Came here for the giant cinnamon roll and it was delicious!! We were driving back home after a weekend at the beach and decided to stop here along the way. The food was a 10/10. It is super hard to find a great breakfast place and it did not disappoint! They were very busy and groups were waiting to be seated but since we were just two people, we got sat right away. We were visiting South Haven for the weekend and thanks to my trusty Yelp! app, we found Six Chicks Scratch Kitchen. What a gem! Food portions are very favorable to those of us with healthy appetites. If you are petite or do not like larger portions, plan on sharing or taking food home with you! The food tasted amazing and even though we had to wait for a while before being seated due to the popularity of this establishment, it was definitely worth it. Very homey and warm ambiance made me feel as if I was at my Grandma's when I was a child. Servers were all very attentive and knowledgeable of menu offerings. I love, corned beef hash, and the farmers hash looked a little weird on the menu, but the taste was really great. The six chicks casserole was OK, otherwise this would be five stars. After hearing about 6 Chicks many times. We finally made it for breakfast. Our waiter was very attentive and the food was really good. My husband ordered corn beef hash. It did say it had more onion than he likes. But it was a generous portion with real corn beef. I had eggs, sourdough toast, sausage patties and their house fries. I personally would have liked a little more seasoning on the house fries (that had both regular potato and sweet potato chunks). But I will admit, I like a lot of seasoning. I also had a very generous portion of food. The restaurant was clean and decorated really cute. We went in the "off season". So it wasn't too busy. A little more than half full. Its eclectic decor and extensive menu have me reminiscing of the diner that closed many years ago. It's become a family favorite of ours, and I definitely recommend it for your dining while in South Haven. The staff is friendly and kind. Summer in SW Michigan means everyone is on Lake Time, so be prepared to wait a little. Once seated you can sit back and relax while the team takes care of you. I have to drop a star for the wait and the fact that there's nowhere to wait... However, once you're in, the food is fantastic, service is friendly and doesn't rush you, and value is there. We tried to go twice the week we visited and finally showed up early enough to get a table without an excessive wait. Whatever time you think is early enough...it's not! Leave extra time to wait. I ordered the sausage and biscuits with eggs over easy. When it arrived it looked fantastic. But my first bite of the biscuits and gravy it was warm at best . So when our server came back to check on our food I told her that my biscuits and gravy where just warm. She apologized and took it back and a few minutes later it was brought back and it was great in temperature but when the reheated it they cooked the eggs to very well done. When our server came back to bring the bill she asked how everything was and I told her the eggs got over cooked when they reheated my sausage and gravy. The only thing that was good, was the coffee, tea, English Muffin and part of the pancakes (part of them were undercooked). The corn-beef hash was horrible and definitely not worth $12.50!!! Small portions, the onions were undercooked, and so were the potatoes; the corned beef was very fatty, with some of the pieces couldn't be eaten. The quiche Was undercooked (the bottom crust was not cooked all the way), but the filling was delicious; maybe dry cook the crust before adding the filling, for the full cook. Every single staff person is the absolute sweetest and provide amazing service! Let's get to the amazing food - we got orange juice, Belgian waffles with bacon on the side, and a breakfast burrito with a side of house potatoes. The orange juice was alright but our server was so nice to notice that we didn't drink it and took it off our bill!!! Incredible customer service! The waffle was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the outside and syrup went perfectly with it! The bacon was probably the best we've ever had at a brunch spot! We would come back over and Over again just to get that! Haha. Lastly, the breakfast burrito. IT WAS PHENOMENAL! The ratio of eggs to cheese to chorizo was incredible.
