Kahekili Beach Park

The King's Beach Named after Kahekili II, the one-time Hawaiian Chief of Maui, this beach is also known as "Airport Beach" by the locals, as it sits on a road that used to house an airport terminal. The Good: *Huge free parking lot with plenty of shade *Trees with good shade at the edge of the beach; position yourself near one, and you'll have a great spot. *Restroom building w/ showers for washing sandy feet. *Turtles!! Judging by other's reviews and our own experience, there's a pretty good chance you'll see some turtles here. *Great snorkeling area as the reef is literally right there *Picnic area The Meh: *Not the calmest waters we encountered in Maui but not terrible, either. *No alcohol *While the close proximity to the reef is great, it's also not the best beach for wading into as the rocky bottom could tear up your feet; I highly recommend water shoes. The Ugly: *As with pretty much all Maui beaches, you'll find yourself butting up against a resort of some kind with lots of Richie Riches about. TLDR: Great beach for snorkeling, turtle spotting, and a great day of fun in the sun.

Stayed in Kihei but well worth the 45 min drive. Perfect snorkel spot. Easy parking. Relatively clean bathrooms, showers. Grassy area. Some shaded areas. Long beach, easy to find a spot. Snorkeling is just a few yards in from shore, easy for kids, if you get tired just swim back to shore. Lots of fish and a few turtles. Coral is not healthy, go a little farther out and coral looks better.

We came here to do what I love most about being at a beach....SNORKEL! We got a tip from a local to come here, along with a number of other places. We came here expecting a full parking lot and that wasn't the case. We parked our rental under one of many shady parking spots. The beach area has lots of shady areas as well for those not wanting to look like lobster after a day of sunning, like my hubs! I tan easily, he burns instantly. The beach itself has a lot of great snorkel areas, lots of coral here with abundant sea life. We saw lots of Moray Eels, and a number of different tropical fish. Along with a great beach area there are lots of picnic and barbecue areas. Along with shower and bathrooms. All in all, I think this was a great spot for sun and snorkel.

Simply gorgeous

MAHALO fellow Yelpers for this find! Clean... plenty of space... showers... amazing beach for snorkeling (though the waves are cray cray!) but if you just want to chill and relax... go on right ahead. Probably my go-to beach spot in the island now :)

My family (wife and two girls ages 5 & 7) visited this beach while we vacationed in Lahaina for the holidays. It's a very long beach where there was a Westin and just one or two other resort properties nearby. If you are staying at one of these properties you have direct and easy access. We were not and we drove there. There was plenty of parking in the parking lot. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the beach was not as crowded as Ka'anapali Beach which we had visited the day prior. In fact, it was nice to see a mix of locals and tourists. The beach was amazing and the view was spectacular. This beach had no rocks or coral which our girls really enjoyed. Additionally there were bathrooms for changing, lots of showers for rinsing off and covered picnic benches. We ended up going a 2nd time and both times we stayed until the evening and watched the most amazing sunset. This beach was really really great and because it was not crowded we could very easily maintain social distance due to covid. This was overall one of best beach experiences I have ever had.

This beach is beautiful and conveniently located close to one of the resorts that I was hanging out at. I hung out at this beach the first night I was in Maui and got a good view of the sunset. It was the middle of the week, later in the day, and the beach was empty. I had the entire beach to myself. All I was missing was my partner-in-crime aka my partner-in-dine aka my partner-in-climb. She was definitely missed. The beach is completely different during the day and towards the end of the week. This is when the beach gets full of vacationers swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, or just laying out. I also witness few dolphins and whales doing what they do best in the ocean. Cool Stuff!! TIP #1: The water is shallow by the beach, but watch your step because a few spots have huge ocean floor drops. The ocean floor can be 5 feet to 15 feet within a couple of steps. TIP #4: I do not work here. I repeat. I do not work here. Even when I'm trying to relax at the beach, tourist approach me to order drinks, ask about the lu'au prices, ask about scuba lessons, etc. One guy even ask me where the nearest beach was. My response..."not sure, maybe by the ocean".

