Very warm and inviting brewery with a variety of craft brew options. The space is super cozy and they have tons of board games and card games for all to play. This is the perfect spot to stop in on a cold or rainy day to enjoy a craft brew, a small snack, and enjoy some games with friends. I sampled a variety of beers and ended up getting a flight of 4. We stopped in Bookhouse for a one beer before heading home from downtown. To park close you need to park on the street. There is a parking garage, but it is a little bit of a walk. We love the atmosphere here and the beer is always great. This time we were able to sit on the patio. The patio is near the street but very private. As we were sitting there we realized they are growing hops and it provides shade on the patio. When we arrived there were very few people and within 30 minutes it started filling up. They have a very limited menu. Basically pub food. They do have pop ups periodically. We also grabbed a beer in a can to go. It is sealed at the bar and is similar to a growler. It has to be consumed with a week. This is one of our favorite brewpubs. read more

This brewery is located just outside of Ohio City, which means it's in the heart of a lot of culture and adventure. It's a quaint little place with a nice outdoor space for those gorgeous spring, summer, and fall days. The beer selection is plentiful with several options for every palate. I enjoyed the Lil' Whoopsie IPA, the Double Whoops Juicy IPA, and the Batch 300 English Ale. All three delivered as promised. The IPAs were subtle with the hops offset nicely by the sweetness, and the English Ale was on point with its robustness, and the color, wow! That's a nice-looking beer. I'm a big fan of nitro beers, and Batch 300 hit the mark with its creamy head. The ambience is enjoyable as well with its bookstack decorations. Bookhouse Brewing would have received five stars, but the food options are minimal and overpriced for the quality. If you're hungry and thirsty, you'll probably want to go somewhere else, but if you'd like a nice spot to drink good beer and chat with friends, Bookhouse is the place. Bonus points for being LGBTQ+ friendly. Beer is for the community, and everyone should be involved in that community. read more

They say don't judge a book by it's cover, and that applies for this brewery. Cool building, neat concept, games in the lobby to share. By the way the place looked, and the super fun logo, we were excited. And that's where the good news ends - once we delved into this story, was not a page turner. There were not so many books, not very many at all. The beer was, meh, at best. (They did have some interesting glassware to purchase). We ordered the covered tater tots and, WHEW, that was a MISTAKE. They arrived on a paper plate and were mostly uncooked, mushy, not good. We sent them back and the server said in a somewhat surly voice, "I just press a button," in reference to how the tots are prepared. Round two of the tots was no better, we did not eat the tots, paid our bill, and left. There are too many good brewery options in the W25th corridor to visit this place, try somewhere else. read more

This is my go-to brewery, because it has everything I could want in a brewery. Great atmosphere? Yup. It's a fantastic place to go to meet people. There are no televisions, and it's relatively quiet, so it's a great place for conversations. I've met a surprising number of my Cleveland friends at Bookhouse, and had conversations with many more one-off or occasional visitors. The staff are also great both at service and at starting conversations among the patrons at the bar. Oh, and that beer - arguably the best in Cleveland. There is almost always one or two IPAs on tap, but unlike some craft breweries, there are plenty of non-IPAs, and they're all really good. Belgian quadrupel, Czech dark lager, the Jacob Bavarian hefeweizen. They also make cider, and have a limited selection of liquors. But the main attraction is the excellent beer. Trivia is Wednesdays at 7, and is so far my favorite local trivia, as someone who was on the quiz bowl team in high school and is thus looking for more intellectual than pop-culture trivia. It's made in Cleveland, completely analog, and takes place at a moderate pace, so you still have time to catch up with your team, or get to know your team if you join forces with someone new. The only area that Bookhouse doesn't specialize in is food - it's a place to go for a drink after dinner, not usually to get dinner. The exception is that if there's a food truck or vendor in, those are usually awesome. I wish there was a good way to check which food vendors were in when online, but in keeping with the "analog is better" theme, the best way to check is to look at the calendar on the wall in the brewery. Everyone knows to check out Noble Beast for great beer in Cleveland, but if you want a (usually) less crowded atmosphere and beer that is just as good, try Bookhouse next time. There's a good chance you'll find yourself coming back. read more

