Review from Saturday, August 13, 2016 Our experience here was pretty awful. We went at 3:45 in the afternoon and were seated quickly, however no one acknowledged us for at least 10 minutes. We had a party of 6- 2 adults and 4 kids. When I took my daughter to the bathroom, someone had literally pooped on the floor. It was stepped in and dried all over the bathroom. Upon leaving the bathroom, we finally had someone ask if we had been helped. We ordered waters and potstickers to start with. And then ordered a 20 pc. Strip and seasoned fries. The potstickers took around 10-15 minutes- no big deal. Then, we sat. And we waited. And waited. Nothing. No apologies from our waiter- in fact, our waiter disappeared. We had to ask for more water. At 4:30 (45 minutes later, if you're keeping track) I asked another waitress if she could find out what was going on with our food. She went and checked and said there were still a few orders ahead of us. Seriously?! We then asked for our check as we had somewhere to go. Our waiter then came and told us he needed a manager to get the check for us. He then went back into the kitchen and proceeded to bring out 2 more orders for other tables. Finally at 4:50 we just left $10 on the table and left- we still had not received a check. The potstickers were delicious, so it was very disappointing to not get our actual meal. Looking out at the restaurant, almost all of the tables had lots of waters and no food. I heard waiters walking up to tables asking "have you been helped?" There seemed to be no organization to this restaurant. No table assignments. We saw our waiter in the kitchen chopping lemons. Overall, a huge disappointment and lots of hungry customers. read more

Fried chicken is one of the best Korean fried chicken in Houston, atmosphere is great and staff are very friendly from my experience.

Moving from Virginia, Bonchon chicken was one of the things I missed the most. I was so excited when they announced their opening and I have been their regular customer since. Their wings never disappoint, especially with the spicy sauce. Minus one star because of the customer service. One time I was sitting at the table, the whole time the waiter never bothered to ask if I wanted to order a drink first while waiting for my friends. The manager is very professional and courteous though. When the waitress took our order wrong, he was kind enough to come apologize, brought us the one we wanted and gave us a togo box for the other one. We will NEVER come back again! We love to give NEGATIVE rating if we could. We're only reviewing the service as WE NeVER GOT OUR FOOD! We ordered salmon ball and 20 wings half and half and French fries, our server warned us that the chicken will be about 20-25 mins and asked if its ok if we get the other dishes before the chicken. After 45 minutes of ordering and given multiples excuses from our waiter, we never got our food. We finally had enough when three other tables that were seated AFTER us get their orders of fried chicken before us. We asked our waiter where's our food and got some lame excuse about how they ordered drumsticks. We ordered wings! When in the world does drumstick cook faster than wings??!!??! read more

Soooo no more Katy bonchon for me. :( Now if you wanna try out Bon Chon, insist that they make a brand new batch for you and be liberal with the sauce, here's why: I was very excited at the prospect of Bon Chon opening in town because I've been dreaming about the best Korean fried chicken I had at Bon Chon in VA. Boy was I disappointed! Had a medium order of drums, half half (garlic and hot sauces). Also kim chi fried rice- they do not have this on the menu but was willing to mix in my side order of kim chi into the rice in the kitchen- yes! The rice came out first, it was ok, a bit mushy for my taste and the kim chi was under-seasoned so didn't add much to the rice but my friend liked it. The guy who brought the rice out was very excited, wanted us to try it out and let him know how it tastes because they've not made it before. We invited him to taste it with us which he did! I was surprised that he took us up on our offer but it was cute because he was very natural and genuinely curious. The chicken came out shortly thereafter. First bite? A huge disappointment because the temperature was barely warm, no double fried crunch, and the sauce did not fully coat the drum so it was rather bland. The hot sauce is better than the garlic sauce. The waitress came by and we told her the drums weren't hot at all and we asked for extra sauce on the side. She was like ok and sorry we can't give you any extra sauce- the wings are how we serve them. Ok! We told her she forgot the pickled radish. She brought it out- very cool (great on temperature), but the cut was big, under-seasoned, and not pickled long enough so there's a bit of that raw radish smell. Luckily someone else came by (manager or owner?) and asked how things were. I commented that the wings were lukewarm. He said he'll take care of it. Our new wings came out, hotter but not piping hot (he swung by our table thereafter and asked if the wings were piping hot). Hmmm...their wings are definitely not cooked to order. You know a place is going to be good when the line is out the door and the wait time is long. Bonchon is just such a place. This new location has only been open for a few days and they haven't even had their grand opening. However, they rock! The food is picture perfect and taste just as great! When the menu said "drums" I thought they were talking about wome itty-bitty drummettes. NO! They are FULL SIZE DRUMSTICKS! Friggin' huge! The wings are just as big! I knew I couldn't eat all of them so I went with a traditional Korean dish called Japchae. It's glass noodles with red peppera, carrots, spinach, mushrooms, and thinly sliced marinated beef stir fried with sesame oil with their signature Bonchon Soy Garlic Sauce. OMG! Sooooooo good! I had a side of Kimchi(fermented cabbage) and a bottle of Soju to wash it down. Bonchon looks like a regular fastfood place but it serves up the best food! I hope they open a location in Dallas soon! I met the owner on the first time-- ordered takeout. He promised these wings would change our life and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! You have to try it to believe it! The soy garlic sauce is heavenly!! The Salmon avocado ball is even great the next day! It's absolutely incredible. Husband even tried the Japchae-- loves it. Even the darn Cole slaw was good! First time going to bonchon end it was great. We started the bulgogi sliders which could have been a meal by itself. I had the bull dak, chicken and rice cakes cooked in a spicy sauce. And my wife had the salmon avocado ball. It was an appetizer but it filled her up all the same. We usually share a bite, but she said it was so good she finished it before I could even ask for a taste. We will definitely be going back. read more

