange places on the front of my shirts. One cleaner washed my shirts in the wrong temperature and caused colors to bleed and stitching to shrink. I had to replace the shirts. I have been using Crown for six weeks and they have delivered perfectly cleaned and pressed linen shirts...not wrinkle or crease anywhere. The collars are perfect. They are the go to place for cleaning and pressing bespoke suits as well. I've had a few other cleaners in the area use the wrong temperature causing stitching on suits to shrink, causing wrinkles. I've never had an issue with Crown The customer service is always friendly. They hand press my shirts. Crown even salvaged my daughter's formal dress, after my livers crushes it box. They pressed and reshaped all the pleats. Coming from NYC I can be a little spoiled when it comes to dry cleaning and pressing and they always exceed my expectations. read more

Really disappointed in the alterations I had done here. The hem fell out of the bottom of my dress. I could probably have just fixed it myself, but it was a nice dress from Anthropologie and I didn't want to risk screwing it up. But, the work I would have done myself would no doubt be as good or better than what I received from Crown. The original hem, part of which was still intact, was stitched under the dress, so it didn't show on the outside. The dress is cream colored with a navy print. Yet, for some reason, the person hemming my dress thought using olive green thread would be a good idea. What??? So, not only did they fail to make a nice, professional invisible hem-- they used a completely wacky color that stands out. Poor choice. Wish I hadn't taken my dress here. read more

I have been using Crown Cleaners for years and years. They do a brilliant job in alterations and dry cleaning, of course. I had a white leather jacket that developed mold that left permanent discoloration. It was too obvious to be ignored. Rodhi dyed it purple for me and it is just fabulous. This place is awesome. I am a runner for various venues around Boston at times. One thing that always comes up is dry cleaning being done the same day. Has to be done the same day because these people are leaving the night of or early in the morning. It's impossible to find same day dry cleaning last min in Boston. I brought my client's clothes here 4 days in a row and no problem at all. It was pleasant to go in and see them everyday. The woman is very helpful and her daughter is super sweet. read more

I planned to wear my grandmother's 30th anniversary dress to my wedding welcome party and needed to have it cleaned. When I dropped it off, the person working nonchalantly accepted the dress and advised pick up in a few days. When my sister picked up the dress for me, I was completely floored when she handed me a receipt for $350!! While I had expected more than a typical cleaning fee for the long lace overlay dress, there was no indication the cleaning would be such an astronomical amount. In honesty, had I known, I just wouldn't have had it cleaned. No alterations or repairs were done. For such a high amount, I felt as though Crown should have advised or at least estimated the fee before acceptance. After the wedding, I went by Crown with the receipt to ask why the cost was so high. A woman dismissively told me she didn't know with an oh well attitude, and when I asked about follow up or speaking to someone who did know, she just told me to maybe come back another day. I still feel very frustrated and misled, and with so many other cleaners in the neighborhood, won't use Crown again. read more

