Driven by here numerous times over the years. Never stopped. Some local friends suggested this beach today due to it being a busy holiday weekend and trying to avoid the touristy spots. It was mostly locals which is a huge plus. Mellow, calm water spot. Not a lot of beach front but lots of shade. We did snorkel. Be careful, lots of coral to navigate in shallow water. Pack out your garbage. I didn't even see a garbage can.

    Perfect day for a snorkel

Sandy easily accessible beach for snorkeling . The further out from the beach you swim the better. Lots of turtles! Seems to be a lot calmer than other areas on the island during the winter

Best snorkeling place! Perfect for the kids. Water not too deep, calm waves, fish by shore due to beautiful coral.

Review of Kayak Olowalu - January 8, 2025 I typically don't…read morewrite reviews, but after my recent experience with Kayak Olowalu, I felt it necessary to share my concerns. I've been a loyal customer since 2012 and have always had positive experiences, but this particular tour was deeply troubling. When I visit Maui and book kayak snorkling excursions, I only book it with this company. Willy's Disrespectful Behavior: The tour began smoothly, but things quickly went awry when my husband started feeling motion sickness. He informed Willy that he wasn't feeling well and decided to return to shore. Willy asked if he was going to tow us back, referring to me and my daughter. My husband said "no..they can stay". After my husband left, Willy began mocking him with exaggerated voices, laughing at his discomfort with one of the guests. This made both my daughter and me feel very uncomfortable. Willy's Unusual Behavior: As the other guests moved on to the next snorkeling location, Willy became increasingly erratic. He threw his anchor into his kayak with unnecessary force and started letting out this loud, uncontrollable, exaggerated laugh. My daughter and I were left alone with Willy, and his behavior started to feel unsafe. Willy took my daughter's paddle away and started towing us without any request from me, and shortly after we started paddling toward the new snorkeling location, he unexpectedly turned the entire group around. He then complained that he had to turn the group around because of the extra effort of towing us. I told him it wasn't necessary to tow us, we can manage ourselves. I noticed we were heading back to the meet-up spot on shore and asked if he was taking us back. He confirmed that he was. At that point, it was clear that he no longer wanted us on his tour, and frankly, we felt unsafe, so I was okay with ending the tour early. Despite my repeated requests to paddle back on our own, Willy insisted on towing us, exaggerating his grunting noises as if the effort was overwhelming. I told him he didn't have to leave the other people and we can find our way back and I pointed at the building on shore to make sure that's where I should go. He claimed it would be impossible for me to paddle both of us back alone and blamed my daughter repeatedly, saying, "WE ARE IN A SITUATION...WE ARE IN A SITUATION!... BECAUSE OF YOUR DAUGHTER. SHE LOST HER PADDLE!" I explained that my daughter hadn't lost her paddle--he had taken it from her--and assured him that we could manage on our own if he simply returned it. Nevertheless, Willy continued towing us, making disturbing noises the entire way back. As we paddled back, I asked for his name. He turned around, smirked, and rudely responded with, "I don't recall," then ignored me when I asked again. His behavior was bizarre, unprofessional, and deeply unsettling. Willy's Lack of Care for Other Guests: When we returned to shore, I asked Willy for his name again in front of my husband, and he reluctantly provided it. I had to ask him 4 times before he told me! I asked why he had treated us so poorly and ended our tour early and he sarcastically said twice, "You should be out there with your man!" It was clear that my husband's early departure had upset him, and he was taking his frustration out on us. Willy was in such a hurry to leave that he quickly unlocked the shed for us to retrieve our belongings and told us to lock it up while walking away. And he left the keys to the shed with us! We locked it and left the key in the lock. He seemed more concerned with getting away from us than ensuring the safety of the remaining guests. From a distance, I saw that he had left the other three guests stranded in the middle of the sea. Voicing Concerns and Seeking Resolution: Recognizing the need to address the situation, I approached a staff member about filing a formal complaint. Tiara, a staff member in a golf cart, overheard and immediately approached with genuine concern. She quickly contacted Kayak Supervisor Tim, who came out to speak with me directly. Despite my frustration, both Tiara and Tim listened attentively and with respect. Tiara went above and beyond to resolve the issue, offering a refund as a fair solution. She explained that it was only right to refund customers who didn't receive the service they had paid for. Her professionalism, thoughtful response, and commitment to customer satisfaction were deeply appreciated. Tiara assured me that the situation would be taken seriously and addressed accordingly. Conclusion: My experience was disappointing and infuriating due to Willy's behavior, which was so absurd it felt like a scene from a movie. I've never been treated like this, and it was frustrating beyond words. I urge the company to take this seriously, as allowing bad behavior to continue will harm their reputation. I've seen another negative review specifically naming Willy, and I hope the company addresses it before it leads to further damage.