My niece recommended this place because she has been here several times and loves the food. I was pleasantly surprised with my visit. I ordered the wings and they were great. The spicy wings had an intense amount of heat to them that was simply mouth watering and kept me going back for more. The soy garlic wings were mighty tasty too. I then indulged in the chicken katsu and it was superb. The chicken was cooked perfectly - crispy on the outside but tender and juicy on the inside. The sauce was fantastic and thrilled my taste buds. To top off the experience, our service was excellent. The food is good, but service is lacking. If you are eating in the restaurant, be prepared to wait for your food. The kitchen is always behind. If you order take out, add 10 minutes to their estimate. Then be prepared to wait quite a while to check out. They only use one computer to close take out orders. If they start on the wrong computer, they need management help to change. We waited 10 minutes while the manager talked to the server checking us out today because she started on the wrong computer and couldn't fix her mistake. read more

Bon Chon is good. I didn't try anything else but the shu mai. And it was not good at all. Steamed mushy. By its ok. We were there for the Bon chon. Let's talk about the service. Our waiter tried his best. I mean it's a soft opening I get it there is gonna be some issues. Most of the servers were all over the place. Flustered and not composed. The hostesses need personalities quick. Wake up drink some coffee something. You're in customer service. Make it count. The owner was polite and took the shu Mai off our bill. He was very apologetic. My advice for him would be to invest in a floor manager to hire and train his staff. The flow and energy needs to be more cohesive. Spend the money and time on that and it will pay off. Some owners are just that jut owners and are not leaders and managers. Just hire the right people and invest in training and it will benefit the business. I can't help but feel like a manager is at fault for hiring what appeared to be a very green staff. We weren't even seated promptly and I believe there were maybe six or seven people in there. Empty. Our waitress was very skiddish and condescending through our entire meal. It started off badly with tea that came out and tasted awful. Bland, room temperature and zero ice cubes. I had it replaced with a Coke. We ordered their "Half & Half" wings which is a mixture of regular wings with their signature sauces and their signature spicy wings. The regular wings, they're tasty, no doubt. But the spicy wings? I like, and can handle spicy food but these are insanely spicy. They were not enjoyable. I want flavor with a slight kick. Not a kick to the face, stomach and ass with snot pouring out of my nose while my taste buds are left in shambles... Anyway, neither my girlfriend or myself were enjoying the spicy wings so, I spoke up. "These wings.... these are just insanely spicy... I can't enjoy these at all... my girlfriend loves Korean wings and she is even having a tough time with this..." My complaint/plea was met with the following words. "Would you like a cup of ranch?" Not really. What I would like is another batch of wings. Or possibly have the bill adjusted? Maybe you could take those wings away because we're not enjoying them, and offer us something entirely different? Anything besides, a bandaid which in this case, was ranch dressing. Again I said, "Well, my girlfriend frequents Korean cuisine and she can't handle these, either." To which the waitress responded, "Well, I'm half Korean and it IS spicy. You're just not used to it." I'm feeling angry by this point. I start eavesdropping as my waitress addresses other tables and other waitresses do the same. I continue to hear, "Oh, it's a soft opening." "It's just a soft opening." Why? Because your place of business is failing and providing awful service, that is the generic excuse? I heard "soft opening" 10+ times when dealing with errors, confrontation, dislike and bad service. Don't