Great customer service! We were actually just waiting for the Westin shuttle when Nikka invited us in to look around. We did.... Found a well stocked store, really good prices and things that we didn't realize they had. James went above and beyond and called Westin to get the shuttle schedule for us! We rented from this store a few years ago.... We have a few days left on the island, so we'll return tomorrow to pick up some chairs and snorkel gear to finish off our trip. I come here every year for the last 5 years to rent golf clubs. The weekly rate is reasonable, and the clubs are a decent quality name brand. The cashier was a golf starter at a nearby course, so he is a golfer too. I'll be back soon! read more

I can't say enough about Bear, James and Cindy!! Bear was incredibly knowledgeable about snorkel masks and gave me 20 minute crash course which helped me make an informed decision. I heard Cindy with another person give great information about snorkeling spots on the island and then helped with my unusual transaction. Unsure how to plan our week, we popped into Boss Frog's where we were pleasantly greeted by Victoria. She easily spent 30 minutes sharing ideas and suggestion. She covered the spectrum from expensive adventures to multiple free excursions. She catered to our active teenage boys, yet kept everything realistic. She stayed I. contact throughout our visit and kept us abreast of opportunities and departure times. she was great and without any sales pressure. in fact, she helped us reduce expenses whenever possible. This trip was our first to Maui. We arrived Tues 10/14. We came to celebrate my wife's birthday. We brought our own snorkel gear except I needed to rent a pair of fins. Before going to the condo, we stopped at Napili Plaza to purchase some groceries at Napili Market. My wife noticed a Boss Frog store, we went in. It was late Tuesday afternoon. A friendly gentleman (Lorenzo Romano) with a nice smile, asked how he could be of help. He fit me with the right size fins. I noticed on the wall an awesome photo of a crescent island with boats anchored in its curve. i asked about it and Lorenzo said it's Molokini, the remnants of an ancient crater only a 45 minute charter boat ride away on the Calypso with snorkeling and a sea turtle stop - breakfast and pulled pork sandwiches for lunch. We signed up for Thursday's charter. Lorenzo, gave us great tips on other "must see and do" events on Maui - Road to Hana - Haleakala crater. We arrived at Boss Frog late Tuesday with nary a plan of what to do, and left with exciting adventures, reef friendly sun screen and a new friend! We were here last week in need of equipment and Boss Frogs saved the day. I was quite distracted as both my children were pulling me in different directions. So I did not get the name of the man who got me (Sarah) registered and was ever so patient with us. He was so helpful and in tips he was providing us about Baby beach. He was a middle aged thin Asian man that said he lived right next to the beach. I have not been able to shake tracking this man down in light of hearing about the devastating fires that hit his town. If there is any way to put me in touch with him I would like to see if I can offer him any help to him and his family; as a token of gratitude for the kindness he showed my family on our visit. This store is part of a chain all over Maui to rent beach equipment. It was really convenient to pick up our stuff from one location and return it at another. We rented beach umbrellas, swim belts, and snorkel fins for our extended family. Unfortunately, weren't sure of everyone's sizes because they weren't in the store with us, so we got a variety of sizes. The swim belts turned out HUGE! I could only wear the smallest one, and the rest were completely useless. The swim fins didn't fit that well, and we ended up not using them either. Such a waste. Oh well. read more

As say "$1.5 for snorkel gear... return to any location" Quoted $35 for 2 sets for the week in kihei, returned after 4 days because weren't using it and got charged $75 when I returned it in kaanapali. When I asked for equipment back to return to original location that quoted me $35 he got mad, made me go through bins to try to find or gear and then grabbed me. Like his whole body was on me for a split second, I screamed and police were called. My poor tired kids were just outside so I left. No one in the store except employees and they wouldn't even give me the guys name. I'm so shaken up and upset. I can't stop thinking about how scary it was to feel that huge man grab me. Much taller than I and at least 200lbs. I'm So disgusted!!!! The $20 seems like nothing now but still, o nothin else, go somewhere they won't rip you off. This place by my condo rents for $20 a week. read more

