I have faith in good food, but this faith gets can get trumped by bad service. The fried chicken is crunchy and flavorful and the TTEOKBOKKI is spicy and filling. Don't forget to keep the kimchi coming. Follow those foods with shots of soju and you'll be grateful for the food. The pros are the good food, but the cons are the bad service and long waiting time. We waited 30 minutes to be seated and the restaurant wasn't even full. It felt like another Seinfeld episode. Once we were seated, our waiter was forgetful of our orders and we had to wait another 30 minutes to eat. We can all understand that this restaurant is brand new and trying to employ more people to make this great chicken and Korean food. read more

I am lowering my review of Bonchon because they have majorly increased the prices on DoorDash. They already aren't cheap and now they are just way overpriced. Small order of wings went from 13.95 to 16.95 and seasoned fries from 7.95 to 9.50. I have ordered from them over 10 times since they were on DoorDash and I will no longer. I am a fan. I've had their signature fried chicken at parties and togo for home dinner. It's a breath of fresh air compared to your "typical" fried chicken places. I liked that the regular chicken flavor carries a little punch (spice). Paired with their pickled radish and white rice, it surely is a treat. I've only eaten BonChon Katy's fried chicken twice but that was enough for me to LOVE it. They're crispy, tasty, and taste even better a side of their pickled radishes. I also love that the restaurant is clean, modern and trendy, making it a great casual place to hang out with friends and family. They also have a bar, which is great because so many people love having beer and wings together. In addition to their Korean fried chicken, they have other Korean dishes that I can't wait to try! I heard mixed reviews on this place on yelp but decided to try it anyways. It was well worth the visit. We ordered the large mix of wings and drumsticks and half and half soy garlic and spicy. The chicken was absolutely on point. Crispy sweet and spicy. Well cooked. Wow. We also ordered the chicken fried rice . Also absolutely delicious. We also ordered the pork belly buns. Wow totally georgous. The only negative was that the pork buns came at the end of our meal but we still ate two of them. There was no wait and the food except for the buns came very quickly. So we've been here twice so far. The food is decent. Sometimes I feel like the breading makes up half of the actual chicken piece. If you're getting wings, drumsticks come out just lukewarm and the wings are hot. Kind of strange. The worst part about this place is the service. The first time we went, we just had an issue with refills on our drinks. We literally had to ask for refills. Second time the waiter forgot to bring us our drinks. We had to ask him to bring them. The staff welcome you when you come in the door, offer you something to drink, and make you comfortable until your appointment time. When it is your turn, your service is performed in a professional manner. The owner, Kristina, is an artist, painting intricate designs on your nails. Kristina also offers "theme" appointments, such as Valentine's Day, a wedding anniversary, or birthday parties for young girls. Am I addicted yet? Since my first visit, I've frequented this place with my brother and our friend AT LEAST once a week. Now we walk in slapping high fives, pretty much knowing the whole crew and cracking jokes with them. "Bonchon" means "hometown" in Korean. When I hear "hometown", I think of a place where everybody is welcome; picture an extended family or a close knit large group of friends. That's what I feel when I walk in. The manager is constantly walking around, making sure all his guests are satisfied. On one stormy Houston night, he was outside, fervently waiting, umbrella in hand to escort his guests to the door. I can go on and speak so highly of the wait staff, but I've digressed. I must continue to the real content of this review: their food - specifically their KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN! Look at the wall close to the patio exit; notice all the cities worldwide that have become addicted. Bonchon is huge in Asia. I've lived in the Philippines for a good number of years, and when Bonchon arrived in the Philippines, it became an instant hit! They are known for their Korean flavored twice fried crack- I mean chicken. After leaving the Philippines, I salivate just remembering the meals I've savored. Having been previously blessed with the twice fried goodness Bonchon offers, my expectations were high. I've talked to one of the managers, and being a frequent guest, I can tell that they are still perfecting their chicken. Not that it is a bad thing, it just means that means that they strive to create the best that they can offer. First time wasn't as crispy as I expected, however each succeeding visit, it got crispier. Sometimes the spiciness level of spicy varies. I like mine quite hot. The flavors, though are there; just the way I remembered. Fried chicken wings with a light glaze of sweet soy garlic or a more aggressive spicy taste. I suggest you get a combination of both. One of the waiters encouraged me to get the chicken katsu. "How can I order anything other than their specialty?" But I acquiesced. Stick to their wings as your main course. As far as sides go, I've tried their pot stickers and the