open your business if you're not ready to provide the proper experience. Period. The couple dining behind us asked for silverware, which Bonchon apparently, doesn't provide. Ignorant. Don't assume everyone is cultured enough to use chopsticks and don't make a customer feel ashamed or stupid because they're not familiar with using them. As soon as the couple received their food, they immediately asked for to-go boxes and bailed. You could hear the dissatisfaction in their voices and see it in their mannerisms. "Is everything alright?" - Waitress "Yep. I guess." - Me My voice/body language should say enough but she just walks off, apathetic as can be. Manager doesn't bother to come around to the six or seven people dining in this establishment to see how things are going. This place is brand new yet, it feels bleak. It's depressing and uninviting. The staff really helps to drive this point home too, unfortunately. And, be ready for someone to jam some tunes from behind the bar. Loudly and obnoxiously. We had ordered a second dish in addition to the wings that was absolutely atrocious as well. I've forgotten the name but it's really not important. It was a ton of chicken and rice and cost $15+ which is asinine. This place needs to leave their NYC prices at home. This is Katy, TX. People are not keen on paying $15+ for chicken and rice. Very cheap products. When it was all said and done, my girlfriend and I were extremely unhappy, most of our food still on the plate, no desire to seek a to-go box and the check read $35 and some change. BEFORE TIP. Came here with my siblings on New Year's Eve. Being a holiday the place was not very packed and you could tell. We arrived about an hour and a half to 2 hours before closing but everyone there was just about ready to leave. The hostess was busy on her phone talking to her boyfriend I'm assuming who was sitting at the chairs near the door. The waiter was running back and forth from the kitchen to the other 3 tables like crazy trying to meet everyone's needs as well as clean tables for closing. The level of unprofessionalism was appalling. We had to ask multiple times for straws for our drinks, refills, and when i asked for utensils they came back with 1 fork. How are we (a table of 3) suppose to share 1 fork? I used to love going here but I'm not sure what happened that night. This place was NOT the bonchon I know and love. I have tried bonchon on the east coast and even the left overs are something to dream about. I was so excited to hear Houston would get a bonchon. The food here was a disappointment. Ordered spicy and soy garlic and my wings came out in 3 minutes. It takes 13 minutes to make regular wings and Bon chon is suppose to be double fried. How did my wings come out in 3 minutes?! My wings were COLD and when the food came out, I had to ask 3 times for silverware. My wings came out BEFORE my octopus ball appetizer. The server even admit that they make a huge batch of wings for the "rush" during the day and that we got wings from that rush. Our wings were small and they were miscut wings. You could see the bone hanging out. If I'm paying $1.20 per wing I expect it to be edible and at least GOOD. The server knew that we were disappointed so he came back to check on us literally every 3 minutes. The sauce for soy garlic was bland and spicy was just a sweet spicy sauce. Nothing special. Waited an hour and a half. Never received two of the four sides we ordered, nor the chicken. Waiter all but disappeared. Never received one of the six plates we needed. Never received two of the six sets of chopsticks we needed. My fiancé's mother waited 30 minutes for the staff to realize they forgot to get her a glass of water, only to have them come back in another 30 minutes and realize it again. My sister's boyfriend never got a refill on his water. When we decided to leave (for obvious reasons), the manager tried to blame my fiancé for not telling the manager that there were issues--he'd been standing near our table for at least 30 minutes of the 90 or so that we were there. read more

