This is my first ever yelp review, I am not one to complain, however, this has to be the worst tailor of all time. The first time I went to franks instead of tapering the pants from the calf area down they chopped my pants into 3/4 pants. The second time I went back, months later in attempt to allow them to remedy my opinion of them, they messed up again. Instead of following the measurements the took when I tried on the pants, they called me and said that they took the liberty to "do what they thought was best" because apparently the measurements "didn't make sense". Turns out the measurements were right and the pants yet again did not fit. Not to mention the prices are outrageous and they take forever. Worst tailor in the city stay tf away. read more

I strongly, strongly recommend you go to him when you're ready to move up from entry-level suits into something a little sharper. Spoke with Bill over the phone about getting a TH suit tailored, and while he answered all my questions he also recommended checking out some of his suits when I went in. Sure enough, the price was comparable to what I had just ordered and the quality was significantly better (100% wool, made in the US). I'm a college student, so rather new to suit shopping, but Bill was very helpful the whole time with styling advice and general information about buying a suit. I don't know a lot about clothes or fashion, it's true. The day I realized that I shouldn't wear t-shirts that are several sizes too big was a huge day for me. I have more t-shirts with robots on them than I have dress pants. So, needless to say, I had never been to a tailor before I stepped through Frank's door. I had just purchased a suit for my upcoming wedding, and I knew it had to be taken in, because I am a tiny little man, and suit makers do not make suits in my size to purchase off the rack. However, I had managed to find a suit at Macy's that, I thought, fit pretty well. The pants needed to be hemmed, the jacket taken in a bit, but otherwise, it fit remarkably well. I brought it in to Frank expecting to not need to do too much. Frank, first of all, was great. He was friendly and fun, and I never felt awkward about anything, despite my being a generally awkward person with personal space issues. I could tell, once he was finished marking everything up, that the suit was going to look a lot better when he was done. Then, he asked me a question: "Do you see that gap there?" he asked, pointing at my lapel. "Yes," I thought, "I can see a bit of a gap between the jacket lapel and my chest, but that's not really that big of a de--ohhh..." That "ohhh" is the moment that he reached up behind my collar, pinched something, and I suddenly understood. I understood what a suit is supposed to look like. I understood what suit makers do for models before a photo shoot to make them look the way that they do. I understood The Suit. All of those revelations happened in a couple of seconds. Suddenly, he let go of the collar, and something strange happened. The suit that, just a few seconds before he grabbed it, I thought fit pretty well, looked terrible. It fit exactly the same way it had before he performed his magical collar voodoo, but now, it was the worst piece of crap anyone had ever put on their body. This so-called "suit" might as well have been a deer hide held together with bubble tape. People have survived train crashes and walked away with their clothes looking better than this suit. Whatever Frank had just done to this suit for those couple of seconds, it needed to be done permanently. I couldn't be seen in public wearing this hideous abomination of a suit that I once mistakenly believed looked pretty good. When we finished and I got to the counter, I was a little nervous. Having never been to a tailor before, I didn't know what it would cost. I had seen in reviews of other places that people had paid like $150 for some basic alterations of a jacket and pants. He was doing basic alterations on the pants, jacket and vest, plus I knew the fairy dust he was going to sprinkle on the collar was going to cost extra, but he had told me I didn't have to do it. My mind started doing calculations to decide what was acceptable. What if he said $200? Would I do it? That would almost be the cost of the suit in the first place. Then again, without the expensive collar magic, I had a suit that seemed to almost not be wearable now that I had seen what it could look like. I guess if it was that much I would just do it. Then he said the price. "$89." "For everything?" I asked. I thought maybe he meant just for the collar, but no, this was for everything. $89 was the difference between looking like I just woke up under the Garment District's Dollar-A-Pound pile and grabbed whatever I could find, and looking like I had just walked out of a GQ photo shoot. "Oh! Yes, yes, do the collar thing," I told him. $89 and just a few days later (a day earlier than the expected date, which was already given top priority due to my very quickly approaching wedding), and I had a suit which looked amazing and fit perfectly. What more could I want? Honestly, the only thing that makes me sad about going to Frank's is that I can't quite afford to bring all of my clothes here to be altered. read more