When I went to pick it up (6 weeks later mind you as they kept coming up with excuses why it wasn't clean) The price was double what they quoted me but since I did not get the quote in writing I had to pay to get the rug which only cost 15 dollars more new. Do not go here for any monogram or embroidery work! They outsource the work and do not notate instructions very well. I not only received my item back with incorrect font, size, and location but also was told the item would be ready in 10 days when in fact it took 18 days. I did call at the 10 day mark to follow-up and management didn't know when the item would be ready. $40 down the drain for just the monogram (expensive for a 6 letter name) and a ruined item that I must now replace. Appalling customer service. I dropped two pairs of trousers and two blouses off at Crown Cleaners on a Wednesday after calling and speaking to an employee who assured my my items would be finished by 10 am on Friday. Since I was already dropping things off here, I brought along two bags of items for wash dry fold. Upon arriving I told the woman working that I had previously called and was dropping my shirts and pants off to be pressed by Friday morning at 10 am, she recognized my call and said of course, that those items would be ready for pick up by 10 am Friday. In addition I explained I wanted to drop off items for wash dry fold but there was no rush on those items. Come Friday morning I head to pick up my things at 10:10, before heading to work. When I arrive I'm greeted by a different woman, I explain to her I'm there to pick up my pressed items and see my wash dry fold waiting on the floor. The woman hands me my shirts and asks if I had pants to go along with them, to which I respond yes- two pairs. The woman then proceeds to tell me that my pants aren't there and gives me attitude when I say they were supposed to be there at 10 am, she says "oh yeah and what time is it?" to which I tell her it's 10:10. She then tries telling me that maybe they can just drop them off at my place of work, where I'm scheduled for at 11. She can't tell me where my pants are or how long until they'll arrive so I leave and have to spend $80 on a new pair of pants for work. Now, two weeks later I went to get my pants and both of the women are in the store. I remind them of who I was and the situation and agree that I'll pay for my other services but I won't be paying for the pants, since their failure to follow through with their agreement cost me $80 (the price of new pants). After saying so, the younger woman starts telling me they can't do that, they'll give me a discount but I just can't not pay, meanwhile the older woman starts telling me this is all my fault because I didn't own enough pairs of pants. I tried to reason with the younger woman and tell her that I appreciate the other services and I'm happy to pay for them however they caused me a major inconvenience that cost me a significant sum of money. The women both continue to tell me no and put the blame on me for not owning more pants. At this point I'm obviously upset and I try to tell them again that had they not agreed that the items would be done at 10 am Friday, this would not be an issue. Had they never agreed to this, I would've gone elsewhere, no problem. The younger woman then goes "don't get so upset, there are bigger issues, people are dying." She repeats this statement several times to me. I try once more and explain that had they not agreed to have the items done by a certain time, there would not be an issue, however as a result of their failure to do so, I was out $80 and they couldn't careless. At this point it's obvious they see me as no more than some annoying 20 year old and they couldn't care less if I gave them business again. The original bill was $85 and the younger woman gave me a discount of $5, bringing my bill to $80, the same amount that I had to spend on new pants due to their mistake. I'm not one to write reviews, typically when an issue arises between myself and a business, proper management and staff are able to handle things just fine, however that was not the case here. The unprofessional nature and pure rudeness that I experienced is unacceptable, and mind you, I've worked in customer for six years- this is simply not how you treat people. read more

I have never written a Yelp review before and took the time today to make an account just to describe how AWFUL this woman is. I took in a dress to get it hemmed by about 3 inches and she charged me A HUNDRED DOLLARS to hem the dress which only had two layers!!! I should have known because she kept hawing and refusing to answer when I asked for an estimate upon dropping it off, but I thought I could trust her to be a decent person for such a simple task. She was so rude and awful to me when I asked about the price and threw the leftover fabric at me shouting that I should measure it myself and see what costs $100. She threatened to destroy my dress when I wouldn't pay and I finally had to pay for it just to get away from her. This is the worst tailor I have ever been to, DO NOT TRUST HER. She's scheming and cruel and will RIP YOU OFF! Go anywhere else, even if it costs more it would be worth it not to have to deal with this disgusting, ruthless rip off of a tailor. I brought a stretch knit jersey dress that I needed hemmed and the bust brought in for alteration last week. I'm definitely no expert, but I know a few things about sewing. The hemming was an easy job that probably took about 20 minutes. The other alteration could be done the correct and more difficult way by taking apart the dress at the lateral seams or could be done the cheap, fast way but just bunching together the extra fabric and sewing it down. I should have been suspicious when they didn't give me a price estimate when I dropped it off. On picking it up, they tried to charge me $75. When I called them out for bad workmanship (they did the alterations the cheap, poor quality way), the price magically went down to $50, which is still absurdly overpriced given that work took no more than 1hr. In brief, DO NOT BRING YOUR BUSINESS HERE. THEY DO BAD QUALITY WORK AND CHARGE OFFENSIVELY HIGH PRICES. read more

