I went to Boogie Music for the first time today and it was one of the better music store experiences I've had in my life. I seem to be searching for a guitar that doesn't exist but the staff really took their time and helped me narrow down what I'm looking for and even searched the internet for me. Bonus was I got to play an old parlor guitar from the 1930's and that was such a cool thing to do. They have a lot of unique things I've never seen before in other music stores. Been in a few times over the years to try and give them a few chances, but the older gentleman (owner) is very rude and cold. As soon as you walk in he's sizing you up and is very cold and rude the whole time. Makes you feel as if you don't belong there or you're bothering him. I do realize this store has been around for many years, but I don't know why the saltiness right off the bat. Only reason I gave 2 stars was because sometimes you can find a cool vintage piece, but you've gotta have thick skin to deal with them. Pass. read more

My teenage son wanted a drum kit, I was totally against the idea for obvious reasons. He was adamant and had received enough cash at Christmas to buy it himself. I'm for buying at a local than a big box so Boogie's was the first stop on our list. Easy to find in a north Phoenix strip mall. Place is very small but organized. We never really got to talk to anyone that day. Two men working but one looked like he was giving guitar lessons in the back and the other was occupied by a gentleman with a very young girl and they were asking a ton of questions. We browsed several minutes with my son deciding they didn't have what he was looking for. Even though we didn't purchase anything that day it's someplace I'd definitely go back to if looking for any type of musical equipment. Even though we didn't have much interaction with employees I could tell by the way both employees talked to those around them they are about superior customer service. We will return and from what I could see prices are competitive with big box retailers, used equipment even cheaper. read more

The employee I spoke with was so rude. He was an older gentleman with a terrible attitude. I came in and asked for help finding a particular cable that isn't super common. I didn't go in with high hopes of finding it but thought i would just see. I know I can get it online but wanted it sooner If possible. I showed the employee what I was using and he proceeded to ask me if people were really that stupid to use or make that product. Then proceeded to make me feel like I was some scumbag when I said I couldn't afford to buy a new 100 audio interface. He said "you really can't afford 100$" I will NEVER come back. read more

They've even been able to fix damage caused by luthiers from less reputable guitar shops. The employees are so kind and helpful, and they have been able to answer all of my questions over the years. Boogie music has been around since I was in high-school, maybe even longer. I purchased my first and only used guitar from here. I was probably 20 or 21 years old. It was a pearl white BC Rich Gunslinger. It weighed more than me almost. Boogie Music has a special place in my heart. After meeting my husband and dating for a while I came back to Boogie Music to trade my guitar in for some new rack unit gear for him. I love listening to guitar, but didn't have enough interest to commit to invest time into really getting into it. Boogie was a hot spot in the music scene. A few of my friends in the scene had seen my guitar hanging for sale when I was done and got in touch with me letting me know. I've been playing drums, guitar, bass and recently banjo for over twenty years. For most of my I have done my own strings and set ups. Wouldn't let anybody touch my gear. I've had work done on most all of my guitars, including setting up an old banjo I purchased. They do great work, as well as does everybody who works with them. Prices are fantastic whether you need a full set up or just a restring. They prefer to use the best in the industry, or kindly oblige to whatever suits your personal taste. They also do custom set ups as I asked for my banjo. I take all my stuff here as I don't trust easily. Also, being a drummer, I have bought several pedals, and even a Rolland e kit here and always love coming in to take a look. I moved into the area of boogie music about a year and a half ago, and to my delight they were still there, a strong personable family owned business. They somehow survived these times. Within the last ten years, I've watched all the small more personal music stores disappear and it pains me. I'd rather be stabbed in the eye than visit guitar center or buy online. One of the best music stores you can go to for all things musical. The staff is friendly, family oriented and have pride for their community. I went to their store after leaving another music store not too far from them. I wanted to trade in a few instruments I had to combine the money and upgrade to a great guitar. The other music store I went to, wouldn't even buy back their own guitar I purchased a few months earlier. I went to Boogie Music, explained what I wanted to do and worked with me to make my dream happen. They were fair, understanding and happy to help me. I walked out with a beautiful epiphone which I love!! This is my new music store from now on!! They go above and beyond to help and even work with the community to ensure kids have the right musical instruments for school when needed. What is it with music stores? This is the third music store I've been to that not only requires you to wear a mask but insists you use hand sanitizer! This is a small mom-and-pop music store. The selection of guitars, drums, and other musical instruments is very limited, although you can order it through them online. However, most of this problem is due to the limited availability from the major instrument manufacturers, so I really don't hold it against them. What I do hold against them is the sales person followed me around the store as if I was going to steal something. I walked in the "amp room" because I saw a Fender tube amp sitting on top of an 8 speaker (I think) box. It was huge and used. The salesman stood at the door while I was in there. Most of the stuff is used but you can place an order for new. I didn't see new amps, just used. I purchased a few nominal items and left even though I am looking for a power source for my effects pedal, but decided I'll get it online. It's the 4th or 5th time I've been there and haven't spent more that $50 collectively over the years. I guess I can use them for emergencies like strings and such. Too bad. I really wanted to support this store. read more