Great Beach. Tide is slightly stronger than I'd prefer, but nice snorkeling spot. No turtles.

When we were there for spring break, we were coming off a storm and it was quite rough. Some surfers catching some great barrels which was fun to watch. Other days it was calmer. A ton of snorkelers - I guess there is a few reefs full of fish. It's also adjacent to a sea turtle cove, so you can catch some sea turtles on their way. Overall, a great beach. We saw plenty of fish close to shore, and if you go early in the morning, there's a good chance you'll spot sea turtles cruising through the bay. The beach itself is clean with soft sand, and the cove shape keeps things feeling peaceful compared to some of the busier spots on the island. It's the kind of place where you can easily spend the entire day just unwinding. Parking can be a little tricky, so getting there early is worth it. A great tip is to pair your visit with breakfast or brunch at The Gazebo Restaurant right next door. It's super convenient and makes your morning really efficient--grab a meal, then walk straight onto the beach and enjoy the rest of your day. Whether you're swimming, snorkeling, or just laying out and taking in the view, Napili Bay has that classic Maui magic.

Originally we…read morewere supposed to stay in Lahaina, but because of the rebuilding of the area, we stayed a little further south. I wish I did stay in the area because the whole area is a vibe. It's a little more touristy with resorts and shopping areas, but once you get on the beach you forget all that. Some of our group was already here and gave us specific instructions on where to park. We parked in a paid parking garage and had to walk between hotels to find the entrance to the beach. This particular stretch is in front of the Sheraton Maui Resort. This beach was awesome! Don't get confused like I did and think this was a black sand beach. Black Rock refers to the giant black lava rock going from the beach into the ocean. It's a very popular cliff diving area. In my opinion, you got to have some athletic ability to do the cliff diving. There's two ways to get to the peak of the rock to jump. There's a path from the shore, but you have to do a little climbing with a very sketch path to the top. The other option is to swim in the ocean towards the end of the rock where you have a little ladder to get you up, but you still have to get to the top of the rock. My friends and I decided to do the swim out which in itself was a challenge. One I got close, I decided to be the photographer in the water for when my friends jumped. We hung out in the water for awhile before swimming back to shore. The beach is perfect for lounging around, with soft white sand and crystal clear water. I brought my snorkel and goggles to really appreciate what's under the sea. We stayed out here way longer than we planned because time flies when you are having fun. On my next trip to Maui, I would totally consider staying right on this beach. I will most definitely be back!

I have seen them crowding the turtles (10 ft distance is the law), standing on the swimming turtles to treat them like surf boards, and even approaching the monk seals or blocking their path back to the water (50+ ft is the law). Enjoy this beach responsibly and respect the beautiful wild life that frequent this beach.

This beach is very mobility friendly, all the way from the parking lot to the ocean! Parking is plenty, free, and very close. If you can see a cemetery from the parking lot, have no fear, you're in the right place. I love this beach so much because you can go so far into the ocean and the water will still be at a shallow waist level. You have to go pretty far out to get to a point where you can't stand. The waves also break far out, so ripples at shore are super soft. It is very easy to get in and out of. It's the absolute perfect beach for babies, seniors and everyone in between that likes a very leisurely swim. I couldn't get enough of being in the crystal clear water. The water was cool to touch but on the surface where the sun hit, it was warm, almost like bath water! I miss this feeling so much. There's also lots of room, it was not too busy nor flooded with people. There are both sunny and tree shaded areas. We came here at least a handful of times during my short time in Maui. I highly encourage and recommend time to be spent here. I am absolutely dreaming about my return to this beach!

I also took my baby here. The water was shallow and without waves so it was easy for kids to play. The bad: This wasn't the cleanest beach. The sand has a dirty appearance that is kind of mud-like. The fence area is a bit run down and there was debris/trash around. The water looked murky during the time I went. It was quite crowded when I came. Parking can be difficult. The interesting: The beach/sand area is pretty short so it makes it easy for you to walk in, settle down and get to the water without having to carry tons of heavy beach gear far.