I've been to this place a few times. The first few times the alterations were ok. Not perfect but good enough for bridesmaid dresses. Most recently I brought a shift dress and suit jacket. The job was late, as usual, and horrible. The jacket sleeves are puckered and poor quality where they were shortened. The dress was ruined. The sowing was horrible. The dress looks so bad after 85$ of alterations that I need to bring it to a new store. Response when I complained was "I'm sick, leave me alone" after much yelling and harassment. If you have anything you really care about do not have it altered here. They do what they want, don't care what the customer thinks, do it on their own schedule, and will not admit they did anything wrong. Must be hard to be perfect like these ladies. read more

My one complaint about this place is how much they charge for (goose) down items. I have had my comforter dry cleaned there and paid about $30 each time. DO NOT GO HERE. My bridesmaids skirt for my sisters wedding was COMPLETELY RUINED at the hands of these horrible women. They could not have been nicer when I went to give my skirt for the standard hem alteration. They charged me $95 for a standard 3-layer tulle skirt, which is outrageous, but I figured they will do an amazing job-- this was not the case AT ALL. My skirt was all different lengths, completely tattered, and diagonal rather than straight on each layer. When I went back to show them how they had trashed my $230 skirt, they were completely unapologetic and pretended like there was nothing wrong with it. They made me come back to try on the skirt in front of their tailor as per "their policy" (which they didn't mention until a day later when I called to check when my refund would go through). They never submitted the refund, claiming the daughter is the only one who can work the register. I had to file a claim with my bank just to get the ridiculous charge of $95 back for the standard hem that they completely and utterly BOTCHED. I was forced to buy a new skirt and luckily found a much better tailor who is amazing (All Fit Tailor on Newbury Street). I am out $230 dollars and more than 12hrs of my time dealing with this and the only reason I am even getting the $95 back is because I spent an hour on the phone filing a claim with my bank. OMG!!!! This place SAVED my life!! Here's the story: My friend is getting married TODAY (6/18/16). I haven't had the time to get my bridesmaid dress altered to my height (thank goodness it fit everywhere else!!!). Let me preface this with I started a new job and the hours are much longer than my previous employer ( not complaining!!!) Crown cleaners took my dress yesterday on SHORT notice and altered it perfectly!! Now as I'm rushing to get to the destination to meet the bride and the rest of the bridal party I'm soooooo happy with the way the dress length fits PERFECTLY! I had to pay a little extra for the rush but it was WELL WORTH every penny! And they are open EARLY!! I was able to get to all of my other destinations because the seamstress was very quick and efficient. Thank you so much!!! I will definitely be going back!! After a terrible experience with City Dry Cleaners, I brought two items here, a white dress and a sweater. The dress had a hole, and had been sitting, unwashed, at City Dry cleaners since last July. It smelled like smoke and my hopes for getting any stains out were faint. They not only fixed the hole and got the stains out, they did it in 3 days. Ditto with the sweater. AND they were nice. The team at Crown worked MAGIC on my bridesmaids dress. A very long ordeal landed me with the wrong size from the manufacturer, and it was literally 2 inches too small across my back. Somehow the team at Crown found a way to rebuild the entire back of the dress so that it fit me perfectly and you can't even tell it had any alterations. I have no idea what sorcery they used to get this done but it was AWESOME. I would highly recommend for tricky alterations! read more

Called the police on her because they thought she was using someone else's credit card which was mine, although only called after they accepted the payment. I used went to Crown Cleaners for my rehearsal dinner dress for my wedding and also had them make me a custom shawl to wear with my wedding dress. They did an amazing job with the hem, and helped me figure out exactly what it should look like when I was unsure what I wanted. The shawl they made was custom made to order and went with my dress exactly. I would highly recommend this place for any type of alteration that you are looking to do. read more
