Every year we go two days before Christmas and get the country sausage links. They were the BEST! But this year 2025 my sister picked up 12 links. My anticipation was uncontrollable! 9/15/25 "Bones" bought the original "Bowens" grocery when the Bowens family retired several years ago. Defiantly not the same style of friendly home style grocery and especially in the luncheon area that used to be Great! Purchased a tuna sandwich got back to work opened the sandwich so much tuna piled on the bread it was soggy and disgusting tossed it. Yesterday my sister and I purchase family size vegetable beef soup " we love it, usually but this time to much tomato stock no beef flavor, only a few pieces of beef and instead of peeled potoatoes like usual they were unpeeled cut in half different sized. Just not the good food we were used to. On another note...barely any item has prices from ice cream to bread/ rolls even milk no prices. Either purchase without the price it half to ask before buying at the cashier! So sad Miss the great market the grocery was as Bowens not as Bones. Infact now that I think about it the new name is all about bare Bones. The owners need to rethink and look into prices and food service area. Thanks. read more

3.17.20 Well I've been to Giant the pat 3 Sr no bread or milk came here to Bowen's and they have what I need bred and milk plenty of it an f hamburger also. What is wrong people u can still get out to the store to get things needed to live. I went to the deli and ordered some deli meat I asked the lady to please cut it very thin she cut two slices and they were very thick I asked her to go thinner she did but it was still way too thick she kind of got an attitude because I wanted it thin. Finally she got it I went to get bread came back and not the meat it like chipped. Ice cream great! Booze selection, great! The drama and loud gossiping by short female worker... totally unprofessional. The whole store heard, several times as she insisted on telling the same slander story about her absent coworker. The deli, used to be good. Now... the sandwiches are suspect. I have no idea what to expect. They take a crazy amount of time to make and don't have the ingredients listed on the board. In my opinion the staff in the deli needs some serious supervision, training and quality control measures. read more

I was debating whether or not I should write a review due to alot of good reviews I see, but maybe this can help the store in the long run. Also, since my health is involved I want to speak on it and possibly help someone else. I have a positive and a negative experience based on my last encounter. The positive is before going to the store I was constipated for a few days and nothing helped. I mean nothing!!!!!! After eating my Steak n cheese and two bites of my husband cheeseburger within 30 minutes we both were spitting out lava from the place that doesnt shine This went on all night, even up to now. THANK THE HEAVENS FOR MULTIPLE BATHROOMS IN OUR HOME. My stomach has been in knots for almost 24 hours, but at least im no longer constipated right???? The negative is this isnt the first time we ate one of their subs and got sick, so it leaves me to believe its definitely a health issue matter that may need to be addressed. It makes me wander how many people dont speak up on these kind of situations because it is a small Mom and Pop shop. I get it, they are doing the best they can, but when customers health began to come in play it may be a problem. I blame us a little because both times the meat tasted funny, but we tried to ignore it due to hunger. This is another gas station in Maryland that will shock you with quality of the food. I've been to a gas station in Elkridge that had great Mexican food. There is one near me with great Chinese. This one has great American food. Plus a meat counter and a small grocery store. The prices are higher hear than say a Giant, Safeway, or Harris Teeter. I like this spot because it's a small country store. I also love when I go in with my son and (who I presume to be) the owners ask him if they can have some of his candy or if he will share with mommy. The fact that they take the time to speak to the customers is a plus. This store has almost everything you need. They offer hot, cold, frozen, and canned foods. There is also a small variety of wine and wine coolers. For those that like to jazz it up, there's candy, ice cream, and nuts. I grew up in this area and Bowen's grocery is a favorite Mom and Pop grocery store of the locals. Stop by for a sandwich or burger and an ice cream cone. They also sell some Amish bread, little trinkets and knick-knacks and candy that my grandparents would serve in a candy dish such as candied almonds. Staff is really nice and place can get packed during lunch hour, but the wait is certainly worth it. read more

Bowen's Grocery has been around since '29 and offers fresh meats, poultry, seafood, groceries, a full service deli, as well as some local/handmade specialty gifts. The deli is located in the rear of the grocery, and they have daily lunch specials, breakfast options, soups, hot/cold subs, sandwiches, salads, wraps, burgers, side items (such as potato salad, cole slaw, macaroni salad, etc.), and desserts, all made from scratch and homemade. The hubs tried their Egg Salad sandwich on white, and I tried their homemade Banana Pudding - the egg salad sandwich, while generously piled within the slices of bread, was a bit underwhelming, as it was bland and seemed like chopped up deviled eggs. I really enjoyed the Banana Pudding, however - ever-so-slightly sweeter than the usual, but the pudding itself had a great banana flavor, large slices of fresh bananas, and mini vanilla cookies (available in 1/2 or a 1lb container, but they weight it, so feel free to request the amount you prefer). Service was super friendly, and the spot seems to be a favorite among the locals for carry-out during the lunch rush. There are some cool handcrafted wooden kitchen utensils from PA up at the front by the cashier, so be sure to check them out. Been coming here since I was a kid, and though it hasn't been as frequent since I moved out of the area this place is still thriving in the county. The service always comes with a smile, and it's the kind of place you don't mind coming to spend your money. The store is always well stocked, and I have never had any complaints on the quality of the merchandise. The deli sandwiches that are prepared in the back of the store are very good, and not badly priced. It's amazing how this place has stood the test of times, and has been able to modernize itself, without losing its down home feel. If you in the area, you should definitely check it out. read more

