Jim has had two of my Squier Telecasters since September of 2022 for setups and new pots. He has returned only one email "Not Done". He has failed to return three subsequent emails. His shop is a rat's nest and I'd bet he has lost my guitars and the double bass gig bag they were stored in due to the clutter and his inattention to customers. TLDR: Quoted 4 weeks, took 7 months to get a hold of them and get my unrepaired guitar back. Wanted to support the little guy so I brought my guitar here for a cracked head stock. Should've turned around the minute I walked in because it's a rats nest of guitars inside. They said 4 weeks, and after 2 months of nothing, I started calling and showing up during business hours and got no response. After SEVEN months and probably 5+visits I finally showed up when he was there. He'd misplaced it, lost the tag, (he has no digital inventory system so he couldn't reference a system) AND hadn't even repaired it. Went to Guitar Center and had it fixed next week. read more

I went in after sending a detailed email for a custom pick-guard. The owner is a bit weird, but super knowledgeable and nice to chat guitars with. After leaving him with my custom body and picking out the tortoise shell I liked, he told me it would be about a week. I took the invoice he wrote me and left. Flash forward a couple weeks, I send an email to no response. Flash forward another two weeks I ask for an ETA on the pick-guard. Flash forward another week I let him know I'm coming in, he responds that he'll be there. He never touched my order. Guy seems completely disorganized in there. No money for loss of time, just disappointed in how sad the business is. It's one or two guys taking on way too much. Messaged these guys a while ago about a custom pickup for my Strat, initially had pretty fast and regular responses asking about the specifics. Then went about a week with no response, so I asked for an update, nothing. After a few more days I said I was taking my business elsewhere, and IMMEDIATELY received a multi paragraph copy-paste response about how I'm impatient, the kind of person to cancel my order and leave bad reviews... well, you reap what you sow buddy. I told them it doesn't matter how good your product is when your customer service is nonexistent, and they told me I was never a customer. Don't waste your time. Amazing store literally right out of my childhood with almost everything an enthusiast and professional could want at reasonable prices. Surprisingly good selection despite the layout and mess. This is not a typical guitar shop and much more caters as a parts shop, with occasional treasures. They are always slammed with repairs and do an incredible job with those and setups. Worth your time if your a hobbyist, or looking for a hard to find part or need something repaired. For the faint of heart or OCD it is catastrophically messy but such is life. read more

Unreliable and dishonest. I bought a pickguard from this charlatan online and upon receipt it did not resemble the reference image that he had supplied. I contacted him and he agreed to replace with another pickguard if I would mail him back the original. After I confirmed his receipt of the returned pickguard with USPS and a few days had passed by I followed up regarding the replacement pickguard. After two weeks and several more messages having been ignored I started a claim with my credit card company, at which point I received a response immediately. Now he wants a restocking fee and cannot supply a replacement. Beware this thief, if there is a problem he resorts to cowering behind the computer in his shop and sucking his thumb. His word means nothing to him, there's a cog missing somewhere inside this pathetic individual. read more

I went down there looking for a plate for the back of my electric guitar. I'd already been turned away from Guitar Center, and Central Music so I wasn't too hopeful. But when I went in I was warmly welcomed by the owner. He was very willing to look at my guitar and seemed VERY knowledgeable. In no time he found a plate that fit perfectly and screwed it on. I know, some people might say that that wasn't allot to do, but the kindness and willingness he expressed to help me was worth a million. Took my Jackson Soloist in to have my input jack soldered because the audio signal was cutting out to my amp. I later discovered the employee replaced the original Jackson humbucker bridge pickup with a used B.C. Rich pickup from who knows where or what, saying that was the problem. Years later, the problem continues, it's not my only guitar. Then I open it up to see the input wire the input jack is loose, not soldered. Not only did I pay for nothing, I lost the originality of this guitar. read more

On the phone, the guy was polite and helpful. I explained I'd be down during the week to get an appraisal. I verified their hours. I showed up the next day around 12:45pm. Doors were locked and no one answered the phone. It was super frustrating driving a long distance with a toddler. Precision Guitar saved my axe! I bought a Chinese knock off of a Brian May hoping for the best. At first it was fine, but unfortunately after our first rain storm after I got the guitar. The neck freaked out and the strings were laying on the neck. Sadness sets in. The truss rod was adjusted and I reset the action and wuala playable once a gain. After a while, I was playing the guitar and noticed some frets choking out at the second fret and played other places no problem. I took the guitar to to Precision thinking the worst like we can;t help this guitar. Not only did the they save my guitar, they made awesome. Fixed problems I didn't know I had. And extremely fair price. For all the work they did and me being such pain - these guys are awesome. The guys are really nice and patient with everyone that come through the door. I needed help figuring out how to connect my microphone cable into my Bose Sound Dock II. The owner stayed late so I could bring in my equipment to show him. He pulled together all the cables and connectors that I needed. He had two of the three items that I needed. He wrote down the name of the third connector that I needed from Fry's Electronics or Radio Shack. I appreciated his helpfulness and knowledge base. Tip: this store is hard to find in the dark. I don't even live in Phoenix and yet I use these folks to fix my guitars. I have had them set up and repair two acoustic guitars of mine and both times I have been impressed with their repair skills. I asked for one guitar to be set up, which they did nicely, but they pointed out a loose section of the bridge and had to fabricate a piece of wood to fix it properly. Well done. The other visit with my other guitar they had to reglue a section of the top and also repair the nut which had been badly adjusted by another shop during set up and now it is like new. read more

I also took my HSS Strat to Jim at PrecisionGuitar for fret buzz and some dead bends a couple years ago and his work is still holding up. He lowered my action too. This involved cutting the channel for the steel nut of the Floyd-Rose system to sit lower since it was much too high out of the factory. It's a rare thing to have a Fender curved fretboard and be able to have both very low action and constantly bend strings to the max without deadening out AT ALL. When I'm enjoying this guitar I often think how valuable Jim's work is to me. He has done fret & neck work on a couple other Fender's I have as well. I've paid handsomely to other Luthiers (for total re-frets among other things) over my 40 years of playing - sometimes with painful outcomes - and so I know what a valuable resource to AZ musicians this shop is and I take great pleasure in recommending Precision Guitar.
