Truly a GEM in the gold country foothills. My 5 star rating is on the taste and care he puts into his wines and craft of wine-making. This "gem" is located at the Bernhard Museum right beside the fairgrounds in beautiful Old Town Auburn. My wife and I always stop by to taste and buy wine every single time we go to Auburn. We have gotten to know Mark Bonitata and we always end up chatting with him for at least a half and hour to an hour each visit. This is a small boutique winery tasting room. Most times, you can get a "one on one" experience with Mark. With this being said, you get to know him as he also starts talking about the grapes, the season, fluctuations, etc. These are the things my wife (Tricia M) and I love talking about. Back to Mark and his reds. Fantastic wine you will not be disappointed with. Mark also keeps his prices in check with the area. He prides himself in what he sells to the public. You will not be sold a "young" wine put out before it's ready. I have also reviewed Mark mistakenly under the Baumbach Winery which they had not updated information until recently. You will not be disappointed with his wines. This is a "gem" you cannot pass by if wine tasting or even just visiting Old Town Auburn in the beautiful foothills up Highway 80 East towards Reno.

This is actually really cool little spot, in Auburn, next to the fairgrounds. Wines are great, and I was very happy to finally find a Winery that had a Cabernet! So we took it home, an 09 Rutherford Cab, Its a small , one room building that is from the late 1800's you can rent out the entire thing for a small gathering, and that sounded like a lot of fun for us. The person there was very friendly, but I can't remember her name. Swing by and try it out!

From the buttery Chardonnay to the Mystery Blend red, each wine was delicious. In a historic 1874 building this winery is worth finding.

This winery is worth finding. In a building that's been a winery since 1874 this casual setting is ideal for tasting. Mark, the owner, is knowledgeable and easy to talk to - open to answering questions and sharing his love for wine and wine making.

Great intimate tasting with the owner, Mark. He opens the place for parties, the wine is great and it's local. Visit this place...it's charming. Will not disappoint...

Winery located in a historic landmark from 1879!

I tasted on Sunday at The Old Sugar Mill. The owner was very personable and a pleasure to do business with. The wine was great too!

This tasting room is looking to provide high quality service that people would expect from more established wineries and they are doing it right. I've been here 4 times by the time of writing this review and the experiences have all been fantastic. All the staff really do invest in the guests. Very knowledgeable about the wine and dishes. They take the time to really break down the wine and food if you don't know your stuff like me. They check up on you frequently! I really enjoyed the Carmenere wine. It's not as dry and is easily palatable for people who don't usually prefer red wines. I'm not super knowledgable in wine, but the flavors were earthy and slightly dark fruity taste. Some nights they have live music or events to meet the owners. Can't wait to see how the vineyard turns out if this is just a sneak peak of what's to come!

Our wine host was friendly, super knowledgeable on the wine varieties as well as giving interesting wine descriptions. I thought the pours were generous and I didn't feel rushed. I liked that I was given time to investigate and enjoy which wines I wanted to purchase. I bought 4 bottles to enjoy at home. The Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and Sierra red were my top three favorites. I docked a star since it's not really a vineyard and you have a view of Highway 80 but overall it's a great little escape and great way to spend the afternoon.

Went to a nearby winery we'd visited before, and had a perfectly nice time and tasting. Wanted to check out one more, and saw PaZa nearby. It's the epitome of husband and wife operation. A cute little gazebo and a number of tables and chairs on a beautiful hill overlooking a small vineyard. Don't expect a Napa castle and 'chic' gift shop. It's perfect for a few friends or chatting w the table next to you. The owner, Zane, was amazing and spent a good hour with us, talking about his wines, the vineyard, and the history of wineries in Placer. But what was unexpected was how good the wines are! Most of the time, at local wineries, you're 'meh'. Good wines, but nothing special. You'll grab a bottle and thats that. But here, I actually REALLY enjoyed each wine we tried. His fermenting process is 'old-school' using huge clay (amphorae) cisterns vs stainless steel, and a variety of other nuances that seemed to really make a difference. I literally ended up buying a bottle of everything we tried (much to the amusement of my wife). This is now my new favorite winery in the area.
