Tbh very good, love that you can get however much of whichever pizza you want, lets you try a bunch! They were very yummy - especially the crispy onion and hot honey chicken, those are unmissable. The spicy eggplant pizza was also good. Would definitely return and try more kinds

Love that they have vegan options!!! Went in for a quick bite to eat and found multiple vegan options ready to eat--they had the spicy eggplant, spicy arrabbiata, potato rosemary, and mushroom Rosa. Everything was sooo delicious! We didn't try to spicy eggplant but will need to next time. They don't have vegan cheese but honestly, they don't need it.

Outstanding. I got it delivery, and it was really good. I tried the pepperoni, the sausage, and the plain cheese. All were very tasty. The crust has a nice chew to it, and a crispy outside. The sauce is flavorful without being overpowering. The toppings were of very high quality, and were seasoned to be very flavorful. It was no boring pepperoni or sausage like you might normally find on a pizza. The toppings ingredients were really elevated. Really great pizza, and I hope to eat there in person some day.

Crispy rectangular pizza. Lots of options. You can adjust the size of the slice you want and they weigh it and price it based on weight. Casual atmosphere and casual walk in pizzeria. Great for a quick lunch or snack. Price a bit steep.. my slice was around $7. But it tasted good and was crispy after they heated it. I would come back.

The food at Bonci was quite delicious. Great yummy options for vegetarian pizzas. Ambiance was quite intimate and compact. A good place for a date or to catch up with a friend. The service was quite average. Expected a little more help from the staff for first time visitors in terms of their concept and how we can place an order. Overall good experience!

If you are a true pizza lover, Bonci is a must-visit in Chicago. Their pizza by the slice (al taglio) concept allows you to try different flavors, and it is absolutely worth it! The crust is simply perfect: incredibly light, crispy on the outside, and airy on the inside.

This pizza place is the best in Chicago! Limited seating but cool chic vibes with the wooden decor and bottles with sit down stools at the wooden slab. I love the idea of trying different pizzas and seeing it made fresh. The service was quick and the guy was great about giving me what I want. Overall I will definitely be returning and wished there were more locations! You always have room for this pizza even after a meal!

Needed a quick bite before end of the day and stumbled upon this place. I was looking for vegan options which they did have, unfortunately they do not have vegan cheese but honestly, they were pretty good without it. You get to pick the size of your own slice. y two options were delicious and my sister enjoyed her as well. We were a little bit confused on how it worked, but the employees were able to help us!

(G)o - go for a casual bite to eat! Not a lot of indoor seating and kind of cold in the restaurant. (W)ow - They have a great variety of square shaped Roman style pizzas (rectangular pie with thin crust) and it's fun to watch how they heat it up in front of you. Very relaxed atmosphere. (A)ge - young working adults usually grabbing takeout (M)enu - The meatball ragu pizza is delicious and they get the bottom so crispy. It's awesome how fresh and hot the pizza is served, but mind you it kind of takes a while to heat up so be prepared for a wait.

I travel frequently for work and the plethora of cable travel/food shows fills my "To Try" bookmark list with cool dining possibilities I can refer to when I'm looking for an interesting and good dining experience. "Chef's Table" (Season 2 / Episode 1 -- on Netflix) furnished me with the perfect easy/quick "To Try" lunch spot today in Chicago. That episode is about Gabriele Bonci, a famous chef and television personality in Italy, die to his pizza al taglio style pizzas. I know what you're saying, "you said you were visiting Chicago." Well, Chef Bonci happens to co-own 3 Chicago-area pizza restaurants with an American partner and I was pleased to see one of them is a short, seven-minute walk from my hotel. I'll be honest. If it weren't for the show -- and the Yelp reviews -- I probably would have walked past Bonci and not seriously considered it. It's rather drab/plain looking outside and in. It definitely doesn't look like anything special. But I knew I would be in for a treat from watching that show. Don't get me wrong, I found it to be comfortable enough and clean, and the staff is super friendly! I'm just saying there are no frills. But don't go to Bonci for the ambiance (or cocktails, this is a sparking or still water and few soft drinks kind of place) No, GO TO BONCI FOR THE PIZZA!!! The pizza was as delicious as I expected. And my expectations were high. They had so many (good) choices, with rotate daily as I understand it. The staff will answer your questions about the traditional choices (pepperoni, for example), and not traditional (potato & cheese, for example). Then you get to indicate how much of the rectangular pizza or pizzas you'd like them to slice off for reheating. When the reheated, hot pizza comes out of the oven they'll slice it into convenient easy-to-eat squares and hand it over. I was in a "traditional" mood today. I had just one type of pizza. Pepperoni, my personal favorite. But this was the tastiest pepperoni pizza I've ever had. I'll be in Chicago two more days and I strongly suspect I'll head back to Bonci, and be a little more adventurous with my pizza choices.