After trying about 3,529 downtown tailors, I finally found Frank's. Now, don't be afraid of the creepy stairwell leading up to this place. I was. Matter of fact, don't be afraid of the aged, dusty storeroom, either. I was. Once you're over all the creepy stuff, you'll meet Frank's son (I think), or, if you're lucky enough, Frank. Nice guys. Both of them will try to sell you some suits when you drop off your tailoring. Listen to them. I rejected their advances for a year until I realized that they actually have the best suits for the best prices (250 and up - with tailoring included). Nice Italian cuts (contemporary and classic) and makes. I now buy all of my suits from Frank's rather than any other tailor or department store. And, of course, they're solid on the tailoring end, too; their mainstay. Every time, my stuff comes out perfect: crisp lines, flawless seems, and symmetrical cuts. And, this is on different types of suits and cuts. They just get it done. Period. Ladies - I see you in here, too, with your slacks and suits and even jeans (keeping the original hem). So, you shouldn't be afraid here, either. Bottom-line is that I trust these guys. He greeted me with smiles, although he informed me that he did not do alterations on really fine materials (like my dress) due to his machines. Without any reservation, I can say this is the best place to buy affordable high-quality men's suits in Greater Boston. Nary a cheaply made suit to be found, and yet their prices, including tailoring, match what you'd find at Men's Warehouse and other places that peddle mostly cheap Chinese knock-off suits. Believe me it is a difference you can see and feel: A good suit can make or break the man. My go-to for tailoring needs. This is a family-run business. I have come here for pants repair (my buffet adventures caught up to me whilst I was squatting), as well shirt and suit alterations. They do an excellent job in a timely matter. They were also honest and informative in describing what my options were and how the clothing would turn out. Economically, they are affordable (much more so than Bostonian tailoring), and also accept credit cards. I have not purchased a suit from them, but I believe they are in the $300-400 range and come with free alterations. I was in need of a new suit since my previous suit has worn out (and I've put on some extra weight). I found Frank's by accident (by browsing Yelp, actually) and decided I would give him a try. Not a fan of Jos A Bank's anymore nor Men's Warehouse, I was looking down the barrel of a $800 suit at Nordstrom's that I would need tailored. To avoid that, I wandered over to Downtown Crossing one Saturday morning. The store was smaller than I'd expected but Frank greeted me very politely, shaking my hand as we exchanged names, and promptly found my size. We joked back and forth about having difficulty finding sizes since we both enjoy food so much, but he pulled out three amazing suits: one an American made plain charcoal, lightweight wool suit and two Italian suits, one with a faint pinstripe and the other "black on black", black super 120s with faint black lined texture. Each was priced close to $400 a piece, so I was a little nervous; then again, worst case scenario I bought two for the price of what I was thinking of buying at Nordstrom. After trying each on two or three times I settled on the black on black Italian and the charcoal American. Frank rang me up and charged me $297 for each with alterations included. I paid cash, so that might have saved me the difference, as other people have mentioned. My suits were ready the following Saturday and fit really well. Frank had suggested cuffing the Italian, which I was against at first because I don't think cuffed pants flatter me, but he convinced me and these pants look great. While there I was browsing his topcoats since mine has grown a little long in the tooth, and he showed me a really comfortable wool/cashmere coat but didn't have my size. He said he would order two sizes and I could come back to try them on. I went back with my sister to get her opinion but he could only find one of the coats he had ordered, and it was the larger coat. Not to fear: he marked it up and actually cut down the coat to be a smaller size. While he was filling out paperwork I noticed a jacket hanging on display, a cashmere blazer. I tried it on and it was a perfect fit, but my sister wouldn't stop giving me the evil eye until I took it off. I couldn't help but ask about it and Frank checked it out and said I could have it for $140 if I wanted. Again, the evil eye came out so I backed down, but man, for a 100% cashmere blazer that's a steal. I went back a week later, this past Saturday, to pick up the coat, and as expected it was a great fit. It's perfect over a suit and isn't too bulky if I'm only wearing a polo. Price for the coat? $212 including tax. Again, the topcoats at Nordstrom I was looking at Started around $495. Big thank you to Frank and his son, who called me to confirm the topcoat order and who let me know my suits were ready. I recommended Frank's to my brother in law who's eager to see for himself because he hates dealing with Jos A Bank. I wore the black on black Italian out for the first time the night I picked up my topcoat for a birthday dinner at Top of the Hub, which I'll also be reviewing. If you need a suit, or coat, or alterations, I can't recommend highly enough Frank's Tailoring, across the street from the Park Street T stop. This place was recommended to me by my CEO. He sure knows his suits, since he owns 60+. 