I bought my mattress about two years ago because I was having back pain from my previous mattress, which was old and had a dent. I went in hoping to finally fix that problem -- but unfortunately, I ended up with the exact same issue again. Within the first five days of using the new mattress, I noticed a dent forming on the side I sleep on. Five days -- that's unbelievable. I contacted the company by phone and email, and they even sent someone to my home to inspect it. Their conclusion? They blamed a small crack in my bed frame for the dent and refused to do anything. I paid nearly $1,000 for this mattress, and that was the response. For the past two years, I've been sleeping on that dent and dealing with the back pain it causes. Today, I finally reached my limit and decided to leave this review. To be fair, the salesperson at the store was incredibly friendly and even offered a discount. But that discount seems to come with a catch -- it affects how your warranty is honored and limits your ability to exchange or replace a defective mattress. The bed we got was hard as a rock, extremely firm. we didn't order a firm. we were told it would soften up in 3 months. It never did. It's been more than a year. we basically trusted the company to give us what they said we would get. they didn't. there is a no return policy. very bad decision on our part. read more

I bought my bed frame and mattress 3 years ago and both are holding up great! I forget exactly what the mattress is called, but I know it's a firm Therapedic. I had originally debated getting one of those fancy online mattresses, like a Casper or Leesa, but I'm so glad I went with this--it was less than half the price and still amazing quality. For the first two months the mattress felt slightly slanted, like my head was higher up than the rest of my body, but that issue went away with use. Now it's just fabulous, and the bed has survived two different moves! The movers even commented on how sturdy and well-made it is. I guess my only regret is not getting a fabric headboard. The corners of my wooden frame are pointy, but I'm sure there are ones at the store that aren't like that--there's a huge selection. Just something to watch out for when you're choosing! Also, shout-out to the blonde woman on the sales floor who helped me out! She was super attentive, funny and informative. I really wanted a mattress that wouldn't move when my boyfriend got out of bed, so we conducted experiments on each bed where I would pretend to sleep and she would bounce up and down next to me on the mattress to see if I could feel it (I couldn't!). Stole from me. Boston Bed on Commonwealth-- ALL SALES ARE FINAL even if the bedding is damaged. Because the mattresses' plastic wrapping had opened up a bit on the end and because they use package tape to seal that open end, dirt from their truck or from the store stuck to the end of the mattress leaving black sticky streak marks on the mattress. It's also UNSANITARY. NO MONEY back even if the item is returned. The company has the black marks cleaned and then resells the mattress. read more

They were nice. They delivered the futon frame and mattress that I had bought on time. Then I discovered that converting the frame into a bed was much harder than advertised. I suggested to them that they take back the (brand-new) frame, if I bought a smaller frame AND a less heavy mattress from them. (I understand they can't take a mattress back once it's out of the package.) They said no, they couldn't do. I just bought $1000 worth of stuff from them. I think it's not right for them to refuse to take a brand-new frame back within a day of delivery. I will probably try to sell the frame and mattress privately, no doubt at a steep loss (if I can do it). Then I'll buy a new futon frame and mattress, but of course from a different store. If you buy a futon frame and mattress from them, insist on trying the PRECISE combination that you are buying in the store before buying it. They won't warn you if the combination that you buy doesn't work for your purpose, and they won't help you afterwards if it doesn't. read more

