Honokōwai Beach - Lahaina, Maui, Hawai'i
    John D.

Get Beached Out 4.6-acre beach front located about twenty minutes north of DT Lahaina along Maui's western shore. *Free parking *Picnic areas w/ one BBQ *Playground for the kiddies *Restrooms w/ one outdoor shower *Across the street from a coffee shop and grocery store that sells sammiches and açaí bowls, so food shouldn't be an issue here. *Dog-friendly *Other reviews claim they've seen sea turtles, and it's good for snorkeling, but we didn't see/do either. The Meh: *Water seemed awful rocky, but to be fair, we might've been there at low tide. The Ugly: *One account I read stated that the reef here has deteriorated from years past, and there aren't as many fish in the area as there used to be. :( TLDR: Nice beach that wasn't busy at all when we visited. Definitely check it out if you're in the area.

Playground - temporarily closed December 2022. Sign says they're waiting for a new playground!

Honokowai Park has a small, simple playground with swings but the playground was under construction when we visited in December 2022. The location is great because it's right next to the beach, so little ones can play at the playground (hopefully it will reopen soon) and in the sand/water. There is a parking lot and you can also walk across the street to shop at the Farmers Market (smoothies, sandwiches, salads) and grab a cup of coffee. Super convenient for families!

What a gem of a beach park just north of the usually more crowded resort beaches along the Ka'anapali side of the island. My husband and I walked here daily, and often multiple times a day, to dine with a view, walk on the beach, or simply to just stop and stare at the incredible ocean. We even spotted a couple of Honu (Hawaiian Sea Turtles) swimming in the waves a couple of times! It's a small, simple, yet gorgeous beach, with beautiful trees lining the sand to provide some shade and even frame the ocean views. The park itself has a nice, wide grassy area, a swing set for the keiki (kids), a jungle gym with slides, restrooms, picnic tables, and a parking lot right off of Lower Honoapiilani Rd.

Small beach park in the area of Maui farmers market and bad ass coffee shop. Has Some kids play area and access to beach. They have restrooms too. Beach is not so maintained though. It was little dirty and not so appealing to attract crowds. Good to sit and enjoy coffee but can't recommend more than that.

If I had little kids this would be a fun park to bring them for a day of playgrounds, Sand and gentle waves. We spotted 2 large turtles here behind the corals as well. We were shopping at the farmer's market across the street when we came upon this picturesque beach view. It's definitely a nice spot for photos if you want to risk wading the waters(which I did) and standing on the coral reef that perfect shot. I do love getting great photos!

Such a great little park with picnic benches and play area for kids, including a public restroom

This is a small beach park in the area of Maui farmers market and Bad Ass Coffee shop. Has Some kids play area, picnic benches, and access to the beach. Important to note, they have restrooms too. Beach is not very sandy, it's more of a shelf during low tide. Good spot to sit and enjoy coffee or bring food for a picnic. I like the chill vibe of this sleepy park.

If you want soft breaking waves to listen to and excellent shade protection, this is it. Easy parking. Nice grass field before the water. Peaceful and calm. I'll be here an hour or so.

I stayed in Lahaina for a week at the Aina Nalu. I did many fun activities out there, saw many gorgeous places for my first time in Hawaii. And I must say. This place- this park. It absolutely stole my heart. Something about it being a normal park where I could lay down on a towel and feel the breeze and sun peering through the trees leaves on my skin, and as I sat up... it was just this gorgeous, crystal ocean with the mountain's horizon. Hearing families enjoy themselves and children play, as the waves crash. Nothing like it. I went back there twice, but the first time I'd went there was too memorable. I never wanted to leave. Please go here and let go of all your worries like I did, just for that time being. Beautiful setting. We found parking. There's showers to rinse yourself off and the restrooms were insanely clean. And I had the most amazing smoothie from right across the street. I love this place.

I've been coming here since I was a baby. I have loved this beach more than any other because it is right across the street from the Farmers Market store and the actual market in the parking lot. I love this place so much I can even explain it. Great place to go in the AM during low tide and catch baby fish etc in the dead coral. All I ask is if you go, keep it clean!

Perfect random spot near Kaanapali to view the sunset! I found this spot on the last night in Maui for our honeymoon & we did a nice successful sunset photoshoot. It was awesome! You have to come here

Honokowai park sits directly in front of farmers market and in the heart of the Napili, Kahana, Kapalua, Kaanapali and of course Honokawai. I am fortunate to live so close to this park where the crowds are small except on weekends. I walk my 2 dogs their daily so I know many of the shop people and "regulars" which makes the park unique and special to me. The grass is manicured and the beach is a great place for kids at the shoreline and just a quick dip and swim for others. With Molokai sitting majestically I'm front of the park can be stunning at times and the many natural and beautiful Kodak moments can be spotted here frequently. The rainbows, turtles, seals and the breaching of whales are spotted here so many of the tourist that frequent farmers market and some of the other shops across from the park are frequently seen using their phones to capture the many reminders their in paradise. AlooooooooooHA!

