We bought a full set of snorkeling gear for my 16-year-old son and me at their Honolulu location about a week ago. The representative there gave us fantastic advice and the equipment has served us beautifully for multiple snorkeling excursions in Oahu and Maui. When we got to Maui, we did the snorkeling tour at Molokini and on the very last stop someone unfortunately stepped on my mask and broke the attachment point on the mask. When I took the mask to the Kihei shop to see if they could repair it they just offered to replace the mask entirely. I can't believe the incredible customer service that we received both on Oahu and on Maui. Thus shop is the real deal! The customer service on both Oahu and Maui have been world class and wow, their selection of snorkeling gear is limited, it's for good reason. This is the best gear available. It's carefully curated and selected and you cannot go wrong by getting your snorkeling gear there whether rental or purchase. read more

Hands down, the ONLY snorkel gear rental shop you should consider when renting in Maui or any of the other islands!!! As a (very, very) infrequent snorkeler, I was thinking of buying my own gear off Amazon and figuring out how to make space in my already limited luggage space to fit what I'd need. However, I came across this small snorkel gear chain reading through some online reviews. What really stuck out to me was paying only $5 for an interisland pick up and 24 hr drop off service that wouldn't require bringing rented gear across the islands. In the name of convenience and wanting to see the novelty for myself, I made an online one week gear reservation for prescription snorkels. That costed a little bit more, but absolutely worth the upgrade to be able to see another world under the waves. Pickup at the store was a breeze! The staff was super friendly and courteous, and went out of their way to make sure my prescription was exactly what I needed to see clearly. Included in the rental was an anti-fog solution and a handy fish guide, which were both super helpful and appreciated! The gear was top notch, definitely of great quality and most likely better than whatever $40 gear I'd get off Amazon. More importantly, the 24 hr drop off service worked amazing! I dropped off my 1st rental after hours in the convenient drop off box, and at my next stay in Oahu picked up a fresh set of gear using my previous rental receipt! Drop off was just as easy as well, and the staff at this store was just as friendly and helpful too. Honestly, if you need snorkel gear or want the convenience of not having to schlep gear across islands, Snorkel Bob's is THE only way to go! Not only would you be supporting an amazing local business, but you'll be thankful you have only the best gear in hand to make your snorkeling adventures really unforgettable. Making a reservation online was easy- and it came with a free tote, who doesn't love that?! We stopped in to pick up our gear and the woman working was SO helpful. She made sure everything fit correctly and it wasn't an awkward upsell. Don't get me wrong, she mentioned other options than what we original selected but wasn't pushy. We got a couple of recommendations on where to go, unfortunately it was a bit of a bust but that's not their fault as it's always changing with the weather. Stopped in for a quick couple sets of snorkel gear. Despite the busy setting, the gal was polite, helpful and efficient. When you try your gear on, I highly recommend trying on both flippers, as one may be more stretched than the other. This was my case and she quickly traded mine out for another flipper without question. It's worth mentioning the gear was in great shape for our two day use. Always great service when we come here. We love snorkeling and keep it simple: fins, mask, snorkel. The nearby beaches give us plenty to view, and our favorite sea creature is the green sea turtle. Just praise for the fast pick up of gear to hit the beach. Returning the gear is equally easy with drop boxes and a pre-filled receipt from SB's to credit us. SB's offers other services that we haven't participated in, but other customers seem happy about, based on the verbal exchanges in the shop. read more

beach chairs are old and you have to carry on your side. They are loose carrying causing the metal side to bum/scraps the legs. The chairs are not comfortable.... they don't carry the backpack type which is the best. Too bad for me the sales guy was friendly and helpful so I rented them for a whole week...‍ read more

I came in here today off the recommendation of a coworker who rented snorkel gear the day prior. The two ladies behind the counter were nice and helpful with different options they offer. I ended up renting snorkel gear for the day and it was only $19 bucks, a great deal compared to some places on the islands. The mask fit great and the fins were pretty good (obviously not as good as my personal gear, but for rentals they worked well). All the gear came in an easy to carry and dry bag, and it even came with anti fog solution....which I thought was great!!! If you're around this shop and need some gear I would recommend stopping in. Not only did we get setcwith snorkle and fins, he booked an excursion for us that was absolutely fantastic. The crew was fabulous and so caring with each guest to ensure ALL guests had a great experience. What made it extra special to me was the way they treated my 9 yr old autistic grandson. He originally did not want to get into e water. But changed his mind and they took such good care of him, lowered him into the water via a noodle and just made sure he was having a great experience. I have left reviews on multiple sites and Snorkel Bob's own customer service email about how their large male employee at Kihei literally yelled at us and kicked us out for calmly asking why the gear we reserved was not actually reserved for us (a valid question... otherwise why take reservations?!?). I have received no reply and no apology. They clearly do not care about their customers or losing business. Please a avoid at all costs unless you want to be scolded and have a bitter taste in your mouth about Maui. What can I say, absolutely loved the Wailea location when we went last summer and so contacted the business to buy my own pair of Seamo Betta RX mask and bundle and James reached out immediately! I had to wait to recheck my prescriptions and didn't follow up for half a year and literally within hours of me reaching back out yesterday James was helping me identify what gear I wanted, answered my millions of questions and had it shipped and on the way!!!! First bit of advice: shop for your snorkeling stuff at home. Here they gotcha and they know it. Plus you have the pressure of not wasting your vacation time, so it's hard to research and compare stuff properly. All that said... Snorkel Bob's is a chain store. There are a lot of them all over the Islands. They are a bit pricey, and some of their people are knowledgeable (and some not-so-much). They rent and sell equipment, as well as book some excursions. If you KNOW what you want, and if SB has it, then it's fine. If you're asking advice, you may or may not get good advice. Be warned. We came in to rent a snorkel set for my mother-in-law. We already had our own stuff so didn't really need SB for ourselves. Their rental rates are typically for a week, and it's not unreasonable. Unexpectedly my wife wanted to try a mask with corrective lenses in it (you can get masks that will do a general correction, usually in 0.50 increments). I ended up trying one too. We both liked them, and we both bought them. They were good masks (probably over-priced). So on top of the rental, we now had these which entitled us to free stuff. And then they advised us it was too rough to snorkel that day (which it was), and offered us surf lessons (see my review for Maui Wave Runner). So we opted for that, which got us more free stuff. We ended up with a free boogie-board rental (actually, 2 boards), a free vest rental, and two free books. Another nice feature is that you can return equipment to ANY SB location. You don't have to return to the one you rented from. The equipment performed reasonably, and the pricing wasn't outrageous. It didn't quite fit my mother-in-law's face properly, but they didn't really have another option for us. We made it work. Our corrective masks were great. No problems. We donated our old masks to Savers in Kahului. read more