I'm surprised by the overall rating not being higher, though I suppose people with bad experiences seem the most prone to write reviews. Anyway, I've gone here four times over the years, starting my college days, and continuing on to my time with a family. In fact, my queen mattress lasted me 17 years and was well worth the price. They have a nice selection in-store for both bed frames, mattresses and some furniture as well. I found the furniture a little pricey, but solidly made at least. The mattresses are great, as are the beds, and the in-store staff has always given me great customer service and let me lounge around trying all the beds until I found the right one for me. All four times I've bought with them, either for myself or for my kids, the delivery men arrived on time, quickly assembled our beds efficiently, and everyone has been happy with their beds. I wish there was a 0 star option because that is truly what this place deserves. The one thing that is working for this company is that the delivery people are very good. Very nice and understanding and helpful, but also they could have called me to say they were running 3 and a half hours late. First of all the window managment gave me for delivery was 2-7 which is outrageous as is but then they were over 3 hours late. When I called they said I was the last stop of the day, if you know I am the last stop and that you have 22 orders why would you even pretend that you could be here at 2 pm. Absolutely ridiculous. It is 10 pm and I still do not have my furniture. 3 hours late and no sign of the delivery people. No phone call to say that they are running late. The least they could do is call, but not even that. The store is also closed so I am unable to call about when my items will be arriving. the fact that they would ever close the only working phone number before doing all the deliveries just goes to show how AWFUL the customer service is. Horrible horrible service. Go anywhere else if you want reliable delivery. I will be telling all of my other college friends who are moving off campus to buy from another furniture store. I showed up in Boston without a bed. For the first three nights, I slept on the floor of my insanely cold and empty apartment. When my furniture had arrived, I went down to the Boston Bed Company and pick out the world's best mattress! It is a pillow-top mattress and box spring and it is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. The lady who sold it to me, let me roll around the beds and look around for awhile without pressuring me, and it paid off because I bought a mattress. However, I didn't plan very well, because I have a very high antique bed, and I didn't take into consideration how high the pillow-top would make my bed. I have to jump a little to get on it, and my best friend had to practically do the high jump to sit on it, but thats cool. While I like my bed and dresser, I experienced terrible service from Boston Bed Company. On the day my bed was delivered, the movers did not have the right hardware for my bed and left it in pieces on the floor, telling me they were too busy to get the correct hardware to fix it. Also, in their haste to leave they left my dresser in the middle of my living room. When I called to complain about the movers, this guy Andrew told me he would have to just get back to me about my bed and in regards to my dresser, "well you probably didn't tell them where to put it." When I asked, "why would I want my dresser in my living room?" "He responded, I don't know miss, goodbye!" I ended up sleeping on my mattress on the floor that night. The next day 2 different people came back to put my bed together. This time they realized they not only had the wrong hardware, but the wrong boards, as well and also that the movers had only dropped off two of the drawers for under my bed. On the THIRD day they came back again to fix the bed and ended up breaking it in the process. When I called to get a refund of sorts, the company only comped me 1 set of drawers. $100.00 was not enough to cover the crappy service I received. Be Prepared to BE ASTOUNDED. This is a company that is a vanishing breed: honest, made in the USA, a great product, and good hardworking people that arn't full of bull#@**. I recently bought a mattress from a competitor (that rhymes with "CREEPY's") that despite its $1500 price tag, fell apart in less than a year. Despite its pristine condition and over 2" sag, I have YET to get my manufacturers' warranted refund refunded. I stopped in to Boston Bed to see if I could salvage a mattress and what I got was something I thought was long gone...good service, a GREAT product, and an AMAZING price. The owner, Andrew, (who I only learned was the owner after the sale) walked me through how to look at a mattress for my situation (my spouse was in a car accident and needs a good mattress), and did not push the most expensive product. It was delivered without fuss and even the delivery personnel were highly professional. I got the best mattress I've ever slept on for 1/5 of the price of the competitor! This is the first time I've been so motivated for any retail store to write a review, but I am SO GRATEFUL to this company and glad that "the little guy" still exists. I moved to Boston from the West Coast a couple of weeks ago with just the bare essentials and no furniture, so a few weeks prior to moving I started calling around trying to see if I could get a futon mattress delivered a day or two after arriving to avoid having to sleep on the floor of my apartment for too long. Target and Ikea both assured that, even with three weeks of notice, this was a totally impossible request and I was crazy for even asking. I called BBC on a whim after having read some good reviews on Yelp, and they treated my request how it should have been treated by the other retailers -- like it was no big deal. Moreover? They showed up at 9:30a for a 9am - 1pm delivery window, so I didn't have to sit around all day. Whoop! Friendly, very accommodating, timely and competitive prices -- I'd recommend these guys to anyone. I obviously can't speak to the long-term quality of my mattress, but it sure is comfortable now. :) read more