I love being able to try many pizza options and have little slices, adding up to a reasonable price. The service is great too, with great attention to their customers ordering. The space is decent to dine in and they have an outdoor seating too. The wait was maybe five minutes to have the slices weighed and then heated up. It's not your typical American style pizza. Yet likely healthier.

just wanted to change my review to the 5 because I tried the spicy eggplant again and it was very good, not undersalted at all. I also tried the lemon zest zucchini ricotta and the potato pesto, both were great. bonci is still super affordable and I'll be back lots :)

I absolutely love Bonci. They have locations in Italy and Chicago! I have only been to the Fulton Market location- service was good and the food was delicious. Plenty of meter parking outside and as an fyi - Bonci are cashless! This location is a little narrow inside but there is plenty of seating. It has a casual vibe and rustic decor. The staff were friendly and let me know what pizzas were vegetarian and vegan. You can visually see what pizzas are available for the day and pick and choose what you want to try. The pizza is cut by a scissor and you are charged by how much it weights. Believe it or not my whole board cost 13 bucks. They have plenty of vegetarian options. The potato and cheese and classic Margherita were my favs. But, I also enjoyed the spicy arrabbiata and mushroom pizza. The crust was amazing and holds up really nicely and you can tell all the ingredients are fresh.

Can you order a basic salame piccante & mozzarella pizza or is it only what's made and on display for purchase?

The menu is what they have prepared for the day (what's on display). No made to order as far as I understand!

Are there any dairy free options/can pizzas be made without cheese?

Yes! The spicy eggplant is vegan. The arabiatta is also vegan.

How do you order? Are all the slices the same size or cut to size?

You choose the size of your slice, you pay by the weight. I hope you will come in and try, our employees will gladly help you in the process. I suggest you get smaller slices so you can get more variety.…

My hubby will be visiting your city and I want to know...does it travel well? I want him to bring me back some pizza to California? Have you had anyone do this?

Nothing is ever as good as when it's fresh. By the way they DON'T accept cash. Go figure credit or debit only.

I didn't mind waiting because it gave me and my partner a chance to look over the menu more and ask our server for recs, to which he recommend the Lou Malnatis salad. This salad honestly blew my expectations and I can see why it's such a crowd favorite - the roasted salami bits and gorgonzola cheese provided a really nice savory contrast with the sweet vinaigrette they used. When it comes to the deep dish pizza however, I think deep dish style just isn't for me. You can taste all the ingredients (the cheese, tomato sauce and sausage) but they don't really come together in a cohesive manner. I had one bite and I didn't really feel compelled to take another after, it reminded me of my own home cooking when I would add too much tomato sauce and overcooked the cheese on a lasagna. I'm not saying deep dish pizza or Lou Malnatis is bad necessarily, the service was friendly and attentive, I just think a regular pizza is more my speed.

We started with the Greek salad and flatbread, and they were just as delicious as I remembered. The salad is HUGE--I'll come back to that. For the table, I ordered the half-pound pot pie pizzas. You're given three options: sausage and mushroom, sausage without mushroom, or mushroom only. The first time I visited, I was brought there by a Muslim couple who didn't eat pork. Although I'm not Muslim, I also don't eat pork, and another person in our group doesn't eat mushrooms. We were able to find pot pie options that worked for everyone. I also remember the menus telling the interesting history of the area, including the connection to the Valentine's Day Massacre across the street. That history and character seem to have disappeared as well. When the pizza arrived, I honestly thought a frozen pizza would have tasted better. The sauce tasted like Ragu spaghetti sauce soup, with two nearly raw, completely UNSEASONED whole mushrooms floating in it. It was horrible. Because I don't eat pork, I needed an alternative for the meat. What I received were two DRY, OVERCOOKED, well-done, flavorless hockey pucks disguised as "meat patties" that I was expected to crumble into my pizza. Not one of the five people at our table liked their pizza. My brother, who has also visited this restaurant several times said the pot pie was not how he experienced in the past. At that point, a few of us agreed that we might come back for the salad and flatbread, but the pizza was a complete miss. Then things got worse! As we were getting carry-out containers to take home the remainder of our food--with hopes of somehow doctoring up the pizza in our kitchens--we divided up the leftover salad and flatbread. Our server gave us two condiment containers for the salad dressing. (There are two different dressings that you mix and drizzle over the salad.) We packed up our food, and there was enough salad and bread left for at least two more people. So we asked for additional containers for the dressing. That's when we were told there was a limit of TWO dressing containers per table. WHAT??!!! Even Italian Garden will give you as much dressing as you need without making you feel like you're being upsold to PURCHASE the dressing. At that point, all five of us agreed: the salad and flatbread were good, but they weren't good enough to make us want to return. The watery pizza soufflé and container policy, was a disappointment and turnoff. What I remembered as a unique, memorable Chicago dining experience now felt overrated and more like a tourist trap. It was $250 wasted. I'll also be sharing this experience on my social platforms as well. Honorable mention: The glasses slide around due to the unevenness of the tables (not the booths) and the condensation underneath the drinks. Spend money on the uneven light fixtures outside of your establishment and the rickety tables. Just a thought.

