Got right in seated at the counter. The waitress was very nice. The coffee was good, especially for cafe coffee. I felt like there may have been a hint of chicory in it. It wasn't as watered down as most cafe coffees. The Denver scramble was a bit lackluster. It was big but a bit watery and bland. The potatoes are very strange. If you are looking for a spot to fill up your stomach with nutrients and do that quickly and inexpensively.... then Ida Red's is your spot. Nothing fancy about the menu. The inside looks like an old roadside diner. The staff are all very friendly. We had lunch and breakfast here while visiting for a few days. We went to Ida on a beautiful fall Saturday morning. The restaurant was very busy (staffing was an issue for other restaurants in the area). We waited about 10 mins for counter seats. I had a westerns scramble and my companion had a spinach scramble. Both were large (2 meals for me) and very good. Service was good despite the crowds and the use of calculators to figure bills. Woww! Yummy! Excellent food! I have never had such amazing scrambled eggs! The best fluffy tasty scrambled eggs ever! Perfection. I had scrambled eggs with perfect golden brown cottage fries, delicious crispy bacon. The toast was homemade sourdough. I'm not sure but this might be my best breakfast ever! The service was excellent as well. It's a small dining room. With a real cottage feel! We really love Ida Red's. The food is great and the portions are very generous. Staff members are super-efficient. The one thing that annoys us is how Ida Red's handles waiting customers. This is a busy place with long wait times in the morning. Get this: They will not let you buy a cup of coffee to take outside while you wait, nor will they put a coffee thermos, paper cups and a small garbage can outside for waiting customers to serve themselves. We've asked several times and they won't budge. It's a ridiculous rule that is completely non-customer focused. It says, "We don't care about making you feel welcome or comfortable while you wait". Not really sure how to rate this place. We came here today for breakfast, I'm in town for a girls weekend and one of the ladies had been here before and recommended it. My overall rating is probably about a 3.5 out of 5 so I will round up to 4 stars. We arrived around 11 or 11:15am, and added our name to the list, which was quite lengthy. They have a small sitting area inside or you can hang out outside. We were probably seated around 11:45am, and we got one of their nice large booths. Today is a Saturday so I wasn't surprised that it was busy. As the other review state, it is cash only, or you can also pay with a check, which I thought was funny - I hadn't seen that before at restaurants nowadays. I don't really like egg dishes so I got a short stack of corn cakes with a side of ham and also a side of whole-wheat toast. I have a HUGE love for restaurant toast - the melted butter is always so delicious - but the toast came out without butter, which was disappointing. The corn cakes were very large and not what I was expecting either, although they were tasty. They were more like pancake sized. The ham was very good. One friend got the French toast with a side of sausage, and my other friend got the California omelette which comes topped with avocado; she shared her avocado with me so I made myself some avocado toast LOL. Waitservice was fine but super slow. We did get water refills which I appreciated, but flagging a waitress down at the end to get some to-go boxes took a very long time. I also forgot to mention that it took us about an hour to get our food, which seemed excessive. Despite all that, I would come here again. One friend also got a peach muffin and it was served warm, and that was delicious. Prices are reasonable as well and everything was clean, including bathrooms. For two people it was about $25 for breakfast which isn't bad, before tip. (Including one coffee, an omelette meal, a muffin, and my meal) read more

My husband and I looked forward to eating brunch here for our 44th anniversary. We had come once before a few years back and enjoyed it. Unfortunately, this visit today was very disappointing. We were pleased that we didn't have to wait too long for a table. We were seated on the porch. However, once our drinks were brought, we waited nearly an hour for our food. There were some empty tables. However, it seems maybe short staffed. But our waitress never apologized for the long wait, no explanation given and she never checked on us til after our food arrived. This has become our go-to breakfast spot. It's a comfortable indoor setting with seating outside in a cottage garden setting. The omelets are top-notch, abundantly sized, and well presented. Do yourself a favor and just read through the establishment's responses to the Google reviewers. "I would have loved to try this place, but sadly they are cash or check only. The food was amazing! I ordered the Greek egg dish and was very happy with my selection. The only critique was the fact that I couldn't add spinach for an upcharge. There are no changes allowed. Get there early when the weather is nice, there is usually a wait so bring your paper and get to waiting. Great views of boat traffic and Amy. Baldy from the benches. We visited ida Red's cottage for brunch on a day trip to Saugatuck MI. when we arrived the crowd was spilling into the sidewalk outside. However seating went quickly and we snagged a menu so we could be sure what we wanted. once seated the service was excellent. our party of three ordered three different scrambles and we each loved our choice. The generous portion came with choice of bread. a variety of jams was available and I tried a delicious cherry jam on my English muffin with my Mexican scramble with peppers, onions, and tomatoes. The Betty consist of 1 muffin, scrambled eggs and fruit. It was the perfect breakfast to start the morning light, but it was filling. You can pick the muffin you want. There was about 4 choices. I choose Blueberry as my muffin flavor. The muffin was homemade, soft and full of blueberries. It was yummy! The eggs were so good. They were served hot and fluffy. I added a little salt and pepper and they were perfect. The fruit was fresh. A yummy breakfast. My husband ordered French Toast with a side of scrambled eggs. The French Toast was yummy. You could tell it was homemade as well. It had a good flavor and was delicious. My husband and I also both ordered a glass of orange juice. I'm usually not a pulp person, but this orange juice was amazing! It was sweet and had a good flavor that I could get over the taste of the pulp. It was simple yet flavorful. Very cozy breakfast spot right in the heart of downtown Saugatuck. Seating inside is pretty limited so if you're thinking about coming on a yucky day be sure to consider this. However, if the weather is nice then you should fight for a table outside because their yard is really really cool. It's almost like you're eating brunch in your own back yard because you've got great shade from the trees, there's some really cool overgrowth that's happening on the retaining walls outlining the yard. Just overall a really unique outdoor dining experience! Now for the food. They have really airy pancakes. And to be quite honest, I'm not the biggest fan of them. I'm also maybe the worlds largest pancake snob and there are only 1-2 places that I'll actually order them. I only had a few bites because my wife ordered them. I wasn't able to get around to any of their signature items, however I had a simple breakfast and was not disappointing. It's pretty difficult to screw up breakfast (but we all know it's been done!). Overall, I'm fairly satisfied with Ida Red's and I wouldn't at all mind coming back. Some people swear by the Southerner which is close by. And I love that place too, but there is just something so pleasing about a really cheap breakfast. Which is why I'd prefer to come to Ida Reds. If I'm going to drop $12-15 for a meal I'd prefer to have it by for lunch. But I know that some people disagree with me on that. If I could put zero stars, I would. We went to get breakfast for our last day here. The hostess made a mistake and our party was skipped and we had to be split and we had to have that one person had to join our table and the big blonde woman told her to go away and eat at the bar, when she did, her dad joined her and she got mad and slowly started getting in her face. The big tall blonde woman began to argue with my 18 year old cousin and was being rude and had a gross attitude, we ended up walking out because of that and it ruined our experience.