This is a great beach if you want a non crowded place for kids.. There is a store, a coffee shop, a Mexican food/ market across the street. The coral has made a cool little shallow water place good for kids. There are tables and bbqs , bathrooms, and a play place for kids. There's a lot of space in the grass to throw the ball around too...

There are better beaches to spend time at in Maui.

This beach is very mobility friendly, all the way from the parking lot to the ocean! Parking is plenty, free, and very close. If you can see a cemetery from the parking lot, have no fear, you're in the right place. I love this beach so much because you can go so far into the ocean and the water will still be at a shallow waist level. You have to go pretty far out to get to a point where you can't stand. The waves also break far out, so ripples at shore are super soft. It is very easy to get in and out of. It's the absolute perfect beach for babies, seniors and everyone in between that likes a very leisurely swim. I couldn't get enough of being in the crystal clear water. The water was cool to touch but on the surface where the sun hit, it was warm, almost like bath water! I miss this feeling so much. There's also lots of room, it was not too busy nor flooded with people. There are both sunny and tree shaded areas. We came here at least a handful of times during my short time in Maui. I highly encourage and recommend time to be spent here. I am absolutely dreaming about my return to this beach!

I also took my baby here. The water was shallow and without waves so it was easy for kids to play. The bad: This wasn't the cleanest beach. The sand has a dirty appearance that is kind of mud-like. The fence area is a bit run down and there was debris/trash around. The water looked murky during the time I went. It was quite crowded when I came. Parking can be difficult. The interesting: The beach/sand area is pretty short so it makes it easy for you to walk in, settle down and get to the water without having to carry tons of heavy beach gear far.

Weighing in at 3.8-acres, Wahikuli is more of a park/beach hybrid that seems to fit the bill for a few spots here on Maui; as the south end is mostly picnic tables while the north end is a more traditional beach. The Good: *After getting skunked on turtle viewing at just about every beach we went to, we just happened to go for a walk after our meal, and there they were--turtles!! I'm not sure if this is a common occurrence here at Wahikuli, but there were at least half-dozen green sea turtles feeding offshore and making their way to the rocks at the shore. *Picnic tables (covered and uncovered) *Grills *Restrooms w/ outdoor showers *Free parking in three separate lots that total over 100 parking spots *Beach that's (allegedly) a good snorkeling spot *Doesn't seem like a very popular spot as it was pretty much deadsville at lunchtime during spring break week. The Bad: *Uhhh...I got nothing. TLDR: Great park that has pretty much anything and everything one could want from a park: views, bathrooms, beach, turtles, and free!

Or give it 1 star, so no one wants to check it. At the risk of blowing up the spot, this beach/park is a hidden gem. Well, it's not really all that hidden, as the main visitor parking lot for downtown Lehaina, is only a block away. Thankfully, this park is in the opposite direction, so most people (*gasp- tourists) don't venture down that way. Their loss. There is a lack of public beaches in Lehaina, so this park fills that void. The park has a large "tiki" kind of pavilion, perhaps for events. Once you walk past the pavilion, you'll arrive at the beach. It is narrow, so I imagine it could get crammed, if busy. There's a beautiful Banyan Tree growing on the beach, which could provide great shade of desired. The water is fairly shallow, but it's popular for SUP, as it's easy to get out passed the break. There is an incredible view of Lanai island in the distance, making for a great place to watch sunsets. There are a few restaurants that have patios overlooking the beach. We actually witnessed a luau of sorts, while tossing the frisbee. No facilities though.

Originally we…read morewere supposed to stay in Lahaina, but because of the rebuilding of the area, we stayed a little further south. I wish I did stay in the area because the whole area is a vibe. It's a little more touristy with resorts and shopping areas, but once you get on the beach you forget all that. Some of our group was already here and gave us specific instructions on where to park. We parked in a paid parking garage and had to walk between hotels to find the entrance to the beach. This particular stretch is in front of the Sheraton Maui Resort. This beach was awesome! Don't get confused like I did and think this was a black sand beach. Black Rock refers to the giant black lava rock going from the beach into the ocean. It's a very popular cliff diving area. In my opinion, you got to have some athletic ability to do the cliff diving. There's two ways to get to the peak of the rock to jump. There's a path from the shore, but you have to do a little climbing with a very sketch path to the top. The other option is to swim in the ocean towards the end of the rock where you have a little ladder to get you up, but you still have to get to the top of the rock. My friends and I decided to do the swim out which in itself was a challenge. One I got close, I decided to be the photographer in the water for when my friends jumped. We hung out in the water for awhile before swimming back to shore. The beach is perfect for lounging around, with soft white sand and crystal clear water. I brought my snorkel and goggles to really appreciate what's under the sea. We stayed out here way longer than we planned because time flies when you are having fun. On my next trip to Maui, I would totally consider staying right on this beach. I will most definitely be back!
