This is the best beach on Maui. There, I said it! You will absolutely not regret coming to this beach. I've come here multiple times during my trip to Maui and, in the future, I plan to only come here to swim and enjoy the island. The waves are always very small and it is an excellent place to snorkel. Do be advised that the waves are shore break and the sand drops off very quickly. Beware of undertow and current conditions. Definitely sign up for the free Maui snorkel report to be informed. We snorkeling during an 8.5 day and saw an eel, a sea turtle,bcolorful schools of fish and unique tropical lone fish. During whale season, you can float on your back and listen to the songs of the whales in the distance. My skin and hair felt so soft after swimming in this magical, healing water. The views of Lanai and Molokai are gorgeous and the water itself creates a blue gradient that is outstanding. There is a boardwalk that spans for a few miles along resorts and different restaurants. There are free restrooms with soap included! I absolutely love this beach and you are lucky to get to experience it. read more

The King's Beach Named after Kahekili II, the one-time Hawaiian Chief of Maui, this beach is also known as "Airport Beach" by the locals, as it sits on a road that used to house an airport terminal. The Good: *Huge free parking lot with plenty of shade *Trees with good shade at the edge of the beach; position yourself near one, and you'll have a great spot. *Restroom building w/ showers for washing sandy feet. *Turtles!! Judging by other's reviews and our own experience, there's a pretty good chance you'll see some turtles here. *Great snorkeling area as the reef is literally right there *Picnic area The Meh: *Not the calmest waters we encountered in Maui but not terrible, either. *No alcohol *While the close proximity to the reef is great, it's also not the best beach for wading into as the rocky bottom could tear up your feet; I highly recommend water shoes. The Ugly: *As with pretty much all Maui beaches, you'll find yourself butting up against a resort of some kind with lots of Richie Riches about. Kahekili Beach Park (or Airport Beach) was our go-to beach during our recent stay in Maui. We appreciated that there was so much parking in the space by the Westin. We easily found a space and were able to walk up to the picnic areas and the beach. Right as you enter the beach area, there were a lot of people in the immediate vicinity. If you don't mind and just want to get to the water, you could easily claim a spot and conveniently get to the water right there. Since we wanted to be around a little less people, we walked further down the beach (towards the Royal Lahaina) and found some spaces where there were maybe just 1 or 2 groups around. This beach is so long though, I can't imagine it ever gets *too* crowded. You can walk along the sand and shore, but they also have a paved walkway behind the beach that you can access as well. We also went back to Kahekili Beach Park for a picnic later in our stay. There's lots of picnic tables and seating. But they also have large greenery/grass areas for you to bring your own tents/tables/chairs (which is what our group did). I will say there's not as much coverage on a lot of areas of the beach so if you're looking for shade, you'll have to walk around a bit. But if you're down to tan, this is your place! read more

This is a great beach with shade parking and clean restrooms. There is also tree shade spots or full sun on the sugar type sand. There really aren't waves to speak of. Calm. But snorkel and just get wet , works out fine. No crowd at all. read more

We read many reviews about how wonderful this beach was, so we came here to snorkel, swim, and relax. We came here twice - first day it wasn't too crowded but the second day we came, it was decently busy but not many people in the water. We were here around some rain, so the water was alternating between calm and a bit of choppy water. That being said, it's still one of the best places we've ever been snorkeling. Not many people were out in the water, so we got to explore unhindered. Lots of beautiful coral and fish, and we even found a family of 5 turtles. Beach is great for just sitting out and enjoying the sun (or the shade), too. Nice bathrooms and outdoor shower rinse areas. Parking was a bit difficult when we got here. We had to circle around the parking lot for about 20 minutes to find a spot. Not really any other places to park, either. So just be prepared to wait a bit for a spot to open up. Overall, this beach is a great stop for good snorkeling and relaxation. It delivers on what one would picture as a Hawai'i beach. read more