It's Sunday, October 16 it was about 1245pm just in case the owner is paying attention because I'm pretty sure the guy behind the counter was not the owner although acting like he was entitled which I've ran across plenty of times as a minority Male . The little boy acted like I didn't matter like I was putting him out asking questions how dare me right !! Came in here earlier today and there was a kid working. He was helping another customer so i just waited until they finished. After they left i was the only one left in the store and i told him that I had a reservation on sat and sun with them and wanted to make sure i was prepared with what i needed to so. he was unfriendly and seemed to not want to help me. I then switched the topic to snorkel gear and as i was talking about it with him, he walked into the back room. Not sure what i did wrong to deserve this kind of service. We had a great time selecting our snorkel gear with Patty. My family is here vacationing and we have 2 young kids. My husband and I were easy to fit. Patty took her time with both of our kids to make sure they were involved in the process of trying the gear, let them help fit the adults, and made it all so fun. BUYER BEWARE !! We got duped by the full page add in the "101 THINGS TO DO - Maui" publishing. It boasts "Snorkel Set Rentals $5/day" in the Summer/Fall 2018 and it's even lower pricing @ $1.50/day or weekly for $10" in the Summer/Fall 2019 publishing. Shame on them. Yes, its true. They DO have those snorkel sets but they are the very old model in the Jacque Cousteau style that my father used when he was younger. You can use them, but I they're not comfortable or ideal, especially for newer snorkelers. In truth, you're going to pay $ 50/week per person per set for general "easy breath" snorkel gear and they're going to try and upsell you to the full face mask/snorkel unit for $ 100/week (which has had alot of problems with valves clogging and people being unable to breath). I'd recommend going to a smaller mom & pop places around the island if you really want the true $15/week. read more

Beware of hidden charges and shady billing. We rented four Snorkel set ups and four bear chairs for a weekly rental. When I returned my weekly rental items after only five of the seven days, their system tried to charge me $150 in late fees and double charged me for two of the items. They eventually reversed the erroneous charges. The equipment was serviceable but not worth the hassle created by their shady billing system. read more

As a visitor, we had a good experience with snorkel rental at Boss Frogs. The staff was knowledgeable about the different snorkel equipment and made sure everything fit properly. We rented the snorkel gear for 24 hours and you can return them to any Boss Frog location which was great for us. We rented our gear in Lahaina and returned them in Kihei. read more

Stopped by this awesome snorkel shop yesterday which we had visited many times before and had an exceptional experience with shop sales person, Carolyn Zemekis. This lady's kindness and enthusiasm was electric! She took the time to listen to our concerns, so knowledgeable with the products, and then went out of her way to find us the best deal for an excursion! My husband and I were blown away with her professionalism and enthusiasm; her personality shine through and I believe she deserves a raise!! They advertise $1.50 day for snorkel gear..... but most people would not want to consider renting them. Plan on paying at least $40-$45 a week for normal snorkel gear, per person. 2 for 1 is really about $80 for two sets.... the ad they post is not very clear..... Took 15 minutes just to return gear.... Only one person working..... read more

Whale watching! Or not? They run a promotion for whale watching so thats what we did! About $49 for two adults, which is a great deal. Only later I realized there is a different trip of snorkeling, breakfast, lunch, plus whale watching all for $69. If we knew that, I think we'd do that instead. But overall even whale watching was fun. On Calypso (the boat) they had happy hour: all drinks for $1 with free refills or $3 for cocktails. However do not expect to see whales up close. read more

We came here because my friend always comes here to rent snorkel gear. The people were really friendly and the equipment was solid. They ended up talking us into renting an underwater camera for $30/week... but it was worth every penny. The camera was of solid quality and there's unlimited battery recharges and memory space. It's also worth it because the disposable cameras aren't digital, and only come with 27 exposures, which means you're limited to 27 shots per camera. Each disposable camera is about $10 and you're not even guaranteed to get good shots. With the camera we rented, we could even take videos as well. It was perfect for snorkeling! At the end of the trip, we just had to return it and they burned all the pictures and videos into a DVD. The guy helping us with our rentals also made us some good food recommendations as well as recommendations for zipline tours. They're definitely helpful and it was worth every penny we spent there! read more

I am updating this review for the last time. We did contest the charges with American Express, which resulted in a call to us from a Boss Frog's manager. I explained the situation, along with the fact that we were not contesting the actual use or even purchases that we made at their store, and were therefore not trying to rip them off. We were simply arguing the fact that we were overcharged for the use of the snorkel equipment and felt it was unfair. Since they would not handle it at the store, we took it to the credit card company, He accepted the explanation, and although he didn't sound too happy he did sound like he understood where we were coming from. He agreed to back out the amount that was in question (we still paid for the equipment use and our store purchases, which is absolutely fine with us). read more

I have to retract my review of these guys. They did right after I made a complaint about the wait time to rent snorkels and claim about them not honoring 2 for 1 coupon. I received an email next day APOLOGIZING for my bad experience at their Lahaina Cannery location. They asked me to give them a call which I did. Explained the incident and they took the incident very seriously and made it up to us big time! Their equipment is very good as long as you don't get the low end snorkel. I will definitely try them again when I go back to Maui! Thank you! Great customer service! My incident was definitely a training issue of the staff at that location. read more
