Started taking lessons with Brett 18 years ago when I was 13 years old, and have to say, I learned more from him than any teacher on my musical journey. He prepared me for numerous auditions spanning from rock and jazz bands to drumlines and performance groups. He inspired me to push myself harder and it ended up paying off ten-fold. A few examples of my successes due to Brett include making the tenor line on the ASU drumline as a freshman, becoming a paid musician as part of PHX percussion (Phoenix Suns Drumline), working as a touring musician in a band throughout my early 20's including gigs on the Warped Tour and multiple national tours and preparing me for teaching opportunities at Ironwood and St. Mary's High Schools. To say Brett had a profound influence on my life would be an understatement. He can give you the tools, it depends on how the student chooses to use them. I do see one negative review referencing his teaching style. Brett provides one-hour sessions, sometimes with multiple students of the same skill level, which gives you an opportunity to work through complicated rhythms during the lesson rather than getting a crash course in 30 minutes like most other instructors. He is as hands on as you need him to be. This was the only environment that I felt I actually learned in rather than going home and teaching myself. Still to this day, I go in and take occasional lessons with Brett to help me continue to develop different styles and expand my knowledge base. I recommended my brother start taking my nephew in to start his journey in drums with him when he turned 8 and I will definitely be taking my children in someday (if I have them in time before he retires)! I don't know what I can add to these other excellent reviews! As a 50 year old rock drummer that last took lessons in the 8th grade, I have to tell you that I was a bit apprehensive at first. I scheduled my first lesson not really knowing what to expect. I found his studio was comfortable, well equipped and non-threatening. Brett's enthusiasm and teaching style is refreshing. He connects well with his students and is very patient. Brett is an awesome instructor and an amazing drummer. His prices are very affordable, really for the price it would be hard to find a better drummer willing to talk with you let alone teach you! I would fully recommend DrummersRule! to any aspiring drummer at any experience level. And for you older folks, yes you can teach an old dog new tricks. read more

I was taking lessons at drummers rule , not bad teaching but after several months it dawned on me how Brett knew quite a bit about my life , my nephew in New York , mostly my political views. One day as I was leaving he was yelling at me to stop reading this paper or that article , then it dawned on me that he was going on my FACE BOOK PAGE even when I was practicing and continued to press my buttons over my political beliefs. I was fortunate enough to be able to take lessons with Brett and learn some jazz patterns and other various technique/style/rhythms. Brett has a different approach to teaching where he'll give you a rudiment/piece of music and let you feel it out and play it, but instead of standing over your shoulder and making you feel nervous, he leaves the room and let's you feel more relaxed and comfortable. At first I was a little annoyed that I was paying for a lesson and that he was somewhere else tending to other things while I struggled away, but after a lesson or two I realized he was listening and that this approach made it easier for me to play loose and not stress over mistakes. When I took lessons with him he had 4 high end Roland electronic sets and a beautiful Yamaha maple stage custom. I hated the electronic kits and Brett usually went out of his way to schedule time for me on the maple. So if electronic kits aren't your thing, just let Brett know and he'll make sure you're happy. Also, the value is insane. You will not find a better deal from a better instructor anywhere in Arizona. And obviously, part of the business model is based on him leaving the room to help other students. However, if you take lessons with Brett, you will become a better a drummer and at a fraction of a the cost if you were to go somewhere else. read more