I was actually building my third acoustic guitar. I've been carpenter for 35 years and have worked with exotic woods my entire life. I was so excited to find a music store with an instrument repair service. Repairing instruments is not a career you'll get rich doing it's done for the love of being a true craftsman. I was elated at the idea of talking shop with someone to bounce ideas off of, share some secrets lol. What I got was the biggest bunch of mumbo jumbo Ive ever heard. I asked he he had any binding material for gutar building and was told I had no idea what I was doing and that if I used the wrong chemical it might react with another chemical that would cause a chain reaction and destroy the instrument. I should just let the pros handle it. I could not believe he just tried to sell me on the notion that I might possibly use the wrong glue and cause a reaction that might rip a hole I. time and space thus creating a black hole and destroy the universe. I was gonna buy strings to be nice but decided it best not to for fear I might buy the wrong kind and end all humanity. read more

This music store was a hidden gem as I did not know that it existed in my area I'm so glad that I found it! I didn't think to write a review of Boogie Music until very recently, but figured better late than never. As a band geek for many, many years, this was a favorite place to go for all my band geek necessities. They always had what I needed, and they knew their shit. (A short history of my musical past: picked the alto sax as "my" instrument in 4th grade, was in all sorts of bands up until my freshman year in college, and after that kind of put it aside for a long time until recently.) It wasn't until about a year ago, that I actually needed to visit their store again. I was attempting to get back into playing my sax, but noticed that the pads on the keys had deteriorated. Age and the dry Phoenix climate had pretty much wrecked the leather. So, I was in need of getting them replaced. I shopped around, asking different music stores if they could do the repair and how much it would cost. (I knew it could end up costing a few hundred dollars.) In the end, Boogie got my business. I knew they'd be reliable and honest. And, I was right. I brought my sax in, and the person I spoke to looked at my sax and pointed out the problem pads. He didn't try to pressure me into getting all the pads replaced, but was respectful with my decision to just get the necessary ones replaced. He explained to me what they would do and answered any questions I had. The price was really reasonable, and they had it ready for me within a week. What's even better is they are a full-service music store. They've got it all and more! Guitars, amps, drums, band instruments, keyboards, DJ and sound equipment, sheet music, music lessons, and even the ability to rent equipment for big events. This review is lonnnng overdue... My family, friends and I have been shopping at boogie music for years. From my snare drum rental close to 10 years ago to my last pair of drum sticks I purchased a week ago, boogie music has been great. The owner is usually there and has always came by himself to say hi or ask if i needed help. I was happy to see them at an outside event as well.. i got to spin their prize wheel and won a $50 gift card! They are very generous with giving back to their customers, matching competitors prices always and just overall providing great service. Their pricing is usually always less than the competition even though they are a smaller "local" type shop. Great selection. Everything you could need. Boogie Music has been pretty much my go-to guitar store since I bought a very nice Taylor 716e from them in 2010. After nine years of everyday use, I took it in for a long overdue setup. Brent did a fantastic job, the action, tone and intonation are everything I had hoped for and more. Brent called me yesterday while he was working on my guitar, and we had a long conversation, I am somewhat knowledgeable about setup parameters and we had a very productive conversation as to how he could best meet my desires. We also talked about several other guitar-related topics, turns out he's at least as guitar-geeky as me. Today when I picked up my guitar, Brent came out and, again, spent a lot of time with me as I tested things out. All I can say is, I have never received the type of knowledgeable, personable service at any other guitar shop in the valley. This company was recommended by my kids' school to rent a violin, so we thought we would give them a try. When we went in there, the man working the counter was rude and short with the customers. He even disapproved of another customer browsing the store while waiting to be helped. They failed to get all the info off my debit card they needed, so when the first rental fee was due they called me. It took me a couple days to get a hold of them because it was a busy weekend for me and they were always closed when I called them back. I gave them the info they needed and all was good, or so I thought. The next month I had a higher charge than we agreed, so I called them and they said there was a late fee added, but they would fix it since it was their fault the last payment was late. A week later, the first charge was still there in addition to another charge of the right amount. I called again and they said they didn't have any records of the second charge. I asked them to look into it anyway. A week later I got a call back. They found the extra charge and would reverse it and give me the next month free. Well this month, the free month, I got charged anyway. So I called them again! Even though there was a note on my account, they ran the payment anyway then supposedly reversed it right away. Well, four days later I am still waiting for my money back. Bottom line for me...they will happily overcharge you, but are slow and uncooperative when you ask them to make it right. That's pretty poor business ethics. Updated to add : Then my daughter decided she really liked playing the violin, so we wanted to buy her one. They have two nice cheap ones on their website, so we took the rental back to the store to trade it in. They told us that we couldn't apply the rental money to a cheap one, it had to be a higher end one, where the prices started at $800. They did not tell us that when we rented and they wouldn't let us get a cheaper one with the rental money. So, we rented a violin for 9 months expecting to be able to trade it in for a purchase , but instead found out we wasted our money with these crooks who like to leave out the details and change the rules as they see fit. It would be much cheaper and much less of a hassle to just purchase an instrument from Amazon. read more