While my experience at the resort wasn't all that great, the local beach that it was attached to was nothing short of perfect! Kahekili Beach Park is located just steps away from the string of Westin timeshare resorts. During our stay here it was never super packed, and the was a hot spot for those looking to snorkel and swim. Coming from the Bay Area where the water is way too cold to get into without a wetsuit, the water temperature here is the right amount of cold to cure any hangover. If you are like me, not much of a swimmer, be careful because the depth can change quickly and the under current is strong in some points. Even though there aren't a ton of waves crashing. As always practice caution when entering the ocean. It did get pretty windy in the afternoon but that didn't stop us from enjoying it in all it's beauty. Stayed in Kihei but well worth the 45 min drive. Perfect snorkel spot. Easy parking. Relatively clean bathrooms, showers. Grassy area. Some shaded areas. Long beach, easy to find a spot. Snorkeling is just a few yards in from shore, easy for kids, if you get tired just swim back to shore. Lots of fish and a few turtles. Coral is not healthy, go a little farther out and coral looks better. read more

Easy to access beach with soft sand and good snorkeling. We got there at 830 and the parking lot was wide open. We found a spot on the beach and into the water we went. Almost immediately there was an eel. The nice thing about this beach is the shallow entrance without lots of rocks, great for beginners or kids. Also plenty of chances to go a lot deeper. We saw octopus, puffers, and other cool stuff that the kids were happy to spend the morning swimming around looking at. It wasn't crowded on this Thursday. Would definitely recommend checking this out. Also has views of Black Rock and a nice greenspace if you wanted to stay off the sand read more

Love this beach! I live 5 mins drive away and visit often. It is a popular beach with tourists staying at the hotels lining it, with SCUBA dive schools on the West side, and locals. Keep your eyes on the surface too as you might spot a local pod of spinner dolphins racing along hunting fish, or during whale season you will see splashes and if you are lucky some breaches too. There is a decent sized main car park, but get there early as it fills up quickly on sunny days, plus it offers amenities such as restrooms, bbq pits, seating, trash containers and a shower. An expanse of grass is an alternative to the sandy beach and there are a few trees for shade. If you get the munchies there are a few restaurants within walking distance at the hotels too. It might not be the most scenic or the best snorkeling beach on Maui but it is definitely one of my favorites and I think most Yelp reviewers agree with me....it is a beautiful relaxing beach :) read more

Easy parking, easy access to the beach, loads of fish, not too crowded. What's not to like: only one foot shower and no full showers. We liked this beach for snorkeling way better than Honolua Bay which was the top choice of a snorkeling site but had a damp hike and slippery rocks not sand and slightly fewer fish to see. read more

We came here to do what I love most about being at a beach....SNORKEL! We got a tip from a local to come here, along with a number of other places. We came here expecting a full parking lot and that wasn't the case. We parked our rental under one of many shady parking spots. The beach area has lots of shady areas as well for those not wanting to look like lobster after a day of sunning, like my hubs! I tan easily, he burns instantly. The beach itself has a lot of great snorkel areas, lots of coral here with abundant sea life. We saw lots of Moray Eels, and a number of different tropical fish. Along with a great beach area there are lots of picnic and barbecue areas. Along with shower and bathrooms. All in all, I think this was a great spot for sun and snorkel. read more