tteokbokki. Both very good. So to sum it up, the the food was very very good, but not as I remembered it. Same goes for certain branches of Bonchon that I've visited in the Philippines; each store isn't exactly the same. However, they are constantly perfecting their recipe. I wouldn't be surprised if they do reach the classic Bonchon recipe very soon. The wait staff is amazing. Makes you feel at home and always very attentive to your needs. I ordered Bonchon's version buldak and it was absolutely disgusting. First and foremost, there should only be the chicken, scallion, and rice cake. For some reason they decided to throw all of the steamed vegetables in the overly greasy sauce. The whole thing was swimming in this sauce, and it was inedible. Why on earth would there be a whole carrot stick in this dish, let alone five of them? There were only a couple of rice cakes, and i took one bite gave up. I'm also ordered the kimchi pancake which was slightly better, but not by much. They have a lot of work to do here. If you want to get decent Korean wings or just decent Korean food period, venture out into Korean town, go to Super H Mart, and you will have your Korean food fix met. Still doesn't beat the bon chon I had in NYC but close to it. Bon chon in NYC had the beeeeeest watermelon soju and wings!!! Drooling thinking about it! However, I love the soy garlic wings or drums here. Drums are huge! I usually eat about 4-6 wings and get full and 2 drums did it for me, especially if you are ordering other side dishes. We tried the calamari, which was just ok nothing extraordinary (doesn't beat Maggianos calamari or anything) but not bad, the fries are Delish and well seasoned but kinda pricey if you ask me... $3.95 would have been more appropriate or maybe even $4.95, but $6.95 just not worth it to me. However, my son really wanted fries so I got it for him. Service wasn't bad, nothing over the top but definitely not bad like some of the other reviews. Will definitely return! My wife is Korean and we used to live in Seoul so we are very familiar with Bonchon. Therefore, we had to try it out. We went on a Sunday night and did not even make it to our table. Perhaps we were unlucky, but our experience says the management team at this location has no idea how to run a restaurant. Many of the common mistakes you see on shows like Restaurant Impossible were in ample evidence. First, we walked in and were greeted by... nobody. There was a host desk but no human. We stood by the host desk and nobody came over. Restaurant was full and busy, there was one other group of people waiting. A guy who looked like the owner or manager came over to the host desk, never looked at me and then walked away. Another woman did the same. Manager came back, said something to the other group waiting about their table almost being ready and never looked at me. I finally said, "so are you taking names or what?" at which point he took down my name and said it would be a short wait. This was a good 5 minutes after arriving. We sat down and watched as one waitress audibly complained about how busy the restaurant was and looked lost. Another wandered around, talked with tables, expressed confusion over who was sitting where. The manager was all over the place, two more groups came in behind us and went through the same deal of standing around and looking mystified that nobody was greeting them. After 10-15 minutes of sitting and watching, the manager came over and said it would be about 10 minutes. We decided to leave as we could see from our time there that the waiting for a table would be just the beginning of waiting. We saw plenty of tables looking frustrated waiting for food, we did not see a lot of food arriving. We saw zero tables leave in the time we were there (we were in the restaurant 20 minutes or so, to see no tables finished and out the door over that long a period of time is a bad sign). We finally got up and left and went to another Korean fried chicken restaurant place in the area where we were greeted immediately, seated quickly, treated well with good food. It's a shame as Bonchon is a good franchise, but if the management at this location can't get their act together soon, I can't see it surviving. Hopefully the team at the Pearland location, when it opens, will be a lot better. read more

Wow ! This has by far got to be one of the best wings that I have ever had. Their unique marination and deep frying technique is to perfection. The ambience is amazing too and can easily be a place to bring your family or just hang out with friends/coworkers. Stylish bar and some nice fusion drinks too !! The staff is very accommodating and the best part is that restaurant has few dishes that also cater towards the vegetarians. Definitely worth your money. Man where do I begin. We walked in Saturday afternoon around 12:15 and the place was basically empty and absolutely every table was dirty. The floor felt like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks ( Super Sicky ), not days. The next thing we noticed was NOT ONE employee had on any type of Hair Net or Hair Protection, yet they were running in and out of the kitchen area. One younglady ran her fingers through her hair then grabbed napkins to give to the other family that was there, she did throughout our visit. Our server Gabriel, when asked about some of the menu items was clueless to them, as well as clueless to what day it even was. He asked us what