Kids 9 and 12 absolutely loved this beach. The cliff jumping is really fun and cool. The beach is really big and crowded. The waves were big and the kids could boogie board. The only downside is the parking. It is so hard to find anywhere to park and you will walk far!

The best beach we went to in Maui. The sand is soft and the beach is very clean. There's a good amount of space on the beach itself so you'll have choices on where you want to lay, but beware it is popular so it will get busier later in the day. Great choice for snorkeling, the water is clear and there's a good amount of coral and fish to go around. We saw a small group of sea turtles resting when we went a bit further out into the water so that was a huge plus. All around a great beach and we recommend it to those visiting and staying in West Maui.

We came here for the good time! It was windy day but this place was shielded very well be sure of the black rock We got to see many schools of fish over there! :) Water was very clean and beautiful! Love snorkeling here for sure! We'll be back again! Cheers

Great spot to do some snorkeling and numerous types of fish were spotted along with a monk seal sunning herself on the beach and turtles frolicking in the surf.

It's an okay spitting snorkel. Especially good if you don't want to pay a good sum of money for an excursion. The better snorkeling is around the corner from the divers. There's some nice volcanic outcroppings with a decent number and variety of fish.

This is among my favorites. It's close to my airbnb. Park at the Sheraton parking garage. We spent a good 3-4 hours here and spent $20something. I like this spot because you can swim in the sandy area and snorkel near the rocks to the right. Lots of fishes and sea turtles. There is little to no shade, so bring umbrellas. The sand is very hot. If it's not tolerable, wear shoes/sandals. The waves are strong but not choppy.

This is one of the popular beaches that popped up in our search. In the background of the photos you see a cluster of black rocks that feed into the ocean. The beach is beautiful and was not well populated. The sand had a smooth texture. We only stopped by for photos and didn't stay long. Parking was very limited so we had to pay to park in the resort nearby. This would have been a very nice beach to stay at if parking wasn't an issue. Fees were $2 for every 20 minutes. We stayed for about 30 minutes and paid $4.

Lovely beach in Lahaina! I came here 2 years ago right before Thanksgiving and it was beautiful to say the least! Super long overdue review, yes, I know! It was my first time in Maui, even though I grew up on O'ahu, lol. I always heard about how nice and relaxing it is on neighbor islands, and now I know it's true!! I don't hit up the beaches very much, but my sister's friend came along for the ride, and he knows all the hot spots. Idk how parking works here, but he found aome random spot near a construction site, haha! We came here to chill out and just enJOY the simple island life. We found the perfect spot where we had shade from trees, but also sunlight when we wanted it. Bring all the necessities, including grub, booze, and whatever else. Don't forget the SPF!! This is definitely not like the crowds you'll find in Waikiki. Keep it clean, respect da Aina (the land), and have a wonderful time! ;)

Much like other beaches in Maui-- gentle waves, silky white sand, clear water for days. Added bonus: perfect sunset viewing and cliff diving. Black Rock is at the edge of Kaanapali Beach, closest to the Sheraton Resort. At the time of our visit (March), no turtles were seen-- we saw online that their nesting season doesn't start until April-ish. Rinsing stations and restrooms available closer to shore. For some reason, the days we were here there were a couple drone operators whizzing their drones all over the places-- kind of obnoxious if you're trying to relax to sea sounds.

The Black Rock Beach, aka Pu'u Kekaa in Hawaiian, is located at the north end of Ka'anapali Beach, and it lies an outcropping of lava rock. It's a great spot during sunset time, which could get very windy and cold, as on the west side of Maui, just about 10 minutes north of the historic whaling village.

This beach is what you picture when you close your eyes and think of a typical Maui beach. Endless white sand, lots of space to lay out on, beautiful water, and a notable geographic feature. We had a wonderful time relaxing here. It also helped that the Sheraton had a restaurant/bar a few steps away for all refueling needs.