I absolutely LOVE THIS snorkel bob's location. The clerk, Spencer is one of the best people I've ever had the pleasure of buying from. He was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. He was able to help me find prescription lens goggles that REALLY helped my ability to see underwater very well. The anti-fog spray he recommended is the best I've ever used. I accidentally went to this store instead of a nearby competitor. I had a good coupon I wanted to use. Well, she kindly upgraded our snorkels. Wasn't as good as the coupon I had at the competitor, but it was a nice gesture. She kindly gave us a map of the area and pointed out good snorkel spots. We had an issue with one snorkel working properly, so it took time out of our day to go back to exchange it. They easily exchanged it, but like I said it was just a pain to have to drive back when we were already at our snorkel spot. Good people, good small company. Would go back to them again. read more

Avoid a worker named Sue like the plague, she will try to sell you an absolutely terrible voyage experience which was the Lankai. Absolutely terrible. She stated that the experience would provide gourmet breakfast which to our dismay consisted of stale piece of bread and one slice of cheese that was disgusting. The employee literally rolled his eyes at us, was extremely rude, and tried to aggressively convince us that we wouldn't be able to snorkel for long due to possible winds. We had already checked the wind report from the university of Hawaii and knew it would be a good day for snorkeling. They should consider changing the name to Snorkel Bob's gear, excursions and more! Their name is a little facetious, as they don't "just" offer snorkel gear. They offer a ton of services, packages, rentals, and the best service all around. We had the good fortune of meeting Katie at the Kihei location (and later on at the Kamaole location for our cork board). We came in here our first morning on the island, and lucked out meeting Katie. She took the time to measure all of our gear for comfort, and also listen to what our skill level and experience was. Knowing that we had our 3 year old Rae with us, she gave her a native fish chart for entertainment and made about 12-15 recommendations on places to snorkel, beaches easy to navigate, and also other spots on the island ideal for hiking with a toddler in tow. She made it a point to ask a ton of questions pertaining to what our interests in exploring the island were. On top of that, we told her our dining tastes and she gave us a list of restaurants that serve awesome fare, but also have days of the week in which they offered up to 50% off the menu, or had sunset specials. She truly served as a personal concierge of sorts. After a few days in the water, we felt comfortable enough to book and excursion through her and are so thankful we got such a great deal with her as opposed to trying to book directly through the charter. Katie really embodied that spirit of Aloha and we are so happy to have met her on the first day of our trip. She really helped us plan our time on the island and even threw in the cool cork board for Rachael to use while we snorkeled and towed. Be sure to ask for what specials they have when reserving for a week. Sometimes, it pays to rent for longer than just a day. You also end up with a great read authored by Bob himself. *they also let you drop off your gear at any location. Although Snorkel Bob's provided us with all the gear that we needed for our first time snorkeling trip, the reason why we picked Snorkel Bob's instead of the multitudes of other snorkeling shops in the area was because of their supposed excellent service and supposed expertise on the subject. However there was nothing extraordinary about Snorkel Bob in this respect. Even though we told the associate that it was our first time snorkeling, no additional advice was offered. Price: For your price comparison sake, their cheapest most basic snorkeling equipment is about $8/day. If you add additional equipment, like us, it cost up to $20-25/person a day. Pretty pricey and definitely adds up. In retrospect if I were to do it again, I would definitely look at other snorkeling shops before renting from Snorkel Bob's. read more

I've been renting equipment from various Snorkel Bob locations for the past 12 years or so, each time we come to Hawaii. This location was just about the best one we've been to. The equipment was top-rate and pretty new, and the salesperson helped us chose the right optical masks for our prescriptions. She was very helpful and efficient - we were in and out in about ten minutes. We did the full week rental for $95 for both of us - great deal, and we used the equipment every day, as well as on a snorkel trip. They also rent wetsuits, boards, chairs, floats, you name it. You can generally find coupons on line if you dig around on line or in the local newspapers or tourist guides. read more

So we felt there is a chance that we are about to be played when the cashier was trying not to respond to our very simple question which was: "what happens if we give the snorkeling equipment back two hours late." Finally we got the answer that a dollar per hour is about right, but the calculation is "very complicated". Of course, when we came back, exactly one hour and fifty minutes late, we were billed $12 extra. The explanation we got was that the cashier we saw the day before "was probably an intern". Also, we were told we were lying when we said that we were told payment was "by hour". Apparently, it just "wasn't part of their jargon". My recommendation: do whatever you can to find your equipment elsewhere. Don't be fooled by their seeming low prices.. eventually you end up paying more than what you would pay at a hotel rental and you'll have the extra chore of returning the equipment there and getting very bad service. read more
