If you're looking for sea turtles, this beach seems to always have a few turtles any day. It's not a popular beach, but always proves to be plentiful with turtles early in the morning. Remember to stay at least ten feet away to not harass the sea life! read more

A wonderful calm beach to take your daily walk, admire turtles and a catch a lovely sunset. There are folks that are part of a Turtle Patrol that comes out and draw a line in the sand around the turtle and post signs reminding people to stay 10 feet away. We have enjoyed taking our daily walk in the morning which coincidentally takes us to Sugar Bakery for malasadas! Street parking and easy to access the beach. Great place to take kids. read more

What a beautiful little hidden park and beach. This treasure has rocks that help keep water calm safe enough for the little ones to enjoy a day in the waters. The sand is so powdery and soft as you walk across the beach as well. There is a wash station should you need it right above the grass area. Since the rocks create barriers from the deeper ocean you can even find turtles sleeping early in the morning as thier safe place of slumber. Sooooo coool!! Love this beach and the great sunrises, and sunsets it has blessed us with. read more

This was a special birthday party for a set of twins and other children of the same age. Deli and Cake served. The water is shallow out to the artificial reef. Very safe for the kids. No surf. Lots of children today. Super! read more

The north part of the beach is characterized by trees and shady areas that lead into a shallow beach and natural waves. The south part of the beach has a breakwater with shallow swimming / float area ideal for kids or families and clear water that makes it easy to see what's below. There are also picnic tables, a washing station, and grassy park at the south end. Only downside is no true bathroom- just a porta potty- unless the visitor center is open. The upside of no real bathrooms may also be fewer people camping out for the whole day and/or night here. read more

This must be a go-to place to find sea turtles because we were told to come here if we wanted to see a turtle... and we did! We had to park a few addresses down because parking is sparse but there are a few trees on the beach where you could park yourself under a shade! Though the water isn't so clear, the sand is soft and powdery. read more

I am in love with this quaint little park. It's a beautiful spot that you'll pass in a blink of an eye if you don't pay attention. Be aware that parking is limited, so be careful where you choose to park if all of the spots are taken. A nice manicured park with a few benches and a grill. The sand is nice for the kids to play in. But the best part is that it's a former fishpond and the water is calm enough for the kids to swim in. In fact it's nice and shallow and an average height adult can walk the entire fishpond during low tide. For those fishermen/women, you can whip or dunk on the wall and cast outside of the fishpond for some action while the kids splash all around. You may also witness a canoe paddling class happening or even a few people learning hula....well we did on our last visit. It's a nice spot to enjoy for a family gathering without the crowds. Or have a little picnic while the kids splish splash in the water. read more

I came to the beach because is really close to where we were staying. It's me my two kids one of which is seven months old the other is four years old and he and my wife. We decided to walk there because it's very close it was windy but the The walk was a breath of fresh air. To my surprise the beach was almost empty. It's perfect for little kids because entire beach is closed off by rocks so nothing big come come through and no big waves can crash onto the sand. Because of it the hole beach is very shallow. Also there's always little turtles resting on the rocks. Along with a Huge diversity of fish. It's the best family beach if you have toddlers on the island read more

Kalepolepo -- a small beach tucked away from the typical crowds you'll find in south Maui. There are much "nicer" beaches just down the road, but this place is quite special. It holds an ancient Hawaiian fish pond built some 500 years ago and it is within these walls of Ko`ie`ie Loko I`a that fish were gathered for Hawaiian royalty. The Maui Fishpond Association has been working since 2005 to restore the walls in this historical site which create a calm shallow pool that is perfect for keiki (children). This is an excellent place to bring little ones so they can safely enjoy the water without having to worry about waves or currents toppling them over, unlike Baby Beach in Paia. It's like having a huge salt water swimming pool, but better! There's also a grassy area, a few picnic tables, & BBQ's which is perfect for a day with the family. Now, the "sand" here isn't quite that fine white sand, but more of a dirt/sand mix... which is what Kalepolepo means "the dirt." It's still a great place to enjoy the water & even the sunset or two. I believe there's a parking lot, but I must have missed it and just parked along the street. Street parking should be relatively easy to find if the lot is full! read more

Kalepolepo Beach Park is a nice beach that seems to be pretty quiet and mostly people-less. My husband and I stopped by this park beach to watch a sunset on a Thursday evening. We parked across the street and just walked over to catch the sunset. This beach seemed to be rather secluded for the most part when we came to visit during the day on another day, which is very nice. The waves seemed pretty calm here, a bit more calmer than the other beaches down the street. It is kind of unique that there is a small pond at this beach park. A local had told us that sometimes turtles would hang out here and on this beach (unfortunately we saw none on either of our visits. This beach park is pretty big, with grass, picnic benches and barbecue pits around. Definitely a nice beach to have a family/ friend get together. read more

A smaller beach that ended up being my favorite to snorkel so close alongside the turtles. Aside from the abnormally small (9 spots) parking lot, the firmer sand beach, and the water not being perfectly clear, this place is not crowded at all. The waves are blocked off by a wall of rocks making a very shallow cove that people can wade through easily, essentially it's very family friendly. Many turtles can be spotted easily swimming or resting underwater off shore at the rocks, even without snorkel gear. It does get windy in the afternoon, but bring a chair for sunset and you easily have an unobstructed view here. read more