Black Rock Beach was recommended to us by the concierge at the resort we were staying at, Marriott's Maui Ocean Club (https://www.yelp.com/biz/marriotts-maui-ocean-club-molokai-maui-and-lanai-towers-lahaina-maui), as well as by Megan at Aqualani Beach & Ocean Recreation (https://www.yelp.com/biz/aqualani-beach-and-ocean-recreation-kihei) in front of the resort. My wife and I broke off from the rest of the family and made the roughly one-mile, 20-minute walk, beachside, from our resort to Black Rock Beach. The short walk was worth it and I'm glad we went. Black Rock Beach is named after the large, dark, "black" lava rock outcroppings at the north end of Ka'anapali Beach (https://www.yelp.com/biz/kaanapali-beach-lahaina). As you walk north along the beach, you literally hit a wall of lava rock - Black Rock - and can't go any farther. Black Rock is a popular place to go cliff jumping, snorkeling, and kayaking. It's at the end of a row of resorts, the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa being the closest. You will see a lot of resort guests sunbathing and swimming in the area too (ourselves included). This part of Ka'anapali Beach has wide areas to spread out and relax. During our Thursday afternoon visit around 2:30-3:00pm, it was crowded, but not completely slammed. My wife and I preferred snorkeling off the Ka'anapali Beach coast in front of the Marriott instead of next to Black Rock because there were far less people. We did see different types of fish near Black Rock, but the snorkeling experience wasn't any better. Outside the Marriott, it almost felt like we had our own quiet, private stretch of beach. We swam with a green sea turtle there, but didn't run into one here. There might've been too many people and I'm sure all the activity from the cliff jumpers didn't help. I also realize a lot of it is just luck what you might see. Regardless, Black Rock, Black Rock Beach, and the views both above and below water were beautiful and we enjoyed our time here. If you snorkel, I do recommend wearing flippers to make swimming more efficient. If you kayak, you can kayak to a hidden cove around the rock. You can't see the cove from the beach. You can swim to the cove too, but it's only recommended for advanced swimmers. The water gets deep quickly. My wife borrowed my sister's snorkel gear and I rented my own set from Aqualani, linked above. My set cost just under $30 for the day. Aqualani is about a mile away. There's probably a closer option if you want to rent some gear.

Is there still free parking for here?

You can park at the Whaler Village shopping parking lot and walk to Black Rock.

Are there firepits on the beach?

Last time I was there was 2 years ago. I didn't see any and I walked a good portion of it. =/

Is there a volleyball court here?

    None that I have seen.

    Is it free Parking?

Yes! There is a garage Parking at the Sheraton that is open and free to the public. If is a few few from whalers village

Is this beach safe for children?

It would depend on surf conditions. The area right by Black Rock is usually a little more shallow but ultimately this beach is not enclosed so use your judgement based on your children's swimming abilities.

Any rental snorkeling gear available on the beach?

When I was there in October, I didn't see any vendors.

Kapalua Coastal Trail - Kapalua Bay Public Beach Parking You can plug in Kapalua Bay Public Beach Parking on Google Maps, but free parking is very limited. We drove in circles around 11:50am and couldn't find a single spot! Paid parking nearby was $20, and some restaurants had valet for $10. A little pricey just for a short hike, so we kept looking for other options. 2. Free Parking - Cliff House This lot is inside the Montage Kapalua Bay resort, but only about 10 spaces are actually free. We got lucky after waiting 10+ minutes and snagged a spot. From here, heading left takes you toward the Kapalua Bay side, passing Cliff House, Namalu Bay viewpoint, and Kapalua Bay Beach. After looping back, we continued right toward the Dragon's Teeth Trail. 3. Dragon's Teeth Trail The entrance has a small free parking lot right next to the Ritz-Carlton. Again, spots are super limited, and by the time we got there around 2pm, it was completely full. The trail takes you past Ironwood Cliffs and Oneloa Beach before reaching Dragon's Teeth. 4. Makaluapuna Ridge Trail This section continues further past Dragon's Teeth, but we didn't do this part. **Tips from our walk (123): * Switch Google Maps to satellite view to spot small parking lots. * Free parking is scarce, just come earlier if you can. * Kapalua Bay Beach & Oneloa Beach sections are sandy and flat, good for swimming and easy walking. * Dragon's Teeth is rocky, sneakers are way better than sandals. * Bring water, hat, and sunglasses. Even though it was only mid-70s (F), there's zero shade, and I ended up with a sunburned scalp after 2+ hours because I skipped my hat. Overall, this trail is short and easy, but because it runs through luxury resorts and golf courses, expect crowds. Still, the coastal views are stunning and definitely worth adding to your Maui itinerary.