Of the latest batch of local breweries in Cleveland, Bookhouse Brewing sets itself apart with its unique bookshop theme and calm atmosphere. The location just off the main thoroughfare of W 25th makes for a stress-free meetup, as does the private walled-off surface parking lot just across the street. I'll start with the good. The peaceful entry-room lined with cool, neutral colored tomes and bookcases, fresh flowers on tables, and free Wi-Fi are surely enough to entice even your most bookish friends to come out for a drink or bar snack. Like many others have noted, it wasn't too crowded when I came on a weekend afternoon - several groups at tables and others seated at the wraparound bar - and one particularly studious soul was working on a laptop inside. Any self-respecting microbrewery these days hosts a variety of events and Bookhouse could be your next stop on the trivia train. Just check out the chalkboard and posted flyers for more info. The menus are printed on water-wrinkled printer paper that I hope will be replaced by more durable material in the near future. But I can't complain about the house beer prices and I definitely am not mad about the fact that they cater to my indecision by allowing taster sizes of their brews. I sampled the Puff Puff Pass and Purple Coovee - PPP lives up to its smoky description and is not for the faint of heart, but would recommend with a nice smoked BBQ brisket. The Hot Pretzels (courtesy of Good Company) also piqued our interest, but I did get a little peeved that I was rung up for $10 rather than the 2 for $8 deal, and would never have known had I not requested an e-receipt so my friend could Venmo me for her part of the bill. I'm a huge fan of these huge, fresh pretzels and would order two more in a heartbeat. But I don't want to have to question whether mistakes like this were made due to human error or subterfuge. We also were a little irked by the slow service despite the relative lull in patrons. Since this has been mentioned by some others who came last year, I'd hope that enough time has passed to iron out these kinks. Overall awesome concept that still seems to be growing into its boots. Good place to avoid the party-heavy Ohio City scene and feel a little more sophisticated about your beer. read more

I sat at the bar and ordered a tasting flight of four ales: Brick and Mortar Pale Ale (5.0% ABV) (3.25 stars on Untappd) Study Session IPA (5.5% ABV) (2.75 stars on Untappd) Pink Boots Brut IPA (6.5% ABV) (2.5 stars on Untappd) Whoops, Even Juicer! New England IPA (6.8% ABV) (2.24 stars on Untappd) None of the ales wowed me - but they were solid. I was hoping for some bolder flavor profiles on the Pale Ale and IPA's - but the flavors were rather muted. The building is very old. According to the barkeep - the first tenant, back in days of ancient yore - was a brewery. The inside of the place is resplendent in lots of refinished hard woods and brick. Beautiful! One of my favorites places to stop at while on West 25th. I can't believe I haven't help them yet?? They have such a wonderful vibe to the place and the beer is pretty good with a wide selection, along with a few ciders. The stuff is always so kind and they now have the waffle guy, who has these amazing waffles. They are so fulfilling. Great beer! As a first time visitor, the strong smell catches you right when you enter. Smells like a mix of books and rocks and must and chlorine (for some odd reason). It's not unbearable but helpful to be aware of before entering. Maybe if I was prepared, it wouldn't have been too bad. Also, there are no menus. A QR code sends me to the Untapp'd menu which shows the beers available but not liquor (which we saw ordered by a nearby table) or food. No prices listed. It also doesn't explain if the beer is draft or canned. A couple of the tasters we ordered were poured from a can. We didn't mind but it would have helped to know in advance. Bookhouse is the newest addition to the trendy, hipster Ohio City / Hingetown neighborhood. Walking into Bookhouse I instantly felt a calm aesthetic similar to a coffee house. With moderate noise levels, Bookhouse might be one of the only Cleveland breweries that I would recommend for a study session or a solo drink. A flight is $13 for 5 samples. The menu has 7 house brews and a few collaborations with local breweries like Collision Bend and Sibling Revelry. Not only does this brewery have a unique style, but the beer is also impressive! My favorites include the sour, IPA, & saison. I look forward to returning to this spot in the near future. read more