We have spent almost everyday out here. Not crowded at all, street parking if needed. And sea turtles! Not lots but just enough to excite the kids The beach isn't very wide but it's pretty long and lots of people seem to love just walking it. Mine kiddos loved body surfing and boogie boarding on the little baby waves, and as a mom I felt safe knowing that at any time they could stand up because it is really shallow for a ways out. I've heard and seen people say it's good for paddleboarding, early morning 6-8am , before the wind comes in. And believe me, it comes in. By early afternoon the wind is pretty crazy, and with wind on a beach, let's just say...sand gets everywhere! read more

The beach itself is great for kids as their is a man made barrier that prevents the waves from crashing in and allows kids to swim in calm waters. It's only knee deep closer to shore and waist high closer to the barrier. Keep in mind it does get very windy here. read more

The reason Amanda found this beach wasn't like Maui Revealed described is because being highly opinionated and projecting the impression that you just saved the buyer from a horrible experience is what sells guidebooks. But it is also often a boatload of BS. This is one of the places they've used as sacrificial lamb for marketing the book, since it isn't going to be a go-to in its own right for most visitors, it is easily expendable. But if you want to know the truth, this spot was actually the choice of kings - quite literally. There is an ancient Hawaiian fish pond (actually of three in the area) that walls the water off here, so it is calm and great for kids - which Amanda also discovered when talking to the local family swimming there. Locals also fish here. For residents and visitors staying in the area it is also a nice escape for a low-key BBQ or sunset. As Amanda discovered, the reality is that this is a lovely small beach of convenience. This beach was right across the street from our condo. It's very shallow, and part of it is walled off from the open ocean. It's a native Hawaiian fish park that's being restored. There's signs with facts pertaining to the founding and such posted around the park. We basically had the beach to ourselves. We later figured out why.... In "Maui Revealed" they suggest not swimming here.Reason being, there can be bad algae problems. The day we were there the water was clear, and had no odor. There was a woman swimming there with her child, and she said it was fine to be there. Maybe on other days the water's different. It's really pretty, and it's nice to have what feels like your own private beach. After reading the article, we didn't go back, Although, we probably wouldn't have anyway, since there are so many beaches in the area. Even if you don't swim there, it's a nice park to walk around in. I found the history of it interesting. read more

This is one of my favorite beaches! Kalepolepo Beach Park is worth checking out... It is never crowded, has picnic tables, outdoor showers, BBQ areas, a large grassy field, nice soft sand, plenty of free parking, easy access in and out (no long walks), porta-potties on site, lots of shady trees in the park, and just a really good spiritual feeling. You just know it's special.... The waves are much calmer at this beach which is nice if you want to swim/snorkel or just take it easy. It's an awesome place to meditate, very quiet and peaceful. I always see lots of turtles here, especially at night. This is a great spot to swim and snorkel. It is also the best spot in Maui to catch the sunset. I like to sit on the back deck of the whale education center (blue building) during sunset. There are comfy benches with back rests, and it is right at the edge of the ocean with beautiful views. It's extra fabulous, plus there are telescopes to view the whales which is a huge bonus. One totally cool feature at Kalepolepo Beach is the ancient fish pond, the prized property of King Kamehameha III in the 1850s where the makaainana (commoners) farmed, fished, and raised taro. Today, many volunteers work hard to restore and preserve the ancient fish pond. This is a very sacred spot, indeed!!!! read more

Absolutely love this place. Easy parking at whale visitor center. Locals have kept up this fish pond really nice that kids ( 4 and 6) basically could go throughout without submerging. Also there is a family of sea turtles that like to hang out by the rocks so that was super cool. read more

We go here often with my toddler. The fish pond area is super kid friendly, but surfable to the left or right of pond. Allowing my other half a chance to enjoy the waves while we watch in calmer waters. Decent sized beach for playing, and a grassy area with picnic tables. There are turtle who often comes into the fish pond. Wish there was more parking and better restrooms, which is why the review gets 4 stars not 5. read more

Perfect beach park with little to no people! My family and I came here because we drove down to Kihei to go to Wow Wow Lemonade. I found this beach on Yelp and I couldn't have been more happy! There's an actual beach area, but there's a smaller area that's surrounded by rocks so that there aren't many waves. That area is shallow and has really warm water which is great for small kids! I believe there is a parking lot, but we found parked on the street. read more

It was a nice beach! We came here for sunset a few times and it was quite nice to walk along and then watch the sun with some beautiful palm trees that scatter the beach. It was a long and skinny beach which is a bit different than what I was used to coming fro the mainland - but I enjoyed walking along it none-the-less. There is free parking and there was a lot with not too many spots, but we never had an issue as there was street parking as well. read more

This is THE beach for babies and toddlers because it is completely protected from the waves by a rock breakwater encircling the area. Very minimal wave action keeps your little ones safe. This is a very quiet beach that is a good place to picnic or watch for sea turtles at dusk. read more

This secret spot in Kihei is a great little getaway beach park to catch some sun or read a book or both. It's right between Menehune Shores and the Whale Education Center and not many people even know it's there! The grounds have nice grass, picnic tables, showers and a KiddiePond style old fish pond that makes an ultra safe environment for small children who may not be ready for actual ocean waves but want to experience salt water. It's very scenic with palm trees and stunning views of the West Maui Mountains and the island of Lanai. Sunsets rock here and it's rarely crowded, especially on week days. Only thing that could maybe make it better would be actual bathrooms but the ports potties do the job just fine. I can't wait to go hang out there soon! Overrated - there are nicer beaches in Kihei. Too many illegally unleashed dogs roaming around. Almost got jumped on and scratched by one. Owner was not even carrying a leash and did not care when told her dog needed to be on a leash. There is a sign but dog owners seem to ignore it. read more