Typically I don't leave bad reviews, but felt extremely compelled to after this experience. I used to come to this location fairly often, however I hadn't been in a while. Went last night and don't think I will be going back again. Service was awful. Aside from the terrible service (no napkins, no refills, didn't check on us) the bartender was vaping while working the bar and was basically acting like he was not at work. I understand how it is in the service industry and wanting to relax a bit when things are slow, but his behavior made me not even want to stay at the restaurant, from the way he spoke to his coworkers and racially related inappropriate language. The quality of food has also declined drastically from the last time I had been to this location. While we were there the workers began to close an hour early, I suppose due to the fact that they were not having a very busy night. However, someone came in to place a to go order and one of the host went to the back to ask someone to take his order and we could all hear the employees complaining that they didn't want to take his order and arguing over who is gonna go do it. It really is hard to write a review about Bonchon right now, or any Korean style fried chicken joint in the Houston area for that matter. Coming from the Philippines, there are Bonchon locations everywhere. Over there, they did Korean fried chicken right. It was flavorful, but that extra extra extra crispy texture is what made it like nothing I've ever had. After Bonchon finally opening up in Houston (Katy), I couldn't stop thinking about finally getting that first crispy, crunchy bite of chicken. I ordered the wing and drumstick combo with half soy garlic and half spicy sauce. When my order finally came up, the flavor was there, but that crunch was lacking. Now it still was very crispy, and for some Houstonians who haven't tried Bonchon before, it may very well have been the crispiest fried chicken they've had. For me though, the crispiness wasn't up to par. The flavor was there though, except the spicy was just a bit too spicy (and that's coming from someone who LOVES spicy). They did however adjust the recipe a little, so the spicy chicken wasn't as spicy, and that made it a lot more enjoyable for me. That has been an ongoing occurrence with this restaurant. The recipe constantly changes, or the way they actually fry the chicken changes, making it more crispy every time. I'm sure as they keep going, they'll find the perfect frying technique that offers that perfect crispiness I've been missing. I did try a few other items as well. The pot stickers and the Tteokboki(?) are great, and I do recommend trying them. So obviously from reading this review, you can tell that I actually frequent this place quite often, or at least often enough to know that the recipe and cooking techniques are constantly changing. And it is that very "attitude" this restaurant has that keeps me coming back. They are always looking for ways to improve in order to not only satisfy, but please each and every customer. From the management to the wait staff to the cooks..they gear everything to make customers happy. Another example of this I noticed with the manager. Anyone who lives in Houston knows that the past few months have given us CRAZY amounts of rain. There were many times I saw the manager outside with an umbrella walking to cars and making sure families don't get wet. Let me get to the actual physical restaurant before I miss it. It is always clean, despite the number of people going in and out. The actual space isn't huge, so tables and chairs are arranged a little more on the "cozy" side for maximum capacity. This gives it more of a cafeteria or fast-food chain feel than other restaurants, but I did not mind this at all because this is exactly how it was in the Philippines. The outdoor patio area is nice though. Albeit a little lacking on the aesthetic side, the tables are spread spaciously, and there are even small tables with couches to lounge around in. Now last but definitely not least, let me get to the wait staff. Nothing against the food, but they are truly what keeps me coming back. I am pretty sure I've met and have been served by every single one of them, and they are all wonderful. They're very friendly and serve to please, but what waiter isn't supposed to do that? What makes them different is just how cool they are. They actually "hang out" with you, as much as they're allowed to, and they really do make you feel like you're a part of their group. They just seem like good people to kick it with even when they're not working. They joke around with you and really do just make sure you're having a great time. So overall, I give Bonchon Katy 5 stars. The food (specifically the chicken that Bonchon is known for), especially after expecting so much from the Bonchon chain, I give maybe a 3/5, but the people who go above and beyond to give excellent customer service is what makes me give this establishment a 5. Also, with the way they are constantly trying to improve and perfect recipes, I'm sure the quality of their chicken will be excellent as well. read more

I see some others describing negative experiences on occasion but I thought I'd give some praise based on my experience. The food is excellent. And it's probably the only place in Katy where you can find these kinds of entrees right now. We had the Bulgogi Korean tacos and Pork Buns with the seasoned zuchinni fries. If you like just a dash of spice with a ton of flavor then this is it. The server was solid too: we got drink refills on time and they kept up with checking on the table. We've been to Bonchon in Katy 3 times and have been very pleased every time. The chicken is very high quality and everything is fresh and unique. I had the Korean beef tacos this time, super yummy. Can't go wrong with the original sesame garlic bonchon chicken but unless you are a hard core chili head, be warned that the spicy chicken is indeed VERY hot! Even the seasoned fries are super good and unlike any restaurants around. Can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu and there is a lot to choose from! Need one in Cypress! I was so excited when iheard this place was coming to Houston! I have friends in NY who always talked about how good it was and after coming back from Korea I was craving some authentic chicken. On a Monday around 3:30pm not to crowded but had more than 5 customers. Immediately we were seated and told that she wasn't or server but our server would assist us soon.... 10 min go by and hostess comes back asking what we would like to drink and again reminded us she wasn't our server. I noticed a server and he said he'd be right with us. 5 more min pass and another guy comes and takes our orders (we still had not recieved our waters) Finally we get our drinks and shortly after our appetizers and chicken. The dumplings were a bit to crunchy for my liking,but the chicken was delicious! (we ordered the half and half on both the appetizers and the chicken) I love spicy and felt the chicken had just enough kick.