I lived in Allston for 8 years -- and I've never heard of The Boston Bed Company. I've been on Yelp for 2 years and this is where I heard about this company. I bought a king size bed here!! KING SIZE!! I upgraded from the full size bed that I've had for years. I found the service to be very nice, helpful, not crazy persuasive and pushy. We were impressed with the prices -- very reasonable! We went with a firm firm firm bed and I've slept very well on it for the past month. I had never purchased a bed before so I had very little knowledge about mattresses...other than I usually sleep on one. But besides the obvious purpose I had no idea what I wanted/needed except that I was soon moving to a place where I would definitely want/need something comfortable to sleep on. Before randomly locating just any mattress store, I checked with Yelp to make sure I was going to have a positive experience and luckily I found this place because the reviews did not lie. I was in the store for about 20 minutes where I was helped by JB who not only answered all my questions, but managed to do so without being overbearing and obtrusive. I have to say, it was quite a lovely experience. Which I feel is unusual for any activity other than watching a sunset, picking a basket of wild flowers, or enjoying a nice glass of lemonade by the pool. This was kind of like that. They were very helpful in not only helping me figure out what the best bed for me was according to my budget, and also arranging for pick-up/delivery. There was a little confusion as to whether they could deliver to my area, and when, and they couldn't provide a time estimate within a couple hours time, so I opted for pick-up instead. When I went to pick it up, the guy loaded it and secured it onto my car. It took quite a bit of time and it was hot as hell that day, but he was very nice and efficient, and I didn't have to do a thing. I also got to talking to a girl who works there, and she was saying they treat her really well and it's a great place to work. That means a lot. Just a note of caution: the guy said that everything you need to put the bed together is included, but you will need a screwdriver. But the set-up is fairly easy nonetheless. read more

I loved this place. I went into the showroom with fifteen spare minutes before I had to leave for work, thinking it wouldn't even be possible to get a bed chosen and purchased. After wandering around for a few minutes, I snagged a saleswoman from the front desk, she talked to me about my options, asked me my budget (less than $500) and got me a queen set and bed frame for less than my budget. They even offered me cookies as I paid the bill. Delivery was well within the time they scheduled (yay) but the guys didn't help set anything up. To be fair, I didn't ask. So, I moved into my first "for real adult" apartment Saturday, and needed a mattress to replace the lovely plastic air mattress I was sleeping on. I live a couple blocks away from Boston Bed Company, so I bought a mattress from them. The service is excellent. Both salespeople were lovely, and they were not pushy. Even though I was scatterbrained and frantic from lack of sleep and the stress of having nothing I needed for my apartment, they stayed friendly and patient through the whole experience. I got my mattress delivered today and it's fabulous. The delivery people were also very friendly. Not creepy guys on work release who leave dirt on the floor and smell bad. My bed frame was assembled in about ten minutes (at the most). It was awesome. The only problem I had here was late delivery. I was told my mattress would be delivered between one and five so I left work a bit early, but it wasn't delivered until six. They apologized several times and did seem genuinely sorry, but waiting around was not fun. BUT, I would highly recommend Boston Bed Company, and I could see myself buying from them again in the future. read more