Near perfect snorkel spot. You see enough fish to supply a Long John Silver's for the next century. The variety and the water clarity and the rocks are all gorgeous and it makes you want to come back almost every single day. You'll see some fish that you'll spend forever googling once you get home. Amazing beach for snorkeling, with fresh water showers, clean bathrooms, trash cans, nice lawn and soft sand. ONE HUGE PROBLEM: locals regularly bringing dogs to the beach. Dogs swim along with people and then piss and shit on the sand and lawn just inches away from people! Owners are oblivious and don't think it's a problem. The beach is In front of some very nice hotels, so you'd this that someone would be patrolling to enforce order and cleanliness to keep up the hotel brand. Nope! When I pointed to the owner that their dog just pissed right next to us and said that I would never bring a dog to a beach like this, the owner nonchalantly replied "My dogs comes here every day!" My family (wife and two girls ages 5 & 7) visited this beach while we vacationed in Lahaina for the holidays. It's a very long beach where there was a Westin and just one or two other resort properties nearby. If you are staying at one of these properties you have direct and easy access. We were not and we drove there. There was plenty of parking in the parking lot. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the beach was not as crowded as Ka'anapali Beach which we had visited the day prior. In fact, it was nice to see a mix of locals and tourists. The beach was amazing and the view was spectacular. This beach had no rocks or coral which our girls really enjoyed. Additionally there were bathrooms for changing, lots of showers for rinsing off and covered picnic benches. We ended up going a 2nd time and both times we stayed until the evening and watched the most amazing sunset. This beach was really really great and because it was not crowded we could very easily maintain social distance due to covid. This was overall one of best beach experiences I have ever had. read more

This beach is beautiful and conveniently located close to one of the resorts that I was hanging out at. I hung out at this beach the first night I was in Maui and got a good view of the sunset. It was the middle of the week, later in the day, and the beach was empty. I had the entire beach to myself. All I was missing was my partner-in-crime aka my partner-in-dine aka my partner-in-climb. She was definitely missed. The beach is completely different during the day and towards the end of the week. This is when the beach gets full of vacationers swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, or just laying out. I also witness few dolphins and whales doing what they do best in the ocean. Cool Stuff!! TIP #1: The water is shallow by the beach, but watch your step because a few spots have huge ocean floor drops. The ocean floor can be 5 feet to 15 feet within a couple of steps. TIP #4: I do not work here. I repeat. I do not work here. Even when I'm trying to relax at the beach, tourist approach me to order drinks, ask about the lu'au prices, ask about scuba lessons, etc. One guy even ask me where the nearest beach was. My wife and I stayed at the The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas, which is situated just behind this beach. The hotel was telling us this is one of the best Hawaii beaches. I totally disagree! That is just a phrase to talk about the resort thinking they have the best snorkel spot on all the islands! Not a chance! I snorkeled a good portion of this and I found it to be more murky then other Hawaiian beaches and a very limited amount of tropical fish! I saw one turtle! Part of the vast and world famous Kaanapali Beach, Kahekili Beach Park is right in between the Westin and The Maui Kaanapali Villas. Turqoise water, golden sand, and views of Lanai and Molokai come with easily accessible covered picnic areas, parking, restrooms, and showers. Ahhh.... paradise. What's so awesome about this part of Kaanapali Beach besides the gentle waves for easy paddle boarding, swimming,or just doing nothing in the sun, is the snorkeling. You can people watch too but I think Oahu is best for that. Perfectly aligned with the picnic areas is a snorkel area perfect for beginners. You literally can go knee deep in the water and be right on the reef/coral with coral fishes nibbling on your toes. Mrs G isn't a good swimmer but she was able to see tropical fish just by dipping her head into the less than knee deep water using my snorkel mask. The turqoise water is just so clear with fantastic visibility. I wish I had an underwater camera. Watching all the fish especially the triggerfish interact with each was my favorite. It was like I was swimming in an aquarium. Definitely made the vacay. Oh, there's a shack to rent snorkel gear right in front of the Maui Kaanapali villas hotel (make a left on the beach from the picnic areas and it's about 125 feet away) $5/hr for a snorkel set. I liked that it never felt overly crowded. Just an awesome place to smell like salt water the whole day. I like this beach a lot. The snorkeling is the best I've found on the Island and only feet away from the shoreline. There is a nice grassy area to hang out and palm trees to seek shade. There are a few overhanging trees too so one can set up chairs and get out of the sun. The water is so so clear. We have seen so many different kind of wildly colorful tropical fish. You feel like you are swimming in an aquarium. It makes you feel like you live somewhere really special. There is a pavilion with picnic tables, grills, bathrooms and showers . You can always go to the Westin or any of the nearby hotels for a bite to eat. read more

