this little place packed a decent breakfast punch. it's a small restaurant and was super busy, even at an off-time. it was really warm in there, though- I didn't care for that but that's a minor inconvenience I suppose. as other reviewers stated, the cinnamon rolls are huge and absolutely delicious. definitely enough for a whole breakfast or to share. I split the banana walnut with my husband, I was almost full after eating half. I ordered the breakfast casserole based on the look of the lady's plate next to us, it was just okay- I wouldn't order it again and forgot to get a photo. however, the sausage gravy that came with it was delicious and I might opt for b&g or something different next time. my kids all got different kinds cinnamon rolls (plain, choc chip) and they were thrilled with them. it seems like this place is a must-stop in south haven! read more

We waited for over an hour to be seated, then once we were seated, they took our drink order and didn't come to take our food order for almost 30 minutes later. Our food then arrived in shifts and not all together, they messed up some of the order. Our checks also took forever to get. We went to Six Chicks on the final day of our vacation, to have one last breakfast with everyone before we all got in our cars and drove home from South Haven. They were able to accommodate a large group of 8 people, so that was nice. I had the breakfast burrito, which came with a mixture of "home fry" sweet potatoes and regular Idaho potatoes. We arrived on a Saturday morning, so the place was very busy. Overall, the service was excellent, and everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. I'll definitely come back here next time we're visiting South Haven or Holland. read more

Today, we tried Six Chicks Scratch Kitchen for the first time. We are serious breakfast people. It has to be good. Six Chicks Scratch Kitchen came through. We ordered the California Omelette, the Southwest Fire Omelette with Chorizo, a side of Challah French Toast, and coffee. The Southwest Fire Omelette with Chorizo was delicious. The combination of flavors brought back great memories of Tucson. The Challah French Toast was so flavorful. It is likely that the chef has a secret recipe. The tables remained filled with locals the entire time we dined. That is w very good sign. This would have been a five star review we're it not for the cheap paper napkins. They quickly fell apart covering our clothing with bits of paper. Some bits stuck to our fingers. Placed a take out order. As I was paying, the two ladies at the desk were talking about how the receipts no longer list the customer name. One said she did not like that because she cannot see who did not tip her. Meanwhile, my ticket did not go back to the cook when I called it in, and it was not realized until after I paid. This continues to be a wonderful breakfast spot! Generous portions served hot and fresh. Be sure to try the cinnamon roll. It's big enough to share and comes split, grilled, buttered and smothered in icing. We love the classic so much that we have not tried the other varieties but the caramel pea can that went by us this morning may change our mind next time. Their classic breakfast of eggs, potatoes, and toast is perfect . I had mine scrambled and there were a mountain of eggs on my plate. The house potatoes are a mix of white and sweet potatoes cubed grilled and fried. The edges are nicely browned and not greasy at all. There's magic in this place. My wife got the French toast. I love, LOVE challah bread French toast and this place is doing it different then other places I've been and the chicks are doing it right. The custard they use is really basic. Not heavy with cinnamon and sugar like many I've had. Very basic egg and milk I think. Griddled with A LOT of butter. So rich and crisp and chewy and buttery! Just a kiss of the syrup is all this needs. Loved it! I'd have been soooo jealous of my wife's meal if I hadn't ordered the 6 Chicks Breakfast Casserole. Eggs, hash browns, ham, bacon, sausage, cheddar cheese and somehow, somewhere they snuck some butter in there. It's rich, cheesy, savory stick to your ribs goodness. It's served with a side of sausage gravy which I put to good use on the casserole and on the biscuits I ordered as my side. They take already buttery biscuits, split them and you guessed it, butter griddle them. I was STUFFED! So glad I didn't order one of the varieties of cinnamon roll although if I lived here there us no way I wouldn't give that a try sometime. Give this place a try, you'll be happy you did. Came for breakfast over the week of July 4. The first cup of coffee was slow arriving but the staff was attentive to refills thereafter. Our group of 4 had a California Omellette, eggs and home fries, eggs and pancakes, etc All the regular breakfast stuff. It was all good, especially the omelette and pancakes. We also had the giant cinnamon roll , which needed more butter and less sugar sauce. Could have been a five, but they don't offer lox and bagel. Nor were there any innovative specials, such as eggs and perch, which would sell great in this town. But if you want a reliable, very good regular breakfast, this is the place!! Please do not confuse 6 Chicks with the Red Hen. Some chicks grow up to be Hens, and some Hens are Red. But these chicks are true blue. read more

We recently spent a week in South Haven and tried to visit as many local spots as we good. Six Chicks was our one breakfast stop which came highly recommended. We had a short 15-minute wait and then we were seated at our table. The restaurant is observing the COVID-19 capacity limitations and had tables spread out at least six feet apart. Unfortunately, staff was not very good when it came to the face mask requirement - several were wearing below their nose and at times removed completely. As far as the food goes, it was a solid 3.5. My husband ordered the corn beef hash and was a little disappointed that the potatoes seemed to be just boiled and didn't have any color or crispiness from a flat top, but was glad to see it was at least homemade and not out of a can. He also ordered a half order of biscuits and gravy. The biscuit was good, but the gravy needed a little more cooking to eliminate the flour taste. I ordered the breakfast burrito that came with a side of house potatoes (regular and sweet potatoes) or hash browns. I opted for the house potatoes, but received hash browns. Our server, Donna, quickly corrected and brought the side of house potatoes. The breakfast burrito was huge and could easily be split between two people. I ended up taking half home and my husband and I shared it for breakfast the next morning. The burrito was loaded with scrambled eggs, chorizo, cheese and hash browns then served with sour cream and salsa on the side (salsa seemed straight our of the jar and pretty bland). Service was definitely lacking - we weren't provided menus until we asked, we received coffee and creamer, but no silverware or napkins. Service seemed very unorganized and haphazard. Ordered carry out and the woman on the phone was so nice, patient, and helpful. Ordered a little bit of everything. Had their scrambled eggs breakfast with bacon, sausage, hash browns, and toast. That was really good and hash browns were cooked just right. The sausage patties had a little kick, if you don't eat spicy much, I enjoyed it. Had their sweet cream pancakes and multigrain, both very good. Also their breakfast burrito, again spicy (because of jalapeños), but really good and different than any other breakfast burritos I've had... it has avocado and other things inside. Very good! I had to have a taste of their sausage and gravy, so she was able to give me one instead of a whole order, and it was worth it! A man felt because he was dining alone that he could just grab a menu and take a seat smack dab in the middle of thr counter. Possibly one of the best diners we've been to. Somewhat plain on the outside, but your not there for the scenery. The decor on the inside is farm/chicken themed (chicks). Very nice. They were quite busy and gave us one of those pager things. Wasn't too long and we were seated. The menu is big but not too much. They say everything is from scratch, and the quality shows it. My wife got the "Six Chicks Casserole" which is sort of a quiche. Excellent. Big. I got corned beef hash. Excellent and obviously homemade. Hand cut potato and beef. Even the bread was homemade. So good. We got a cinnamon roll to go but had to have a sample before we left. Holy Cow it was good. And huge. The service was great too. Attentive and friendly. Not obtrusive. My only regret is we don't live closer. We will be going back anytime we're in the area. read more

They were busy on a Thursday morning and we had to wait about 20 minutes but it was well worth it. The servers were extremely nice and even joined our family game of 20 questions for a while. The service was great, food was excellent from the big cinnamon roll to the farmer's hash and the classic breakfast plate. This is definitely a laid-back and casual vibe breakfast spot, with a few interesting items to mix up your standard breakfast diner fare.