I had never shopped for a mattress before and went in very warily. I'm cautious about salespeople who sell items that go into the 3-digit dollar range. I'm even more cautious when I know absolutely nothing about the product I'm about to purchase. Right off the bat, we were greeted by the salesman. He asked if we needed help and we said we were just browsing. He backed off immediately and told us to ask for help if we needed it. When we did, he asked our price range and I gave him a ballpark. He promised to show us only mattresses that were within the price range, stating that spending more than what we had would be senseless. He started off with some nice beds within the lower end of my price range and only showed us higher end, more expensive mattresses when we asked. I've had my mattress for 5 months now and it's the best bed I've ever had. He told us how to take care of it (rotating and whatnot) and we arranged the drop-off. A couple of days later, I got a call from the delivery guys and met them outside. They were incredibly nice and social. The driver sent me back inside to wait for him because it was raining and cold. We swung into the Allston store after 6 years living abroad and having just relocated to Boston. We needed all new furniture as we owned nothing worth shipping. We regret purchasing the Milan platform frame for $299 (you can buy basically the same frame for $109 on Amazon!). And given the poor quality of the bed frame, we have our doubts about the durability of the mattress we paid $499 for. It's a comfortable mattress, but someone else here reviewed that their mattress wore out very quick so we'll see. But we had no idea how light and poor quality the bed frames here are. We didn't think to actually bang on them in the show room. We just thought the Milan frame looked nice, which it does. We were assured by the salesman that the bed frame quality was superior to IKEA (we can personally attest that it's not as we've purchased a bed frame from IKEA in the past and it was much sturdier, heavier boards for a little less money). The Boston Bed salesman should have asked if our apartment has floorboards as this super light bed frame (which my 120 lb. wife can lift!) will slide a bit around your floorboards and can easily be structurally compromised. It looks nice but is poorly designed and after a couple weeks the middle support posts came unscrewed, collapsed and the middle support beam cracked. When my wife called Boston Bed the salesman was rude and stood by the product and told her it was our fault. Umm, How??? We're not that big. But they sent someone to replace the posts and middle support beam anyway. It's fixed for now, but we're dubious it will hold up too long. Fingers crossed. There are a couple friendly staff members here. The salesman we bought from and the guy who came to fix our bed were very friendly. If only the bed frame was a sturdier product we'd be much happier. If you shop here check the bed frames more carefully then we did, especially if you have floor boards. read more

My family has been buying from Boston Bed Company for as long as I remember. I grew up on a double sized mattress from them. While I still LOVE my double mattress, it was no longer big enough for my boyfriend and bed-hogging dog. After almost 10 years it is still in great shape. We will be keeping it for the guest bedroom. While I always had Boston Bed Company in the back on my mind, we tried a few other stores to get a feel for the type of mattress we wanted. I wanted a plush mattress and my boyfriend wanted a firm. We went to Jordan's first and were immediately swarmed by employee's. It was like feeding time at the Zoo. They would not leave us alone. When they got down to the the prices I laughed. King sized mattresses ranged from about 2,000-10,000. Not to mention, we couldn't agree on a mattress. We left disappointed. After more disappointments at Bob's and Mattressfirm We went to Boston Bed Company in Framingham. Barry was great. We explained to him what we were looking for, and he provided us helpful suggestions without being too pushy. He then left us alone to browse the mattresses ourselves. It was a relief after dealing with pushy sales employees all day. We tried out the Riverview memory foam mattress he recommended and we were done. We actually agreed on a mattress, I couldn't believe it. I HIGHLY recommend this mattress and Boston Bed Company. Not just for their awesome customer service but their PRICES. I could not believe that a mattress that comfy would be in our price range! Way under anything we would have paid at Jordan's. The sales team was extremely helpful in explaining the differences between the types of mattress and I ended up going with a Tommy Bahama. I love my new mattress, the most comfortable I've ever had. After a disatrous experience at City Mattress (see full review there) we were in urgent need for Queen split boxsprings. We called up the Boston Bed Company, and they were extremeley nice and helpful. They went out of their way to make sure we could pick up our product the next day, and took my payment information to reserve the boxspring. When we arrived the next day, the salesperson remembered us from our phone order, and they carried the boxsprings to our car, loaded them in for us, and saw us on our way. Perfect service experience! this was an amazing experience... after going to several other places that embodied the 80's used car salesman technique it was quite refreshing! the staff was very knowledgeable and extremely laid back. they helped me figure out what i was looking for, showed me some items, and let me feel out any of the beds - no pressure - to see what i liked. they were there to answer my questions and not to let me make up my own mind. then they even helped me (or i should say did it for me) tie it to the roof of my car! rope, carrying it out, tying it down and all. by far the best shopping experience imaginable. the guy even remembered me by name when i showed up a week after purchasing it to pick it up! i left my receipt at home by accident, and he was like, "no, he's ok. i know him." simply amazing. good prices and great selection as well, and to fit any price range. i highly recommend it to anybody in the marked for new bed furniture. read more