First time in the store was on my lunch break. I tend to enjoy smaller country feel stores, and this definitely gave me that feel. There's an assortment of goods to buy including veggies/fruits, liquor/wine, ice cream, local baked goods, and of course their deli. The deli had a great selection of meats to choose from as well as plenty of cost efficient lunch items. A nice grocery store and deli where most of the workers have been very kind to me, a friend of mine used to work here and I'm sure that most of the people there know me whether they know my name or not because I've been there many times throughout my life living around here... The food at the deli is also very good too, I have had some of the chocolate pudding like dessert as well as my friends and I used to walk here often from our neighborhoods and meet up to eat burgers and curly fries which are very very delicious here and you tend to get your food pretty quickly here as well and can eat inside or outside whichever you prefer or just take your stuff with you... Also the soft serve ice cream is very good as well with their chocolate chip chocolate ice cream with chocolate sprinkles or something being my favorite to get! This is a very nice family-owned business/store with the only downside being that the prices will probably tend to be higher here than at a big grocery store such as giant or Weis. 4 or 4.5/5 stars read more

Sweet little country store with Fresh meats and sandwiches and the staff is always pleasant.

I love this store, from the bulletin board in the entryway, the ice cream, fresh cut watermelon, local berries, flowers in the spring, pumpkins in fall. The story about how the PG highschool kids stole the bull and repainted it and how it was randomly found, even disguised under paint, now it is chained to the roof and isn't going anywhere. And at Christmastime, it pulls a sleigh. Then there's a windmill by the picnic tables. It's just a nice place to go to. Nice family run business! My only complaint is that they need to plant a tree in the parking lot to give the picnic tables some shade! read more

Anyways I was craving for some ice cream went up to the counter and was looking and they had something called banana pudding ice cream oh my God had it in a cup large portion was great phenomenal chasing I couldn't wait to go back to get some sent my boyfriend Jason in the next day to get banana pudding ice cream in a cup came home with nothing why he asked for regular banana pudding and then send him back to the deli and they didn't have any a well disappointment not on Bolens groceries fault but on my boyfriend's miscommunication I was sicker than a dog not because of the food I just wanted my banana pudding however two days later went back in with my boyfriend Jason and showed him the greatest taste and ice cream banana pudding ice cream in a cup large portion could not have made my day any better besides being with my boo thanks balance groceries I love you and the great tasting banana pudding ice cream can't wait to stop in again read more

I've been going here since I was 6. For 44 years. They have always had excellent meats and sandwiches. Loved it when they started the rotisserie chicken. My granddaughter loves the ice cream. They have groceries - a huge candy selection - good coffee & donuts. When I get Oysters I get them here (back by the deli)in a glass pint or quart jar they're the best. The people there are genuinely nice people. The family that owns it are wonderful down to earth people who have been doing this all their lives. If you want to go back in time and see Calvert County go here this is one of the last pieces of Calvert County left. We have stopped for their oysters on several occasions and they are always fresh, briny and delicious. Today, when purchasing our quart of oysters my husband and I decided to share a 12 inch Italian Sub. And what a sub it was! The meat was about 2 inches thick on a nice crusty roll. It was a meal for $8.00 and put Subway and Firehouse Subs to shame. The hand cut meats looked so fresh and tempting. I know my husband was just about drooling over the New York Strip steaks. You don't always have the convenience of choosing where to eat lunch when you're a traveling worker. Being the only lunch spot open in the area due to covid19, I put me mask on and go inside check out the menu. The guy behind the counter asked if I needed any meat (steak etc.) he could help me but if I'm ordering lunch I need to call in. So I call in and while talking, I get interrupted by one of the staff members asking me to please call from outside the store.As if walking through the store, ordering meat from the counter they're all working at or standing in store after i order is any better than being respectful and calling it in right where I can see the menu and tell them what I don't want with my lunch.... this just made no sense at all! To be clear this post does not speak for the food, and I wasn't going to raise hell about this situation in store. So here I am venting the frustration I left the business with.