I did the tent camping option for $36 a night. Tent-a-lows are about $165 a night. I came around valentines day February 2026. The temperature is 65F low, 75-80F high. The night was super windy for a tent, but was only windy between 6-9pm, meaning 20-25 mph winds. If you can hold out at that time, it was calm winds all night afterwards. Next time, I may prefer doing a car camping site, which comes with a picnic table, and there are around 20 sites near the gate. I may also prefer a tent-a-low in order to not pack a tent, sleeping pad. They are also less windy, as they are located farther from the beach. Pros: - private beach - it was prime whale watching season, but i was the only one on the beach. 95% of the tent sites were occupied, I believe all the tent-a-lows were occupied. - hot showers, no roof...but it's great - clean and nice bathrooms with a roof - free coffee and hot water in the morning. Get it when it opens at 7:00am, cuz it will run out in 15-20 minutes - plenty of parking - approx. 35-40 minutes from Kahului Airport - super fun to rent an E-bike from Krank Cycles, and ride south to Olowalu. It was pretty. You can ride E-bike through the campsite. It wasn't as pretty to ride north from Krank Cycles to Lahaina to Honokowai Beach, but all good. Cons: - getting to some of the more remote sites was hard with a roller luggage. I stayed at Tent Site 25, which was lovely, but the rolling luggage had to go over dirt, which is ok, but bark chip piles - hard to find tent site at night. Arrive in daylight if you can. It's impossible to navigate at night or find the restroom - they staff is really accomodating, and even took my call at 1:00am as that is my arrival time. - It is approximately 15 minute car drive to Lahaina dock for whale watching, and 35-40 minutes from Kahului airport - there are not much cons I had such a pleasant experience, I'll be back for sure!

All other tours we looked into were booked, and we were facing the possibility of not being able to fully experience one of the most beautiful of all the islands - Maui. We couldn't have known at the time that our tour being canceled was actually very good luck! Because after searching online, we found Maui Boy Tours, and Greg! We were actually referred to Greg by another guide, who said that Greg was one of the best - and the only other guide he recommends. And we soon found out why. Greg picked us up at our ship and took us on our own, private, CUSTOMIZED FOR US Hana tour. And it was nothing short of amazing! Greg is a wonderful guy, a fantastic guide, and you can tell that Maui is in his soul. Maui, of course, is breathtakingly beautiful. But Greg showed us more than just the beauty of the island. He told us that if you listen, Maui speaks to you. And he was right. We visited all of the most famous sights, of course. But also some lesser known attractions like a stunning botanical garden and the best fresh-baked banana bread on the island. We had a truly once in a lifetime day. We are forever grateful. And the best part is, we made a lifelong friend. Thank you, Greg, for sharing your beautiful aloha with us. We will never forget it!

