This place is a Douglas gem! We were visiting town and staying at an Airbnb within walking distance so we popped in on a Saturday night for a few glasses of wine and food. The space is comfortable with seating options indoors and outside for groups of all sizes. Everything here is small plate/appetizers, but all perfect pairings for their selections of wine and beer. They also offered mixed drinks but we didn't try any of those. We sampled two different bruschetta and both were flavorful and garden fresh. Don't miss the Caprese Bruschetta! There was also some awesome acoustic live music the night we were there, but they stopped playing as soon as it started getting dark outside. Not a full scale dinner restaurant, but this place is worth a visit to unwind with a drink and a snack. read more

New for us this year on our annual visit to Saugatuck. Such a quaint place, quiet during the day when we went. There is outdoor seating on the front porch or inside where there is a small bar. We order small plates of bruschetta and a charcuterie board. And of course wine and champagne. For dessert it was key lime semifreddo. It was a lovely, relaxing lunch. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we came back later that evening and had drinks and played yard games in the 21 and older side yard. Very fun! read more

Vegetarians beware! Their menu is seemingly vegetarian friendly with many options being "vegetarian on request." However, I ordered their special for the night, burrata, and specifically requested that it be made vegetarian only for it to come out with cooked pig flesh (speck) on it. My boyfriend and I came here for the weekend in February. A lot of the town was shut down, but I was pleased to see Borrowed Time was still open! It's adorable! Very small inside, so keep that in mind! In the summer they have a whole yard to utilize as well. Everything we had was fantastic! We had a few different wines, the meat and cheese plate, bacon wrapped brussel sprouts (what a clever and delicious way to eat brussel sprouts) and the grilled cheese. Everything tasted exceptional! My wife and I stopped by Borrowed Time as our last hurrah dinner on Labor Day. We were seated in the Adirondack chairs back on the lawn, which made for a fantastically casual meal. Everything we ordered was sensational, but really the star was the cup of gluten- and dairy-free tomato soup! Delicious! But what really made the dinner here something that we'll remember for a long time was the phenomenal service we received from Chelsea. She is friendly, personable, and quick to correct any little mistake in the meal! I highly recommend Borrowed Time, especially on a warm, breezy summer evening. Wonderful service, start to finish. It's easy to make a Covid-friendly reservation online, $5 per person which is refunded to you after you receive your bill. We ordered all 4 of the small plates and the tuna, as well as the apple crumb cheesecake and the white chocolate pannacata. Atmosphere is nice; quiet but not too quiet. Dress is pretty casual, although you could dress as nicely as you'd like and still fit in. They have some draft beers, and really neat cocktails to choose from. The new Douglas location only makes me love Borrowed Time even more! While owners Kimberly and Robert are still very active serving and bar tending they've added staff. The small plates are incredible and still include my favorite Bob's smoked salmon. The baked Brie is a close second. The outdoor seating area is comfortable and is a place you could easily while away an afternoon or evening (especially with the added band). First visit to Borrowed Time and it was an unexpected delight. There was an hour wait for outside but immediate seating inside and they do take reservations. They have an awesome patio with string lights, and perfectly designed short but sweet menu, and wonderful service, very considerate of health safety. The charcuterie board was fantastic, as was the fall harvest salad with sirloin steak (the steak was seriously perfect), but the FAVE of the night was the dessert - the apple crumble cheesecake - you have to eat it slowly to savor every bite which we did. This was probably my favorite place during my entire trip. It was gorgeous outside. They had live music off the porch. We were looking for wine and charcuterie and this was just the place. This was hand down one of the worst dining experiences. The food was close to inedible - shrimp and grits smothered in what tasted like jarred picante sauce. The squash crostini was a good idea in theory but the bread was not toasted and the squash was loaded with salt. All I tasted was salt on non-toasted bread. And unfortunately the service was pretty lacking. The first dish came out within minutes of us ordering (red flag for sure) and the rest were separated by 15/20 intervals with no visit from the server in between. It was poorly served for small plates. The limited cocktail menu was a let down as well. Why not offer the option to get a standard g&t or another standard cocktail? I tried two on the menu and they were just a bad over done version of the standard cocktail I would prefer. In general this place seems to be trying really hard to be something it is not. A restaurant serving well crafted small plates from good local sources. The dishes might include local ingredients, but they are instantly ruined by what happens in the kitchen. If you're looking for a steady flow of tasteful plates coupled with good cocktails, then steer clear of this place. I guess this is geared towards the group that wants mediocre wine and the food to go with it. read more

We really enjoyed our dining experience. There was a live two person acoustic band playing. They were fun and played upbeat music we all know. Our server was so prompted and helpful. The tables were spaced out and I felt far enough away from the other guests. There were two of us and we ordered five tapas plates to share. I would strongly recommend starting with 3-4!!!! It's definitely deceiving how full you can get! We had the crab cake special, scallops, salad, and pork shoulder. We liked all the dishes. My only complaint is that the pork shoulder dish was wayyyyy too salty. I'm not sure if the chef accidentally added too much or that's how it always is prepared. I'm not particularly sensitive to salt - so for me to find it too salty is probably saying something. We didn't have desert because we were too full and aren't desert people. But we saw deserts at other tables and they looked excellent. Good vibe/experience to have. read more

Phenomenal! Had a nice sampling of items from the dinner menu. We also had a couple of great ciders as well. The Bacon and Egg entree features pork belly, maple sauce, deep fried whole egg and potato foam. Fantastic combination of flavors. Also had the crab cake. It was way more crab than cake, which was a great thing! We also tried the Mole Sweet potato fries. Sweet and zingy!