We ended up doing a walk-in on a Sunday night and showed up at 8 PM one hour before close. This worked out for us because we got a really good seat after only waiting for 20 minutes. Service is good and timely- the hostess was super kind and helpful. We started with some cocktails- a Negroni & a spritz (both were good & pretty strong). Then we split the Caesar salad and a pizza with half sausage/olive and mushroom/onion. Yeah, the pizza did blow me away- the crust is perfectly crunchy and so so thin. I wouldn't even describe it as traditional tavern style pizza because I think it's a really crunchy crust- but it's definitely wayyyyy better than Dimi Dimi (that's the most comparable crust imo). The sauce has a slight spice to it, and the whole pizza just feels very layered in terms of flavorful profile. The sausage was also spicy but very good and I absolutely loved the mushroom and onion duo. Sometimes when you go to a certain pizza places, it doesn't feel worth it, but all the ingredients felt elevated here and the pizza had an elevated taste. The Caesar salad had a nice light dressing and a ton of cheese. I wish that the lettuce had a bit more of a crunch to it, but they seemed to use butter lettuce. The inside feels like a classic Italian joint, but it's very small and simple Overall, so glad that I finally went and although it's not a place that I would go regularly because I live far, I would definitely come back!

Came with a friend for dinner around 4 PM and man was it crowded as soon as those doors opened. It had been my first time there and I'm more of a lover of pizza that has a little bit of dough, so we started off with the crispy calamari appetizer, and then went straight in with the artisan style vodka, pizza while adding Italian sausage. Calamari was pretty good, it was lately battered, and not very oily which I appreciated. It came with a lemon as well as some kind of mayo, dipping sauce. It was very delicious and light and came out relatively quickly after ordering. I was trying to see room as the pizza was the absolute star of the show-The cheese came almost the ends of the perfect puffy and doughy crust. Although, the middle of the pizza was thinner than the artesian, puffy crust, yet you could taste everything when you took a first bite. The combination of cheese, sauce, banana peppers, and the Italian sausage was incredible. Now, normally I would think vodka anything would be a little heavier, but it actually was a perfect light bite pizza. We seated in the secondary dining room and it had a very interesting layout, but it was very trendy and modernly decorated. I can't believe how packed it got considering we went in on a Monday. We left around 6:30 and the place was almost fully packed, including their first entrance seating. I fake to the bathroom as I was paying the check, and it was interesting considering the bathrooms were only one stall per gender, which is very unlike River North considering the bathrooms, usually take up a significant portion of the restaurant layout-but who knows, maybe they didn't have the space? We finished off our early lunch with a tiramisu and it didn't come out traditionally looking like a tiramisu, considering it came in a bowl almost as a pudding. It was coated in a dusting of cocoa and chocolate crispy rice balls, but was surprisingly not very coffee flavored. I don't personally like the strong coffee taste into tiramisu-and I found it absolutely delightful, although I would consider it more of a vanilla tiramisu than a traditional. Overall, a very positive experience, the servers were relatively attentive, the prices were moderate for pizza in River North, appetizers and dessert was relatively good as far as pizza goes in Chicago and I look forward to returning sooner than later!!

Big bang buffalo- standard buffalo. Can't go wrong. Hot honey- pretty good, honey flavor, some sweetness Garlic galaxy glaze- this is really good if you like garlic flavor. I would get this again. Bayou in the sky- super super good. I would get this again. Hint of spice, hint of sweet. Carolina bbq- tasted like straight deli mustard. I would pass. The pizza, even though they advertise Detroit Style pizza, their take is more like Focaccia style pizza. They provide nice crunch, not enough sauce. Pretty airy dough. Drooling mushroom- they offer lots of mushrooms on top but the rest of the pizza was not too great. Next time, I would get Ham Radio- pepperoni, bacon, sausage, got and sweet pepper.

That's at the tone for what became unforgettable night. Had the space debri salad which is basically a Greek salad with potatoes and I think in Italian vinaigrette Soooooooooooo for it!!! So delicious After getting it, my buddy had to get one too haha One of us had the moonwalk cheese, we go out for a lot of pizza together, and he said it was he thought his favorite of anywhere. Another one of our crew got the pepperoni pile up loved. And I got the sweet and salty space candy pizza With bacon, pineapple, pickled red onion, goat cheese, sambal. Genius, the goat cheese, instead of ricotta was the move for this pizza! All the flavors worked in perfect harmony.Nothing short of amazing. Cozy spot, super cool atmosphere, couple of old school arcade games like ninja Turtles let's goooo We had so much fun. The drinks were absolutely excellent as well. Oh my God cannot forget this drink program. Galactic gift basket and Jedi mind trick sooo fire. Speaking of perfect harmony, everything at sharpies coexist in a lovely harmony from the all the staff, to the vibe/ambiance and absolutely killer pizza and food. WILL BE BACK! Check em out!