A few minutes after we pulled up, the instructor, Kua greeted us. After he asked who was Spearfishing, he then immediately said, "do you EVEN know what you guys are getting yourself into?". My friends were two ladies who he kept sizing up. He made us all feel uncomfortable about being first timers (even though this lesson was for beginners) and that he was going to have to babysit the ladies. During the first hour of instructions and training, he continuously made comments about other past people who have come along the trip. Stating things such as how he has never had two ladies on the trip together before, how he isn't judgmental or stereotyping, but then would say he was surprised by how a couple 300 lb fat men did a good job fishing, or how most couples go but it's mainly the women who tag along with their husbands, or how women aren't as good so they aren't as ambitious as the men. How incredibly sexist. He was trying to state he wasn't stereotyping but made stereotyping remarks. There is absolutely no excuse this place can come up to justify the comments they made to a couple of beginners that were simply excited to try spear fishing. Ladies, stay away.

We stayed at an AirBnB here for eight days during spring break, and the place was fine for the most part, but the community it's in definitely run by people who most likely relocated from Argentina via Germany. The Good: *The community is well-kept and clean. *No matter where you stay here, you're only a few minutes walk away from ocean views. *And speaking of the ocean, there's also several beach access points. We never accessed them, but my parents did, and they said it was nice. *Pickleball/Tennis courts and three pools--including one by the ocean. *About a one-mile walk to Downtown Lahaina *Easy access to and from the Honoapi'ilani Hwy The Meh: *Staff at the Clubhouse weren't the friendliest people I've dealt with. *$10/day parking fee for a 2nd vehicle. Also, be sure to register your vehicles ASAP because I have a feeling they're on top of that. No evidence but call it a hunch. The Ugly: *$30/day to use the gym. No, that's not a misprint. *Lots of rules that only a grouchy old fuck would think of, like no using your car fob to lock your doors because of the chirps. *The pools are basically "No Fun" zones for kids. No laughing, no screaming, no running, and--for God's sake--"NO MARCO POLO," as one sign had to remind us. TLDR: Nice, albeit pricey, place to stay while visiting Maui. Fortunately, we don't stay at our base camp for long as we'd rather be out-and-about so their no fun police didn't really affect our vacation.

Two days prior to our arrival, the host emailed us to inform us that the AC unit was not working…read more They gave us the option of cancelling, but it was spring break, and likely there were no other options of finding somewhere else to stay. They told us the AC would be working by Monday. We opted to keep our reservation. The AC was not fixed until Wednesday, and we had these portable units in just the bedrooms, which were really inconvenient as the exhaust was piped through the windows and patio doors of our master bedroom so we couldn't really use the upstairs lanai - which is one of the reasons I chose this unit. Very disappointing. When the HVAC contractor came to fix he told me he didn't think these AC units had been working for "quite some time" so I felt like we were lied to and the property manager/owner had known about the issue way prior to our arrival. The unit itself is absolutely beautiful and I loved the open floor plan of the kitchen and living room. FYI there is not direct beach access as it looks. You have to walk down about a block in order to access the beach which was also disappointing. The pool was about 3 blocks from the rental. Quite the walk with all your items and a 10 month old baby and 2 kids. On Wednesday, there was some construction going on and without warning, our water was shut off at 8am. Apparently they had a planned outage but didn't notify anyone of this until about 9:30. Again, we were caught off guard and it's very difficult when you have small children with you and no water. When I called, the management company would not give me any sort of time frame on the fix and basically said sorry we don't know what to tell you. The beach was also very high surf, and not just due to the weather. The slope was very steep and not really suitable for swimming. So if you are going here with the intention of walking the beach or snorkeling, this is not the place. Tons of ants in the kitchen and even some in the bedrooms, really should get some sort of exterminator for that. This was our 4th trip to Maui, and the most I have spent on a rental, and I would say it's the most disappointed I have been. I will not rent from the Puamana rental units again. I also had called the Puamana Property management company when our water was shut off and the woman who answered the phone was extremely rude and told me she would have maintenance bring me water and they never did. She said it wasn't her problem and to contact my property owner, but Maui Vacation rentals told me to contact her. Overall just not very happy with how we were treated.
