Got right in seated at the counter. The waitress was very nice. The coffee was good, especially for cafe coffee. I felt like there may have been a hint of chicory in it. It wasn't as watered down as most cafe coffees. The Denver scramble was a bit lackluster. It was big but a bit watery and bland. The potatoes are very strange. We stopped here on a rainy morning for late breakfast and found it excellent! We were nicely greeted and seated. We both ordered fresh orange juice which was spot on. Then we had the whole grain pancakes with two scrambled eggs. The pancakes were delicious, not heavy, and the eggs were light and buttery. Even the jam assortment in the basket was top shelf, not just Smuckers. Great service too. read more

The inside looks like an old roadside diner. The staff are all very friendly. We had lunch and breakfast here while visiting for a few days. This is not a spot where the food will blow you away.... not even close. I normally don't give out 4 stars to places like this BUT the food is such a value. Each of the entrees we ordered were HUGE. We were recommended this restaurant for breakfast , and we were delighted that we tòk the offer. My husband enjoyed his pancakes, and I enjoyed the Charlevoix eggs that had that tastiest ham in it. We went to Ida on a beautiful fall Saturday morning. The restaurant was very busy (staffing was an issue for other restaurants in the area). We waited about 10 mins for counter seats. I had a westerns scramble and my companion had a spinach scramble. Both were large (2 meals for me) and very good. Service was good despite the crowds and the use of calculators to figure bills. I had scrambled eggs with perfect golden brown cottage fries, delicious crispy bacon. The toast was homemade sourdough. I'm not sure but this might be my best breakfast ever! The service was excellent as well. It's a small dining room. With a real cottage feel! For me it felt like going back in time when good quality food and experienced cooks cared more about the dining experience than their bottom line. Highly recommend it. There will probably be a wait. We had a family breakfast of adults which turned into an argument with the tall blond waitress which resulted in her flipping out, calling my son the D word 2x, threatening to pour hot coffee on him and throwing the 25 cent tip I gave her at me. We really love Ida Red's. The food is great and the portions are very generous. Staff members are super-efficient. The one thing that annoys us is how Ida Red's handles waiting customers. This is a busy place with long wait times in the morning. Get this: They will not let you buy a cup of coffee to take outside while you wait, nor will they put a coffee thermos, paper cups and a small garbage can outside for waiting customers to serve themselves. We've asked several times and they won't budge. It's a ridiculous rule that is completely non-customer focused. It says, "We don't care about making you feel welcome or comfortable while you wait". It's a small thing to fix and it would make the customer experience a better one. read more

Not really sure how to rate this place. We came here today for breakfast, I'm in town for a girls weekend and one of the ladies had been here before and recommended it. My overall rating is probably about a 3.5 out of 5 so I will round up to 4 stars. We arrived around 11 or 11:15am, and added our name to the list, which was quite lengthy. They have a small sitting area inside or you can hang out outside. We were probably seated around 11:45am, and we got one of their nice large booths. Today is a Saturday so I wasn't surprised that it was busy. As the other review state, it is cash only, or you can also pay with a check, which I thought was funny - I hadn't seen that before at restaurants nowadays. I don't really like egg dishes so I got a short stack of corn cakes with a side of ham and also a side of whole-wheat toast. I have a HUGE love for restaurant toast - the melted butter is always so delicious - but the toast came out without butter, which was disappointing. The corn cakes were very large and not what I was expecting either, although they were tasty. They were more like pancake sized. The ham was very good. One friend got the French toast with a side of sausage, and my other friend got the California omelette which comes topped with avocado; she shared her avocado with me so I made myself some avocado toast LOL. Waitservice was fine but super slow. We did get water refills which I appreciated, but flagging a waitress down at the end to get some to-go boxes took a very long time. I also forgot to mention that it took us about an hour to get our food, which seemed excessive. Despite all that, I would come here again. One friend also got a peach muffin and it was served warm, and that was delicious. Prices are reasonable as well and everything was clean, including bathrooms. For two people it was about $25 for breakfast which isn't bad, before tip. (Including one coffee, an omelette meal, a muffin, and my meal) read more

I originally wrote the below review on Google a year ago and received an incredibly rude response today. I address that in the edit below. Do yourself a favor and just read through the establishment's responses to the Google reviewers. "I would have loved to try this place, but sadly they are cash or check only. It's crazy that there are still even places that don't accept a debit or credit card." Edit: Apparently whoever is managing their social media is incredibly rude as well based upon the response I received from them on this short review. Based upon the response I received and the ones I see others received, I cannot in good conscience recommend an establishment that apparently never learned manners or basic customer service practices. My husband and I looked forward to eating brunch here for our 44th anniversary. We had come once before a few years back and enjoyed it. Unfortunately, this visit today was very disappointing. We were pleased that we didn't have to wait too long for a table. We were seated on the porch. However, once our drinks were brought, we waited nearly an hour for our food. There were some empty tables. However, it seems maybe short staffed. But our waitress never apologized for the long wait, no explanation given and she never checked on us til after our food arrived. We make breakfast at home mostly but when we're in town and want someone else to prep and cleanup this is our goto spot. Get there early when the weather is nice, there is usually a wait so bring your paper and get to waiting. Great views of boat traffic and Amy. Baldy from the benches. This place has been a staple for at least 35 or more years. No more Coke in glass bottles though. I really enjoyed my breakfast from Ida Red's. It was right around the corner from were we stayed the night before, Maplewood Hotel. It wasn't crowded today. We walked in and was able to sit down at a table. This is anyone mom and pop restaurant. It's small but the food is good and it's locally owned. You'll notice a lot of the restaurants in this area are small, quaint and homely feeling. A lot of their food is from scratch and homemade. I ordered the Betty. The Betty consist of 1 muffin, scrambled eggs and fruit. It was the perfect breakfast to start the morning light, but it was filling. You can pick the muffin you want. There was about 4 choices. I choose Blueberry as my muffin flavor. The muffin was homemade, soft and full of blueberries. It was yummy! The eggs were so good. They were served hot and fluffy. I added a little salt and pepper and they were perfect. The fruit was fresh. A yummy breakfast. My husband ordered French Toast with a side of scrambled eggs. The French Toast was yummy. You could tell it was homemade as well. It had a good flavor and was delicious. My husband and I also both ordered a glass of orange juice. I'm usually not a pulp person, but this orange juice was amazing! It was sweet and had a good flavor that I could get over the taste of the pulp. It was simple yet flavorful.