Awesome beach! Great for laying out, playing in the water, snorkeling, and even introduction scuba diving. Once in the water the ocean floor has a steady and quick drop off, like 15 feet at only 20 ft from the shore, which is great for the intro scuba divers. There's a decent amount of coral, fish, and other marine life which makes it great for the intro divers and snorkelers. Beware: the waves tend to break near the shore and can have a strong under toe. Located near the Westin Ocean Resort Villas NOT the Westin Resort & Spa. My husband and I drove around looking for this park based on reviews of it's location and finally asked for directions. Locals mostly know it as Airport Beach. Parking was abundant but we did arrive by 9am. Facilities were great with tables, benches, bathrooms, showers, and grassy areas if you don't prefer the sandy beach. It was a little bit of a walk to the Black Rock area from the parking lot... probably more noticeable since both of us had full hands of beach gear. The beach wasn't nearly as crowded closer to Black Rock as it was near the parking lot so I'd say it's worth it to trek down a ways. Easy access for snorkeling but it was so-so. We saw fish and coral but the clarity was not great and we weren't able to swim around to the other side of Black Rock to Kaanapali Beach. Better snorkeling at Po'olenalena Beach. read more

hubby and I were there in Sept 2013 Drove around and tried to find a safe snorkel place after we passed the murky Honolua Bay. This quaint beach was right next to The Westin Maui Resort & Spa. Safe parking lot, public restroom. mature crowd, nice white sand beach to get in and out of water. No slipper rock! It was beyond great to easy snorkle. This is a nice part of the Kaanapali Beach, it has a great restroom area with showers and a covered picnic area. When we were visiting there was a Hawaiian Monk Seal sunning on the beach. There is a pretty decent size off street parking lot right next to the Westin and nice views of Moloka'i and Lana'i from the beach. If you need a bite to eat, walk across the highway to Shark Pit Tacos, it's totally worth it and a very close walk. From this park you can access the beach walk and practically walk the entire span of Kaanapali Beach. read more

The beach/snorkeling area is a nice, simple place to get into the swing of Island time. Parking is simple, with lots of spots and no fees. The beach is nice and sandy, not at all rocky, which is great for getting into the water without slippery rock hopping. Not far out is a baby reef, with submerged rocks and little brain corals growing. There are plenty of fish about, and we got to see a solitary turtle munching on the reef. read more

I really like this beach. It is right on the boardwalk path. It has decent parking with bathrooms. Not a lot of shade, but if you get there early you can get some of the tree shade. The water is really clear in this area and you can see lots of reef fish when snorkeling. It can get busy in mid-day or late afternoon. read more

We wished we had found this beach earlier in our trip. We had previously fought the crowds at Kapalua and the parking issues Black Rock. Neither issue here. They have a pretty big public parking lot and the beach is big with plenty of places to sit and setup with your family. We rented our gear from Snorkel Bob's and had a great time at the beach. The fish were beautiful. And we saw a turtle here as well. We got there about 9am and there were plenty of places to park. By the time we were leaving at about noon, there were still places to park. I couldn't really believe it after we had fought the crowds at other beaches. Go here. And pass on Kapalua Bay -- not worth the crowds and no parking there..... read more

This is probably one of the better beaches in the Ka'anapali area of Maui. One of the biggest challenges with the beaches in this area is that if you are not staying at a hotel in front of the beach, you'll have to drive. Driving isn't the hard part, but finding parking is. Black Rock beach is very popular (and nearby), BUT the parking spaces allocated for the public are minimal, which means you are SOL. This beach has plenty of parking, restrooms, picnic tables, outdoor shower, and the beach itself is very long. The drop off is quick, just be aware of that. Snorkeling is pretty decent, probably the best on the West side of the island (best snorkeling overall is down South). This beach is great for just about everyone - small kids will have fun, old kids and adults too. read more