Came here on a weekend night. The place had a good amount of people though it wasn't busy per say, which is a compliment There was a perogie vendor set up and they looked good. Unfortunately, we were let down with Bookhouse. The service was incredibly slow, although they did apologize. We were also pretty let down by the decor. We had this idea of what we thought the bar would look like, with real books and a cozy feeling. Sadly, it didn't meet our exit expectations but that's on us. The beer itself was ok. This is definitely one of my favorite breweries in Cleveland! It doesnt scream that just another brewery in Cleveland vibe, but rather adds some of its own character in a subtle manner. There is a library where you may read from, borrow and give back to, with planned swaps occuring as well. They had board games which was a plus as well. I love when cafes and breweries have these activities as it becomes so much more of a friendly space where I can spend more time and enjoy my drinks. This place is a not-so-hidden gem for beer lovers - but deserves the highest accolades. Strictly speaking to the brewer-owner's rotating menu of beers, there's always something unique and creative and consistently delicious. The IPAs are good for the IPA crowd, HOWEVER the highlights are his exceptional German, Belgian, and Czech brews. Atmosphere is cozy and bookish. Bartender (Tom?) is very nice and helpful. Bookhouse Brewing has quickly become one of my favorite casual places to go. They have a wide selection of tasty beers at great prices. They have a few different rooms to choose from depending on the vibe you want. They are dog friendly and I love to bring my pup & see other pups (but fear not it's also not overrun with dogs for those of you less appreciative of amazing pups but I digress). I love that this brewery is stacked with books and allows you to take a book & leave a book. Overall I can't say enough great things about this place. I like this place. I'm not a huge beer drinker, but I still really enjoyed going. My friend saw it on Instagram and we decided to give it a try. We went on a Friday night around 11 pm. Pros: 1. Parking right outside. Anyone with free and easily accessible parking, especially in the Cleveland area, is run by saints. 2. I like the vibe. They had books and board games. I couldn't find the board games when I first arrived. They're on the bottom of a bookshelf relatively close to the bar area. (Don't be like me and not look below eye level) I liked the historical background. It didn't seem fake or a marketing ploy, it seemed like an older authentic brewery. 3. Beer was good. The flight option was nice, especially because I hadn't been there before. Cons: None. I'll be back soon. It's definitely trendy, but it does seem like enough people know about it where it is annoying to go/overcrowded. Just a few hipster. A slightly older crowd than the West 25th youthful partying. Just wait until everyone finds out about it... I heard they do some cool events there, so I'm looking forward to those. read more

This is, by far, my favorite new brewery and it makes me want to move to Ohio City so it can be my neighborhood hang out. The books arranged by color, the cozy atmosphere, the ABSENCE OF TVS! It all just adds to the charm of the place. The wooden bar that is front and center just makes you feel at home and like you could belly up and spend the whole afternoon there (which I absolutely have NOT done ) The beers have been consistently good and getting better with each visit! The Belgian holiday beer was delicious and perfectly spiced and strong! The IPAs are always a hit. And the cider is surprisingly tasty! The pop-up food vendors offer tasty snacks when you get hungry - it was waffles the last time I was in! They offer small snacks on the menu (popcorn and nuts) but no significant food items so I don't recommend coming hungry! In the sea that has become Cleveland's beer scene, I think Bookhouse stands out! read more

Stopped in on an extremely rainy Friday night. Luckily for us there was street parking available right outside the front door. Don't know if it was because of the rain but there were only around 6 other people in the place. My husband and I sat at the bar to share a flight. I really liked the decor but the beer, not as much. There was something off about the flavor. It wasn't necessarily bad, but it was wrong tasting. I get hefeweizen wherever we go and like the subtle differences place to place but this wasn't a subtle difference. I liked the calm atmosphere at Bookhouse. This place has the coffee shop by day kind of vibe. There are many corners where you can go off and kind of be on your own. By the description I was kind of expecting comfy seating and fewer four top tables, but they get the job done. Service was friendly though a bit slow. Even though the place was not busy, the one bartender could have used some help at times. Their hours are pretty limited too open only 5 days a week and only as late as 11pm on a couple of them. At around 10:45p a group of 5 people came in and were all turned away. I actually would love if this place was open as a coffee shop all day that turned bar at night. read more

Enjoyed a flight of beers at Bookhouse last night. While I will say none of the beers on the menu fit in with my personal favorites... they were all super solid & good beers for their styles. I liked that as a new brewery they had a hefty variety on the menu. The staff working was incredibly friendly and willing to help.
