A while back I brought a Gibson 335 to get setup. Open chord tuning was off even after perfect open string tuning, the nut needed to either be replaced or fixed. Bought the guitar from Sweetwater and the repair was on their dime. I told him this. Expensive guitar really wanted to get it setup, fixed and playable. The guy returns the guitar to me with the action so low it sounds like I'm slapping a bass. $89 - did nothing I asked and dismissed my concerns. Literally worse than when I brought it in. My bad for not playing it before I left. But honestly, I just wanted to get out of there, because the guy is obsessed with politics and literally won't stop talking. Just stick to guitars, bro. I was referred to the place, but I think Atomic was based on a partnership, and the other partner left, so who knows, maybe it was good at one time, but I think the talent left. read more

so i have an ltd dave mustaine custom axxion guitar so its already a pain in the a$$....i bought all new parts for it including pickup rings, tuners, bridge ( and all its fixings), 3 way toggle, nut, pentometers, ferreals, literally everything but the pickups that come with that guitar which are the black chrome 18v custom dave mustaine seymour duncans. long story short i couldnt get the pickups to work so brought it in to atomic he quoted me 30$ to wire it all up would take about a week. fine that was cool....come 9 days later and i called and he said it was ready but it was gonna be 80$ and not the original 30$....i was like wtf ever just give me my baby back....i paid the 83$ or whatever....get home and noticed some weird shit done to my guitar. remember i bought all new stuff for my guitar he switched the inner knobs for all different ones that were smooth were you would put a volume knob .....the g and the b string were switched which i found odd as f**k, the battery wires werent going thru the holes that were made for it....and its still not wired correctly for 18v.....kills a battery in less than 20 minutes!!!!very very displeased with this service..... read more

I have a 1982 Fender Strat that needed to be restrung and set up. I bought the guitar used quite some time ago and it had some customization done to it. I couldn't get it set up right since it has a Floyd-Rose bridge. I originally took it to Musical Surprise to see if I could have it set up. The tech at Musical Surprise recommended Atomic Guitar Works. The guys at Atomic Guitar Works were great! I wasn't sure if I even wanted to keep the Fender. But once they set it up it was great!!! I've taken my Eastman Jazz box to them for the initial set up with heavier strings and it is nirvana to play. I brought 2 guitars in for different issues. I had fret buzz on one fret and one string on an acoustic and dead pickup in an electric. They were able to help me with both issues without charging me anything. They determined the acoustic needed to be humidified and the dead pickup just had some dust in the volume pot. I needed at least one guitar I have to feel like the old 60's/70's Gibsons and Fenders I used to own back then. Brought in an Ibanez AF-155 and asked if they could get me that feel-like-butter vibe. Took my acoustic in here for a crack repair, full setup and cleaning. Overall, I was very satisfied with the crack repair, they did a good job refinishing the crack so you can barely tell it's there. The setup and cleaning was a joke. When I got the guitar back there was absolutely no way that they cleaned it, there was still dust and spots on it. I had to take the guitar back because one of the strings was completely buzzing. I ended up taking it to another shop to get re-setup because they did such a crappy job (while charging a high price). I wouldn't recommend this place. Side note: they completely ignore you when you walk in - very bad customer service. read more

Another awesome job to report. This time, I needed a MAJOR modification done to one of my other (prized) guitars. This actually involved routing the pickup cavities deeper on a guitar that is brand spanking new, so any minor mishap could be disastrous. I won't go into the whole rambling story of how I came to use this store (another store effed up a leveling job). Atomic Guitar Works are pros at guitar repair and building. They are custom builders of guitars. Harry is very friendly and helpful. They did an ace fret leveling and crown job on my brand new Stratocaster. So I'm spreading the news, this shop is good, very good, and I'll be taking more guitars to them for maintenance. Update: Ok I took a Fender Jaguar in for pickup replacement, new pickguard, a new bridge, and a set-up. Work was done very timely & Tim at Atomic was helpful in explaining what they did and how to maintain the bridge. Great experience again! read more

I recently acquired a 67 Greco Electric Guitar that needed some work. Two of the pickups were not working. I took it to a "Center" that shall remain nameless. Their solution? Gut the wiring and two new pickups to the tune of $400. Wanting to keep the guitar original I decided to get a second opinion at Atomic Guitar Works. Tim was helpful. He took the time to go over what could be wrong and how much it would cost. Turns out there were some wiring issues only with the pickups and for less than a 1/3 of the cost, this guitar is up and running awesomely. Its all still original. Brought a Partscaster Telecaster in for them to do some neck and set up work. The guitar had a few issues. They were friendly, informative, and willing to spend the time to get to know the needs. What I really loved was the great communication. When they experienced an unknown issue they called, gave me a rundown, explaining in full the problem and solution, expected costs, and a new timeline which they honored like champs. They actually called me on the days they said they would! Other places are like dropping things into a black hole with very little communication through the process. Not these guys.