1. Tailoring job they do is superb! Prices for the service are also very very reasonable. (EDIT 8/8/08 - they almost DOUBLED their prices and Frank did not even bother to tell me that before he took my clothes for alteration. I've tried other tailoring places 'Kirkland Dry Cleaning & Tailoring' & 'Tuttles' etc...and was very disappointed Tuttles was sloppy AND took 2 weeks. Kirkland was sloppy, took 2 weeks, hem fell out after 2 wears AND it cost me 35 bucks for two pairs of pants to be hemmed. (Damn these short LEGS!) So I vowed to save time and money and starting hemming them myself... ...until....my mother starting making fun of my lack of sewing ability and said I looked like a hobo (it really wasn't that bad! But you could see the stitching.) I knew my options were either I shopped at the short girl sections...OR I invest in a good tailor. After reading some other online reviews for Frank's I decided to give it a try. Walked up the sketchy stairs, dropped off my 2 ladies trousers and I'm assuming it was Frank who took care of me. I dropped it off on thursday and he said they would be ready the following Friday.. Next Thursday, I was getting anxious so I dropped in anyway and they were INDEED finished and ready for me to pick up. Only cost me 28 bucks, and my pants are SNAZZY! Perfect length, all i had to do was put pin in at home and bring them in. You do have the option to put them on in a dressing room inside the shop and he will tailor them for you with fabric chalk. But as a female, I didn't feel like taking my pants off around strange men...that didn't involve alcohol and a cheap line anyway. Either way...rather than praying for longer legs, I will continue to have Frank be my tailor. They front pleat ALL PANTS. So if you don't want it, say something first. One thing I learned about fashion--you need to wear the outfit, not let the outfit wear you. The key to having outfits fit you is to get it tailored. I, being curvy/rotund in certain places, have a difficult time finding clothing that fits well, so tailoring is a great investment to look into. When you have well-fitting clothes, you feel so much better, you look better, and you exude more confidence. You feel like a rock star. I'm at the point of grad school where we are going on job interviews and I needed to get a suit. I lucked out and found some pieces I liked at the mall for a great discount (since it was after Thanksgiving). The suit jacket, however, had sleeves that were too long for my *ehem* petite frame. I researched online for same-day alterations around Boston and saw some places in the Downtown area. I called Frank's Custom Tailoring early to inquire whether they will be able to do a same-day alteration on the suit jacket. They mentioned they weren't too busy that morning and I was glad to find out that they were able to help me in this time-sensitive challenge (I have an interview tomorrow and I bought this suit yesterday). We were able to discuss possible obstacles with the construction/deconstruction of the jacket, projected finish time, and estimated cost; they gave me the green light to bring it in. Located on the 2nd floor of the building across from Park Street Station, Frank's Custom Tailoring has a very convenient location. I walked in and the place was also covered wall-to-wall with many men's suits for sale (I just wish they also carried women's suits!). This business have been around, you can tell, for a hella long time. I dropped off my jacket and just walked around downtown, anticipating the call about the finished alteration. They were able to finish the job much earlier than projected, which gave me a few extra hours to just relax and stop thinking about this suit. I received all sorts of good advice as well with future suit-shopping. The price was very reasonable for a same-day/rush job. They wished me good luck on my interview. I hope I get the job so I can bring more suits and garments for alterations at Frank's. read more

I have had a few pairs of pants hemmed here, and they did a great job on them, but this review is about an old suit I had tailored. I brought in a old suit of mine that was size 36s and was huge on me, when I brought it in they said they would do their best and told me it would pretty pricey. They quoted me just over a hundred to have the jacket shortened, the sleeve shortened, the waist of the jacket taken in, narrowing the pants, pretty much redoing the whole suit over. I thought the price was very reasonable. I also told them I needed it in about two weeks, and they told me that was not a problem. Fast forward to pickup. I went in to pick it up and it fit perfectly. They did a fantastic job, taking a suit that looked like a trash bag on me and making look like it was custom. Next time I am in the market for a new suit, I will absolutely be going here. read more

So I went to zip up my pants after a restroom break at work and of course the zipper comes off my pants. After 20 minutes of unsuccessfully trying to get the zipper on I ask someone to get me some safety pins, pin the fly together, and walk a few blocks to Frank's. Since they have a tailor on site, they immediately took my pants, (while I sat in a dressing room) sewed on a new zipper and then I was on my way. I've bought suits and sport coats from Frank's for a decade plus and their suits, tailoring, and service have always been fantastic, but I figured this deserved a shout out for A+ emergency service. read more

I've been bringing suits to Franks since I lived in Raynham.
