Went to a nearby winery we'd visited before, and had a perfectly nice time and tasting. Wanted to check out one more, and saw PaZa nearby. It's the epitome of husband and wife operation. A cute little gazebo and a number of tables and chairs on a beautiful hill overlooking a small vineyard. Don't expect a Napa castle and 'chic' gift shop. It's perfect for a few friends or chatting w the table next to you. The owner, Zane, was amazing and spent a good hour with us, talking about his wines, the vineyard, and the history of wineries in Placer. But what was unexpected was how good the wines are! Most of the time, at local wineries, you're 'meh'. Good wines, but nothing special. You'll grab a bottle and thats that. But here, I actually REALLY enjoyed each wine we tried. His fermenting process is 'old-school' using huge clay (amphorae) cisterns vs stainless steel, and a variety of other nuances that seemed to really make a difference. I literally ended up buying a bottle of everything we tried (much to the amusement of my wife). This is now my new favorite winery in the area.

They offer tastings as well as glasses ($10 each) and bottles that range from $27-$30. I tried their 2023 Grenache Blanc, 2023 Malbec Rose, Mix Red Blend, 2021 Barbera & 2019 Primitivo. All the wines tasted great and had a good complexity. Happy Dayz is a family owned winery with a husband and wife duo. They love their craft, which you can tell from their wines and the overall experience they provide. They are only open select weekends so be sure to check their website and social media for those details. In addition to offering great wines a wonderful experience, they give back to a local non-profit in Sacramento called GiGiś Playhouse and donate 21% of all Malbec Rosé sold. I loved that it was a smaller winery on an organic farm with gorgeous views and excellent service. It is a short 5 min walk up a gravel/dirt road from the small parking area to the tasting area so ladies may want to avoid heels (our sandals were just fine). The couple that owns the winery were so personable, loved that he brought out each of the tastings and chatted with us about the wine & farm origins, while his wife made the biscotti & gave us all samples to try - yum! The tasting was so reasonably priced and I couldn't believe a personal charcuterie board was included too. Of course, the wine was all very good and we purchased some bottles to take home. I only wished we could have stayed longer than the two hour time limit (based on space).