day it was. When the food came out it was subpar to say the least. We ordered the Chicken wings and Drums combo, Seasoned Fries, House Fried Rice and Korean Tacos. Chicken over cooked and hard. Fries served warm not hot. Rice was just ok. The best thing we got was the Tacos. The service was none existence. Our server never came and checked on us to see if everything was ok, we had to flag him done when someone else onened the kitchen doors where everyone was just hanging out, just to get a refill on our drinks. We went to the restrooms to wash up, and not to our surprise it was just as dirty as the tables in the dining area. Not only did we waste our money , but it was truly a waste of time. NOTE: I did not take price, service, or atmosphere into consideration of my rating of this place. I'm going to be strictly reviewing this place based on its food. That being said... Appetizer: I ordered the salmon avacado ball and the popcorn chicken. The salmon ball was fine, but nothing more than average. The flavors in the dish were comparable to that of a shaggy dog roll. The ball consisted of a piece of salmon, with avacado, cucumber, and crab meat tucked underneath. The entire dish was garnished with unagi sauce, spicy mayo, and salmon roe. I feel that nothing was particularly special with the entire dish. As for the popcorn chicken, I can only describe it as subpar. The chicken was mainly dry, and the breading was either burned or fine. I strictly remember leaving a fourth of the dish uneaten, mainly because there was no chicken in the nuggets. The nuggets were sweet (possibly due to the honey/molasses marinade). In my opinion, it appears that they took whatever scraps they didn't use and just battered, fried, and served. Entrée: For the main course, we ordered small orders of wings, strips, and drumsticks (half and half). The common problem that I had with all three of these was that the outside was burned. The sauce they add is where about 95% of the flavor is. It does a pretty good job of masking the burned areas of the chicken. The wings were nothing special. Other reviews have complained about the size of the wings being too small, but to me, they were the right size. The drumsticks, however, we're freakishly large. The drumstick's meat was between the lines of perfectly cooked to overcooked. I can't really classify the strips as strips, because appearance-wise, they looked like giant nuggets. The meat on the inside tasted like chicken breast, which is a more economical approach to chicken strips. If they wanted to take it to another level, they should have used thigh meat, as it is fatter (and when cooked, juicier) than breast meat. Overall, I would give this place an average rating for an average meal. read more

We were so excited to try out Bonchon in Katy because everywhere else (LA, DC, etc) blew my mind. What a disappointment. I would have hoped that the food would make up for the lackluster service but it brought the franchise's name to shame. The soy garlic wings lacked the crunch that Bonchon is known for. More specifically, the wings were not twice fried and lacked adequate volume (not enough meat). The only redeeming factor was the flavor of the soy garlic and the seasoned fries. As we were seated, my booth still had crumbs so I had to get back up and wipe the seat and my pants before sitting back down. We first ordered Japchae $13.95 and Udon Noodle Soup $8.95. The Japchae was slightly on the salty side and was not the best I've tried. The Udon Noodle Soup was extremely bland. I had to mix the two orders to balance out the flavors. You could go buy store bought instant noodles and be more satisfied eating at home. Service was slow for it not being busy. Our waitress asked us how we were doing once we had finished our food. I was really hoping she would come sooner because I was trying to place an order to go and have it ready by the time we were done eating. We finally ordered the Medium Combo of 10 wings & 5 drums with half spicy and half soy garlic for $22.95. Keep in mind that they do not mix both flavors together. When we received our Take-Out, I tried one wing of each flavor. THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO COME FOR, NOTHING MORE! I suggest for everyone to order the chicken TO-GO if you want your money's worth, not have to worry about slow service, and crumby seats. The rest of the 8 wings and 5 drums were given to 3 other females, who also gave the chicken 10/10 rating. Incredibly terrible customer service and food. When I requested 2 flavors on the wing special. The server said they cannot do 2 flavors. I asked for the manager and he told us that it was impossible and against corporate policy. Get real folks, these are wings! They failed to take our full order and left us without one of our dishes. The food we got was fried rice. The rice was seriously undercooked, no flavor, and swimming in oil. The table next to us asked for a small rice, and again the answer was that they don't do that. The customer was only asking for a small rice!!! There are 8000+ restaurants in the area, I will certainly take my business elsewhere. This business fails Restaurant 101..Customer Service and Food Qualit. It's sad that they do not realize that 1 unhappy customer translates to a lot of lost revenue. The manager just shrugged me off and did nothing to resolve the issue. My recommendation is Do Not Eat here, they do not care about you as a customer! read more
